After just having taught a full German IDC the previous month on Phuket, the April IDC on Koh Lanta was completely taught in French. A completely new challenge. Somehow I managed, with the help of Fabien and Sephora.

It was great fun being in a class with Fabien, he's very switched on and we both share a love and background in music. Common ground was easily found!

It was a challenging IDC, for all involved but we managed very well and along the way we had some fun as well.

Once it was show time for the PADI IE, both Fabien and Sephora were well prepared and had a very successful exam program. Both passed with high scores.

Thanks for joining the April IDC on Koh Lanta, it was my pleasure having you around and I'm looking forward meeting up soon again!

L’IDC avec Camille

C’est la 3ème fois que je viens à Koh Lanta pour plonger et cette fois j’ai décidé de compléter ma formation de plongeur en faisant l’IDC. J’ai donc contacté Ben de Blueplanet et il nous a confié à l’excellent instructeur IDC Camille Lemmens. Je ne connaissais pas vraiment le déroulement du cours avant de commencer, mais je m’imaginais une salle de classe avec une dizaine de personnes suivant un cours avec un instructeur plutôt scolaire. Nous sommes arrivées sur place deux jour avant de commencer l’IDC et après un jour de plongée bien méritée, nous avons fait la connaissance de Camille en arrivant à Blueplanet pour commencer notre cours. J’ai rapidement remarqué que nous n’avions pas affaire à un simple instructeur, mais également à un plongeur passionné et extrêmement expérimenté.

Une des grandes questions était la langue dans laquelle le cours allait se passer, car la personne qui faisait le cours avec moi ne parlait pas très bien anglais. J’avais prévu de jouer le rôle d’interprète, mais à ce moment Camille nous a dit qu’il parlait « un peu » français et qu’il allait essayer de faire quelques parties du cours dans notre langue. On s’est très vite rendus compte qu’il parlait en fait très bien français et il a même adapté l’ensemble du cours pour nous, ce qui en a fait son premier IDC totalement en français ! Il faut préciser que l’on a eu la chance d’avoir un cours privé (on était que 2) ce qui nous permis d’aller en profondeur dans tous les sujets, la barrière de la langue étant maîtrisée. Chapeau bas Camille !

Nous voilà donc dans un des endroits les plus magnifique du monde en train de suivre un cours d’instructeur de plongée sous la houlette d’un des meilleurs courses director qui en plus nous donne un cours privé dans notre langue maternelle !

Les 10 jours qui ont suivis font partie des plus beaux souvenirs que j’ai. Camille a su rendre la formation extrêmement intéressante en traitement le plus rapidement possible les sujets ennuyeux et en consacrant beaucoup de temps sur les aspects essentiels. Surtout, il a su nous faire profiter pleinement de sa grande expérience n’a pas d’ailleurs pas hésité à donner des conseils aux élèves de notre groupe lors de l’examen.

Au-delà du professeur, j’ai eu l’occasion de passer du temps avec Camille en dehors des cours lors de souper et de plongées. J’ai découvert un homme passionné de musique avec qui j’ai pu avoir des discussions qui allaient bien plus loin que la plongée.

Camille nous a très bien encadré pendant toute la durée du cours, tant en niveau des conseils qu’il nous a donnés qu’au niveau de la logistique. Au final, j’ai passé 10 jours des plus enrichissants, très loin de l’image que je me faisais d’un cours long et ennuyeux.

L’IDC avec Camille m’a permis de devenir, je l’espère, un bon instructeur de plongée, mais j’ai également trouvé un ami partageant les mêmes passions que moi, que je me réjouis de retrouver dans le futur pour des nouvelles aventures de plongée et des soirées à refaire le monde !

It's time for one more testimonial and this is one is the Testimonial by Nicola Keller of the May 2018 PADI IDC on Phuket, Thailand in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia'.

Just like the March IDC on Phuket, the May IDC was also a full German spoken event, although my presentations were given from the English IDC slides.

We had fun with both Johannes from Germany and Nico from Switzerland, a lot actually but we never let our main goal out of sight. Successfully getting through the IDC and the PADI IE, with as much of a focus on real life as an instructor as possible. All skills were as always conducted in a neutrally buoyant position. They both dealt wonderful with that and both had very strong scores in all other parts of the IDC program, although there were also some wake up calls and some steep learning curves at times.

All this helped them however to pass the PADI IE with extremely high scores, maximum scores in the classroom, confined and open water and almost maximum scores during the five theory and general standards exams.

