Pageflakes today announced the first Developer Release of its new AJAX desktop (personalized start page). The open web application platform at http://www.pageflakes.com lets users access applications (aka “Flakes”) developed by Pageflakes’ development team as well as applications developed by developers from all over the world.

Pageflakes already offers an RSS reader, news feeds, stock quotes, web search, dictionary and other modules. Over time, Pageflakes wants to let users do everything from checking email and voice mail, watching Internet TV and managing To-Do-Lists to name just a few examples. For developers, Pageflakes is an attractive way to present web applications to a big audience of Internet users. The company’s programming worked hard to make the development of new applications as easy and enjoyable as possible:

Developers can use MS Visual Studio, significantly simplifying UI development
The platform supports ASP.NET and Atlas, Microsoft's giant framework for AJAX developers
Developers can also use PHP or JSP, making Pageflakes truly platform-independent

The company invites developers to submit their applications starting today.
