The Provo Reservoir Canal pipeline is being filled with water! It will be tested for a few days and then placed in service on May 1. Crews are working to finish the final grading of the canal corridor and other construction items. When all this is done, the corridor can be turned over to the trail contractor to begin paving the trail. This work is most likely to begin sometime this summer and start on the border of Pleasant Grove and Cedar Hills, proceeding north. Construction is expected to begin on the trailhead at Canyon Road, with the trailhead in Lindon to follow thereafter. Two trailheads nearing completion can be seen at the extreme west end of Bull River Road in Lehi or behind Lone Peak High School in Highland.

Mainline PRCEP construction continues to progress with most of the Pleasant Grove Siphon nearing completion. The remainder of the siphon construction will not be completed until after irrigation deliveries cease in October and the Jordan Aqueduct is dewatered this winter.

During construction activities this month the Jordan Aqueduct (JA-4) was shut down twice as a result of accidental and emergency incidents. The first was a puncture caused by the ripper teeth on a construction bulldozer near Station 471. The second incident involved a valve rupture as Ames was preparing to use a blow off structure to provide water into the canal from JA-4 so that a section of the canal between Orem and Pleasant Grove could be dewatered. This would have allowed construction activities to begin four weeks earlier in this reach of the canal. Due to these problems, Ames elected to return to the original schedule and begin mainline construction after October 1, 2011.

Utility relocation work in Lindon continues in preparation for construction to begin once water has been taken out of the canal on October 1, 2011.

Preliminary work has continued on the Parallel Siphon Pipeline. Pipe has been ordered and many submittals are in the review process. There have been several coordination meetings with the Stakeholders, UDOT and others in preparation for construction to begin in October. All of the mainline steel cans have been rolled at Northwest Pipe’s plant in Adelanto, California. They are working on the cement mortar coating and fabricating special fittings in anticipation of shipping for construction to begin in early October.

Association Activities
The Association will hold its annual Board of Directors tour on Thursday, September 22, 2011. The Board will tour portions of the PRCEP and view the construction in action.

See the Association Activities page for more information about activities maintenance crews have to complete as part of regular autumn duties at the Association.
