Drinks are at 7pm, Dinner at 8pm with dancing to follow. Carriages at 1am. Black tie is optional. If you require any further information please contact Sara Hicken on 01789 730952.

**BAG 2 SCHOOL: *PLEASE NOTE DATE ON BAG IS WRONG- CORRECT DATE IS WED 25^TH NOV.**

You should have received your bag to fill last Friday. If you require more bags please ask the school office or use black refuse sacks. All clothing collected by Bag2School is sold to importers and wholesalers in many countries of Eastern and Western Europe, Africa and Asia. 80 % of discarded clothing goes for reuse as clothes and the other 20 % enters the recycling industry. Bag2School is a good way to dispose of unwanted clothing, raise money for your school. We get paid by the weight- £400 per tonne!

Bag2School is interested in collecting quality second hand ladies’, men’s and children`s clothing, as well as bedding, curtains, soft toys, shoes, belts and handbags. Please have a pre-Christmas clear out and fill your bag, then bring it to the top of Breach Lane where it meets Langley Road from 8am on 25^th November.

Christmas Fun Fridays & Children In Need.

Thank you to Reception for this afternoons Fun Friday. We will let you know how much they have raised next week. Next week is Year 1’s turn. Please note all proceeds from next week’s sale will be donated to Children in Need.

Claverdon Church Christmas Fete.

This is on Saturday 28^th November at the Church Centre. Your PTA will be hosting a Rock Stall selling crystals, rocks, minerals and even sharks teeth! Please put this date in your diary and come along to support us.

Christmas Production Support.

This year, in the same way as previous years, we will be selling refreshments at our Christmas Productions. If you are able to assist us with this please let a committee member know as soon as possible. Productions are on 8^th & 9^th December with the infant’s performance at 1.45pm, junior’s at 7pm.

The Giving Machine

On our school website there is a link to www.thegivingmachine.co.uk. Every time you shop at the 200+ shops they give us, your PTA commission (up to 50%). It is money for us with no inconvenience to you. Shops include Argos, Tesco, John Lewis, iTunes, ELC & Boots so please don’t forget when doing your Christmas shopping.

NON-UNIFORM DAY Friday 13^th November.

Mrs Gover has kindly agreed that our children may attend school in non-uniform on this day in return for donating an item (or items) for our Christmas Hampers. Usual items are food/ drinks to be included in our festive hampers. Items can be placed given to your child's teacher.

Please spend five minutes to complete this for us. It will help us tailor events that suit you and your family and help us ensure we spend any money we raise on items you, as parents, want. Thank you.

Christmas Fun Fridays.

Yes it’s that time of year again! Reception will start us off by hosting their Fun Friday in the playground, after school next Friday, 13^th November.

Bags 2 School.

Bags will shortly be distributed via your child. Please fill your bag with unwanted clothes and linen and deposit it at the top of Breach Lane where it meets Langley Road from 8am on 25^th November. Please do not bring your unwanted items into school as we do not have space to store items. Many thanks.

DON’T FORGET TO BUY YOUR TICKETS AFTER HALF TERM!

Tickets are now available by completing the attached slip and returning it to the office or from a committee member. Tickets are £25 each and include arrival drink, dinner and a disco hosted. This promises to be a fantastic night out so please come along and enjoy yourself whilst supporting your school.

Voucher Schemes.

Currently we are collecting the following vouchers- collection boxes are situated opposite the library in school or there is box at the Community Shop.

Morrisons Let’s Grow ’09 scheme.

A huge range of gardening items are available via collecting tokens for purchases in excess of £10 e.g. garden tools, compost, seeds, even sheds!

Tokens will be issued until 01/11/2009 and school needs to receive all tokens by 13 November to be able to make the order deadline.

Books for Schools.

The Times is running a scheme whereby vouchers from various Times papers can be redeemed for books for the school. Please look out for these and cut them out. Vouchers will be issued until 6 December this year.

Nestle Box Tops for Books.

We can obtain good quality Dorling Kindersley books for the school by collecting Nestle cereal box tops. This scheme is ongoing until next March so please don’t forget to cut the voucher off the top of nestle cereal boxes and bring them to school by 12 March 2010.

Parental Questionnaires.

Hopefully everyone received a parental questionnaire with last week’s newsletter. If you did not receive one please ask at the school office for a copy of it. Please try and spend five minutes over the half term break to complete this for us. It will help us tailor events that suit you and your family and help us ensure we spend any money we raise on items you, as parents want. Thank you.

The date for the Bag2School Collection has been changed to November 25^th. Please amend your calendars.

