Table tennis equipment in general is so inexpensive as compared with that required in other sports that you should not hesitate to purchase the best. An excellent racket costs about five dollars; a ball, twenty-five cents; and a table, fifty to sixty dollars. A reputable store will sell you good equipment, if you insist upon it. If you wish to be really certain, look for the official seal of the United States Table Tennis Association, which is stamped upon their equipment by those manufacturers whose products meet the minimum specifications laid down by this body.
THE TABLE
The standard tennis table is nine feet by five feet, with the playing surface thirty inches from the floor. A white line one-eighth to one-fourth of an inch runs lengthwise down the center of the playing surface and divides the table into two parts. Since the line is only used in doubles, it is not mandatory in singles play, but is certainly preferable.
The best tennis table to purchase is one with a three-quarter-inch, five-ply top. A three-ply table is cheaper but deadens the bounce of the ball so that a fast game is impossible. The table should be sturdy, of standard size, and should have eight legs.
The surface should be stained (not painted) a dark green, or some other dull, nonreflecting color. A painted surface will slow up the bounce of the ball and will also rub off on the ball and discolor it. The table can be either of the folding or stationary type, depending upon whether or not you have a permanent place in which to keep it.
LIGHTING
If you are planning a table-tennis game room in your basement, you will need good lighting overhead – at least four 200-watt bulbs; a minimum playing space of twenty-five feet by twelve; and enough room between floor and ceiling so that you can follow through on your strokes without hitting the racket on the ceiling – about eight feet.
THE BALL
In purchasing table-tennis balls, take extreme care to see that you get a round ball, neither too hard nor too soft. A round ball is necessary for a true bounce. A ball which is too hard or too soft is difficult to control. To test a ball for roundness, spin it on a flat surface; if it wobbles the slightest bit, discard it. Inspect the seam of the ball carefully, because if the seam is too hard the bounce will not be true. Pinch the ball, first on one side and then on the other, and select one with approximately the same amount of “give” on each side.
THE NET AND POSTS
Only a word is necessary about net and posts. The total length of the net is six feet (five feet for table width plus an extra six-inch extension on each side). Posts are six and three-quarter inches high and the net is suspended by a cord running from one post to the other exactly six inches from the table top. A good net, plus two posts, costs about three dollars.
THE RACKET
The most important piece of equipment is, of course, the racket. The rules of table tennis permit you to use a racket of any size, shape, and material you desire, but, through experience, expert players have learned that a three-, four- or five-ply racket weighing from five to six ounces and covered with soft, pebbled rubber is by far the most satisfactory. The rubber pips prolong contact with the ball and allow control and spin in the same way that a new tire with full rubber treads grips the road better and gives the driver more control of his automobile.
The rubber racket has the added advantage of not betraying the speed of the shot by the sound. It hits the ball with the same speed as a wooden racket but does not permit the opponent’s ear to warn him of the severity, or lack of severity, of the shot by the noise produced.
Once the above equipment has been purchased, you are ready to enjoy playing one of the most satisfying and challenging games you could wish for.

Ping Pong is a simple game that everyone can play. Because of the fact that it doesn’t demand as much as other sports do, ping pong is very popular. You can play it in any weather, indoors, and you can also play it with minimal space.

Playing ping pong doesn’t require you to be very fast on your feet or strong, you just need to have a good stamina, good reflexes and the ability to think fast.

To start playing ping pong, the first things that you need to have are the equipment. You need to have a ping pong table with a net, a ping pong ball, and two paddles. To keep score, simple pen and paper will do the trick. Or, you can try hanging a white board with a marker on the wall near the ping pong table.

Aside from the basics, you will see that ping pong is an inexpensive game. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on accessories as you will just need clothes and pants that can let you move freely and shoes that are comfortable to wear. You can simply pick out anything that is inside your closet that is comfortable to wear and can let you move freely.

When it comes to your physical fitness, you don’t have to be a star athlete in order to play ping pong. If you can climb a flight of stairs without wheezing when you reach the top, then you will have no problems playing ping pong.

To play ping pong effectively, you will need to have quick reflexes, good balance and agile wrists.

You need to have fast reflexes because ping pong will require you to hit the ball with your paddle back and forth between you and your opponent at a very fast rate until one of you misses the ball or makes a mistake. The wrists are also a factor as it will be the one that you will move to adjust the angle of the paddle. This is what controls where the ball will go.

