Why Do We Get Back Pain Between Shoulder Blades ?

Upper back pain or pain between shoulder blades is a reason to get concerned about as this is the indication to a large collection of problems which are potentially afflicting the sufferer and as such requires immediate diagnosis, but there is a silver lining to this dark cloud and that is the pain that is associated with chronic pain between shoulder blades is not as sharp as the pain accompanies herniated discs, sciatica, malformed spinal cord, compressed vertebra, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis or other conditions which can create pain in the upper back. If you are suffering any of the above listed inflictions, then the only method of getting treatment is to consult with a doctor as these often require surgical procedure to cure.

Often these kinds of back pain between the shoulder blades are caused by bad sitting posture or working in front of the computer for prolonged period of time. If you are suffering from back pain caused by this issue, then a very simple issue will be to simple stretch. A good stretching exercise can easily help you to shrug off the annoying back pain and get back to your work. A more practical way to get rid of the pain would be to stop sitting and walk around a while with your back straightened or lie down flat on your back. These techniques help reach a temporary solution to the problem and are just techniques to allow you to work for longer period of time which is not appropriate for your shoulder.

However, if you are experiencing back pain between the shoulder blades for a long while and on a chronic scale, it will be wise to consult a doctor, preferably your family physician who can advice you on the best course of action and can guide you towards exercise that can alleviate the pain. Usually, chronic back pain is caused by improper lifting of heavy weight, prolonged sitting in the wrong posture and keeping your shoulders stooped and lying down improperly. If you are experiencing back pain, first check whether you have experienced anything similar in the past few days and try to avoid these unhealthy habits. Make sure that you sit with your spine straight and not bent which we usually tend to do while trying to sit in the couch or the relaxing chairs. These sitting arrangement promote back pain between the shoulder blades.

A funny fact is that it is better for the back if you sit in an uncomfortable, straight backed wooden chair than if you are sitting in a cushioned reclining chair, according to doctors. This is because the spine is naturally meant to remain straight in a strict vertical manner which is not very comfortable, but it is what’s best for the spine when compared to the recliners. Also, it is not recommended to pick up heavy objects with your back as the support. In situations where heavy objects need lifting always use your legs to lift the object rather than your back as doing otherwise will cause more pain between the shoulder blades.

Reasons for Shoulder Injuries and First Aid Technique

Anyone involved with physically stressful sports like soccer or football will at least once in their entire career experience shoulder injuries. This is commonly attributed to the tackling that is a very essential property of either sport. Most of the shoulder injuries experienced by players playing these sports are incurred on the person’s right shoulder for right handed and left shoulder for the lefty players. This is because, as we are more dexterous with our right hand in general, we tend to tackle with our right shoulder and as such most of the players experience pain in their right shoulder.

Shoulder injuries are very important, especially in sports like cricket where the bowler has to spin the shoulder joint with tremendous force to generate the necessary momentum to propel the ball towards the batsman in hopes of delivering a devastating pace, however, during this phase, the shoulder takes in a huge amount of pressure and if not properly warmed up can lead to devastating results. The primary reason for incurring shoulder injuries in any sport is because of lack of warm up. Lack of warm up makes the tendons of the shoulder remain stiff and can snap during fast movements of the arm. To avoid this, it is essential to maintain a good practice of shoulder exercises.

The first warm up that you should do is for the shoulder. You should spin your entire arm in clockwise direction slowly for a while and then counter clockwise. This helps in making your arm rotation more fluid and gets your shoulders ready for moving about in a circle. The next warm up you should perform is to stretch your shoulders. You can do this by extending one arm and pointing it towards the other arm and then using the other arm to hold your arm in a grapple and press in it. This step will ensure that your shoulder joint is loosened up and reduces the chances of incurring shoulder injuries where your shoulder gets dislocated. Make sure that you perform your shoulder warm ups before any other form of warm up as the shoulder is the most used joint in the human body and every hand movement is carried through from the shoulder down to the rest, so it is very important to maintain the shoulder’s state to avoid shoulder injuries.

In case you already got shoulder injuries, the first thing to do is to make sure that the shoulder gets no more stress as the more stress that it will get after the injury, the worse the condition of the shoulder will become. The best way to prevent further stress is to make a sling to hold the arm in until the doctor gets it fixed. Make sure that the injury is reported and checked immediately as shoulder injuries are very volatile and should not be overlooked as these can develop into serious issues that might ultimately lead you to become unable to play any sports or even worse like lack of mobility.
