PACKERTALK

The 49ers put an end to the Packers season again BUT, this time it was just a case of the healthier team winning!

2014-01-06T20:26:00.003-06:00

The end is always the worst but as we say goodbye to another Packer season it does not hurt as bad this time.

This team overcame so much all season but in this playoff battle they were just outplayed by a healthier, better, team. Still, We almost won, should have won, but we did not win and that is the bottom line.

It is funny how Packer nation was so concerned about Mason Crosby when the season began but he is just fine. With multiple injuries during this game on top of a season with countless injuries it just became too much to overcome. The injuries are a reason but not an excuse.

The overall talent needs to improve, players and coaches!

We have a great QB, RB, and WRs but need improvement everywhere else!

The past two seasons we lost after earning a first round bye and being favored to win. I am disappointed by the many Packer fans who didn't think we had a chance today but maybe now everyone understands how good the Packers can be!

After doing better today the Defense still failed in the end and needs a big upgrade and it starts with a new coach to lead them. The Head Coach, Mike McCarthy, is still solid but needs help from a great Defensive mind.

In the end however, failing THREE YEARS IN A ROW in the first post-season game is UNACCEPTABLE and I hope General Manager Ted Thompson gets right on this and starts making changes right away so we all have some hope for next season!

As much as I like MM and TT, one more season ending this soon could mean the end for these two.

THIS IS THE FINAL INSTALLMENT OF PACKERTALK!!!

It will not be back next season but the Pack will be Back and you can find my comments on Facebook and/or other social media sites. Thanks to all of you who have read this over the years!

Always remember "The Journey is the Reward"

The 49ers are coming to Green Bay...It's our time!

2014-01-01T14:44:00.001-06:00

It's been almost a year now since being embarrassed in the playoffs in San Francisco but the 49ers come to Green Bay this time. The 49ers whipped the Packers 45-31 in the playoffs and also beat the Packers in each of the past two regular season opening games...but...

Things are much different now and this Packer team has been through so much just to make the playoffs that I don't think they will blow this opportunity.

Beating the 49ers is a tall task but with a healthy Aaron Rodgers and a healthy Randall Cobb the Packers are a good team so no more looking back, we are here!

The 49ers were the better team when the season started and throughout the season but who is the better team now?

Coaching: Both Mike McCarthy and Jim Harbaugh are 50 years old. Mike McCarthy is a Super Bowl champion head coach while Jim Harbaugh lost in his Super Bowl opportunity last season vs. Baltimore... ADVANTAGE PACKERS

Special Teams: The 49ers return game is slightly better in most of these areas...ADVANTAGE 49ERS

Secondary: The Packers are young but getting more experience every week but the 49ers secondary is better...ADVANTAGE 49ers

Linebackers: The Packers have key injuries but still have some good linebackers like A.J. Hawk but the 49ers have Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman and much more...ADVANTAGE 49ers

Defensive Line: The Packers are big but the 49ers are very strong. The biggest key to this game is that the Packers OL is able to keep San Francisco DL from taking over the game...ADVANTAGE 49ers

Offensive Line: The Packers now have the best five guys out there and playing well and have a solid running game. They must play well and protect Aaron Rodgers if the Packers are to win this game. Still, the 49ers have more talent at this position as well...ADVANTAGE 49ers

Wide Receivers: Not only do the Packers have four OUTSTANDING ones but the 49ers have only Michael Crabtree and Tight End Vernon Davis to count on...HUGE ADVANTAGE Packers

Running Backs: Eddie Lacy/James Starks vs. Frank Gore etc...EVEN

Quarterbacks: Aaron Rodgers vs. Colin Kaepernick ADVANTAGE Packers

HOME TEAM: Green Bay...Advantage Packers

OVERALL: It looks like the 49ers should win but I really think it is the Packers turn. Green Bay can outscore San Francisco if they stay away from big mistakes.

I hope all Packer fans really enjoy this game and appreciate what the team has been through and accomplished this season.

IF the Packer Offensive Line can play well enough and the Packers don't commit any turnovers in this game (or at least win the turnover battle) I think Aaron Rodgers will lead the Packers to a victory we will all remember for a long time: Packers 38 49ers 31

Like I always say: "The Journey is the Reward" and this Journey has been so much fun that I can't stand the idea of seeing it all end!

