The Malaysian National Paintball League (MY-NPL) 2012 Event No 2 was held in Melacca, Malaysia over the weekend. Players from Singapore, Bahrain, Australia, Japan as well as local players made up the many teams competing for a podium place in Divisions 1 through to 4. This was the second MY-NPL event featuring the new Race-to formats for Divisions 1 to 3 and some teams showed they had adapted well to the new format and for others, it was their first experience.

Competition was close in all divisions with the race-to format providing many chances for teams to claw back lost points to even up matches. The field was slick on Saturday but provided few opportunities to dominate from either side of the field, with many teams living and surviving from their back line. Sunday the rain came, which slowed down play a little and made it a little harder for some teams to play as quickly as they would have liked to. In Division 1 DRX proved too strong for the undermanned Part Crisis who did well to make the finals. Fellow Perth team Killswitch were 3rd defeating Votolocos in the other Finals for 3rd/4th. Here are the final results for all divisions:

Division 1
1st - DRX (Selangor)
2nd - Perth Crisis (Australia)
3rd - Killswitch (Australia)
4th - Votolocos - (Kedah)

Division 2
1st - Street Mobsters (Melaka)
2nd - EJPC (Cyberjaya)
3rd - Dark Knight (Selangor)
4th - Gladiators (Terengganu)

Division 3
1st - X-Hoo (Selangor)
2nd - Hooligans (Selangor)
3rd - 2AM (Selangor)
4th - Dark Knight Legion (Selangor)

Division 4
1st - Mad Bunnies (Selangor)
2nd - Apache Zero (Selangor)
3rd - Mong Cha Cha (Melaka)
4th - Sandstorm (Melaka)

He's playing for the Vancouver based team Joint Force, a newly formed team that will be playing NPPL Division 1. This is pretty amazing considering that Ivan only started playing paintball a little over 4 years ago. When he's in Asia he plays for Singapore team Red Sevens but for the past few years he's been in Vancouver, Canada studying at the University of British Columbia.

Paintball News Asia will be catching up with Ivan after NPPL to get some feedback about his NPPL experience.
PALS Bangkok 2012

The first leg of the PALS series was held in Bangkok over 3 days last 1-4 March 2012. Teams from across Asia and from as far as Canada, and Iran travelled to the land of smiles to play paintball. The 4 day event started with Pro player Thomas Taylor conducting a paintball clinic on the Thursday and other non-paintball activities like the launch of UTB in Asia on Friday night, giving paintballers something to watch in the evenings. With Bangkok presenting its standard high humidity and some beautiful sunshine, the 3 days of competition was strenuous on all teams. With the implementation of extended Race-to formats in both Division 3 and Division 2, all teams were tested to their limits.

In the Division 1 quarter finals many of the highly regarded contenders were sent packing including local favourites Infernal and Datis from Iran. In Division 2 Rockstar Canada ended the tournament as Champions without losing a match the entire tournament and having reportedly shot more paint than their Division 1 senior team Shockwave Canada.

All in all the event was another great success and kudos goes to the organisers for their hospitality and attention to detail. The fields were perfect and aside from the slight problem of collapsing scaffolding, the event finished with everyone smiling (and in some cases very drunk).

Here are the final results of PALS Bangkok 2012:

Division 1:
Champions: Shockwave Canada
2nd: Destroyer (Thailand)
3rd: Demonz (Malaysia)
4th: STK (Australia)

Division 2:
Champions: Rockstar Canada
2nd: GAS (Guam All Stars - USA)
3rd: Arowana (Thailand)
4th: Siam-X (Thailand/Malaysia)

Division 3:
Champions: Golden Dragons (Malaysia)
2nd: Sabil (Malaysia)
3rd: Sattahip Hunsa (Thailand)
4th: Tension (Australia)

Image courtesy of Look Left Pictures