Also, balance is important as ping pong is a fast paced game. Although you don’t need to run fast to catch the ball, you need to know how to shift your body’s weight and balance quickly in order to adjust to your next shot.

Lastly, ping pong is like playing chess but at a very fast rate. You need to know what strategy you should do on your next shot in order for you to win. Placing shots where you want them to be will trap your opponent and let you prepare for the big finish.

These are the basics things that you need to know about ping pong as a beginner. By remembering these things, you will have everything that you need to start paddling away.

Milan, Italy (PRWEB) August 8, 2008

progeSOFT, the leader of low cost DWG CAD systems, has contributed to an important sports event of the year. progeSOFT became an active supporter of a friendly tennis table encounter between Italy and China, held within the initiatives of reconciliation after a dramatic episode occurred in Milan in Paolo Sarpi Street, an area with one of the biggest Chinese communities in Italy. The idea of the event was proposed by the Italian Ping Pong Federation (FITET) and the Chinese Consul General Zhang Limin and progeSOFT did not want to miss an opportunity of making their own active contribution taking into consideration the importance of the event.

This match between the national Chinese and Italian teams became a special interest due to the presence of numerous ping pong players with the highest rates in the world. Besides their well-known coach LIU Guoliang the Chinese team presented at the match WANG Liqin, Ma Lin, WANG Hao, CHEN Qi, HAO Shuai, BUT Long for male players and ZHANG Yining, WANG Nan, GUO Yan, JIA Jun, FAN Ying, CHEN Qing for female players. The show, taken place a couple of months before the beginning of the Olympic Games, was a rare occasion giving an opportunity to see the Chinese national team in the game. The numerous Chinese representatives and Italian amateurs presented at the match not only had an opportunity to watch the encounter between the Italian and Chinese sportsmen but also they enjoyed an absorbing ‘internal’ competition between WANG Liqin and Ma Lin who are both at the top of the ping pong world rank list. Further information with photos and a video of the match are available at http://www.progesoft.com

Question by sdlei: Momentum problem between a pingpong ball and a bowling ball?
A moving ping pong ball hits a stationary bowling ball. An elastic collision occurs, with the ping pong ball moving backward. Compare the momentum and kinetic energy between the ping pong ball and bowling ball after the collision. Thank you. =)

*Our professor had a hard time solving this

Best answer:

Answer by Davis
since the mass of the bowling ball dwarfs that of the ping pong ball, and the law that stats that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, the force of the impact of the collison is almost entirely exerted on the ping pong ball. This causes the the pp ball to move backwards at nearly the same speed at which it hit the bowling ball which remains stationary friction. In an ideal environment the bowling ball will move just slightly.

Question by Jake5282: Do you play Ping-Pong?
A king is sitting on his throne one day and is bored out of his mind. He decides to make a contest to kill his boredom. He tells his servant to send out for a person to find the biggest ping pong ball and the reward would be one million dollars.
So his servant announces this to the kingdom and everyone rushes out. The first man walks into the king’s castle and has a huge ball 2 feet long. The king is in shock and says, “That is a huge ping pong ball.” He tells the man to step aside, and wait for the others turn.
Another man brings a ping pong ball 4 feet long. The king is astonished, and says to the man, “Wow! That’s a humungous ball. I think you’ll probably be the winner, but lets wait to see the last person’s ball!”
The next man starts pushing this HUGE, hairy , bloody, brown thing into the kings castle. The king jumps up and screams, “Good god man! What kind of ping pong ball is that?”
The man replies, “Ping pong ball? Ping pong ball? I thought you said KING KONG’S *****?!?”

Ping pong, otherwise known as table tennis, is a popular indoor sport enjoyed by many around the world in facilities ranging from recreation clubs to school common rooms etc. Ping pong is very similar to tennis in that players on opposite sides of the ping pong table hit the ball back and forth over a net. But similarities end there as ping pong is played on a table surface rather than a hard court, thus the name “table tennis.” To enjoy a game of ping pong, you need a ping pong ball, a net, ping pong table, and paddles.

Rules of Ping Pong

In a ping pong game the first player to reach 21 points is declared the winner. However, upon one player reaching 21 points with the opponent trailing less than 2 points, the game must continue until one player takes a definite 2 point lead over the opponent, at which point that player is declared the winner.

