Pacific Catch also topped the envelope contribution totals at $2,220. Second was Celia’s in Palo Alto with $1171.

Total Pacific Catch Donation = $5620

In March and April two different events were held at Pacific Catch to benefit the San Francisco and Marin Food Bank. The shrimp menu promotion, which involved donating a $1 for every special entrée ordered, brought in $672 and proceeds from the April 16th4sqdaySF event was rounded to $1000 totaling a $1672 donation.

For every $1 donated to the Food Bank, $6 worth of food is distributed into the community therefore our $1672 donation is worth $10,032 in food distribution.

97% of all donations go directly toward getting food to hungry people.

Yelp's Holiday Hangover Night 3: Silent Storm Sound System's Neon Beat @ Big Daddy's 1.11.12

Written by Alyssa Arian from 9th Ave.

Take an impressive antique warehouse, fill it with delicious drinks, scrumptious snacks, decadent desserts, and silent dancing, and what do you get? – A happy crowd. Wednesday was the third night of Yelp’s annual 5-night Holiday Hangover party, held at Big Daddy’s Antiques. Each night’s different theme was reflected in the vendors’ products and attendees’ outfits. I came along as part of the Pacific Catch team and was glad to see a variety of great offerings from local businesses. Companies such as Skyy and Rye on the Road kicked off the night with creative cocktails like “Woo Hoo’s” and sparkling Long Islands. Near our booth was Eat Curbside - with a line that never seemed to shorten. Puccini & Pinetti featured beef carpaccio crostini with horseradish goat cheese and vegetable skewers. Guests were treated to delicate rolled Jewish pastries called Rugelach, provided by Doll’s Kitchen, in two flavors: chocolate-raspberry and apricot-raisin. I was thrilled to indulge in Neo Cocao’s exquisite shell-less truffles in a variety of flavors (the fresh ginger truffle was especially impressive). Polkadotties Cookies delighted the crowd with their macaroons, shortbread, and what was probably the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve encountered. Silent Storm Sound System put a fun twist on the music by providing headphones that played three different music channels: a playlist and two in-house DJs. The highlight of the night was seeing a group of people dancing together in a silent room. And there was no need to fear the fun being forgotten; thanks to Snap Fiesta, you could capture the best moments with their interactive photo booth. They provided wigs, glasses, and other costume props that were well received among the photo booth-goers. Snap Fiesta also set up a pedal that allowed everyone to control the timing of their own shots! It was definitely a hit. From the food to the drinks, the music, the photos, and the endless array of interesting antique items at the venue, Wednesday night’s party was a great time. It reflected Yelp’s passion for connecting local businesses and community. I’m already looking forward to next year’s party.

Marin "Holiday Sweater" TweetUp

Marin "Holiday Sweater" TweetUp:
Social Media Holiday Kick Off Event.
Foursquare Day, to be appropriately celebrated this Saturday on the 16th day (literally, four squared) of the 4th month of the year, originally began as a globally-celebrated day for fans of the social media platform to come together and celebrate all things Foursquare while also checking-in with local businesses.

This year, San Francisco’s Foursquare Day, officially hosted by Pacific Catch Restaurants, and co-hosted by local culinary consulting group The Culinary Edge, will use the holiday and power of social media as a means to raise money to support Japanese Earthquake Relief.

“In year’s past, we have celebrated Foursquare Day simply as a way to connect with fellow Foursquare users and unlock coveted badges. However, in light of the recent events in Japan we felt that we had to do something,” says Chamin Mills, marketing and events manager at Pacific Catch.

Much like last year, the San Francisco’s official Foursquare Day party will be taking place at Pacific Catch’s Ninth Avenue location with hopes of unlocking a “Super Swarm” badge. However, this year’s celebration is much bigger with an outdoor BBQ, live band, beer and wine booths and 100% of the proceeds will be donated directly to the American & Japanese Red Cross to help rebuild those areas affected by last month’s earthquake.

To raise money, party-goers will be able to purchase food, drink, & the official “4sqdaySF” t-shirts:

Support Local Businesses!

April 4, 2011

Dear Mayor Lee,

We’re writing you today to ask for your proclamation of April 16, 2011 to be Foursquare Day in San Francisco. The date’s significance as 4/16, which is the number four squared, has gained Global recognition in the past year and is now celebrated with more than 300 events and check-in specials all over the world. Seven cities have already made this proclamation and many more are joining the list. We would like San Francisco to be one of them.

