We have our last Pack PowWow of this school year this Friday, May 18th at 7:30pm at CES.  All Scouts will move up to their next rank in Scouting at this PowWow.

We are encouraging each Cub Scout to collect canned and other nonperishable food from neighbors, family and friends that will be delivered to the local food bank. This is an important food drive that provides food to needy families across southern Anne Arundel County – families who depend on the generosity of their neighbors during tough times.

Using the SFF bags and flyers that your scout receives from his den leader (flyer is also attached to this message so that you can print copies), follow three easy steps to participate:

Step 1. Contact neighbors, family and friends

During the week of April 16, notify your neighbors, friends and family about the Scouting For Food program (stop by, call or e-mail), and explain that you will be collecting food on Saturday, April 21 between 9 and 12 for the A.A. Co. food bank. It is helpful to give them advance notice so that they have time to accumulate their donations.

When you stop by the houses ahead of time, leave an SFF grocery bag with a flyer that explains the program taped to it. (A sample flyer is attached HERE that can be copied).

Step 2. Collect the food

On the morning of April 21 go around the neighborhood and to your family and friends and collect the bags of food (you can collect the canned goods anytime during the week of April 16 if you are not available Saturday morning). Wear your Scout uniform and take a wagon to help carry the food. Each scout has been given a supply of SFF bags, but any bags or boxes can be used.

Step 3. Deliver the food

Once you have collected all of the food, it needs to get to the food bank. There are 3 ways to do this.

Method 1: Drop the food off at the Pack drop-off point no later than 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 21. If unavailable to drop off food on Saturday April 21, please contact Stacey Underwood or Lisa Hogan to make arrangements to drop off during the week of April 16.

Method 2: Deliver it directly to the County Food Bank in Crownsville on April 21, from 9am to 3pm. It’s only a 15-minute drive to the food bank at the old Crownsville Hospital site, across from the county fairground. There should be a sign directing you to their building (directions: Crownsville Road to Marbury Road, through the stop signs, to the large building on the right, pull up to the loading dock). Make sure you let them know the donations are from PACK 731.

Method 3: If you collect the food after April 21, you can drop the collected food at the Crofton public library at any time.

Participating scouts will each receive a Scouting For Food badge. There will be a sign-in sheet at the pack drop-off. If you drop off your donations using Method 2 or 3- please let one of us know so that we can ensure you receive your badge.

There is still time to Register for Camp Tomahawk! You may have missed the early bird registration, but regular registration will be open until April 30. Register now before it is too late! Camp Tomahawk will be held from July 16-20 from 8:00 – 4:30 at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds in Crownsville, MD.

All registration will be completed online at http://www.baltimorebsa.org/thecapitol/camptomahawk. You can pay online by debit, credit card or check EFT.

The medical form to be completed for each person – Scouts and adults – is attached here.

**Note: Youth Aides will have a separate application process. Information was sent in a separate email to Scoutmasters.**

All medical forms (and payments if you choose to offline) should be dropped off at Kim Giesbrecht‘s house – 2715 Verdis Lane, in Chapman Farms. The only information that needs to be dropped off is a completed medical form – for each person – including parents, and payment if you haven’t paid online. There are no other forms or photos required this year. We also do not require a photocopy of your insurance card.

Regular registration is from now – April 30. All Scouts who register, pay, and drop off their forms between now and April 30 will pay $170 with an all week volunteer and $210 with a 1-4 day volunteer.

Late Registration is from May 1 – May 31. All Scouts who register, pay, and drop off their forms between May 1 and May 31 will pay $250.

Registration for Camp Tomahawk ends on May 31. There will be no exceptions to this deadline. All Scouts, all week volunteers and all week Tag-A-Longs will receive 2 shirts this year upon registration.

Adult volunteers are required to make Camp Tomahawk a rewarding and fun experience for the Scouts. Please consider being an all week volunteer for our Scouts during this exciting week! All week volunteers receive a discount for their Scouts at registration and can take one Tag-A-Long for the entire week with no charge. (Additional Tag-A-Longs are $25 per day, max $100.) Please remember that every Scout must have at least 1 adult volunteer for 1 day.

All week volunteers must complete Youth Protection Training. This training can be completed online at www.myscouting.org and only takes about 45 minutes.

Wear work clothes (Class Bs would be great!), hats and gloves. Bring rakes, shovels, a tarp if you have one (to haul leaves to the woods), gasoline-powered leaf blowers, or any other similar lawn & garden care tools that you think might be useful.

We have specific instructions for our area of focus at the Prince of Peace Clean up on March 24th: The first priority for the Scouts is for us to rake the FH leaves from the sidewalk out into the street and then clean up all the leaves in the (Ardsley Place) street. The street clean-up should start along the side (back end) of our building where our neighbor’s property parallel to Crofton Parkway ends and continue all the way around the circle to the neighbor on the other side of Ardsley Place. The leaves can be dragged to the woods – PoP have tarps that can be used (see Ron Fries on 24 March), but if a scout or two has a tarp also, that would be helpful. Our second priority would be to work on spreading some of the mulch – in particular, the portion that is on the sidewalk.

Prince of Peace Spring Clean-up
