BTW, my sister had to wait for 2 hours before she got in at 10 a.m and by then everything already kena sapu by all the other kiasu fellas. Apparently a lot of the staff were holding back some goods for their friends/family members. Terrible right.. but it's okay la, who am I to complain..

MAC Authentics Face Palette. This one is okay...I don't usually buy MAC, but I don't see MAC coming out with too many combined palettes? That big slab there is a blusher (Uniquely You). The rest are eyeshadows (Total Bliss, Moss Spot, Blackberry)

Estee Lauder Graphic Color Eyeshadow Quad in Urban Metals (08). Nice. I like this one very much!

MAC lipglosses (top to bottom - Bazaarish -my fave, Lull, Nice Buzz). I like the colour selections but the fragrance turned me off a bit. The beige one has a really strong vanilla smell to it. Is it normal or has it gone bad? MAC experts please let me know ya!

Review: The Body Shop Vitamin E Gentle Facial Cleansing Wipes.

Do you commit the ultimate makeup sin of not removing your makeup before going to bed? I do it... sometimes. Well, sometimes it's because I'm just too tired (or mabuk hur hur), but many times it's because I'm not at home and do not have access to my makeup removers.

YES, NOT REMOVING MAKEUP BEFORE BEDTIME IS BAD BAD BAD!

Been wanting to try out those facial cleansing wipes for some time since it's suppose to be really easy, just wipe your face and go to bed. So I finally tried it out, and let's see how effective it really is!

The facial cleansing wipe that I used was:- The Body Shop, Vitamin E Gentle Facial Cleansing Wipes. It claims to be "One step cleansing and toning to remove makeup, impurities, and dull skin cells. With Vitamin E antioxidant protection. Suitable for all skin type."

There are 25 towelettes in one pack, and at RM 25 per pack, this means that each towelette kaching is RM 1. Cheap or expensive? I think it's okay for occasional usage, it's not like I'm gonna use these wipes everyday. So, does this cleansing wipe does what it claims, and would I use it every time for makeup removal?

First of all, the towelette is the size of a tissue paper. I like the size of the wipe - it is big enough for me to wipe my face. In fact, what I did was fold it twice to 1/4 its size and wipe, change side, wipe change side. The smell is not overpowering for me, even though I do not like products with fragrance.

I used one towelette to remove a full face makeup (foundation, blusher, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick) and this is the result.

It does not effectively remove eyeliner & mascara. Well, I didn't rub too hard at that area, but it managed to remove most of the eyeshadow, and some eyeliner. The waterproof mascara stayed on. This means that this facial cleansing wipe must be used together with an eye makeup remover. Well, they didn't claim that this will remove eye makeup...
Everything else *seemed* to have been removed. My face feels nice and soft.

So to test whether the cleansing wipe really removed all traces of makeup, I used a toner on a cotton pad and wiped my face as I normally would after cleansing.

Clean or not? Turns out that one towelette is not sufficient, because... all traces of makeup is removed only after 5 times of toning (as a test). Perhaps I should have used 2 towelettes instead? However, one towelette should be sufficient for light makeup user.

Is this facial cleansing wipe gentle as it claims to be? Well, at first my face felt nice, clean and soft but after a while it felt a bit tight, so I had to put on some moisturiser. (- point) I actually anticipated that the facial wipe will make my face feel itchy (maybe just a bit) but it did not! (+ point) Perhaps someone can share their experience if they've tried it and found it to be harsh or not suitable for sensitive skin.

Would I use this product again? Sure, when I'm too lazy to do the usual cleansing ritual. But I'll be sure to have my eye makeup remover and moisturiser in place, and I'll definitely have to use at least 2 towelettes to remove all traces of makeup.

A little update on the Sana Pore Putty Makeup Base

Don't use the makeup base when you haven't slept the night and have crap skin. My skin was really terrible as sleepless nights = dehydrated skin = peeling skin = flapping skin on my nose after using the makeup base.
If you have sensitive skin (usually red and peeling), please don't use this product, you'll only exaggerate the flapping skin.

