G at Can I Help You Sir wrote a post about working out recently which has spurred me to write this one. It’s been in my head for a while but now it’s time to get it out.

I’ve been working out, for a couple of months now, weights every other day, at home.

I’ve never exercised, ever, in more than 40 years. I’ve never had the desire or inclination. Even at school, anything sporty was just boring, I hated netball, hockey, gymnastics etc and cross country running meant a nice walk and a sly smoke. Exercise just wasn’t on the agenda and why would it be?

Several months ago my wife started running, I eventually joined in but never really caught the bug in the same way she did. Running isn’t really for me but while I was running I would think about the weights we had at home. The ones we’d used for a short while over a year ago. The ones I’d never enjoyed using but bizarrely now seemed to be calling out to me while I was running (struggling) round the park at 6am.

My body had woken up and suddenly weight lifting was something I needed to do. Not to get fit although that should have been the obvious reason, after all I’m not getting any younger and I smoked for over 20 years so I would certainly benefit from being fitter but actually that’s just a side effect.

The real reason is simple, I want to be bigger. I want to have muscles. I want to flex my muscles. I want to feel like my shoulders are broad and my legs are solid. I want to be strong. I need to be bigger.

I’ve spent a lot of my life making myself smaller, blending into the background so I don’t get noticed but I’m not doing that anymore. Now I’m claiming my space and pushing against the physical boundaries of my own body. It feels like my body is crying out for this change but I know that it’s fueled by what has and is going on in my head. It’s a physical side effect of improved self awareness.

The idea of being more physically powerful is very appealing, it adds “muscle” to the butch/masculine aura that I try to exude and I’m pretty sure my wife is enjoying my improving body. But this isn’t about anyone except me, I’m doing this just for me, moulding the body I already have into a more acceptable form. A form I can live with and accept, maybe even enjoy and be proud of instead of pretending it doesn’t actually belong to me.

Last week I added in squats, sit ups and press ups on the non weight days (don’t ask how many I can do because I’ve only just started!). This has caused a certain amount of hilarity due to my complete lack of body awareness (if you ignore your body for long enough it’s hard to get back in touch with it) but I’m getting better. And I just love it. I’m fascinated by the changes in my body, I can see definition where once there was loose flesh. I can feel my muscles growing, I’m aware of them as part of me and it feels good. It feels very good.

Review - Hey Diddle Diddle

Marie sent me a copy of her audio book Hey Diddle Diddle recently. You may have heard of Marie or seen her cartoons, if not you should check out her website waywardpencils. With Hey Diddle Diddle Marie has created an audio cartoon but with heaps of extra zing.

I have to admit I was very curious and not really sure what to expect. Not only had I never listened to an audio book before but I’d also never come across a nursery rhyme turned into a lesbian tale. I’m glad to say once I started to listen I soon realized it’s a great idea which Marie has turned into a great reality.

I don’t want to give too much of the story away but remind yourself of the nursery rhyme and you’ll get a rough outline. After that anything is possible in this story and there are also a few surprises. The interesting and unusual characters include a lactose intolerant cow, a lesbian handywoman, a fiddle playing cat and a love sick spoon. There are also some great minor characters such as the fireflies and the toast pieces.

The story is read beautifully by Marie herself and this charming tale lends itself so well to being heard. The fabulous imagery she has created rolls easily off her tongue and soothes the ears. Marie has very skillfully taken the nursery rhyme and created a witty tale full of absolutely lovely descriptions of the characters and their surroundings. And yes there are some amusing and very entertaining “naughty” bits.

If you have the chance to listen to “Hey Diddle Diddle” you should, I enjoyed it so much I’ve already listened to it twice.

About a year ago my wife bought some lovely rope, a long length of silky black bondage rope. I was very happy to have the opportunity to review the film Champion sent by Babeland as I’d seen a lot of good reviews of it on the internet. Champion is from Pink and White productions, directed by Shine Louise Houston. Made in 2008 it features Syd Blakovich, Madison Young, Jiz Lee, Dylan Ryan, all very sexy on screen.