Foursquare is more than just an exciting social media application; it also fosters local growth in the business community. Many businesses leverage Foursquare’s free ability to offer specials for “checking-in” to their location. This valuable, economical tool has evolved into a great way businesses of any size, can reward loyal customers and build awareness in their community.

The official 2011 Foursquare Day slogan, “When the World is your Venue”, is truly being embraced by the 4sqdaySF community. This year a fundraising component has been added where 100% of the proceeds from the main event’s food, beverage, raffle and tee shirt sales will be donated to the American and Japanese Red Cross. San Francisco will be checking-in locally April 16th while also checking-in with Japan and our global community.

As the official Mayor of San Francisco, on behalf of the city’s large number of Foursquare users and social media savvy sophisticates, we find it appropriate to designate April 16th Foursquare Day. With your help we can use Foursquare Day as a way to drive support to our local business community and help the San Francisco Foursquare community discover fun, new ways to explore our great city.

Signed on behalf of the 4sqdaySF planning committee,

100% of proceeds from the food, beverage and raffle sales will be donated to the American Red Cross through the Sapporo USA matching program tax ID 53-0196605.

100% of the limited edition tee shirt sales will go directly to the Japanese Red Cross.

If you would like to participate in this event either by being an onsite vendor, donating product or by donating a raffle prize, please contact Judy Hsu at judy@culinaryedge.com.

Marketing Manager, Chamin Mills sent a DM tweet to Lauren this morning and within seconds she had already responded and announced to her coworkers that she WON!

Lauren is a BIG Pacific Catch fan and comes to the 9th Ave. location weekly with her boyfriend. She even celebrated her 21st birthday at Pacific Catch 9th Ave. 2 years ago. She has pictures to prove it!

“It’s great to have a winner that is also a big fan of the restaurant” says Chamin Mills.

If you’re friends with Lauren, give her a call, you might be one of the lucky ones that gets to join her on Saturday.

Who could have predicted that our recent volunteer outing would end up conflicting with Game One of the World Series? Needless to say, I was incredibly touched when every single one of the team members who had signed up to garden in the park actually arrived! We took on the very same clearing as last time, the one bordered by 7th Avenue and Lincoln Blvd, and we made some serious progress. On our initial outing there, we weeded, patched up the grass and encircled the trees with flowers and wood shavings. This time around, we actually carved a walking path through the meadow and cleared away enough underbrush to camouflage a tank, otherwise known as some lucky park-goers’ silver Acura… James, our park liaison, had chosen this particular spot near to our restaurant so that we could see the difference we had made there every time we walked past it. Now that we’ve put a few group efforts into the spot, he’s begun to envision a Pacific Catch “under the sea” theme for that chunk of the park - complete with leafy seaweed-like bushes and coral-colored flowers. A few more trips and we’ll have that new trail running from the end of the dog-run, practically straight up onto our pup friendly patio… and what better reason for walking your dog than a margarita waiting at the end of the road?

I started working at Pacific Catch 9th Ave. about 5 months ago. I really wanted to find a place with a comfortable yet professional atmosphere, good people to work with, and happy customers. I’m so glad I found it here. The family vibe at Pacific Catch is what intrigues me and it’s real, because customers feel it too. Lot’s of regulars bring in the whole family, and groups of friends share perfectly crispy calamari with thin pieces of fried lemon and spicy sriracha sauce. (MMmmm) There is something to be said about a public establishment that can allow you to feel like you are in a safe space. A place in which you can relax and enjoy the delicious food and truly artistic cocktails; without the feeling that you’ve just walked into an ant colony of mass production like so many chain restaurants.

If you haven’t yet, come in and get a wasabi bowl- because that’s what I have dreams about people ordering, seriously. (Although I can’t stop eating the tacos myself)

Take a load off at the bar, grab a beer or a specialty cocktail. Who doesn’t want to try a bloody Mary with wasabi or a martini with ginger and pomegranate!