It's Bear Week!

2013-12-26T18:58:00.001-06:00

Aaron Rodgers is back and we are going to make the playoffs, hey yeah, hey yeah, the leader is back.

The Leader of the Pack!!!

As long as the Packers hold Chicago to 30 or less, the division title remains in Green Bay!

Eddie Lacy will run all over the Bears

My best guess is Packers 41 Bears 30 but any score will do. Just Win Pack!

What do you think will happen on Sunday?

You know Lacy and Nelson and Jones and Starks,
Hawk and Matthews and Shields and Hyde,
But do you recall?
The most famous Packer of all?

Aaron Rodgers the strong armed Quarterback
Had a very strong arm
And if you ever saw him play
You would even see him run

And all of the other Packers
Used to love to play with him.
They never thought poor Aaron
would ever miss a football game.

Then one awful Monday night,
The Bears came to fight
Aaron with your arm so strong,
We will slam you on the tundra tonight?

Then Aaron's collarbone was broken
And the Bears shouted out with glee
Chicago wins the NFC North this year
and we will go down in history

Aaron Rodgers the strong armed Quarterback
Had to miss the several games
And the Packers tried their best
but the team was just not the same.

And all of the other Packers
Used to love to play with him
They sure missed poor Aaron
when they played the games with Matt Flynn.

Then one day after Christmas,
Coach McCarthy came to say:
Aaron with your Collarbone almost healed
won't you guide this team on the field?

Then how the Packers loved him
As they shouted out with glee
We're gonna go to Chicago and take back the North of the NFC
Aaron Rodgers the strong armed Quarterback you'll go down in history!!!

Tough loss to the Steelers but the football Gods are with the Packers!

The Packers can still make the playoffs after all that has happened.

Win 2 more and we are in

2013-12-22T00:15:00.002-06:00

It might not be easy but I think the Packers will be able to beat Pittsburgh and set up a showdown with the Bears for the NFC North Championship!

Thank You Baltimore

2013-12-17T06:05:00.001-06:00

The Ravens win over the Lions means that the Packers simply need to win the final two games to become NFC North Champions AGAIN and move forward to the playoffs!

First Half Bad but in the second half the Defense played well, Eddie Lacy was a beast and SuperMattFlynn put on his cape!

2013-12-15T20:03:00.001-06:00

Packers 37 Cowboys 36 after being down by 23 points (26-3) at Halftime!

The biggest comeback in the history of the GREEN BAY PACKERS!!!

SuperMattFlynn and the Green Bay Packers at the Dallas Cowboys

2013-12-15T13:30:00.001-06:00

After a terrible November Our Green Bay Packers had a great come from behind victory vs Atlanta and now go to Dallas where the Packers seem to never win.

This Cowboys Defense is last in the NFL and the Packers Defense showed improvement this week so if Matt Flynn can be SuperMatt today, Green Bay can win and keep this season alive!

This is still our Packers!

2013-12-08T09:52:00.003-06:00

Okay Packer Nation, time to step it up and support the team like never before:

Yes, the coach and GM have made some mistakes this season.
Yes, the Aaron Rodgers injury takes away our best player for the 6th game in a row.
Yes, our team went winless in November.
Yes, the Packers have lost control of their playoff destiny.
Yes, Aaron Rodgers is OUT for yet another game.

BUT, with four wins in December combined with two Lions losses the Packers can still win the NFC North and host a first round playoff game.

Yes, the Defense has been awful and winning without Rodgers has NOT happened yet...
BUT, today at home in the cold vs Atlanta, who is having an even worse season than Green Bay in every way, I think the chances of winning are good...
AND, with Aaron Rodgers for the final 3 games the chances of winning are great...
SO, the way I see it if the Lions lose two games in December our Packers are in!

Once you make it into the playoffs anything can happen, including Superbowl 48 so...

Go Eagles and Go Pack Go !

I think that Matt Flynn will have a good game today and don't forget about the two big Offensive stars who are playing so well JORDY NELSON and EDDIE LACY!!