Well done Nico, it was a pleasure having you during this program and I also look forward seeing you soon!

Without further ado, here is Nico's testimonial, in fluent German;

Im Mai 2018 habe ich mit Camille Lemmens und Diveasia in Phuket den IDC absolviert. Nach euphorischen persönlichen Empfehlungen durch Freunde hier auf Koh Phangan war für mich schnell klar dass sich die kleine Reise nach Phuket nur lohnen kann. Camille hat sich von der ersten Kontaktaufnahme an sehr Mühe gegeben für mich da zu sein und die letzten Zweifel schnell aus dem Weg geräumt.

Nach einem ersten Augenschein über die erstklassigen Einrichtungen des Kata Big Rock, die Basis von Diveasia, lernten wir die klimatisierten Klassenräume und den grossen Pool mit der Zeit immer besser kennen und schätzen. Das Gefühl des Heimvorteils beim IE, der im selben Pool stattfindet, sollten wir erst später erleben.

Camille, der immer mit einem Witz beginnt, hat uns die anfängliche Nervosität mit seiner ruhigen und präzisen Art genommen und uns sauber auf den IE eingestellt. Als kleine, halbwegs deutschsprachige dreiergruppe hatten wir alle Zeit um bei den Classroom und Theory Sessions Fragen zu stellen und von Camille's beeindruckendem Erfahrungsschatz zu profitieren. In einer lockeren Atmospähre fiel es mir leicht das viele Wissen aufzunehmen und Camille stand immer mit einem Witz oder einer Anektote bereit, noch bevor mir langweilig wurde.

Bei den Pool und Openwater Sessions, in diversen Workshops, Briefings und Präsentationen werden alle Fehler ausgemerzt, man wird auf jedes erdenkliche IE Szenario sowie auf einige Real-Life Situationen vorbereitet.

Und so geht die Zeit dann schnell vorbei, der Tag vom IE ist da und man fühlt sich bereit. Mit dem Rucksack von Camille dabei war die Sache für uns beide dann wider Erwarten ein Spatziergang. Ich fühle mich nun bereit für die Aufgabe als OWSI und ich kann euch nur wärmstens empfehlen dasselbe zu buchen.

Vielen Dank Camille und Diveasia für die lustige und lehrreiche Zeit, ich hoffe wir sehen uns bald mal wieder.

PADI IE on Phuket, Thailand for May 2018 was successfully completed

The PADI IE on Phuket, Thailand was successfully completed for the students of Platinum PADI Course Director Camille Lemmens in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia'.

Two days of nerves and excitement are finally over and both Johannes and Nico are now brand new PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors.

All the hard work during the recent May 2018 PADI IDC has paid off and as a result this May 2018 PADI IE turned out to be a walk in the park for both of them.

Seldom did I have all candidates reach so high scores during a PADI IE. All straight 'fives' during the classroom-, confined- and open water presentations and out of both their theory exams, they missed just one question between them out of 120 questions, covering the physics-, physiology, RDP-, equipment and general skills topics. At the General Standards and procedures exams, they slowed down a bit and between them they missed five questions out of a 100 total questions.

Well done, respect guys!

PADI IDC on Phuket for May 2018 has been successfully completed

The PADI IDC on Phuket for May 2018 has been successfully completed in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia' who are located in Kata beach on Phuket.

Most of the time we spent at Dive Asia's scuba diving training facilities at Kata Big Rock. Plenty of classroom time and lots of time was also spent in the big pool at Kata Big Rock.

Today we were all day long on the boat though, two open water training dives at Raya Noi, followed by a fun dive at Raya Yai, during which we visited three different wrecks.

It's all over now though, no baby blue but the PADI IE is waiting tomorrow! If everything goes right, we will have a two brand new PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors come Sunday afternoon!

All the best guys, you did put the hard work, it should pay off over the weekend. The confidence is high and I'm sure you can make it and cut it during the PADI IE. Stay focused and concentrated and you should be just fine.

EFR- and Emergency Oxygen Provider instructor courses are completed on Phuket for May 2018

Yesterday the EFR- and Emergency Oxygen Provider instructor courses are completed on Phuket for May 2018 in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia' in Kata.

It was a couple of busy days with the ending of the current May 2018 PADI IDC, except for the open water training dives tomorrow, the EFR Instructor course and the Emergency Oxygen provider Instructor course.