Yum.
Your gracious hostess
Anastasia Sara Kaufman

Pacific Catch Volunteer Day at Golden Gate Park 06.05.10

Pacific Catch Volunteer Day at Golden Gate Park 06.05.10:

The weather could not have been lovelier for the morning our Pacific Catch employees spent gardening in Golden Gate Park! Upon our arrival at the clearing bordered by 7th Avenue and Lincoln Blvd, the trees were encircled with weeds and high grass, and the area was overgrown with excess foliage in general. James, our park liaison, had chosen this particular spot for us, just two blocks away from our restaurant, so that we could see the difference we had made there every time we walked past it. Now, it’s been a while since I personally have taken any part in gardening chores, living in the city and all, and somehow I’d forgotten just how much work it can actually take to pull deeply rooted plants away from their home in the soil. We got down to business, clearing away truckloads of weeds, trimming hedges, planting flowers, and even uprooting a large bush and a full grown tree! Thanks to Tom, Katie, Kelly, Sarah, Cassandra, Sean, Adrienne, Holden and Karla for taking part in the festivities and making our first volunteer outing a great success! I don’t think I’ve been quite so dirty since my childhood days in the sandbox, otherwise known as the mudbox in my neck of the woods, but it was well worth the feelings of accomplishment and of giving something back to the enchanting park that contributes so greatly to our beautiful environment every day!

Every day I come to work looking forward to another day of taking care of our fantastic guests. Most of the time, I get to exchange pleasantries with regulars as well as first time guests, but I rarely get to feel like I have been part of a real “moment” with them.

Recently, I spoke with a gentleman on the phone who shared a story that really warmed my heart. Dan Dinenberg and his wife Taline have been coming to Pacific Catch for quite a while and Dan told me how Pacific Catch Chestnut Street is their favorite restaurant. He told me that just a few short weeks ago, his daughter had been born in their home and their midwife had suggested he get lots of miso soup to give his wife strength for during and after labor. Dan said he and Taline thought “where better to get the best miso soup than PC!” So, Dan ran over to our restaurant and got a bunch of our Signature Miso Soup to bring home to his wife who was actively in labor bringing their new baby into this world! Dan says Pacific Catch Miso Soup was a part of getting their beautiful new family off to a great start. In talking with Dan, I could hear the excitement in his voice as he told me his story. I think it is so amazing that Delilah Sage Dinenberg was born with a tiny bit of help from my restaurant, Pacific Catch. Dan and his wife even shared a picture of precious little Delilah.

Working in restaurants, some days are more fun and casual, and some days can be more challenging. Coincidentally, the day that Dan told me this wonderful story happened to be one of the toughest shifts I have ever worked, due to an electrical fire and a total computer system failure at the restaurant during a busy Saturday night shift. But Amidst all the chaos around me, I was able to feel like I was actually sharing a moment with this family by listening to their story. When I hear wonderful news like this it makes those tough days so much easier to get through with a smile.

Congratulations, Dan & Taline! Thank you for sharing your story! Welcome to the world, Baby Delilah!

As a lover of all animals, big and small, it is always a little bit painful for me to inform our guests that they must leave their four-legged friends at the door when entering our restaurant - with the exception of service dogs, of course. The chore of banishing adorable creatures from our establishment reached a new low late last week when I spotted what appeared to be a cat, curled up on a chair cushion across from one of my favorite regular guests in our bar – you’ve got to be kidding me, right? As I approached this miraculous feline who remains calm in a bar full of people, to inform its owner that she was out of her mind, I suddenly realized what I was examining and breathed a sigh of relief - relieved that I hadn’t actually reached out to lovingly pet the softest, most cat looking fur scarf (is that called a stoll?) that I’ve ever seen, while calling it “kitty,” and relieved that I wouldn’t have to debate the possibility of a “service therapy cat” with yet another woman who apparently cannot leave her home without the stress-reducing accompaniment of a small animal.

Needless to say, our lost and found box here on 9th Avenue is filled with so many unusual treasures and umbrellas that I could frequent costume parties during El Nino, without worrying that I’d be seen twice in the same getup! Alright, so that might be the slightest exaggeration, but we seriously do have 9 pairs of sunglasses, at least as many umbrellas, quite possibly your child’s favorite missing toy, and enough highly fashionable items of apparel to coordinate a very mismatched new look for Spring. Truth be told, we’ve seen some highly humorous (and illegal) additions to our lost and found over the years, and as much as I’d love to tell you all about them they are not exactly public blog appropriate, so come in and find me sometime when you feel like a good laugh! …and please give us a call if you’ve lost something at our restaurant recently.