2013-12-02T20:46:00.002-06:00

I can't explain what happened in Detroit but it is only one loss so lets just move forward.

The Packers only trail the Bears by a half game and finish the season in Chicago so no concern there. The concern is the Lions who now lead the Packers by 1.5 games with 4 games remaining.

Detroit still has to play the Eagles, Ravens, Giants, and Vikings and while the former three are playoff contenders, the Vikings play Detroit at the Metrodome, a game that could potentially be the last NFL game played at the Metrodome. One can imagine the Vikings wanting that one pretty bad and with the win over the Bears and tie with the Pack, a victory could show that they are still respectable in the division.

It is very possible that Detroit will finish at 9-7 or worse so the challenge to the Packers is to win the final four games. vs Atlanta, at Dallas, vs Pittsburgh, and at Chicago, no matter who plays Quarterback. Obviously if Aaron Rodgers can go chances are good at winning all 4.

Once in the playoffs, anything can happen!!!

Looking for some Matt Flynn magic to get end this terrible November and get back to the top of the NFC North!

2013-11-27T22:37:00.000-06:00

The great thing about a TIE GAME is that the Packers will not finish in a TIE for the NFC North Division title now. No need to worry about Tiebreakers as the season winds down.

Beating the Lions on Thanksgiving Day will get the PACK BACK ON TOP of the NFC North where they belong. Thankfully Matt Flynn is now the #2 Quarterback and his best game as a Packer was vs Detroit.

It would be nice if the Defense would show up to feast on the Lions as well.

It is crazy how big this game is:

WINNING = First Place in the NFC North
TIE = Still having a chance in the NFC North
LOSS = Becoming a Long Shot at winning the NFC North and almost no shot at a Wildcard.

The Packers really MUST WIN this game!

Keep the Vikings down Packers and get back to winning!

2013-11-23T18:55:00.000-06:00

Does anyone remember what things were like around this time in 2010?

2013-11-19T22:31:00.004-06:00

Things were looking bad, Rodgers had to miss a game. True Packer fans kept faith in Mike and Ted and what happened? The Packers got hot to make the playoffs, survived a close game at Philadelphia, played their best game ever at Atlanta, and then beat the Bears in the NFC Championship before going on to beat Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLV. Many players were on IR, including Jermichael Finley.

It would appear to me that as some fans and the media are losing faith in this team and think the season is slipping away, the Packers are actually right where they want to be. I think we will now start to see improvement every week and an incredible lift when Rodgers gets back on the field and another big lift when Randall Cobb gets back and both of these guys will be well rested!

Remember Packer Nation: Look at the bright side in every situation, it makes life and sports much more fun!

Two losses in a row after starting QB goes down, stay calm fans, PACKER ON!!!

2013-11-15T22:13:00.001-06:00

I think that Scott Tolzien is ready to go to New York and lead the Packers to a GIANT victory.

Matt Flynn is backing him up but hopefully will not be needed. I feel like the Defense and Special Teams will play much better this week and Green Bay will be victorious.

I love the Brewers, Bucks, and Badgers but not in the same way I love the Packers. I will always watch every down of every Packer game (often twice) no matter how good or bad the team is doing. Yes even if they were winless I would still be watching and cheering them on!

LIFE IS SHORT, ENJOY THE JOURNEY.....Remember to Keep Calm and Packer On!

Next Man Up? Well maybe not, Aaron Rodgers can't be replaced but the game vs Philadelphia can still be won by the Packers!

2013-11-09T23:35:00.000-06:00

Time and time again over the past 4 seasons a Packer gets injured and it's "next man up" as the Packer train keeps rolling on to more victories. This time the injury was to Aaron Rodgers and the Packer train WAS derailed on Monday night and the Bears took advantage beating the Rodgers-less Packers and putting the NFC North into a three way tie including the Lions.

Now that the Packers have had time to adjust to life without Aaron, the true test is vs. Philadelphia in Week 10. The Packers must show the ability to move on without their best player and leader. Aaron Rodgers is helping out Seneca all he can and is now like another member of the coaching staff. This Packer train will play differently but the plan is to stay on track until Aaron can get back into the game sometime in December.

