Bill Atkinson needed a way to print high-quality postcards cost-effectively to turn his idea for a postcard app into reality

The Affordable Mail Alliance (AMA) has called on the Postal Regulatory Commission to dismiss the Postal Service’s rate hike proposal filed on July 6, 2010. AMA’s motion argues that the rate hike violates the cost controls Congress put into law to protect consumers and that the Postal Service needs to cut costs and modernize rather than raise rates an average of ten times the rate of inflation. Given the potential precedent-setting nature of the exigency rate case, Printing Industries of America has joined with the AMA to block this rate increase.

“Allowing the Postal Service to raise prices above the Consumer Price Index in this case would nullify the single most important safeguard for mailers and the public in the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 (PAEA),” AMA argues in its motion. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), an author of the 2006 law, has already said the proposed increases do not qualify for an exception under the standards established by Congress.

CtrlPublishing, a leading developer of Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy plug-ins as well as advanced workflow solutions, today released its utility CtrlLayers 1.1 for InDesign CS5.

Managing InDesign Layers

CtrlLayers is a plug-in for InDesign users who require an easy solution for extending functionality when working with layers. Art directors and graphic designers can, for example, at an early stage in a project export a layer to a new document allowing copywriters and translators the chance to start their work. At a later stage, they can easily import that layer without worrying about how it will effect the overall layout. This comes in quite handy when you are dealing with different languages or even personalized versions of a document.
With the release of CtrlLayers 1.1 CtrlPublishing also introduces a Scripting API Reference guide for users that want to further enhance CtrlLayers with scripts for automation.

SDC Reprographics Ltd, a digital printing firm based in Sutton, Surrey, has invested in a Xerox DocuColor™ 7002 digital printer and Duplo Digital System 445 booklet maker, both from Fujifilm. This investment, the second with Fujifilm in the last 12 months (after the installation of a Fujifilm Acuity Advance HD2545 in January 2010), will allow SDC Print to offer its customers a larger variety of small format options, including A5, A4 and A3 booklets, leaflets and flyers, in shorter turnaround times.