BTW, this is what happened: Put on the makeup base, then foundation, and realised that it looked too matte (not enough sleep la!). My entire nose was peeling...skin everywhere, my mouth area looked so dry... this doesn't happen often since I have oily skin.

How I solved the problem: covered my nose to utilise the moisture from my palm to kinda tone down the dryness. It helped a bit, and then my oily skin took over and everything is fine again.

I guess I raved about the product too early. Doesn't mean I don't love it, just that I won't use it if my skin is real dehydrated.

BUT THE OVERALL RATING IS STILL GOOD, BECAUSE... IT KEPT MY FACE SHINE FREE FOR 8 BLOODY HOURS!!! I normally start to shine like 3 hours after...

And here's the back portion in Japanese, for whoever who's interested in ingredient or whatever it is at the back.... and whoever who can read Japanese...

Review: Sana Pore Putty Makeup Base

Omg omg omg

Few weeks ago I finally got to try out the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer and it was amazing! After trying it out I was contemplating ordering it over the net, but hesitated after taking into account the high shipping cost to ship to Malaysia.

THEN I WENT TO SASA IN SINGAPORE, TRIED OUT THIS MAKEUP BASE FROM SANA CALLED PORE PUTTY AND OMG IT HAS THE SAME CONSISTENCY AS THE SMASHBOX PRIMER AND IT FEELS EXACTLY THE SAME AND IT WORKS THE SAME.

This is the Sana Pore Putty - Makeup Base. The texture is somewhat dry but slippery and can be applied easily.

Sana is a Japanese brand, kinda like Majolica Majorca. Sana products are made in Japan, and I like it that way.

Claims to cover pores - Expectation met. Pore visibly smaller, less visible.
Keeps shine off - Expectation met. Applying Sana Pore Putty Makeup Base lets my face stay matte for way longer than previous one used- Laura Mercier Foundation Primer.
Makeup last longer - Expectation met. Because it keeps shine away, you do not have to blot as often, makeup does not run and stay beautiful even longer!

I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT SO SO MUCH!

Very suitable for people with normal to oily skin. NOT suitable for those with dry skin. It will make your skin look even drier. I learnt it the hard way last weekend during a shoot.

And it is not expensive either. It retails at about S$ 18 (after conversion, less than RM 50). I don't see it at our local Sasa...

Would I buy it again? Hell yesssssssss

Bought: Yaby Eyeshadow Palette - Best of Both Worlds

Just bought the Best of Both Worlds eyeshadow palette from Yaby Cosmetics. I'm having mixed feelings about this palette.

The palette is white, and has Yaby right in front of it in gray. Nice and clean. I like it.

The Best of Both Worlds eyeshadow palette has 40 colours made up of neutral shadows and pearl paints. If you want only neutral shadow there's the Dramatically Neutral palette, and then there's the World of Pearl Paints palette especially for those who love shimmery colours.

This picture below shows the shadows in colour that is closer to its actual colour in real life.

The size of each pan is small. Below you can see how it compares to a Shu Uemura eyeshadow single and MAC Blusher. Sorry, I don't have any MAC eyeshadow, so I can't show any comparison, but you get the idea :)

You can click on the pics to view the details of the palette. One of the eyeshadow got smashed en route so... sighs...

I'm playing with it right now, swatching it onto the back of my hand, as well as on art paper. Will put it up when I'm done, hopefully. So far, the pearl paints looks promising, while I feel that the matte colours do not have that great colour payoff. I don't know, I really need to play with it somemore, considering I paid nearly RM 300 for this palette. It was on sale at USD 75 (excluding shipping cost) when I bought it last month but if you're interested in getting this palette, you can get it at Yaby Cosmetic's site for USD 120 now.

Yaby Cosmetics is developed by Canadian makeup artist, Liz Yu. Makeup artists around the world are raving about her eyeshadows, especially the pearl paints. My order were delivered in less than a week with a free lip colour! Thanks Liz! Now I just need to repress the crumbling shadow...