The story centres around Jessie Eaton (Syd Blakovich) a fighter who is having problems letting go of Cathy, her ex girlfriend (Jiz Lee). Jessie’s career is on the up when Bobby Malone (Javier) starts to blackmail her into throwing a fight. Her opponent in the fight is Violet Vahn (Dallas) who Jessie finds herself very attracted to.

You might find this hard to believe but I’m a bit of a porn virgin, I have seen porn but watching it is not a regular occurrence maybe because I haven’t really had access to good lesbian porn. So when Champion arrived we made time to settle down and watch it when we wouldn’t be disturbed. I wasn’t disappointed; Champion is packed with hot sex. Review - Mr Bendy

Thanks for all your comments on my last post, it was very encouraging and much appreciated while I was waiting for a reaction from my mother. I’ve been meaning to post an update since then but you know how times runs away sometimes so my apologies and here is the update.

I waited from Saturday lunchtime until Tuesday and had no response so I re-sent the email with a note asking if she’d received the first one. Her reply was a very pleasant surprise, she said she hadn’t received the first email but that whatever my name was she still loved me and she liked my new name. That was a huge relief and amazingly positive.

I (and my lovely wife) know for a fact she received the first email and I’m certain there were several conversations with family, friends and possibly even strangers on the street before she had been told enough times it was ok. But regardless of who or how many people told her to accept it the main thing is she listened. I was very surprised and felt empowered to move forward. I know it shouldn’t matter what she thinks but it does, it wouldn’t change anything but it makes it easier.

I’m gradually telling other people about my name change and have had some very positive responses. It’s an interesting process. I emailed everyone in my office last week, since then I’ve had a mixture of my old name and new name which is quite funny at times. But I know everyone is trying and I’m very happy about that. I emailed my mother today to tell her I was changing my name, so far I haven’t had a reply although to be fair I don’t know that she’s read the email yet. I’d like her to reply with “Wow that’s a great idea and a great name. Well done” but that is fantasy, a nice one but still a fantasy. I strongly suspect at some point there will be tears and some recrimination, as well as a disbelieving “but that’s a boy’s name!” The worst reaction would be her saying something along the lines of “Your father wouldn’t like it” and I’m praying really hard she doesn’t hit me with that one because it would be a very low blow.

My dad died a year and a half ago, just a few months before I started my journey of masculine discovery. At times I’ve felt his presence very strongly and do not believe he would be anything except understanding. I dreamt about him a little over a week ago and although I knew in the dream he was dead it was just so wonderful to see him. He had that sparkle in his eyes that I remember so well and miss so much, full of love and humour with just the right amount of impish wickedness. One day I’ll write more about him but right now all I want to say is that the dream felt like a positive sign. I don’t care what anyone else says but I do want my close family to accept and embrace my new name. My mother is the last close family member I’ve told. The kids were all fabulous, really cool about it which I knew they would be because they are truly amazing kids. My sister and brother were a bit surprised but very supportive. I told them before my mother because I wanted to forewarn them that there may be some fallout heading their way.

So now I’m waiting and hoping that my mother will surprise me with a positive response and while I’m waiting I’m thinking about the implications of changing my name. I am convinced it’s the right thing to do, for me, not anyone else but still there is a voice in my head telling me it’s stupid. “You’re attention seeking” “Be quiet because you’re shy”. I thought that voice had been banished but I guess it’s having a final try to stop me exposing my real self to the rest of the world. I’ve made massive progress in the past year but it’s all been behind the scenes, subtle changes that could easily go unnoticed by those who see me regularly in real life. If anyone has noticed that I pack they haven’t said anything and yet my cock is an integral part of me now. Wearing a compression vest everyday makes me feel so much more confident but I’d be surprised if it had occurred to anyone else as a possibility.

But taking a new name and informing everyone of that name is not something that is subtle. It will draw attention to me and to my masculinity. It’s been a little over a year since I started this blog with the words “It’s been a week of firsts and new discoveries”. Substitute “week” for “year” and that sentence is still so true. I’ve learnt more about who I am in the last year than in the whole forty years before that and I’ve had a great deal of fun in the process. I am so happy to be where I am now.

But so much has changed inside that I feel like a different person. And particularly in the past few weeks I’ve felt another subtle shift in myself, a feeling I’d describe simply as feeling bigger. I joked to my lovely wife that I thought my balls had dropped but actually there’s just a solid core of self confidence that I’ve never felt before. Even on down days I can feel it, curled tightly in my gut, solid and so very reassuring.

