Remember our E-reader drop class on Friday afternoon and our Introduction to Technology Class on Saturday morning. Details are below.

Are you falling behind in this digital age? Were you the lucky recipient of a new laptop, e-reader, iPad, Kindle, Nook, etc. and not sure how to use it? Or perhaps you think to yourself, "What is an iPad, Kindle, Nook, e-reader?" If you already own one of these e-reader devices and just need some extra help or have questions, please feel free to drop by the library on Friday afternoon, January 20 from 2pm-4pm. This is a come and go, question and answer, help session that is FREE for anyone who is interested, please stop by, we will be glad to help you.

Do you want to know more advances in technology like Facebook, Google Docs, texting, etc., then attend the Introduction to Technology Class that the library will be offering on Saturday January 21 from 10am-12pm. This class is an introduction to several of the technology classes that the library will begin offering in the next several weeks. If you have any interest in technology classes like these, please make plans to attend this FREE introductory class on Saturday January 21.

Stocking Stuffers and Library Closing Dates for Holidays

The library will be closed Saturday, December 24^th and remain closed through Monday, January 2^nd for the Christmas and New Year Holidays. Some maintenance items will also be performed during that time. Please leave all materials in the book drop. The library will open at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3^rd.

Edgie Reeves Bolton Honored for Service to Library

Mrs. Edgie Reeves Bolton was honored Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at the annual Friends of the Library Appreciation Reception for 21 Service to the Pittsburg Camp County Public Library Board of Directors. Mrs. Bolton served from June, 1990 until October, 2011. We appreciate her years of service. She is a pleasure to work with.

Winner of the Friends Winter Art Contest

Justin Mejia, 16, is the Grand Prize Winner of the Friends of the Library's Teen/Pre-Teen Winter Holiday Creative Art Contest. He presented a Christmas tree made entirely of pipe cleaners. Grand Prize was $50.00! 2nd place was Kaitlyn Mejia, 11 and 3rd place was Ethan Mejia, 15.

Remember to enter the Friends of the Library’s Teen/Pre-Teen Winter Holiday Creative Art Contest. You could win a cash prize. Students in 5th through 12th grades may participate. You are to create your interpretation of the holiday you observe during the winter season. Here are the rules: Use an artificial tree or handmade tree structure as the basis for your creation; it must not exceed 24” high, 24” wide, 14” deep; must not exceed 10 pounds; and must not require electricity. The contest begins November 1 and entries are to be presented to the library by November 30th. Judging will be completed December 2nd. Entries may remain on display in the Public Library through December 16th. There will be cash prizes: 1st place - $50; 2nd place - $25; 3rd place - $15 and 4th place - $10. Well, it is September and I personally hope the month brings cooler temperatures and more rain. Here is a fun fact about the month. Thirteen programs were provided to the public, 300 pounds of food were collected for local food pantries through our program attendance and "Food for Fines" initiative, and 65 sets of school supplies were given away. Story Lady Tuesday; Zooniversity Friday - Come join the fun!

On Tuesday the Story Lady will be at the library at 2pm to read to 2^nd-4^th graders. All ages are welcome but stories are geared to this age group. On Friday, Zooniversity, the teaching zoo that comes to you will present a program at 3pm. Bring your new, non-perishable food items for extra chances during the prize drawings. Basic Computer Literacy Classes

We are having great success with our free Basic Computer Classes and low cost advanced classes. There is such a need in this area, but many potential students are afraid. Read what some of our students and former students are saying about the classes:

(1)“I am so happy with what I have learned in these computer classes. I could not even turn a computer on before coming to this class and now I can open up Google to search for different information. I was also very scared of the computer because I was afraid that I would break it, but I feel so much more confident and do not have this fear anymore. I continue to attend every class that I can in order to practice what I have learned and gain more knowledge about computers.”

(2)“I have learned to start up and connect to the Internet through attending these computer classes. Also, I have learned to look up items that I have been interested in learning more information about, such as parts for cars and motorcycles. In addition to learning to search for information about things that interest me, I learned how to make business cards for my business that I run.”

(3)“Attending these computer classes have been inspiring to me. The instructor has given me confidence to use the computer and not be afraid of it. I have learned to send and receive emails, as well as construct spreadsheets. Brett Roberts, Magician, performed for 153 people on July 1st in Pittsburg. Adults and children alike had a great time. Brett is truly an awesome performer! He puts on an energetic, fast paced program that really keeps the children's attention. Check out his website!