Review: Loreal Telescopic Mascara Part Deux

Okay, I changed my mind about the Loreal Telescopic Mascara. Previously I've said that I don't think I'll ever use it again, but I take it back.

Because this thing is damn excellent when you use it on your false lashes!!! The texture of the mascara is thin so your false lashes will look thicker minus the clumps. The mascara wand obviously play a very important part here.

Now someone's gonna ask...hmm...why would I wanna put mascara on my false lashes.. Well..... some people actually use mascara to join their real lashes to the false lashes avoid the 2 prong mascara look, and to make the false lashes look more natural! Do this after sticking the fakies on and curling the two (real and fake) lashes together, okay?

Bought the wrong shade of foundation?

So you went shopping, bought an expensive bottle of foundation but came home to find that ohhh noooo it is not the right shade for you? Or perhaps over the change of season your skin colour have gone lighter or darker?

Fear not because there is help...

First and foremost, please note that this solution applies only for liquid or cream foundation. If you've bought the wrong shade of POWDER foundation, then I'm sorry because this won't be applicable.

The Solution
Pressed or loose powder!

If your foundation shade that is too light, darken it by setting it with a darker loose or pressed powder. (After applying foundation, dust a layer of darker powder over it)

If your foundation is too dark for you, lighten it by setting it with a lighter loose or pressed powder. (After applying foundation, dust a layer of lighter powder over it)

Easy, no?

Some tips
Tip #1: Use powder brush to apply pressed powder to your face. If you're using loose powder, you can use both powder brush or powder puff. Using powder puff to apply loose powder will be less messy. Try not to use powder puff to apply pressed powder (unless you're out) because it will 'move' your foundation around and it is more difficult to pick up the pressed powder using powder puff.

Tip #2: Pressed or loose powder is not the same as powder foundation. The former is to be used with liquid or cream foundation, while the latter is used on its own.

And yes, it is necessary to set your foundation with either loose powder or pressed powder so that the foundation won't run and will remain intact on your face for the rest of the day. Using loose or pressed powder will help control the shine too!

What's so great about gel eyeliners?

Just some rambling today, no picture, I think, at least at this point in time I don't think I'll put any picture in this post.

You hear about how people keep going on and on about how great gel eyeliner such as MAC Fluidline and Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Liner are, but what some don't realise is that gel liners may not be suitable for every look.

1. Using gel liners to line your eyes will definitely make your eyes look more defined. However, does it suit the look you're going for? For example, if you're going for the Japanese shimmery makeup look, the gel liner may look too harsh compared to the 'soft' look of the shimmery eye colour.

2. It takes helluva lot of practice before you can actually draw nice clean lines with your gel liner, using whatever size brush you're using. MAC has this flat liner brush, which I don't think is all that great. I prefer using the line brush with really fine tip, almost as if there are like 10 strands of hair or less on the brush.

3. It is easier to blend pencil liner than it is to blend gel liner. When attempting to 'blend' the gel liner with shadow, the gel liner kinda flakes. I don't know, maybe the gel liners are not made to be 'blended' to anything else.

4. Gel liner produce very defined lines suitable for cat eyes, smokey eyes and generally any makeup you'll put on at night. For day time, it'll be safer to stick to pencil eyeliner.

5. Generally speaking, gel eyeliner stay on much longer than pencil eyeliner, oily lids or not. But there are ways to make the pencil liner stay just as long.

So, what do you think?

p/s:- for some reason this week I seem to think that I'm fair and have been mixing foundations and concealers to be too fair. Pics turn out like shit in the end with white stuff at my eyebag area. Urg. Time to stop wishing I was fair.

Oh wow, some nice liquid foundation from RMK. Words in the market is that the best foundations are from RMK and Giorgio Armani. And what's the other one? Oh, it's the no colour powder used to set the liquid foundation in place. Guaranteed to suit any skin tone, fairest of fair and darkest of dark.