Busy but also interesting, educational and also fun! During the EFR Instructor course we looked at a few things outside of the curriculum, which made it even more interesting. One of the things we checked is the rescue service system, that consists of volunteers all over Thailand, who replace the ambulance service as we know it in the Western world.

During the Emergency Oxygen provider instructor course I can always throw in some of my experiences and knowledge of working at the Koh Samui hyperbaric chamber as a tender and operator. Lots of interesting information that I can share which hopefully gives a better insight in the workings of a hyperbaric chamber. It also stresses the importance of administering the highest percentage possible of oxygen, as early as possible after an incident.

PADI IDC on Phuket for May 2018 has started

The PADI IDC on Phuket for May 2018 has started in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia.

We are actually well under way, since we completed day three already today. This German speaking PADI IDC is going well, with two very strong candidates so far. Nico from Switzerland and Johannes from Germany are doing well.

It's challenging and there's a steep learning curve but they are both very switched and also good for a couple of laughs together.

The theory exams and two days of skill circuit practice went really well. Tomorrow we will find out how they will handle themselves with their first confined water presentations and their first knowledge development or classroom presentation.

We're working our way into the whole curriculum of this PADI IDC and each day we chip away on the long list of things to do!As already mentioned, we have had already a couple of good laughs and the atmosphere is relaxed and laid back without losing out of sight what we need to achieve.

This was the first PADI IDC I completely taught in German, which turned out to be a little bit more difficult than I initially expected it to be. But now worries, I managed, Tim understood everything and passed his PADI IE with flying colors and a few words have been added to the German 'Duden'!

Als resultat hat Tim den PADI IE 'dinamitisiert'! Klasse!

It was a good course and it was great having Tim around. I was a bit worried at first how he would react to being the only candidate for this PADI IDC program but it was almost what he hoped for. To add some more spice to the confined- and open water presentations, we joined my friend and fellow Platinum PADI Course Director Richard and his French colleague Nico and their students.
This made it also a bit more realistic for Tim, to be able to work with other IDC candidates. It all paid off nicely and we had good times and results as a result!

Tim, it was a real pleasure and I hope to meet you soon. It's a small world after all! Diving is in your blood, now you just need to get used to being a recreational dive instructor, it's bubbles all the way and all the time now!

Here we go, with Tim's testimonial in full;

Despite my quite advanced OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Diving) sickness before the IDC (33 years of diving), I finally made the decision to do this, as it was always on my mind to be an instructor one day.

I didn't put too much research into as to where and how with to do the course, but I must say, I couldn't have had a better teacher than Camille !

Honestly, Camille understands how to massage the right amount of knowledge into you in perfect dosages so you don't feel overwhelmed or bored at any time. And after the IDC, I had no doubt in my mind that the IE is not doable. Was a piece of cake with Camille's preparation.

I also came "from the dark side" with my Divemaster/Assistant Instructor level from a different organisation, so I was even a more difficult "patient"; but Camille took special care of me. I was also lucky enough to be his only student for this course; which gives you lots of time to ask questions, but also a little bit less exposure to see and learn from other students. But spending a few days for practice with Richards team, it all worked out perfectly!

Specialty instructor training on Phuket in March 2018

March 2018 was a busy diving month and part of this was the Specialty instructor training on Phuket in March 2018 with Tim. This was done in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia' in Kata on Phuket.

Specialty instructor training on Phuket in March 2018; We got caught up in thermo cline, also knows as the 'green monster' during one of our deep dives at the Raya islands. We were at 25 meters when first we were engulfed by the green monster and viz was reduced to 3-4 meters and the temperature dropped a few degrees. However, moments later we had zero visibility and a strong current kicked in. It was pitch black. We ascended and at around 7 meters, viz returned and we managed to take this picture, before we were engulfed once more by the green monster and aborted the dive. I've been in such a thermo cline before, mainly in the Similan islands, but never as bad as this one.

Tim took on 5 instructor level specialties, including the Night-, Deep-, Digital Underwater Photography (DUP)-, Fish ID- and Underwater Navigation instructor level specialty courses.

This is besides the two PADI Instructor level courses that are included for free during all of my PADI IDC programs; the Nitrox or Enriched Air Instructor course (with as prerequisite that you need to be a certified Nitrox diver) and the Emergency Oxygen provider instructor course.

Specialty instructor training on Phuket in March 2018; A big Carpilius maculatus or clown crab we encountered during the night dive at Kata beach. They can grow up to 18cm.

