Term Limits Now In Full Effect

We come out of hibernation to bring you video of the final day of the 100th Unicameral Session. The Ernie countdown clock finally hit zero, to the excitement of lobbyists and adversarial senators. Ernie operated just as he had for the previous four decades and urged his peers to "keep it cool, if you don't mind" regarding any celebration. Interesting to note he wore his black shirt today because he seems to wear it on days he anticipates serious discussion or event. This year's session was much calmer, less climatic and the newbies appeared to grow thicker skin over the interim to be less offended by the senior senator. AND Sally Gordon lived to <del>sleep through</del> see another session and remains sharper than some of the senators half her age!

Sen. Chambers' Last Unicameral Debate:
Fittingly, Ernie got to stick it to Tiny Heine one last time. The fact that his last debate involved a seemingly trivial matter, fluoride in public drinking water, exemplifies his life long vigor and dedication to people in need, however small.

While much has already been said elsewhere about the greatness of Ernie Chambers we offer a few remarks. On a personal level Ernie is guarded but always extremely kind and generous. He is inherently a better, more decent person than most can even hope to become. As a fan for many years we have enjoyed countless hours of his beautiful oratory and tedious winnowing. He is a man of principle that provided lessons and guidance for those willing to listen. He has inspired and we feel honored to have known Ernie. We appreciate his every effort whether in agreeance or not. While Ernie's absence will leave a huge vacuum of intellect and reasoning in the legislature that will resound throughout the state, surely he will continue his efforts elsewhere. We will miss him. The Unicameral just got a whole hell of a lot more boring folks. It will be interesting to see others attempt to fill the vacuum.

It is a sad event, like a funeral, and now even difficult to speak of Ernie in present tense. But it's more than a death - it's far more analogous to a murder. Like others, Ernie was forced out by the undemocratic instrument of term limits. Yes, we said it, term limits murdered the career of perhaps the greatest senator in Nebraska history. A hate crime indeed. And like OJ, Nebraskans may be off the hook now but it's sure to catch up and bite them in the arse in the end.

LR404 Naming the Ernie Chambers Judiciary Committee Room:
Some very nice words and reflections offered about Ernie.

The Ernie Chambers Inspired Scholarship:

Term-Limited Senators Give Final Remarks:
Not surprisingly Ernie, not one for ceremony, headed for the exit following the preceding override vote.

Part 1

Part 2

Tiny Heine Gives Session End Address:

Another earth shattering speech by the grand master.span>