Hey, I see some other stuff in the bag, what else is there? Freebie! We love freebie! Full size moisturiser from RMK and many many sachets of RMK makeup base that everyone raved over. Wah value!

RMK Liquid Foundation
Handling
RMK liquid foundations do not come in a pump, it is a pour out bottle. In that sense, I would have preferred Giorgio Armani liquid foundation because it uses a pump dispenser.

Texture and usability
RMK liquid foundation is quite watery but is nicely pigmented that one thin layer is enough to cover minor imperfections and uneven skin tone. Easily blended and can be layered on. The effect is smooth looking skin that lasts through the day. Find out what others think about the RMK Liquid Foundation.

RMK No Colour Powder
Handling
RMK No Colour Powder comes in a big pan suitable for the big powder brushes and even puff to set your makeup. Drawback is you have to buy a palette separately to store this because it is a refill pack. I just use the original plastic cover that comes with it.

Texture and usability
Japanese makes the best powder and face products. The RMK No Colour Powder is finely milled and goes on very smooth to set liquid foundation. Face do not look too made up using this powder because it is very fine. On its claim of being suitable for every skin colour, so far I've used it on models with different skin colour and it still works. I have not tried them on really dark models though.

Maybelline Black Eyeshadow

I finally got around to using the Maybelline glittery black-gray-silver palette that I got at for RM 5 at the recent L'Oreal warehouse sale.

This one.

I only used the silver and black (left and right), and to my surprise, it was actually very nicely pigmented and it stayed on. It was also easily blendable with the faux 224 brush that I got. I love it! However, the glitter will not appear obvious and it WILL fall upon application, so be ready with your fan brush. Thumbs up for the staying power because after a crazy night of partying, the eyeshadow remained intact with no creasing.

This is the look that I did using this palette. I simply love black shadow.

Like it?

The trick to wearing black shadow is to blend blend and blend. Pair it with another shadow that is light so that it won't look too gothic. Also, if you're keeping your eyes dark, keep your lips and cheek light. That means no red lipsticks and bright blusher. You'll want to keep the attention on your eyes.

1. Maybelline Color Wear Trio Eye Shadow in Disco Queen-30
2. Shu Uemura Lipstick in 936 (Nude with orangey tinge)
3. RMK liquid foundation.
4. Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Black (top lashline)
5. Makeup Forever Eyeliner in Black (bottom lashline)
6. Fake lashes

Speaking of fake lashes, with so many types of lashes on market now from all over the world, I've gotta say that not all types are suitable and comfortable to wear. I will write on how to identify good pair of lashes soon.

Remove your makeup!

Did you know that if you sleep in makeup you'll affect your skin's health and your skin will only recover 28 days later?

It seems as if a lot of ladies out there do not know how to effectively remove their makeup (ie no traces of makeup left on face or lashline.) Heard someone mention today that she doesn't use makeup because it is difficult to remove them. NOT TRUE!

You only need TWO items to clean your face entirely.

Eye & Lip makeup remover. Pour some on cotton square, press gently against eyelid. Press finger gently along your lashes. Count to 5 and wipe eyelid with cotton square in one slide. I use Loreal Demo-Expertise Gentle Lip & Eye Makeup Remover or Clinique Take the Day Off Makeup Remover for Lids, Lashes and Lips. The former is the affordable choice.

Cream/ oil makeup remover. Dot generous among of cream/oil makeup remover on the peaks of your face (nose, forehead, cheeks, chin) and massage in circular motions to dissolve makeup on your face. Massage for a good 30 seconds and wipe off with tissue or cotton square. I use Eucerin Gentle Cleansing Milk or Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil. The former is the affordable choice.

Then continue with your normal cleansing, toning and moisturising routine. Good luck ya and wear makeup!

Theater makeup - Mousey mousey

Another fast one before I go back to budgeting...

The weekend was fun because we did theater makeup for Mouse Bride. It was quite chaotic at first because we had SO little time to do the makeup but definitely very exciting!

And to be in the midst of so many mice! hahahhaa loved it when they went twitching and making that mouse squeek squeek noise.