To start a point the server serves the ball with the paddle to the opponent’s side of the ping pong table. If the server fails to serve the ball into play, either by serving the ball into the net or serving it out, the point goes to the opponent. Once the ball is in play either player can score points. The players must hit the ball back to the opponents’ side of the table. If one player fails to return the ball to the opponent’s side either by netting the ball or hitting it out, the point then goes to the opponent.

To start a point with a serve, the server throws the ping pong ball up at least 6 inches and as it comes down the server hits the ball with the paddle. Before crossing over the net the served ball must hit the server’s part of the table first before bouncing a second time on the opponent’s side. After the serve the ball remains in play as long as it clears the net and bounces once on the opponent’s side of the table with each stroke. The point ends either when a player hits the ball into the net, or when the ball goes out without bouncing at all on the opponent’s side of the table, at which time the opponent earns a point.

Ping pong games can be played as a single as well as a doubles game. In a doubles game, an additional rule is that the ball must be served diagonally across to the opposite court. If the server fails to serve to the diagonal area on the opposite side then the opponent gets the point.

As you can see the rules of the ping pong game is nice and simple enough so that anyone new to ping-pong can easily enjoy a game of ping-pong without much trouble and confusion.

Answer by Kenneth Teddy
Materials
1.Professional ping pong tables are made from manufactured hardwood such as Masonite. While any old piece of rectangular wood may work for some people, avoid woods that yield too high or low a bounce if possible. ITTF rules specify that a ball dropped from 11.81 inches (30 centimeters) should bounce approximately 9.055 inches (23 centimeters) on first bounce. Go to your local hardware or home repair supply store and look for sheets of high- or medium-density wood. If you wish to conform to ITTF standards, bring a ping pong ball with you and test out the bounce of various pieces of wood. Keep in mind that your painted coating may add to or decrease your ball’s bounce.

Use wood (such as 2×4′s) or metal for your legs and frame. Your table will need eight legs (four outer legs and four inner legs). Additional wood or metal to connect the legs horizontally is also recommended. For your net, purchase a ping pong net kit from a sporting goods supply store or make your own out of string, cardboard or even masking tape. Finally, you will need paint for your table. Paint your table any color you wish, although the most common colors are forest green and blue. In addition, you will need white paint for your lines/trim. Look for specific ping pong paint or any other type of low-friction coating.
Dimensions
2.Now that you know your basic materials, you will need your wood and net to conform to ping pong standards (unless you want to make an irregular ping pong table). According to ITTF rules, the professional table is a little less than 9 feet (107.87 inches) long by almost 5 feet wide (60.039 inches). Cut your wood into a perfect rectangle that adheres to these dimensions. Also note the thickness of your table. Since the standard ping pong table is 29.92 inches off the ground (or nearly 2.5 feet), make sure the wood for your legs takes into account the table’s thickness. For instance, if your table is 2 inches thick, you will want wood that’s 27.92 inches long for the legs. Your net should be 6 inches high and at least 6 inches longer than your table’s width across.
Procedures
3.Now that you have all your basic parts, construct your actual table. Attach legs and frame before you paint the table. To attach your legs, coat your legs with heavy-duty wood glue and then use L-brackets with screws or bolts to strengthen the bond. Use screws to connect your legs with horizontal wood supports. Before you attach anything with bolts, measure your table to make sure it’s the proper height all around.

After you complete your frame, begin your paint job. Most ping pong paints are spray-on. Follow the paint’s directions and use proper precautions. Apply two or three even coats. Once your paint dries, add your white trim around the entire perimeter of the table. Your white line should remain an even .787 inches (2 centimeters) wide. An additional line should extend from the midpoint of each end across the length of the table.

Once your paint dries, attach your net. If you purchase a professional net, it will come with brackets for attachment. For homemade nets, fit the ends of your net with a plastic or metal piece. The piece should cover the entire height of the net’s end and be around 3 inches long. Use brackets or other suitable materials to clip the piece to the table. Even if you do not want to use a professional net, go to your local sporting goods store to see the range of brackets and screws included in professional net kits. After you attach your net, make sure it is taut and maintain a height of 6 inches.

Hope i helped:)

A play of the table tennis has different parts which you should really understand, before you know the play. Apart from the table a ball, the net, the racquets, a conversion height is another part which is present at stake of the table tennis. Now what this is and where is he localised? Well…a table tennis conversion top is basically that part, which lies on the table of the table tennis. The conversion height is that the serving if the table tennis is played if the heavy and unwieldy legs (the stripe of these things and the Remanent depart is your conversion height). A conversion height can be fastened on a level surface, so that you can play any point. The conversion height fits very much to the families which live in the small houses. In the majority time these families run before the space a little to go up the table of normal stench of the ringing.