We had some good diving and saw a few interesting sea creatures, including a lot of nudibranches at Koh Doc Mai.

WE also had some interesting experiences, as the story about the thermo cline tells. There's always something that can happen that you never experienced before, even after a couple of thousand logged dives.

It was good fun with good company over the couple of days diving with Tim.

PADI IE on Koh Lanta, Thailand for April 2018 has been successfully completed

Today is party time because the PADI IE on Koh Lanta, Thailand for April 2018 has been successfully completed. Both students of the March - April 2018 PADI IDC on Koh Lanta in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Blue Planet Divers in Ban Saladan on Koh Lanta, Sephora and Fabien , completed the PADI IE with flying colors.

Both had extremely high scores in all parts of the PADI IE and once more, all the hard work during the last ten days paid off handsomely. Now Fabien and Sephora are the newest PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors on the block!

Yesterday the theory and standards exams, the classroom presentation and the confined water were successfully tackled and today, during the morning, they handled themselves very well during the open water presentations.

Two long days have been completed now and it's time to relax and enjoy the achievement. Until we're on the boat again tomorrow, diving around Koh Haa and completing the Specialty Instructor training for Fabien.

Nico was one of the five IDC candidates of the February 2018 IDC in Khao Lak and as he mentioned in this testimonial (in French!), we had lots of contact and email conversations before he came over to Khao Lak. Just like me, he has a background in the music industry and he travelled a lot and lived in a few different countries.

It was good to have Nico in this IDC, he was quick to pick up on things and learned easily, making my life easy and he could dig the Dutch humor! Always a plus, especially coming from a Frenchman!

PADI IDC on Koh Lanta, Thailand for April 2018 has been completed

It's all done and dusted, yesterday the PADI IDC on Koh Lanta, Thailand for April 2018 has been completed in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Blue Planet Divers' in Ban Saladan on Koh Lanta.

This was my first PADI IDC program that I taught in French. Quite a challenge but much appreciated by my two Swiss students, of whom one hardly speaks any English at all.

Besides that it was a good IDC with lots of action, fun and steep learning curves.

PADI IDC on Koh Lanta, Thailand for April 2018 has been completed; On the boat back home, after the March - April IDC open water training dives at Koh Haa during which a whaleshark visited us

We covered all parts of the PADI IDC satisfactory and with plenty of time to answer all questions by the candidates. Neutral buoyancy is now prepped into them, just like all my IDC programs have been taught in recent years.

Workshops are added throughout my IDC to emphasize the correct way or usage of skills or materials. Control, CESA, lift bag use, descents, ropes and the knots, rescue, Discover Scuba Diving and a few more came along.

PADI IDC on Koh Lanta, Thailand for April 2018 has been completed; The whaleshark that was so nice to visit us at Koh Haa during open water training for the IDC. We were practicing Rescue Exercise # 7 at the surface and in-between rescues the whaleshark showed up. Perfect timing.

The high light of this IDC program was however the unexpected visit of a baby whaleshark during our open water training at Koh Haa. It was a first for both Sephora and Fabien. Happy smiles and faces all around during the rest of the day!

PADI Specialty Instructor training in Khao Lak in March 2018

It's almost the end of the month but now it's time to look back at the beginning of the month and check out the PADI Specialty Instructor training in Khao Lak in March 2018.

All five of the candidates participated in the two specialties that are included as part of my PADI IDC programs; the Enriched Air Instructor course (except Nico, who wasn't certified as an Enriched diver, which is a prerequisite for the Instructor level course) and the Emergency Oxygen Provider Instructor course.

After that, Loretta and Holger went with me to the Similan islands for a days worth diving, with two dives for the deep dive instructor specialty.

We went to island # 4 to Stonehenge, except that we jumped as first group and couldn't locate Stonehenge. We did find 32 meters depth though and completed the timed skill, after we turned around to go back, only find ourselves in a fairly strong current. After we started our ascent at 29 meters, we drifted over Stonehenge during our safety stops.

The second dive was at island # 5 at the Tuna wreck. My second time there. A lovely dive with Loretta and Holger trying out diving with an pony tank.

After the PADI IE was completed, Loretta couldn't continue with her specialty instructor training due to illness and I'm looking forward seeing her back, as soon as possible, to complete he specialty instructor training.

That meant it was just Holger and me for the last two days of diving.

