Men’s fashion trends

Spring/Summer 2010/2011

It’s that time of the year again…. it’s getting warm, the sun is shining and we can soon go back to the beach!

For this season our local Auckland boutiques are stocking an amazing selection for men’s spring/summer collections - from local designers to international labels. We also have the option to ‘dress less’ to impress.

Spend some money on yourself – take a shopping trip to down town Auckland, and pick up some of the goodies to make you look more interesting - and more man-candy! Don’t forget to take along your special someone or friend, as their opinion is often one of the best… but, not always, which is why I’m advising what to wear and the ‘must haves’ for the season!

From carrot skinny trousers, to deep scoop tee’s, boat shoes and DIY shorts, you’ll have enough money left over for drinks!

Jeans into shorts
Big this season are jean shorts. Check your jeans collection - instead of spending money on buying new shorts, you can easily cut your old jeans into your own DIY shorts! If you don’t have any jeans to cut off, there are plenty of good alternatives in the stores, light coloured denim shorts are the best!

Scoop neck Tees
They have been around for a while, but for this summer they transform into a deep scoop neck showing a bit of your chest! Wear it with a nice silver pendant and jeans and you can pass from day to night without notice!

Sunnies
Someone told me that Kiwis like to spend lots of money on their sunnies as they wear them all year round… my advice is get into a nice pair from an up coming designer as they always make the most interesting ones, and best of all nobody else will have them!

Boat shoes
They are a good alternative to Converse shoes, and you can wear them with jeans for casual daywear or with chinos and a summer blazer for a more formal look.

Carrot fit trousers
When I first saw them I was thinking ‘not for me’, but after trying them on I really like the fit - so, I had to buy them - and the best part is that every body is complementing me! Be brave and try them out!

Chinos
If you are not into the carrot fit, Chinos are a good alternative for your summer wardrobe, as they will go with everything! Get as many colours as you can as they will be around for a while! (you can always make them into nice summer shorts next season).

Contrast colour shoes
They are loud and they are here to stay! So make your best pick - I personally like the suede dessert coloured shoes, as the colours will fade with the sun to a vintage finish.

Accessories
When it comes to accessories it is always good to have a nice bag that you can put everything in to and just go. Be green and seek out the ethical designs! (recycled canvas or inner-tube materials are hot right now!)