This core of self confidence comes from the past year’s journey of discovery, everything that has happened has helped towards it. But the overriding factor is acceptance of who I am and who I could be. I’m not afraid of what’s inside me anymore, not afraid to explore the hidden depths because nothing that is me can hurt me unless I deny its existence. And I’m not prepared to do that anymore. For the first time in my life I can look in a mirror and like what I see. Even be proud of what I see.

We had a conversation a couple of weeks ago about where this journey would take me and I said “I’ll end up where I want to be”
My lovely wife responded “Where’s that?”
My answer was “I don’t know yet but I am sure I’ll get there.”

And it’s true, I don’t know where I’m heading or what the end result will be. But I am completely certain that whatever happens it will be what I want, because I am in control of my future now.

And I can understand why it’s called Boss Lady. This vibrator from Babeland and made by Fun Factory is imposing, solid and well my first thought on opening it was wow! It is described as being “hefty” and yes it is as well as being soft and beautifully shaped. As soon as I saw it I felt confident it would perform well and I wasn’t disappointed.

The Boss Lady I received is black which I’m very happy with. It has a clever booster button on the bottom, press it and it boosts the vibrations. The other specs are size 8-3/4” x 1-3/5”, made from silicone, batteries are 4 AA. It’s also splash friendly and shower friendly and although I’ve yet to test that I’m certain it will be and I look forward to proving it.

The vibrations are very good with decent variations of speed and rhythm. The booster button gives you an extra element of control and the noise level is low. It’s curved in the right place with a shaped head and feels great to touch. Two very minor criticisms, the boost button is hard to hold down, and at full throttle the end with the controls are vibrates so much it’s a little difficult to operate.

This is not your average vibrator, it looks and feels like it’s built to last. It does a good job - and going solo or with a partner this vibrator from Babeland would a welcome addition to any toy box. In my opinion this is a first rate toy and I’d recommend it to anyone. I know I’ll be happily reaching for it for a long time.

The Fusion Duality , made by Evolved and available from Babeland is a double headed vibrator. The two heads vibrate independently from each other, two for the price of one thus giving it 16 possible vibration patterns, sounds great so far. The two ends are also shaped differently, one rather pointy end for g-spot stimulation and the other with some interesting ridges. The idea is it can be used with a partner, the practice isn’t quite so straight forward.

The Fusion Duality comes in a lovely metal tin, packaged extremely well and looks the business. Relatively hefty and solid it’s made from ABS plastic so it’s phthalate free and washable with soap and water. It takes 4 AA batteries and is a total of 10-1/2 inches from tip to tip. It is quiet and the vibrations are really good but I just didn’t find it as exciting as I hoped. Maybe it’s because it’s hard plastic and I’m really very fond of silicone toys with a bit of flexibility. It is very rigid and while 16 different vibration combinations sounds great getting the combination right for both of you isn’t easy.

As a vibrator it is fine, no complaints, it’s attractive and has easy controls. It is waterproof so it’s brilliant for some shower fun but it doesn’t quite ‘do what it says on the tin’ at least not for both of you at the same time. I like the Fusion Duality but certainly not as much as I’d hoped.

Review - Liv

Babeland sent me the Liv vibrator by Lelo several weeks ago and it has been making regular, very successful appearances in the bedroom ever since. It arrived beautifully packaged complete with satin storage pouch and I just knew it was going to be a quality toy. If I had to choose one word to describe the Liv it would be stylish.

It’s made from silicone (so no silicone lube), is blue and white with a stainless steel band separating the “playing” end from the “control” end. The Liv is 4” x 3/4", not large but a good size and it has a lovely curve which is good for clitoral stimulation as well as insertion. The controls are simple, plus/minus for speed and up/down to change settings, they also light up so they are very easy to see.

It’s a rechargeable vibrator so the first thing to do is plug it in and wait, patiently, for it to charge. Once charged the Liv shows a steady light and will also prompt you to re-charge when the battery is running low with a red light. Great idea! The charger plugs in to the tip of the white end and the hole is covered by a neat tab once it’s charged. If you’re in the UK you will need an adaptor because it’s a two pin plug. Once charged it does last for a good while before needing a recharge and I really like the idea of no batteries.