The "easy" November schedule continues vs PH, at NY, vs MN, and at DT. It looks a lot tougher now when you subtract the leagues best Quarterback and the "next man up" is simply an average Quarterback. I think the Packers can still win a game or two or even three this month behind Seneca Wallace and Scott Tolzein but a loss at Detroit on Thanksgiving day combined with a Week 10 win by Detroit at Chicago means that the Lions will be in the lead and in control of the NFC North.

Before this injury it was looking like Green bay might run the table to a 14-2 record and the top seed in the NFC meaning they would be just two Lambeau victories away from Superbowl 48 but we must adjust to this new reality and do it the hard way like we did in the 2010 season. How about two wins with Seneca Wallace at the helm? This would put the Packers at 7-5 and then if Aaron can play in the final four games and win three of them the Packers finish at 10-6.

This would be just like 2010. The team is healthier at playoff time and gets hot. Just like the 2010 season this Packer team could win three road games and advance to the Super Bowl where they win again and bring that Lombardi trophy back home where it belongs once again, in Green Bay!

This might sound like a dream but remember. The Packer Defense has Clay Matthews back now and we still have two superstars on Offense: Jordy Nelson and Eddie Lacy!

A Bad Night in Lambeau

2013-11-04T23:57:00.001-06:00

Dont panic Packer fans, if Aaron Rodgers is back in December along with Cobb and Finley, the Packers can still win the division and win in the playoffs and yes, the Defense needs Clay Matthews and many others to get healthy and get better and FAST!

Seneca Wallace should not be judged until after Sunday vs Philadelphia as he will have had an opportunity to get reps all week and be ready to win!

I do think Matt Flynn should be brought in to compete with Seneca for the job. With Eddie Lacy running for over 100 yards every week, we will always have a chance!

It's Bear Week

2013-10-30T21:44:00.004-05:00

Enjoy knowing all week long that another W is coming on Monday night!

The Green Bay Packers are truly in mid-season form (5-2) LEADERS OF THE NFC NORTH!!!

2013-10-27T23:58:00.001-05:00

Packers 44 Vikings 31!

The Packers scored 5 TD's 3 FG's and never punted even one time!

Rodgers-Nelson is near perfection and all these back-up WR's and TE's are doing exactly what is needed.

The return game scored one of the Touchdowns. The running game with Eddie Lacy and James Starks was spectacular as well.

It looks like Ted Thompson is right again. Draft and develop your own players. As they said on the game broadcast, 50 of 53 players on the roster have never played for anyone besides the Packers!

The Packers continue to chomp up the NFC North, up next is DA BEARS!

The Packers are an absolute joy to watch!!!

Breaking News!

It's Viking Week!

2013-10-25T05:43:00.001-05:00

These next two weeks the Packers will take of business in the NFC North with wins over the Vikings and Bears.

The Packers should be able to handle the Vikings on Sunday night which will be the final trip to the Metro dome. That stadium used to be a house of horrors for the Packers but now is just an old stadium with a bad team.

Minnesota is still a rival but the short-handed Packers should still have little trouble advancing to 5-2 for the season!

Packers "Stay Calm and Carry On" have no trouble beating the Browns in Lambeau while the Bears and Lions lose!

2013-10-21T05:28:00.001-05:00

Pack On Top again in the NFC North!

Banged up Packers make a statement in Baltimore

2013-10-13T20:57:00.001-05:00

Winning 19-17 is fine by me.
The Packers are now 3-2 and continue to move forward with the "Next Man Up" philosophy!

PACKERTALK: Up Next are the CHAMPION Ravens in BALTIMORE

2013-10-12T09:04:00.001-05:00

The Packers 22-9 win over the Lions was far from my prediction of 50-7 but the Packer Defense was great and gets the credit for this much needed win.

This week is another much needed one. With Clay Matthews and Brad Jones and others people missing on the Packer Defense, the Packer Offense really needs to kick it in gear. I think they will and here is why:

The Packers now have the 5th best running game in the league. If the Ravens game plan to focus on stopping this, Aaron Rodgers will have a great game.

