Operations and administrative personnel are completing the accounting for all the water collected, stored and distributed during the 2012 water year. Work to complete and close out the Provo Reservoir Canal Enclosure Project (PRCEP) continues. Additional work is underway to complete the transfer of title of the Provo Reservoir Canal corridor and facilities (now referred to as the Provo River Aqueduct or PRA) from the U. S. government to Association ownership. This title transfer is expected to be completed later in 2013.

Maintenance personnel have been assisting the PRCEP contractor in preparing the PRA for its fall shutdown and final inspection. They have also been working to prepare Project facilities for winter and next year’s spring runoff.

The construction of the Provo Reservoir Canal Enclosure Project is nearly complete and water is flowing through the pipe. Work is underway to make the final wiring and connections to allow remote control of the turnouts. Association personnel are learning how to operate this new facility.

In other areas, the Association is focused on delivering water as efficiently as possible. The very dry winter and spring have left water shortfalls and require extra conservation efforts.

Utah County has started construction of the Murdock Canal Trail that will be on top of the Provo Reservoir Canal. There will be more than 15 miles of paved trails, six trailheads and numerous interconnections with other trails or trail systems.

Preparing the Pipeline

The Provo Reservoir Canal pipeline is being filled with water! It will be tested for a few days and then placed in service on May 1. Crews are working to finish the final grading of the canal corridor and other construction items. When all this is done, the corridor can be turned over to the trail contractor to begin paving the trail. This work is most likely to begin sometime this summer and start on the border of Pleasant Grove and Cedar Hills, proceeding north. Construction is expected to begin on the trailhead at Canyon Road, with the trailhead in Lindon to follow thereafter. Two trailheads nearing completion can be seen at the extreme west end of Bull River Road in Lehi or behind Lone Peak High School in Highland.

1100 N in Pleasant Grove will close to traffic at the Provo Reservoir Canal crossing starting Wednesday, December 21, 2011.

1200 N in Orem is closed to traffic at the Provo Reservoir Canal crossing.

400 East in Orem is closed to traffic at the south side of the Provo Reservoir Canal crossing.

Thanksgiving Way / Pony Express Road near the Point of the Mountain is closed to traffic from the Staker Parsons pit entrance in Utah County to the Owell Pit in Salt Lake County.

Alpine Highway (SR-74) currently has lane shifts in place just north of Fox Hollow Golf Course while work on construction of a pedestrian underpass takes place.

There is a road closure on Battle Creek Drive in Pleasant Grove at the crossing of the Provo Reservoir Canal starting November 1. Click here for Battle Creek Detour information.

400 North in Lindon will also be closed to traffic at the crossing of the Provo Reservoir Canal starting next week.

Construction work in coming weeks

The main line crew is currently installing the 126-inch pipe near Point of the Mountain. Construction work is continuing in phases moving from 4000 West (Cedar Hills) to Point of the Mountain. Expect to see work in the canal commencing in Lindon in first week of October, just north of 200 South and progressing northwest.

Work on the Pleasant Grove Siphon is underway in northeast Pleasant Grove; expect to encounter construction vehicles entering and exiting the construction zone from 1800 North and 360 East. Expect to see crews working in the canal between 1600 North and 2000 North in Orem.