One day we dived the Boonsung wreck. This is a great dive site with always plenty of fish around and a great location for the wreck diving instructor specialty.

Over the next two days we completed the Wreck-, Fish ID-, Dive Against Debris- and the Digital Underwater Photography instructor specialties.

The last day of the specialty instructor training we went to the Thai Muang wreck, a first time for me, so it was a little bit exciting.

There was again plenty of fish around and towards the end of the second dive we found various different nudibranches.

A great location to finish off the diving for this trip and a dive site I'm looking forward to visit again. Still plenty to discover there.

PADI IDC on Koh Lanta, Thailand for March 2018 has started

The PADI IDC on Koh Lanta, Thailand for March 2018 has started yesterday in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Blue Planet Divers' in Ban Saladan on Koh Lanta.

This time around it's a Swiss affair, with Sephora and Fabien originating from la Suisse! After the recent March 2018 PADI IDC on Phuket which I taught in German, this PADI IDC is being taught in French! A first for me and so far it's going fine. Both Sephora and Fabien are very happy with me being able to speak French and conduct this PADI program in French.

Since two days we're making progress in the course and at the end of day two, we have completed a set of theory exams, a skill circuit and rescue exercise # 7 in confined water and a bunch of presentations by me.

It's a cozy course so far with just the two candidates, so lots of personal attention are guaranteed, but it also comes with a steep learning curve for both of them. No more Divemaster live and points of views for them, they're now on the way to become PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors.

PADI IDC on Koh Lanta, Thailand for March 2018 has started; Sephora and Fabien about to tackle some theory exams.

With Kevin in your classroom you know that any moment something can or is about to happen. It was a fun time and course and as a fellow teacher, I could learn a thing or two from Kevin as well.

Time flew by, especially when you're having a good time and we sure did, during the IDC, the PADI IE and the specialty instructor training. A good time to look back on!

Nine months ago I did my IDC in Phuket with Camille Lemmens. I have waited until now to write a review of my experience because it was not until this past week that I completed teaching my first open water courses. I wanted to comment on my IDC through the lens of how well it prepared me for actual teaching. My situation is a bit unique in that I am not trying to launch a career as a dive instructor. I have been a high school teacher for twenty-five years and I will only be instructing courses in diving for students at my school. As an older, experienced professional educator, I thought I might have presented a unique challenge to Camille as his student. In terms of that, I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, in hindsight, I am sure I would not have found a better IDC experience anywhere!

Leading up to the IDC, Camille provided important information to help prepare for my arrival and the first day of class and answered any question I had promptly - within 24 hours – including giving a perfect suggestion for accommodations. He was friendly and personable from start to finish and did an excellent job helping his students feel confident and at ease. I really appreciated his sense of humor and I have fond memories of the regular laughter that punctuated our days together. As there is a lot of material to get through and a set way to wade through it, being rigorous but at the same time creating a student-friendly environment is a real talent of his that we appreciated throughout the course.

Camille’s knowledge and experience is far-reaching. He was able to extend ideas well beyond the curriculum and to answer any of our questions regardless of how technical. All of the extra information he provided kept the class interesting. Camille is also extremely supportive. At times he needed to demonstrate a level of patience with me that another instructor might not have exhibited. I remember the excellent coaching and encouragement he provided before the IE. He meets his students where they are in their understanding or skill level and gets them to where they need to be.

The proof is in the pudding. I wasn’t the best student at the beginning of my IDC but after all was said and done, I really felt I was especially well prepared for my IE and I passed it with flying colours. Most importantly, even after an eight-month wait to start working with students, I still feel very well equipped to successfully teach the Open Water and Specialty courses. I believe the students I just finished working with had a very capable instructor and a very positive experience and I have Camille to thank for my success. PADI IE on Phuket for March 2018 was very successful

The PADI IE on Phuket for March 2018 was very successful for our candidate of the March 2018 PADI IDC on Phuket, in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia' in Kata on Phuket.

Tim, from Germany, did very well, with full scores of a 5.0 for each of his two open water dive skills and a perfect rescue exercise # 7 scenario. Add to that the high scores he had yesterday during the six exams, 5 theory exams and a standards exam, plus his classroom presentation and the confined water presentation and one can say that he walked through the PADI IE with ease!

Proud of you Tim! The long days, the many questions and the hard work did pay off in the end. Job done and over with.
It was good to have you and we had our fun! The German 'Duden' has some words added and the drives over to Patong to meet the other guys for your confined and open water presentations were enjoyable, Especially with the added treats of 'Praetzels', straight out of the oven.