They can also “go up” a table tennis conversion top in a ‘play piece’ this has, hurries up with the space; fetch the tables of the space-using like the map just as the tables of the swimming-pool. Generally this is available in one of such size which would go on any table of normal swimming-pool with the light distance and the installation firmly like and if demanded. If you have decided, you should as consider a conversion height for the personal use, above all to shop, the height as the size of the table of the swimming-pool. They should also look at the other tables which you have in your house, while you buy the conversion height. However, is a very common disadvantage of conversion of the table tennis that many players are the opinion which can deliver the height of the conversion of the table tennis no real petrol of sport of the table tennis. So you should look at this factor if you take the table tennis to play severely. The conversion height is quite effective for the children and the families them want to use it on an occasional base and are not accustomed.

Dr. Johji Satoh was a studious boy while growing up in Japan, but he took some time to enjoy ping pong. In Japan preparing for college is taken very seriously, and there is little time for play. Table tennis is a good choice for relaxation because you can compress a lot of activity chasing a ball into a short amount of time and smashing a table-tennis ball can be very satisfying after a long period of studying.

When you play ping pong, you quickly learn to adapt your game to the conditions in which you play. If there’s not much room around the table, you have to be prepared to lunge across the table rather than fall back or sideways to gain time to respond to an opponent’s shot.

If the ceiling is low, you have to get to the ball before it caroms crazily off that obstacle. If the table has quirky spots that affect how the ball bounces, you plan your ready position and shots to take those potential bounces into account.

In spite of his hard work, Dr. Satoh did not do very well in school but was accepted at Keio University in Tokyo where he studied economics and management. After college, he worked for a boutique stock brokerage firm in Tokyo where he learned more about a topic that had been introduced during his college studies: the role of financial options and futures to buy and sell at predetermined prices. His work brought him to the United States, and he became fascinated by the lectures he attended with American economic and finance professors.

Taking the option to learn more English, Dr. Satoh studied at the ESL Institute of Tulane University. Once he had improved his language skills, he took an MBA degree from New Hampshire College (now Southern New Hampshire University) Graduate School of Business. For one of his courses he wrote a term paper on a regression model of financial option pricing, which encouraged him to study more about various types of options.

Returning to Japan, Dr. Satoh encountered the great economic depression in that country. Jobs in financial services were hard to find, and he trained to become a management consultant. From this work, Dr. Satoh realized that he needed more knowledge about management and business options to help his clients. By now, he had become fascinated with a new concept, real options, in which the concepts of financial options are transformed into management tools for creating better business results.

The point in ping pong is to be prepared for the ball’s movement as quickly and exactly as possible. As you know, the ball seems to bounce randomly, but the players must move to intercept the direction of a shot based on the shot angle, spin, speed, and where the ball lands while allowing for randomness. In ping pong terms, real options might be considered as helping players anticipate where the ball is coming next: The point for real options is to anticipate future cash flows for business projects to realize better business results. Real options are designed to take out most of the randomness.

In a business context, real options may be thought of as valuable decision-making tools through exacter anticipation of the cash flow of projects with uncertain value changes such as oil exploration and development of new drugs. It is difficult to predict the future cash flows of a drug development project because it has various risks such as efficacy, side effects, rising material prices, and the market movement.

If a rival company takes a lead in developing a similar drug product, the project might be discontinued after much wasted expense. So the management team must watch the project and its market environment carefully, calculating the cash flow from the project at each development stage, which is the stochastic process. In that process, the random movement of cash flow, like the seemingly random ball movement in ping pong, is presumed.

Because of his fascination with real options and his sense that they were poorly developed by most academics and consultants, Dr. Satoh decided he wanted to become a professor of management in a university, write books about real options, and provide consulting services that would add to the practical applications of this concept.

Where could Dr. Satoh gain the opportunity to do such cutting edge work in real options while that subject was barely developed in most universities? Dr. Satoh cast his research net wide and discovered Rushmore University, where he could do his real options work under the supervision of professors who were well-known authorities in finance and business model innovation. The university also offered great flexibility in designing his course of study.