The Book Fair will be running shortly after school. Children will be viewing books with their teachers as well during the day time. The school raises a lot of money for books for the library, so if you want to get some new books at the moment or an award for a great effort after the parents evening, please come along and buy a book!

The PTA support the event by helping to man the stall. Taking payment for books – that is all. So YEAR REPS please could you get 2 volunteers from each year group as below to assist on the stall from 3.15-3.45 maximum.

This will be held at the Dorothea Mitchell Hall on 16^th October, 7.30-11.00pm. We have changed the venue this year so that we can have more people at the event. This is a fantastic fun night for the adults and Mr. Phil Upton is a great Quiz Master. So please come along. You will need to buy tickets from members of the PTA of through a reply slip to the school office. Tickets are £7.50 each and includes your supper! Bring your own drinks and glasses…

We will be running through funding requests and the schedule of fun activities that we are proposing for this school year! Parental support is vital. MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING SEPTEMBER 25^TH AFTER FAMILY ASSEMBLY / TREAT FRIDAY AFTERNOON

To support “The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning 2009” we are holding the above event. So why not stay after the assembly for some refreshments and help raise some money for a worthwhile charity. Any donations of cakes and biscuits and help would be much appreciated. Please drop them in to the school office on Friday morning. FAMILY BINGO AFTERNOON

This will be held at the Claverdon Church Centre on Sunday 27^th September at 3.30 – 5.30pm. Tickets are £3.00 each (pre-school children are free). This includes four games of Bingo with prizes within each game upon completion of a line and a full house! Coffee/Tea and Cake will be available to purchase as will drinks and snacks for the children. Tickets available by completing the attached slip and returning it to the office. Your tickets will then be sent home with your child. Tickets are selling fast so don’t leave it too late! Tickets will not be available on the door. Over the past year we have managed to collect a staggering 16,000 vouchers for Tesco School Equipment as well as 16,000 Sainsbury vouchers. Items including part of a playground trim trail have now been ordered and our children will have the benefit of these from September.

Our last fun Friday is actually on Thursday, July 16, 2009 after school. It’s Year 3’s turn so please support us and buy a treat! Last time, Year 2 & 5 raised £60 so a huge thank you to everyone.

Vacancies!

We are in desperate need of more people to help us with the following roles from September:

YEAR 1 & YEAR 3 REPS.
We need one person from each class who will help us communicate with parents. You do not need to attend meetings or arrange nights out etc- it is not an onerous role…PROMISE!!
PTA ADMIN ASSISTANT.
We need someone to write up the monthly minutes and write the monthly newsletter. This requires someone to spend 30 mins per week helping the school.

PTA NEWS

At Monday’s meeting, Becky Muller stood down as Chair and Sara Hicken was voted to replace her. Thank you to Becky for all her hard work over the past year. It was thanks to Becky that the drainage on our field is working well and our school has outside lighting for Clover Club/ after school activities. A letter from Sara is attached for you all to read.

Year 2 Rep

With Sara taking over as Chair there is a vacancy for a new year 2 rep. Please speak to Sara if you are willing to assist. The year reps do not have to attend every meeting but are simply a point of contact between the PTA and parents.

Fun Fridays

Last week Year 2 & Year 4 raised £62.22. Thank you.

Bags2school

Thank you to everyone, our recent collection raised £186.

100 Club

First prize (£44.25) for June went to J. Hills. Second prize (£14.75) for June went to KS Williams. As always, if anyone would like to join please contact Anne Hamilton (hamilton.a@virgin.net).

School Fair and Fun Run

Approximately, £1400 was taken on the day for the fair and £400 for the fun run. The final sums will be in excess of these amounts as match funding and gift aid have yet to be claimed. A fantastic result- especially given the dreadful weather-Thank you to everyone who supported us by helping and spending at the fair!

SUMMER DISCO:- MONDAY 29^th JUNE

ALL CONSENT FORMS AND MONEY MUST BE LEFT AT THE OFFICE BEFORE 9AM ON MONDAY MORNING. NO MONEY/ CONSENT FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED ON THE NIGHT.

The Infants disco will be from 6.15 to 7.15pm and the Junior disco from 7.30 to 8.30pm.

