We go to Kamloops twice a year. Once in May for a reunion dinner. The city graciously hosts us each time and they have been absolutely amazing.

This Remembrance Day I was in a fly past for the parade. They have approximately 7000 people come out for the Remembrance Day parade. Incredible to see so many people honouring the soldiers of this country, past and present.

One of the incredible parts of the visit is that we are hosted by a man named Alex Sim. He is a veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. He stormed the beaches of Normandy and is just an incredible hero of this nation. His wife Dinah has become like the squadron den mother. This May, we honoured Alex with the title of Honorary CO of 419 Squadron. We also took him for a flight. His first time in a jet. Apparently he is a white knuckle flyer but had originally wanted to join the military as a pilot. After being turned down because the recruiter knew he was too young (having been his high school teacher) he walked over to the army recruiter and joined WWII on the ground. I had the absolute honour of flying in his formation for his very first flight.

I am telling you, this man is an absolute hero and an inspiration to me, along with his wife Dinah.

Here is the article from when he flew for the first time with 419 Squadron.

And of course here's the article from the parade on Remembrance Day. I was honoured to be a part of this. (Notice Alex is wearing a flying jacket. That's the one we gave him as the now CO of the squadron.)

And yes I dragged my camera along for the ride out and back and I most definitely wouldn't forget to post those. The ride isn't as sporty as the F-18 days but it's still a jet!

Halloween

So for Halloween, the O'Mess had a halloween party. I have to admit that it's been a very long time since I've dressed up like such a girl, but it was fun. I will also admit that women are ... (I'm looking for a way to put this that won't offend all my girlfriends)... well... they are "noticable?" when they are drunk... who am I kidding, girls are kinda annoying when they are drunk. That's not a judgement... I think it is just that I am out of practice for having a night out with the ladies and it's probably just that I'm used to hanging with the dudes. I'm not used to the 8500 decible squeal, the proclamations of drunkeness, and the need to hug absolutely everyone. I would put money on the fact that the ladies say the same thing about the guys... they have a tendency to suddenly declare their love for each other ("I love ya man"), get not so genious ideas ("you know what would be awesome...") I feel it is completely reasonable to spend $75 on a cab ride to get toquitos. But as 99% of the time I'm out partaking in the fermented beverages, I am with the dudes, I am just not used to the girls. That all being said, the ladies were WAY better looking :)

See what I mean?

The gal who headed up this event did an incredible job with it. And the band, Ninja Sex Pistols, was fantastic considering it was their debut.

Anyway, I'll try and get a few more pictures up here as I manage to kidnap them from others. That and there'll be a couple of the band in my photoblog in eventually.

The Tractor Thief

If you don't know about Millie the Tractor then clearly I haven't talked to you in a very long time.
