Country Competiton at Mugdock. Despite difficult conditions- and the
odd lost shoe- they won an amazing total of 14 medals.
In the P6 boys event Andrew Turnbull finished 8th, Adam Stanley was 17th and
Euan McClenaghan 22nd. As a team the boys finished in third place winning bronze medals.
In the girls race Erin Halliday matched Andrew's 8th place. However,as we need 3 runners to
make upa team Erin was unable to be considered for a team position.
If we had more P6 girls running we would be in with a chance of winning a team medal.
SO COME ON GIRLS ! Get those running shoes on and come and join us at the next race.
It's good fun and we'd love to see you.

Japanese Cooking

We have been learning about tangrams in our class. tangrams are different sized shapes that fit together to make a picture of anything. First you make sure you can make a square using all of your shapes. In tangrams you have to use all your shapes in every tangram you make. This is a great website that shows you how to cut out and form shapes for your tangrams. You can find some really cool tangrams that you can make simply. If you find it too hard you can click solution and it will tell you how to do it.
http://www.tangrams.ca/index.htm
We watched the Japanese animated film 'Laughing Moon' which is all made from tangrams. It was really funny.

Cross Country 21st November 09

CROSS COUNTRY
The next race is on Saturday 21st November 09.
We were learning about Manga which is the japanese style of comic book drawings. Manga is different to most of our traditional drawings because the hair styles mostly used on Manga drawings is made up of big, thick clumps of hair and the eyes on Manga drawings are much bigger than most of our drawings but other facial features such as nose and mouth are very small compared to the eyes!
In class we are watching a Manga film called Howls Moving Castle. It has a great plot so we are always eager to watch on! It is about a wizard named Howl who has a walking castle. There is a girl named Sophie, who works in a hat shop and gets turned into an old aged pensioner by the Wicked Witch of the Waste! Will Sophie ever lift the curse?

Japanese Art Work.

On Friday 4th November our class made a carp streamer each. Carp Streamers are used to represent when a baby is born, and they are put up all over Japan on Childrens Day!
We also tried out some Japanese block prints of the great wave. Block prints were invented by a Japanese artist called Hokusai. Block prints are very easy and quick to make and that meant from then on it was much easier to aford paintings to display around your house and local places.

In class this term our topic is Japan. We have done alot of things including:

Making Wind Socks

Translating our names into Japanese

Designing our own Kimono

We have heard the story of 1000 paper cranes

Made origami

Wrote Halloween Haiku

Tried on Kimono

Our favourite things so far have been making the wind socks, crane origami and designing the Kimono. We have been designing our own computer games and we are excited to see how they turn out. We are enjoying the story of 1000 paper cranes and we can't wait to find out what happens next.

On the 29th of October our class went to the Hindu Temple. The bits we enjoyed were dressing up in saris and turbans. After we got the saris and turbans off we got henna done.Henna is a plant that is like a paste that the Hindus add water to.

The girls also really enjoyed the dancing, as did Mckenzie and Miss Livia. We all enjoyed the story telling. Inside the praying area it was HUGE!!! and very colourful we got to explore the massive area. We enjoyed the day at the Hindu Temple and we dream of going again.

ROGER OVER AND OUT!!!!
Weird, huh! There was millions of things on the turnips like hair, hats, halos + even earrings. When your parents were little they used turnips instead of pumpkins because the pumpkins are American + they had to pay a lot of money to buy a pumpkin. A lot of people brought them in and they were excellent! The class was horribly smelly so if you ever try to carve one you better hold your nose!

On the 6th of October we went on a school tripto see a sneak prieview of a play called One Thousand Paper Cranes. The story was based on a true Japanese story about a girl called Sadako who set outto save her life by making 1000 paper cranes.
When Sadako finds herself in Hospital, she hates it, but nobody has a scooby about what is wrong with her, they just know she is very very ill. Her best friend, Chiziko tries to get the test results to find out what is wrong, and she passes by the cleaner and tell her how to save her best friend...
After the play , we tried to make our own flapping paper cranes, when you pull their tail, their wings flap, we made them in all different colours.
We enjoyed it and we highly reccomend that you go and see it too. It is being performed from the 13th- 17th of October at the Tron Theatre. 63 Trongate, Glasgow G1 5HB. Tickets cost 6 pound and you can get them at http://www.tron.co.uk/ or phone 0141 552 4267. We hope you enjoy it.
On Thursday 17th of September a man from SSPCA aka Scottish society prevention of cruelty to animals. He talked about wildlife in Scotland and told us a story about a bird in England because he got stuck in rubbish and lost his leg really badly but the other leg stopped working and he can't touch the ground and the SSPCA took him to scotland and they helped the seagull. He showed us the equipment for capturing animals and he also showed us a powerpoint presendation on animals from Scotland!
We have adopted a panda and a tiger. The tiger's name is called Mal Upothi and the panda' sname is called Zhu Xiong. they send us some information and little fuzzy teddy bears.

Cross Country

Hi,
In art we have
been
finding out about Andy Warhol. We began by drawing a Simpsons
character
and used this to create our own colourful Pop Art. We have also
painted
a water colour picture with a Climate Change theme.
Both classes have had two Science Activity Afternoons that we all
really enjoyed. These involved games, activites and experiments on
extreme weather including: Tornado in a bottle, hot air rising, making
static electricity and measuring a tsunami.
Thanks for reading our blog.
See you later alligator!!
P6 Room 12

Welcome to P6 Room 17 - Wazzup?

Hi, we are the P6 class from Room 17. This is our first time
blogging. We would like to tell you a little bit about what we have
been learning about in class so far.We have been finding out about
Climate Change. We discovered that a lightning bolt is 5 times hotter than the sun.
We made some great artwork based on thunder and lightning storms using
masking tape and shaded colours. We also made lots of static
electricity using balloons and metal. Thanks for reading, come back and
see what else we are up to soon!!