Now you can go back to work with your head high!

The next couple of days will also be fun when we hit the dive sites around Phuket at the Raya islands and Koh Phi Phi for some PADI Specialty Instructor training. Am looking forward to that!

PADI IDC and EFR Instructor courses have been completed for March 2018 on Phuket

Both the PADI IDC and EFR Instructor courses have been completed for March 2018 on Phuket, Thailand in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia' in Kata on Phuket,

With Tim, coming form the dark side, or in other words, a different recreational scuba diving training organisation, it was an interesting course. Tim, who is German, actually enjoyed being the only students, allowing him all the time he needed to ask all the question she had and that came up about the PADI system.

On top of that he also had the benefit of training in confined and open water with four IDC candidates of a different PADI CDC center on Phuket, allowing him to practice in more realistic and simulating real life scenarios.

It was an interesting ten days for both of us during which Tim learned a lot, I answered a lot of questions and the German language was enriched with some new words and phrases. Oh yes, and we had some fun and good times here and there as well, despite the long days we ended up having.

PADI IDC and EFR Instructor courses have been completed for March 2018 on Phuket; After one of the two open water training dives in Crystal Bay in Patong, Phuket, with candidates from another CDC center on Phuket

To stay within the PADI standards, we hooked up with another PADI CDC center on Phuket and their fours candidates, two PADI Course Directors and a PADI IDC Staff Instructor for the confined and open water training dives.

This allowed Tim to practice skills and presentations with a small group of students and deal with their problems. It was more realistic for him and a great learning curve and some good fun came along with this set up. Thanks to Richard, Nico and Philippe for having us!

PADI IDC and EFR Instructor courses have been completed for March 2018 on Phuket; Tim after having completed the EFR Instructor course at the scuba diving training facilities of Dive Asia at Kata Big Rock on Phuket

Two days ago, Thursday 15th march, Tim also completed his EFR Instructor course, as part of the Platinum PADI IDC package he booked. He completed this course also very successfully and this coming Monday, after the PADI IE, we will be diving for two more days, completing PADI specialty Instructor training.

I did my IDC with Camille on Koh Lanta in January 2018, about 3 month ago from current date. I’ve been so busy doing courses and guiding since then, that I haven’t found the time to give proper feedback. But I figured it’s time.

My very first impression of Camille was that he was taking his job of creating instructors very seriously. The classroom presentations were very detailed. As expected, there was a lot of information to take in. However, everything was very well thought through. Very often, he made sure that we understood. And if we didn’t, he gladly took whatever time was needed to explain. You never felt stupid for asking questions, which I think is very important. ��At the same time, there was much room for jokes and laughter. The IDC was demanding, and sometimes stressful. But it never felt overwhelming. And I believe a big part of that has to do with Camille's ability to combine fun with learning. He never seemed bored with his job to teach, but rather very passionate. The IDC was very personalized; every candidate was given individual attention to whatever they needed to improve and put more effort into. ��In the end, the best way I can describe Camille is as a friend. He never felt like one of those boring teachers back in school who only did things by the book. Of course, we did cover the very basic parts of the course, but he also shared his own experience and put scenarios in a very living and realistic perspective. I learned that there’s not always a right or wrong in being an instructor. We always got to share our thoughts and discuss, and together come up with answers. That how I like to learn. ��During the Instructor examination, Camille was there to support, even if he could’ve just stayed home and relaxed after what must have been 10 really intense days for him with us candidates. That alone should give you an idea of what a great course director he his. I can’t do anything but recommend him to future IDC candidates.

Here's already the second for the February IDC, a Testimonial by Chris Stewart of the February 2018 PADI IDC in Khao Lak, Thailand in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Sea Dragon' in Khao Lak. Yesterday was Loretta's testimonial, today's it's Chris'.

There were five candidates in the Khao Lak IDC and Chris was one of the five who had a long history with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Sea Dragon' in Khao Lak. He completed almost his courses with them and was also working a lot for them as a Divemaster. Being half Thai helped, since he doesn't a work permit, which will make him very employable in the dive industry all around Thailand.

Interesting to know is that he spent half of his life on the sea, catching fish and lobster since a young age back in the UK.

Although he struggled a lot with physics in the beginning, we spend a lot of time after hours, going over theory each day. What was good to see, that he took the initiative a lot of times to do so. Even before I could ask him, he was already on the ball and arranged for us to meet after hours. Showing that he really wanted this and eventually he passed the physics PADI IE exam with 100%. Well done Chris!