Working on real options at Rushmore, Dr. Satoh developed the mathematics to correct for the assumption of randomness in business conditions that is incorporated into financial options. Why did he do this?

Like the ball movement in ping pong, results in the business world are not always random. He also wrote papers defining major opportunities to operate conventional businesses more successfully by employing business models built around new types of real options that he conceived.

Since graduating with his Ph.D., Dr. Satoh has developed a real option application model applied for a patent that built on his university work to help publicize and increase understanding of how real options can be used to create superior business models. In addition, he founded AlphaPoint Consulting, LLC., an online consulting firm, to provide services in developing business skills and real options based on his Rushmore papers. Through the consulting firm, he also offers a free online business school where people can learn about business methods including real options.
What’s next? Dr. Satoh sees his progress to date as developing his Ph.D. brain so that he can create innovative solutions to difficult business problems with uncertain value changes that have frustrated people for a long time.
Having benefited from developing his thinking, he wants to do more of the same. He continues his studious ways, teaching himself and others to advance this important frontier of business knowledge and practice, creating superior business models by employing real options.

You never know what you can learn to do until you try. Where do you need to stretch your reach to keep an opportunity from passing you by?

Donald W. Mitchell is a professor at Rushmore University.

Everyday living requires us to engage in activities that will help keep our mind and body fit. Here, your interest in sports can be so useful as it can be a form of enjoyment and a form of exercise as well. One sport that can become your passion is ping pong. Believed to have started in Victorian times, ping pong has never failed to become one of the most popular sports across the globe. Have you tried playing ping pong at least once in your life? If not, then read the following facts and see for yourself why you should try doing it now.

Fact #1: Like I have said, sports keep your mind and body fit. Table tennis will keep you healthy as you sweat while playing this game. Body wastes are released through sweating and we all know that waste release is good for our health. Playing ping pong also keeps our minds sharp. It will allow you to strategize and make game plans of your own.

Fact #2:Playing ping pong keeps you socialized. You get to mingle, meet and greet new and old friends, families, and co-workers while playing this game. Sportsmanship and healthy competition will be developed in playing ping pong. It can also be a good bonding activity with your loved-ones.

Fact #3: Unlike golf or tennis, ping pong will make you save bucks because it does not require expensive sporting gears on. Just having a ping-pong ball anywhere and a good paddle that is inexpensive, you’ll definitely won’t lose fortune in playing this sport.

Fact #4: Anyone and everyone can play ping pong. Age and gender is no issue when you play ping pong. The thrill and enjoyment is much more important than any other aspects in the game.

Fact #5: Table tennis is absolutely a game to enjoy yourself! Playing ping pong can be a hell of fun! It is easy to play and is never ending in giving you much more reasons to play. Also, ping pong can be not just a sport, but a lifestyle! Rise to the challenge and see that it’s something you’ll always enjoy.

You can go check the ping-pong table and carry along the paddle and play right away.

If you have just begun playing ping pong than it is critical for you to have some basic knowledge on what ping pong equipment you will need to avoid buying an inferior quality product that may not last the distance. For example most beginners may think all ping pong balls are the same and that what is readily available would suit their requirements. The facts are there are a number of different aspects that you will need to be aware of with regard to quality. In this article I will discuss what you should know before buying ping pong balls and the steps you will need to take before choosing the best type of ball that will suit your needs.

Ping Pong Balls and Star Quality
If you examine a ping pong ball you will notice there is often a number of stars on the ball. These stars are used as an indicator of a ping pong balls quality. The stars are numbered from one to three with the lowest quality ball starting at 1 star. If you want to use a durable ball that has been made from quality materials and will last the distance, then buying a 3 star ping pong ball will best suit your needs.

Finding Ping Pong Balls For Sale
Now that we have covered the different qualities of ping pong balls the next step is to find out where to buy them. Ping Pong Balls like most other items of ping pong equipment can be sourced from a number of different retail outlets including local sports shops, large department stores, specialty ping pong stores and through online suppliers. What I have found is that local sports and department stores often stock the lower quality 1 and 2 star balls while speciality ping pong stores stock the higher quality 3 star balls which are also ITTF approved.

Conclusion
If you are just a beginner starting out playing ping pong then the number of stars a ball has or what quality it is should not be a concern. However, after you have come to grips with some of the basic ping pong skills, begin to play the sport competitively and enter tournaments will you need to look at playing with higher quality ping pong balls and other items of ping pong equipment.