Arrangements this year are as follows:

Entry is from the Playground only (door adjacent to YR3 classroom). The main school entrance will be locked for safety.
You will then be directed to the correct desk to sign in your child in (this is a legal requirement)
You may then leave your child and collect an hour later or you may wait with siblings in the area outside YR2 Classroom where refreshments will be available
Following the Disco, your child may be collected from the following classrooms (please use the back doors off the field to collect your child) where you must sign them out to confirm collection:
- Reception Receptions classroom
- YR1 YR1 classroom
- YR2 YR2 classroom
- YR3 Receptions classroom
- YR4 YR1 classroom
- YR5 & YR6 YR2 classroom
You may then exit from the back door of each classroom onto the school field
A drink and sweets will be provided for each child following the disco

Dear All

I wanted to have an opportunity to introduce myself as the new Chairperson of the PTA. I am Sara Hicken, mother of Kaitlin Year 2 and Helena Year R, and Harry 13 months old. I am taking over from Becky Muller, who has done such a fantastic job and would like to thank her for all her hard work and continued support on the PTA and helping in the classroom.

I want to give you an update of the PTA meeting held this week. It was a very useful meeting and there is a lot to action!

The Parent Governors wish to have better open channels of communication between the Governors, parents, teachers, PTA. They will be informing us all at the next meeting how this can be achieved.

We spent time on the PTA constitution; this is the document that gives us guidelines of how we run the PTA committee. We are working on a mission statement which will give us a clear direction of what we actually want to achieve over the next PTA year.

As informed in a recent newsletter, we discussed how the PTA is going to spend the £10,000 of money raised to date. We have agreed to spend £5000 towards the cost of the renovation of the Jnr toilets and the ones that are within the classrooms of Yr 3, this work should be completed by the end of this calendar year! This is great news and I am sure that children and parents will be really pleased.

The following items have also been suggested and will be voted upon next meeting, before the end of term.

ICT Visualisers – Similar to OHP but for Interactive boards @ £300.00 each x 6
Activate Programme – Helping to stimulate children’s brains before lessons with the use of music and P.E. – brain training £2000
Some fantastic play equipment, Giant Musical Instruments to form an outside trim trail overall cost would be approximately £5000 although part of this cost can be met by using the sports vouchers collected.

Some fab ideas!!!

So if you think that one of the above is more worthwhile than another.... come along to the next PTA meeting! Have your say and your vote!!!!

ALL Teachers and Parents are members of the PTA if you come to meetings or not, but if you want to make a difference come to the meetings!!!

PTA MEETING.

This is at the Crown on 22^nd June at 7.30pm not the non existent Royal Oak. Apologies!!! Sara Hicken has said she would be willing to replace Becky Muller as Chair person of the PTA, who is standing down at the meeting.

As previously explained this is an important meeting- we are going to review our constitution as well as decide what funds should be spent on. If you have an opinion then this is the time to come along to express it. As always, everyone is welcome.

BARN DANCE 10^th JULY 2009.

This event is for the whole family to enjoy an evening of fun together- YEEHAA!!

Friends & Family are welcome to accompany you.

It is to be held at Hatton Country World Marquee, 6.30-10.30pm.

The price is £10 for adults, £3.50 for children. Pre- School children are free.

The price includes entrance to our line dancing competition, as well as a delicious BBQ.

Bring your own soft or alcoholic drinks/ deserts.

Fancy Dress is optional!

Tickets are available from your year reps and/ or committee members. Alternatively if you may use the tear off slip below and hand it into the office- we will then return tickets to you via your child.

Fun Friday!

Last week Reception and Year six raised £59, which was wonderful. Thank you for all those people who helped out and all who purchased a cake. Next week it is YR1 & YR5’s turn to sell their edible goods (on 19^th June, after school in the playground).

MONDAY JUNE 29,

Following tradition, we will be holding the children’s discos again this term - the date is Monday 29^th June and Phil Upton has kindly agreed to DJ for us.

The Infants disco will be from 6.15 to 7.15pm and the Junior disco from 7.30 to 8.30pm.

Arrangements this year are as follows:

● Entry is from the Playground only (door adjacent to YR3 classroom). The main school entrance will be locked for safety.

● You will then be directed to the correct desk to sign in your child in (this is a legal requirement)

● You may then leave your child and collect an hour later or you may wait with siblings in the area outside YR2 Classroom where refreshments will be available

● Following the Disco your child may be collected from the following classrooms (please use the back doors off the field to collect your child) where you must sign them out to confirm collection:

Reception - Reception’s classroom
YR1 - YR1 classroom
YR2 - YR2 classroom
YR3 – Reception’s classroom
YR4 -YR1 classroom
YR5 & YR6 - YR2 classroom

● You may then exit from the back door of each classroom onto the school field

● A drink and sweets will be provided for each child following the disco

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help out; despite the Great British Weather doing it’s best to spoil things it was a huge success.

Fun Run Warm Up is at 12.15, run begins at 12.30pm.

Sold Raffle tickets can be given to the PTA Stall on Saturday.

Hay Bales.
Help us source three hale bales for the fun run urgently. In addition, we need help one more person to help James Hickens and Andy Pruthi at 9.30am on the 16^thto distribute the hay along the route. If you can help please call Sara Hicken on 01789 730952.

