Red Nosey parkers!

Bearsden Primary School helped raised a whopping £1078 for Comic Relief. Whoopee!! The school was a sea of red and there were lots of fun things to do during the day.
P4 Room 5 put on a brilliant assembly to tell us all about where all the money will be going to.

The infants love P4's singing and dancing!

The P7s organised a bakesale and bring and buy sale of old toys and books in the school hall. There was also a graffiti wall, face painting, henna painting and a nail boutique. Other classes organised treasure hunts, lucky dips and sold themselves as personal slaves!

In P3 Room 6, we wore our clothes back to front and performed a crazy dance for 30 mins. Mr M even agreed to wear a giant pair of Granny pants. We then decided to set a new World Record by fitting 6 children into the same pair of pants.

We found out that there are lots of Guinness World Records involving pants.

The largest underpants ever are 20m wide!
A Frenchman jumped in and out of a pair of pants 27 times in one minute.
The most underpants anyone has ever worn at one time is 231 pairs!

The best part of the day was being able to hold real Egyptian artifacts and learning all about the 'Weighing of the Heart' ceremony. We even tried to lift the lid of a stone sarcophagus. Using skill, brute strength and an extra dose of Weetabix P3 managed to lift it at least 2mm. Honest!

World Book Day

Both Primary 3 classes made a tremendous effort to come dressed up for World Book Day. Famous book characters included Harry Potter, Heidi and Dennis the Menace. Both classes also managed to raise nearly £200 in the sponsored readathon: a superb achievement!

Our Planet with the BBC Symphony Orchestra

Primary 3 enjoyed a superb musical journey in the company of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Strictly Come Dancing star, Matt Baker. We were treated to a musical and visual extravaganza of dramatic nature films soundtracked by famous pieces of classical music. It was the first time that many of us had listened to an orchestra live before and we loved it. The larger instruments like the bass drum and double bass proved very popular but our favourite musician was Jamie's mum who plays oboe in the orchestra. We gave her an extra loud cheer at the end!

Playing hopscotch

We have been enjoying lots of different activities during our P.E. lessons. Mr M has been teaching us traditional street games and songs. Mrs McCauley has been showing how to be all bendy and creative in gymnastics. And we had an amazing morning learning to do a little bit of Judo with a couple of black belt Judo champions. Phew! Time for a cup of tea and a biscuit.

P3 Christmas Party

We had lots of fun at our Christmas party. We wore our best party clothes and went to the PE hall to dance and play lots of great games like pass the parcel and musical statues.

After all the party games we went back to the classroom to eat our party food. Suddenly, we could hear the distant sound of sleigh bells... We rushed out into the hall to find Santa and his elves making a special visit to our school. They brought lots of brilliant presents for us too! It was a fantastic party.

We are crazy about penguins in P3!

The Primary 3 have been learning all about Antarctica. On Wednesdays we have enjoyed active learning mornings where we work in small groups of 4 or 5 and do lots of exciting activities inspired by our topic. The activities would have been impossible without the support, enthusiasm and expertise of all the wonderful mums, dads and grandparents who helped run the activities. A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO YOU ALL!!

All the infant classes enjoyed a spooktacular Halloween party. All the children made a bewitching effort to dress up as ghosts, zombies, vampires, witches and more. Apparently, some of the teachers dressed up too but the pupils didn't notice the difference!

We had fun dancing in our costumes, dooking for apples and showing off our amazing hand carved turnips. Thanks to all the parents for your big efforts in making your children look so gruesome!

Mugdock Trip

It was a beautifully crisp and sunny autumn day when we invaded Mugdock Park. We found lots of different types of trees, leaves and nuts. The park ranger led us to a treasure trove of conkers and showed us how to fly sycamore seeds like helicopters.

When we returned to school everyone was exhausted but with rosy cheeks and pockets full of conkers!

Topic
Primary 3 are learning all about Antarctica this term. We will be using the book The Emperor's Egg and the film The March of the Penguins to learn about the amazing trials and tribulations that Emperor penguins endure to hatch and care for their penguin chicks. The topic will also inspire our artwork and writing activities this term.
Active Learning mornings
Over six weeks, both P3 classes will be combining for Active Learning sessions on Wednesday mornings. In small groups of four or five they will experience exciting practical activities based on their Antarctica topic and covering subjects such as art, maths, science and literacy. We are very lucky that so many parents have kindly given up their time to help run the activities.

Christmas and Enterprise
The P3s will be supporting the upper school Christmas show by creating a wonderful winter frieze to help decorate the hall. We shall also be making penguin inspired items to sell at the Christmas Fayre.

Harvest Assembly

For the last few weeks we have been working hard rehearsing our songs and moves for our Harvest Assembly. We performed the assembly to the whole school and everyone loved it. One Primary 2 class even made us some cards to congratulate us on our efforts.

The P3s enjoyed a Fun Day helping to raise money to build a new school playground. In the morning we had a Beetle Drive and played Bingo.

We had amazing fun today at Bearsden Tennis Club. With the help of Catriona Shields, the Active Sports Coordinator, we spent the whole afternoon learning to play tennis. It was a beautifully hot and sunny afternoon and we practised many tennis skills, including keepy-ups, rallies, smash shots and serves. Mr M even played Mrs Ralph in special celebrity match. Rumour has it that Mrs Ralph won the match. "You cannot be serious?" says Mr M.

Primary 3 had a special visit from the friendly Gladigator! The Gladigator brought along a giant inflatable assault course and a healthy message about the importance of cleaning your teeth. Remember, use just a pea sized blob of toothpaste on your brush and brush your teeth for at least two minutes. Gladiator rules!

Leaf hunting in the playground

Primary 3 are really enjoying our Autumn topic. Both classes have been out in the playground classifying all the different trees by looking at their leaves, berries and nuts. We found Beech trees, Silver Birch trees, a Hazel tree, a gigantic Sycamore tree, a Rowan tree, an Ash tree and, best of all, a Horse Chestnut tree! We have also been collecting lots of examples of leaves, nuts and berries for our nature tables in class.

The P3s have settled in really well to their new classes and are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead.
Topic The P3s will be having lots of fun exploring the Topic of Autumn and Harvest this term. We have a trip planned to Mugdock, exploring the signs of Autumn, on the 20th October. In RME, the classes will be learning about the religious importance of Harvest and the two classes are rehearsing a Harvest assembly to deliver to the whole school in October.
Homework The two classes will have weekly homework of maths, phonics and spelling. They will also get occasional tasks inspired by their topic.
PE P3 Rm 6 have PE on a Monday and Wednesday. P3 Rm 5 have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Trips As well as a trip to Mugdock, the P3s will be visiting Bearsden Tennis Club on Friday 17th September.