He is also a very entertaining person, for more of his shenanigans, check out Loretta's testimonial, she opens a few insights of Chris' prankster arsenal during this IDC. I can't imagine what else he pulls off on a daily routine!

The first day was a little stressful with the first exams but I knew I could do better and with a lot of practice exams and Camille's patience with showing me the formulas 20 Times, I began to understand everything better.

This was a fun PADI IDC program, one where we had lots of fun and the IDC candidates walked away happily and learned loads of new things. They also learned how to be prepared for real life as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

Although, this wasn't the only or first IDC like that, the last couple of years there were plenty of those! Luckily for me and the candidates.

Loretta was a great candidate. She was nervous at the start of the IDC but came well prepared. All the prepping paid off during the IDC, she flew through it and had great scores in all facets and topics of the PADI IE and she cruised through the PADI IE.

Without further ado, here's Loretta's testimonial;

A couple weeks ago, I found myself sitting in a small classroom at Sea Dragon Dive Center with a bunch of random dudes from around the world.

Guido was my buddy from whom I had first met on Lembongan almost a year ago. We signed up for this same IDC by pure coincidence, and were both stunned when we found out. I’d met Chris briefly on one of my earlier trips to Khao Lak in 2016. On the first day of the IDC, I met Holger and Nico for the first time, as well as our Course Director Camille.

Over the next few days, we spent mornings in the classroom sitting through endless powerpoint slides, then afternoons in the pool doings skills and confined water presentations. It was tough, but I really enjoyed it. It didn’t take long before we were up to all sorts of shenanigans. We had an amazing group and I’m so happy to have gone through the IDC with these awesome people.

Guido – I don’t know why your ‘thing’ was ‘the Patagonian who’s apparently always up to some shady shit’ haha. Thanks for working hard together with me on exams and pool before the IDC even began! I’m really thankful that somehow we ended up doing the same IDC together, especially since you had to come over from the “dark side”. Thank you for being a great buddy and looking out for me.

Nico – My cool French brother, the token smoker in the group who is always dropping things! I’ve learnt a lot from all of your wise questions to Camille. You seemed serious at first but you’re actually fucking hilarious. Thank you for being there for me when I was drunk that night haha.

Holger – The gentle German. You work the hardest among us, coming in to class early every morning and working at the shop after class. You’re so sweet and thoughtful too. Thank you for being so reliable and always making sure that we have everything that we need.

Chris – Subtitles not included. Nobody knew you were such a prankster until all our fin straps had been unfastened. Thanks for pushing me in the pool, asshole 😛 And pulling on my tank, and unclipping my fin straps, and splashing me with your fins… But seriously, thanks for all the fun.

Camille – You are an amazing Course Director. Your enthusiasm has made learning even dry material enjoyable. Choosing to do my IDC with you is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Thank you for sending me to the hospital and staying with me for hours even though we already had such a long day and you had to travel the next day. Thank you for your care and concern. Words can’t express how much I appreciate it. I’ll see you soon.

I’m really proud of all of us. This was an amazing experience and I will miss you guys so much.

PADI IDC for March 2018 on Phuket, Thailand is under way

Straight out of Khao Lak and the PADI IDC for March 2018 on Phuket, Thailand is under way in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia'.

Straight after completing the specialty instructor training with Holger in Khao Lak, last Tuesday, I was off during the afternoon to Phuket. After a two hour drive I arrived on Phuket and Wednesday morning Tim and me kicked off the March 2018 IDC. We're at Dive Asia's scuba diving training facilities, already on day four of this current PADI IDC on Phuket.

It has been a while that I started two PADI IDC programs back to back and it has also been a long time since I taught just one candidate. Tim, who's from Germany, is very happy being taught alone, since he gets all the personal attention he can wish for. Especially of importance, since his training has been with a different recreational diving organization. he's coming from the dark side, so to speak.

Our confined and open water training will be done with another PADI Course Director on Phuket and his IDC candidates, so all requirements for the IDC will be met.

PADI IDC for March 2018 on Phuket, Thailand is under way; Tim ready to tackle his theory exams this morning. What better way can there be to start your day!

We're already well on our way and progress is being booked by Tim. Stay tuned for more updates over the coming days.

Next weekend will see the PADI IE come to town, and Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th March will be full of excitement!