Makeup used:-

Kryolan white face paint for base.
Kryolan red + pink for eyebrow and lips
Black gel liner for eyes, whiskers (yes! whiskers!) and nose
Gold & Silver liquid liner for eyes
Dark brown (reddish) for shading to sharpen face to look like mice

VERY THE FUN AND THE CHIKEK. Must do theater makeup more often!!!

Hauls from Loreal Warehouse Sale.

I've been away from blogging for so long, and there are so many things that I want to write on, so right now I'm just so lost! I don't know where to start.

Let's start with my haul from the recent Loreal warehouse sale. I got 13 items, ONLY FOR RM 133!!! What a bargain! Here they are. Eyeshadows, mascaras, pressed powder and shampoo. A bit regret that I did not get few more bottles of the shampoo.

ok... show some close up. I absolutely love the Loreal eyeshadow duo in green. Fucking lovely! Only RM5.

I really like this black white and gray palette from Maybelline. RM 5. There was a cardboard box filled only with this palette. Haven't tried it out, but I really love the black shade with glitter.

Pressed powder to set liquid and cream foundation.

And mascaras! The Double Extension mascara from Loreal is DA BOMB. I love it because it's super duper black and it does not smudge. Normal retail price is RM 46, but I got it at RM20 each!!! woweeeeeeee junior juice!! Also bought Lash Discovery from Maybelline. The brush is really small so it can be used for corner lashes for chinky eyes, and also bottom lashes.

I think the thing about buying from warehouse sale is that you gotta check the manufacturing dates for the products. Some items (eyeliners, lipliners, lipsticks) were dated back from 2004! That's FOUR BLOODY YEARS AGO! Yes, they sell aging goods, but there are also some good buys, like items to be cleared off. eg. the GongLi Loreal Eyeshadow + Lipstick set! (RM 30 - another great buy)

I wouldn't wanna put those aging stuff on my face, or even near my eyes. Products with moisture such as lipliner, eyeliner, lipsticks, foundations cannot tahan so long, so I wouldn't wanna waste my money on such items. Powder products tend to be safer buys. So yah. I heard there was a Shu Uemura warehouse sale weekend that was crazy packed, but I didn't go. But it's okay lah, got Estee one coming up!!! Save money to sapu everything there!!!

Ahhhh what a relief... finally got the brushes all cleaned up!

What do I use? Johnson baby shampoo in strawberry. It's yummy, it's cheap, and most importantly, it works!

After cleaning, use towel to squeeze out the excess water. Lay on dry towel. Don't forget to reshape the hair to normal after cleaning. Feel free to turn them around to avoid random hair from straying everywhere.

Green eyeshadow with nude lips.

Green is a very sexy vixenish eye colour or 'yam' in Cantonese. I once put it on a classmate and everyone thought she looked very haopor. haha As for me, I like how the warm green matches the warm nude lip colour (with an orange tinge to it).

I got a new hairdo and there's a strip of red somewhere, so decided to go with green for the contrast.

Somehow the look doesn't look complete without visible lashes. I've got desperately short lashes but I know someone with lashes around my length made her lashes really long with the help of 3 mascara. She spends 20 minutes every time just on her mascara. Respect!!

Was mentally listing down the products that I used to create the look. Most of them are from Shu Uemura, my xmas presents from my sifu!

Beautilicious Wonder Eyes - Instant Eyeshadow

Have you seen the 'Wonder Eyes' instant eyeshadow from Beautilicious? Instant eyeshadow that even a newbie in makeup can apply, supposedly.

Looks interesting, want to try it out to see how easy to use it is. Imagine, just press it on your eye, slide, blend and *suddenly* you got gorgeous eye makeup. Sounds too good to be true...

The cost per use is a bit expensive at RM 12.90 promotional price. If you buy 5 pairs you can get a MAC or a Shu Uemura eyeshadow single already, and that you can use for a million times. But then again, I guess they are charging the price for the lack of skills huh.