Please register before race day as there will be no entrants on the day and you need to get your sponsorship sorted! Entry Forms, together with Sponsorship Forms, are available from the School Office.

Raffle tickets.

Please try and sell these – all profits go to the school- and return completed stubs and money office before May 16, 2009.

Both these companies will have stalls at the fair. They have agreed to donate 10-15% of any sales either on the day or via their websites during the month of May to the PTA. Codes to identify yourselves and website details will be available at the fair.

SPRING FAIR & FUN RUN MAY 16, 2009.

Arrangements are now well underway for this year’s Spring Fair and Fun Run to be held on May 16, 2009. Please note the time of the fair has changed for this year. Stalls will open following the fun run at 1pm.

We are particularly looking for helpers to:

be a Marshall for the Fun Run.
Same route as in previous years along Langley Road, looping around the School along the Public access footpath into Breach Lane and back to School. We need people to guide and help runners along the route. If you can help please contact Sara Hicken on 01789 730952.
Run stalls for an hour during the fair. If you can help please contact Becky Muller or Claire Williams (numbers below).
Donations are required for our tombola.
Boxes are in classrooms from Tuesday, May 5 so please dig out and donate any item you feel may be suitable. In return your child may participate in our non-uniform day on Friday, May 8.

This year there will be nearly new school uniform stall. Please can you let us have any donations of unwanted school uniform which is in reasonable condition.

Phones 4 schools.

We need another 25 mobile phones to obtain a cheque for £200. There will be a bin to collect any phones you may have (or ask family and friends for some) at the school fair.

TIMES BOOK VOUCHERS.

Thank you to everyone who collected these. The school has ordered 14 books free of charge! The Times are currently running another scheme so please keep collecting and sending them into school.

Fun Run 16^th May 2009 12.30 pm Start.

This year instead of charging an entrance fee for participation in the Fun Run we thought it would be fun for everyone to get sponsored by friends/ family. You will see attached to this newsletter there is a sponsorship form. May we suggest you ask for the money up front and remember to ask the person donating to tick the gift aid box as this enables us to claim back up to 25%!

We still need a few course marshals so please if you are willing to assist let Sara Hicken or Becky Muller know asap.

April’s winners are Karen Skilling (1^st prize) and Mel Johnson (2^nd Prize).

Results!!!

As you will have noticed due to the PTA we now have lighting at the entrance to our School. Due to some clever negotiating on our part we managed to persuade the Council that they should fund this. The real benefits of these lights will be noticed during the winter months for Clover Club and any extra curricular activities after school.

In addition, we have had the drainage system on our field serviced to ensure that the pump is in working order- again due to applying pressure on the council they have footed the bill for this.

Next on our list to get repaired/replaced are the windows in Classrooms 3, 4 & 5 as well as the toilets in the junior school part of the building- so watch this space!

Tokens

Just a reminder we are currently collecting Tesco, Sainsbury, Flora, Nestlé cereal book tokens. We are also happy to have old printer cartridges and mobile phones. The Times scheme is about to end so please remember to bring these in asap. There are boxes outside Classroom 4 and there is now a box in the community shop for your convenience. These do make a difference so please keep collecting!

Spring Fair

This will take place on 16^th May. The response to our request for helpers has been fantastic but this year we would love to make sure that everyone running a stall also gets a chance to enjoy the fair with their children themselves. To make this happen we still need more helpers – whether you can help set up / man a stall for an hour / help clear up please let one of the PTA committee know.

Gazebo Appeal!

We are asking now for the fair. We need as many gazebo’s as possible to ensure that if it rains we have it covered. Please let one of the Committee members know if you are willing to let us borrow your gazebo for the afternoon.

Phones 4 School

Thank you so much to everyone who collected phones -in total we collected 115 phones. We need to reach 200 phones to receive a £300 cheque so it is our intention to run this again in September … so don’t throw any phones out as they could earn you a prize and your school money!

Tesco Vouchers

Under the Tesco voucher scheme we can exchange used printer toners/ cartridges for extra vouchers. So please bring your used cartridges into school - ask at work if you can have theirs too.

We are collecting these so please remember to keep them off the top of your cereal box and bring them into school.

As you are aware our children have been busy completing their own portraits and those of the staff! These have been sent to the printers and tea towels (made from 100% cotton) are now available to pre-order at £4.50 each or 2 for £8.00. A form for this is below, please complete and send it together with a Cheque made payable to ‘Claverdon School PTA’ to the office. Tea towels will be distributed on 20^th March – just in time for Mother’s Day.