Remember, Peyton Manning did throw 7 Touchdowns against this years version of the Ravens Defense on the opening game of this NFL season. Aaron Rodgers is not currently considered the best Quarterback in the NFL right now and needs to begin to catch up with Peyton Manning and Drew Brees!

If Baltimore decides to slow down the Green Bay passing game, those holes will be there for Eddie Lacy an the others to put up big numbers on the ground again. Aaron will confuse the Ravens all day.

I will guess Packers 40 Ravens 27!

Agree or Disagree?

Week 5: Feasting on the Lions should be the right fuel to get this Packer train moving

2013-10-05T01:37:00.000-05:00

I don't think that the Lions stand much of a chance to come to Green Bay win. I am not concerned at all. Detroit has always been the just what the doctor ordered to make everything feel all good again. Even though Reggie Bush makes the Lions a real threat The Packers are coming off a bye and truly NEED this game.

Green Bay will win by at least 12 points and if the Packers get up early and these undisciplined Lions lose there cool again we could see...

Packers 50 Lions 7!

Now lets see what professional sports writer Adam Kriesel (firststopfantasy.com) has to say:

Packers Look to Extend Home Winning Streak Against Lions

The Detroit Lions have dreaded their annual trip to Lambeau Field ever since 1991, the last time they tasted victory in the state of Wisconsin. The Packers’ winning streak currently sits at 22 games over Detroit, including one playoff victory. It is the longest streak over one opponent at home in NFL history. Sunday, however, could be the best chance Detroit has to stop the skid in recent years.
Coming off a big win against another NFC North team, the Bears, Detroit is filled with confidence and has redemption on their mind. While coaches and players on both sides have downplayed the streak all week, everyone involved knows how badly Detroit wants to lift the dark cloud that has been hovering over them for the past 21 years.
While Detroit comes to town with momentum, Green Bay also has a few things going for them as well. Head Coach Mike McCarthy is 6-1 in games following a bye week during his time in Green Bay, and the Packers could be the healthiest they have been all season. Returning to practice this week were safety Morgan Burnett, who did not suit up in the team’s first three games, along with running back Eddie Lacy and tight end Jermichael Finley, both of whom are coming off of concussions.
Although Lacy is tabbed as the team’s top back, he is the only one of the team’s top three backfield options yet to have a 100-yard game. James Starks racked up 132 yards in Week 2 against Washington, while fellow rookie Jonathan Franklin put up 103 the following week in Cincinnati. Both Starks and Franklin suffered injuries against the Bengals, though Franklin later returned to finish the game. Starks has yet to return to practice and is unlikely to be activated Sunday, something Packer fans have grown accustomed to. With that, Green Bay is likely to primarily feature rookies in the backfield for the first time this season. Led by interior linemen Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley, with rookie fifth-overall pick Ezekiel Ansah alongside, Detroit boasts one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL. Handing off to rookies could prove challenging, who will try to break through the toughest front four either of them have ever seen.
An overlooked factor in the run game could be the offensive line shift the Packers made in the offseason. With guard T.J. Lang now on the right side, he will face Suh on nearly every snap, something he has never done in previous meetings.
Burnett’s return is timely for the Green Bay secondary, who is set to face perhaps the most lethal passing attack they have seen yet this year. Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson combine for one of the best passing duos in the league. Stafford is averaging 315 passing yards per game with seven touchdowns, with four of them going to Johnson. Having Burnett quarterbacking the secondary could be key in preventing Johnson the chance to break loose.
While Detroit may have many advantages on paper, Green Bay is still the favorite in this game. They have lost at home only once since the 2010 season, when they suffered an overtime defeat to Miami in Week 6. Since then, they have rattled off 22 straight regular season victories inside Lambeau Field.
Sunday’s match-up has the potential to come down to the wire, something Detroit has seen numerous times during their Lambeau skid. They have fallen short each time, and Sunday will give them yet another chance to prove that they are in fact capable of winning in Wisconsin. Green Bay isn’t ready to let that happen, so this match-up should provide extra intensity between two teams battling for NFC North supremacy.

So, what do you think?

Packers win big or a tight game that could go either way?