- Beautilicious is a range of makeup made in Malaysia. It isn't cheap, price is slightly above Maybelline and Loreal, the usual drugstore brands. I recall seeing a lot of gorgeous palettes. The eyeshadows are quite pigmented too.

Loreal Telescopic Mascara

Back for a toot today.

Got the newly released Loreal Telescopic mascara about a week back. The mascara looked promising in the photo with the special brush in pink so my sister and I were anticipating it greatly. Finally got it and the verdict is...

Only use if you have thick lashes as it won't thicken it .
Nice liquidy textured mascara, won't go on too thick.
Brush has plasticky pokey stuff that pokes the hell out of your lashline = pain pain pain
Does what it promises - non clampy lashes after application.

Buy or don't buy? It's up to you. I've only used it once because it doesn't do anything for my sparse lashes. Won't use it ever.

Crappy busy.

I've been really crappy busy and will be crappy busy again. Posting will be erratic. On the bright side, I got 18 new lipstick shades (Clinique, Estee Lauder) when I was in Ipoh. My makeup train is more complete now. I also bought two shades of powder eyeshadow from Revecen. Orange and Silver. The Silver looks great. Perhaps can try the two colours in a combi.

SKII Aqua Physics Range.

herrow herrow... have you guys tried out the SKII Aqua Physics range yet? I was told that this range is made especially for dehydrated skin, a skin type that is very common especially in tropical climate countries like Malaysia. Basically dehydrated skin is skin that is thirsty, but does not necessarily mean dry. You can have oily dehydrated skin. Oily on the outside, dry on the inside. Mine is.

Anyhow the range is made up of a Serum and Gel Moisturiser. The serum is in a bottle, while the gel moisturiser is in the jar. I don't really fancy products stored in jars, it's not very hygienic to use your fingers and I find it so troublesome to scoop it out with a spatula all the time. For some reason the SA told me that the serum is to be used as toner. Not sure how right she is.

I tried out the gel moisturiser on my hand. It has an extremely slippery texture and takes quite a while to be absorbed, so a little amount will do. First impression is that it will be very hydrating, which is a good thing. I got the free trial and will use it on my face. Will post the result one of these days.

Both items retail at RM 205 each. Quite affordable for SKII product, I think. Perhaps this one is for the mass market, since its marketing targets those who 'play hard' and 'work hard'. Am sure every female fits into either one of the two category. :P

Shu Uemura Face Architect Remodelling Cream Foundation.

Tried out the Shu Uemura Face Architect Remodelling Foundation. It is basically a CREAM foundation, so the texture is thicker compared to liquid foundation. The name sounds super high tech now, doesn't it? Anyways it means that you can layer on the foundation to change your facial landscape.

Not easily blended using fingers, so I applied the cream foundation on using a FOUNDATION BRUSH. Very nice and easy to use with foundation brush. And you will need just a small bit of foundation, maybe a 5 cents coin (Malaysian) size for your entire face. The whole jar will last you forever.

The Face Architect cream foundation comes in a jar, so Shu Uemura included a mini plastic spatula for you to scoop em out for hygiene purposes. Nice one there Shu. Just don't forget to clean your spatula before dipping em in.
How to use?

1. Wash spatula.
2. Dip into jar, scoop about 5 cents coin (Malaysian) size, and deposit onto back of palm.
3. Dip the tip of foundation brush to pick up a bit of foundation.
4. Using small strokes, blend all over face from middle to outer face.
5. Use fingers to press foundation in.
6. Set with powder. (if you have dry skin, you can choose to skip this step.)

Funny though, this product is not sold on the Shu Uemura US site.

Don't my eyes look bigger here? Ignore the eyebags because this was done after many many hours of non-sleep.

Main product used to make eyes look bigger:- Eyeliner.
To complete the look:- False lashes.

Used:-
Gold cream base
Brown shadow
Black shadow
Black liner
False lashes
Mascara

How:-
Frame eyes to make them longer and thicker using eyeliner. Stick false lashes on.
