If you are an affiliate manager for a company that also runs Google Video Ads, I want to share a unique opportunity to find new affiliates for your program. I serve as the affiliate manager for a national brand and thankfully, I also have access to the company’s Google Ads account (because I manage that as well). I recently came across a “hack” while running Google Ads reports so I thought I would share it.

If you don’t have access to Google Ads, you will need to request access or make friends with the person who has access in the company. If you are requesting access, make sure to let them know you only want “Read Only” which is less threatening. If you can’t get access, you will want to ask them to run a few reports for you.

What Report Do You Need?

Under Google Video Ads is a report called “Where Ads Showed” under placements. The link to view this will appear at the top of the screen:

It is here that you can see (you guessed it) where your keyword targeted video ads have shown. As you look at this list of websites and YouTube channels, you will be able to add several metrics to views such as Impressions, Views, View Rate, Cost per View, and several others. The columns that I recommend viewing are Impressions, View Rate, and Conversions. You want to see which channels are getting the best engagement or conversions to find out which audiences are resonating with your message. Once you have identified them, you can reach out and share the data to make your case that this brand would make a good affiliate. I recommend sending a screenshot if you can, and obviously remove any data that you would not want to share. This screenshot below shows some sample metrics, however, I have removed the channels for privacy.

What I found that first caught my attention was that there was a brand that I had met with at Affiliate Summit, and I had literally followed up with them a day prior. I noticed they were at the top of the list and had some decent metrics, so I used this as an opportunity to follow up and confirm my suspicions that they would be a good brand to work with. Next, I scoured the list and found another brand that I had reached out to that didn’t show much interest. Using the data, I crafted an email to the president of the company that essentially said, “your audience loves our content… why not get paid for sharing it?” I am still waiting to hear back from those two companies, however, I now have a list of several new potential affiliates to reach out to.

If you happen t give this a try, I’d love to hear how it works for you. If you have any questions about affiliate management or digital marketing, feel free to reach out.

website and started to see some improvement. In fact, in just a few days, he went from a trickle of sales to making over $600 in 2 days! As I congratulated him, I said the key question to ask is “what does it take to make that happen consistently?” To which he agreed.

So, what does it take? Well, for starters you need to look at what you did. It’s been said that “you cannot manage what you do not measure”, and it’s very true in every aspect of life. It sounds silly, but often times people obtain success in affiliate marketing (or in another area of life) and they don’t really know how or why they are successful. Even worse, they don’t dig deeper to find out.

I recall one time I was getting checks in the mail from an affiliate program that I had stopped promoting years prior. I wanted so bad to find out where this money was originating to I could improve on it, but I could not and the checks eventually stopped coming in.

In the case of the affiliate I was working with, he knew what had helped and it was finding some low hanging fruit in the form of long tail keywords to optimize his site for. Now do you think he was going to go out and find some more of those? You better believe it!

So the keys to duplicating success in your affiliate business are:

Identify Where you Need Improvement. Is it traffic? Is it a list? Is it conversions? Whatever it is, identify the problem. In my friends case, he needed more traffic and he found a way to get it.

Learn How to Make the Improvements You Need. The Internet can be your friend when you want to learn a new skill. Sometimes is also requires a coach or someone who has been there before. People are often willing to help you if you ask. There is a another saying that I love, “we have not because we ask not.” ASK for help!

Record Your Baselines. If you don’t know where you are starting, you won’t know how successful you are in the end.

TAKE ACTION. Once you know what to do, take action. Remember, knowledge is not power.. APPLIED knowledge is power! Implement the changes you decide to make and see what the results are.

Measure Results. Did the changes work? Do they need a tweak? This is where you will do the real work. Marketing is about testing and making adjustments, and you should never stop testing in marketing.

Revise, Repeat, and REVVV UP! – As you find what is not working, you will need to revise along the way. When you find what is working, you will not only want to repeat it, but REVV IT UP!

I hope that is helpful. Feel free to let me know how this process works for you!

The post The Keys to Duplicating Success in Affiliate Marketing (and in Life!) first appeared on Affiliate Marketing Training.

I see this question asked a lot by those new to affiliate marketing, so I want to address it. First, this is not the best question to ask as there is no single “best” affiliate program to join. The question to ask is “what is the best one for YOU to join?” I am not playing with words; they are two totally different questions. The reason is that everyone comes to affiliate marketing with a different set of experience, skills, and backgrounds, so what is a great program for one may not be a great fit for someone else. Here are some questions to ask yourself as you get started in affiliate marketing to identify the types of products and companies you want to promote as an affiliate:

What Am I An Expert At? If you are an expert, you can start a website or blog about your topic of expertise and then monetize it via affiliate offers. The best affiliate offers for youare going to be the ones offered by companies that solve problems for your specific audience.

What Am I Passionate About? Similarly, when we are passion driven, we can generate content pretty easily and when we generate content, we can attract website visitors interested in our content. When we attract targeted website visitors, those visitors end up being customers through our affiliate offerings.

Once you have answered these questions, you now know the industries in which you want to find affiliate offers. From there, now you can look at the specific program and ask the following questions to identify the best affiliate programs to join based on your goals:

Is the Company a Part of an Affiliate Network? To me, this is important because companies that are a part of affiliate networks usually pay consistently.

How Much Does The Company Pay Per Transaction? If you are doing the work to make the sale, you might as well make the most money.

Is the Company Reputable? Remember, your reputation is on the line when you link to an affiliate offer. I have actually had people care enough to inform me that I was once offering something that was not in line with my brands reputation. Admittedly, it was early on in my affiliate career, so I was doing something foolish and that was recommending a digital product that I had not read. I quickly ended the relationship and advised my community… all was good again. If you are starting out and this happens, you may not be able to recover. Thankfully, I had built a solid following in a community by sharing my expertise, so my community trusted me.

Does The Company Pay for Future Business? Some companies will pay you for the life of the customer, which is nice. Some companies that offer monthly services actually pay residual commissions for the life of the customer; those are nice!

Does The Company Provide Resources? Good companies will offer banners, email copy, and an affiliate manager who can offer helpful tips in promoting their products as an affiliate.

I hope you have found this helpful on your journey to find the best affiliate program for YOU!

The post What is the Best Affiliate Program to Join? first appeared on Affiliate Marketing Training.

Many affiliates don’t know that working closely with an affiliate manager can pay off in many ways. If you have a program that you are passionate about or make lots of sales for, you should be in close contact with your affiliate manager. Here are some of the benefits of working closely with your affiliate manager:

FREE Product Samples. Depending on the product or service, the company knows that you will sell more if you are more intimate with the company and the products of the company. If your manager can help get product to you, he or she will. I know as an affiliate manager I have done this and seen the impact on sales.

Increased Commissions. Many affiliates don’t know that they can (in some cases) get more commissions just for asking. Now keep in mind, you have to be an active and top producing affiliate in most cases to get higher commissions, however they do exist. As an affiliate, I have received commission increases just for asking.

Learn About New Products or Services. Sometimes, the company will share with their top affiliates or insiders about new products or services that are coming down the road to allow you to prepare for them and be ahead of the general pool of affiliates.