There are five different vibration programs, continuous, 3 interval pulsations and a wave pulsation as well as the various speeds. None of the settings give out really intense vibrations but they are all very good and certainly stimulating in all the right ways. The Liv is also really quiet, which as ever is an absolute must for any vibrator in our house, loud, rattles are just too distracting.

I love this vibrator because it is so well designed, it looks good and feels good to both control and receive. It is certainly a welcome addition to my toy box and will continue to make regular trips out of the box and into the action.

It’s been a while since I’ve written a post, in fact it’s been a while since I’ve written anything that’s not work related. I have wanted to write both for here and butchfemmebdsm but I simply haven’t had the time, blogging has had to take lowest priority unfortunately. The past couple of months I have been pretty snowed under with work, but I can now see light at the end of the tunnel and I’m hoping to be able to post more frequently on both blogs. I feel a bit rusty but thought I’d try to get back in the swing with a post that has been simmering at the back of my mind for some time now.

I’ve been thinking about a memory from childhood and its relationship to where I am now with regards to BDSM, power and control. I have a vivid memory of watching a film called Ryan’s Daughter probably when I was in my early teens. I don’t recall very much of the film but I know from looking it up that it was set in Ireland in 1916 and told the story of an Irish girl who had an affair with a British officer. The storyline is actually not really important as far as this post goes, but what is important is the reaction my child self had to one particular scene in the film.

The villagers find out about Rosy’s (Ryan’s Daughter) affair with the British officer and she is accused of passing information to the army (it’s actually her father who is the informant, but that’s not relevant either). By way of revenge an angry mob get hold of Rosy, cut her hair off, strip her naked and throw stones at her. My memory of most of the film is very vague and even my memory of this particular scene is hazy, but what I do remember is my reaction to it as I watched it. I was horrified. Not by the hair cutting, (in fact I can’t even remember that happening) and not by the stone throwing, but by Rosy’s nakedness in front of the baying crowd. This scene affected me so much that it has stayed in my memory for all these years, popping up every now and then and always bringing back a hint of my original horror.

What I’ve been thinking about is why did it have such a profound effect on me, both as a child and in its remembered state? Nakedness was not part of my childhood, we were very much a ‘cover everything up and don’t talk about it’ family (and in many ways I’m not just talking about nakedness). Most of my childhood holidays were spent in a tent or caravan, and to this day I swear I could easily get dressed and undressed in sleeping bag! Obviously I had seen some partial nakedness on TV etc but this was before cable TV when there were only 3 channels, so my experience was slim. But that said, I can’t see my lack of experience leading to horror at the sight of a naked woman; interest, excitement, wonder yes but horror no.

I know it wasn’t just the nakedness which struck me, there is in my memory a definite link with the “exposure” of Rosy in front of a crowd. Her lack of control and inability to escape are tied firmly to the feelings I had. The cutting of her hair doesn’t figure in my memory at all and the stoning is there but doesn’t bring strong reactions, which considering it was quite violent is surprising. It is definitely the combination of Rosy being naked in front of the crowd which induced the reaction which has stayed with me for all these years. I could put it down to my own discomfort with my body, particularly as I was probably going through puberty at the time. The thought of being naked in front of complete strangers certainly horrifies me now, so at such a tender age I can well imagine that particular scenario producing an intense reaction.

But remembering this scene with new (kinky) eyes I do wonder what the actual cause of my strong negative feelings was. I enjoy exposing my wife when I’m in control, it often figures strongly in BDSM play and fantasy for me. The power to strip away layers of clothes, the power to completely expose and control that exposure turns me on. I love the fact that I can gaze at will, whenever, however and for as long as I want in an intensely intimate way. This realisation and acceptance of what, due to my upbringing, I would once have considered wrong or dirty is still new to me. I’m exploring these feelings and many others, which is why I’ve been re-considering this particular memory. I strongly suspect that as a child Rosy’s complete lack of control and her nakedness in front of the crowd actually excited me, and I was horrified by my excitement NOT by the scene itself.
