Painted Fingers

Abstract - Colourplay

2012-11-07T02:26:00.001-08:00

Ok, I am back painting again, hurray. Had a dreadful block, but at last I feel like picking up the brushes again. Mixed media on watercolour paper.

Summertime

2012-03-25T23:21:00.000-07:00

This abstract reminds me of summer colours. Done in acrylic on gesso'd watercolour paper.

Study, Swan River

2012-03-25T04:00:00.001-07:00

I've been working on doing underpaintings in watercolour before I pastel paint. This study was done on watercolour paper, not entirely satisfactory for pastel despite the underpainting. Fun playing with new technique.

Abstracts

I must apologise for the lack of entries for just about all of January, it has been so hot and I have not been able to work in my outside studio. From the painting below you will probably guess that I got a new book for Christmas and have been out spending more Christmas gift money on gels and mediums. One very hot day I decided to start playing with my acrylics and mediums and came up with this little, as yet unfinished, abstract.

The photo is badly light affected on the left hand side, I can see with these gloss mediums I need to be more careful when taking photos. I am quite pleased with the balance, but I have no lights and darks and need to work a bit more on this to get a better composition. I am loving the effects you can get, though, with the use of these gels, etc.

Seasonal Greetings

Happy Christmas one and all. May you have the best of days with family and friends.

Fire! (amended)

2011-12-19T15:43:00.000-08:00

I did some more work on the fire painting and think it looks better. The original painting just sort of happened because I had bushfire on my mind. A big bush fire backed round behind the town where my son lives and came a bit close for comfort, they were unharmed, but it was a close call. Strange how the mind can work when you are just doodling with pastels and paper. For sale $50 p@p extra.

More Poppies

2011-12-16T00:16:00.000-08:00

'Purple Poppies, painted in acrylic on canvas board with tissue paper stuck to the board. This simulates the veining and delicacy of the poppies and is quite delightful. Painting for sale, with or without frame, POA I seem to have been stuck in a non creative mood just lately, suspect Christmas is getting to me! However I bought some new pastels yesterday and hope they will help me get going again. These creative blocks are most stressful.

Poppies

2011-12-11T15:59:00.001-08:00

I did some more work on the fire painting yesterday, but am still not satisfied. Do you think I am one of those artists who will die with stacks of 'unfinished' paintings in my studio?! So as not to disappoint my readers I have put one of my older paintings up. This one is in acrylic, framed, and is for sale. POA

Fire!

2011-12-10T17:05:00.001-08:00

I've decided to do some more work on this painting. This morning seems a favourable time as it is cool and my studio is outside.

Red Centre

2011-12-09T11:44:00.001-08:00

I had not done pastels for a few years and suddenly felt this image would be right to paint in pastels. I was pleased enough with it to get it framed. Red Centre is for sale, please contact me if you are interested.

Artist Statement Generator

2011-12-09T04:00:00.001-08:00

Don't you hate it when the exhibition you enter wants an artist's statement? I have a couple I have hassled and worried over saved on my computer. This website makes the whole thing much more fun - http://www.artybollocks.com/#abg_full You'll never have to worry about your statement again!

Fire!

2011-12-05T23:45:00.001-08:00

There were three huge and out of control fires in the SW of our State, all driven by high winds and high temperatures. One was travelling along the coast so I was a little concerned but felt that my son and his family were safe. But one which was more inland veered towards the coast and came a little too close for comfort to my son's house. Somehow this painting did not start out as a fire picture, but it just happened.

Not completely idle

2011-12-04T13:23:00.001-08:00

I had a week of Christmas lunches last week, well, just two to be exact! It had turned hot so at the last minute I decided to make myself a skirt from some cream linen I had in my stash. Just had enough linen over to make a bag and I decided to crazy patch the front of the bag for fun and a bit of glitz. I think I succeeded, no hand embroidery, but laces, braids and brooches substituted nicely.

Not painting

2011-11-26T16:59:00.001-08:00

I spent yesterday at our local agricultural show grooming for my show jumping daughter. Was a very tiring day with an early start and a late finish considering she only jumped in two events.

South Western National Park

2011-11-22T23:14:00.001-08:00

Ok, I eventually finished this landscape and now have to get it framed. I very often walk around a painting until I am satisfied it is finished. Has been very hot today so have not been outside working on a pastel abstract. For sale, $Au50 plus p&p.th

Serendipity

2011-11-21T00:32:00.001-08:00

I finished this abstract today, it took a while to work out how to complete the painting, but at last it is done. Pastel on watercolour paper, treated with gel pumice.

2011-11-19T21:55:00.001-08:00

I had such fun painting this mixed media landscape. Acrylic and oil pastel on canvas board, 12" x 18". For sale, $20 plus p & P.

More Seniors' Week art and craft

2011-11-12T13:32:00.001-08:00

2011-11-12T00:57:00.001-08:00

The public had a ball at our art and craft display, I spent hours talking to people about all of the entries and sold some stuff, alas not mine. Here is a photo of some of the teddies in the display.

2011-11-11T13:03:00.001-08:00

Two Ourback Australian paintings for Seniors Week.

Seniors' Week Art and Craft Display

2011-11-10T23:46:00.001-08:00

I have played at being a display artist this afternoon, hence no painting today. Just a small picture of some of the stained glass.

WIP Landscape

2011-11-05T03:48:00.000-07:00

I have been working on the tonal distancing and also the dark tree mass on the right hand side of the painting. Am still not sure if it is too dark, I also need to lighten the sky a little. Have been walking round the painting for a day or so and am still unsure how to proceed. Am very close to binning it.

World Diabetes Day postcard Exchange

2011-11-02T03:05:00.000-07:00

I actually cheated a bit with this one, I had been playing with watercolour and oil pastel and thought it would make a nice background for the blue diabetes circle. I used my coloured pencils to deepen the colours, added the blue circles and have the postcard all ready to send to my partner in USA.

WIP Landscape

2011-11-01T04:51:00.000-07:00

I have been struggling to get photos from my camera to the computer, then trying to discover how to edit them, but here is a landscape I have been working on, it needs quite a bit more work, hopefully I will be able to do something to it tomorrow.

Computers!!!

2011-10-30T19:49:00.000-07:00

My computer died on me and I have just managed to get to the repair guy,. It is, alas, terminally sick so I have bought a new little bright red laptop. Should brighten up my days, well love the colour and love playing with new toys too. Have not painted over the weekend, was so busy with the garden and so exhausted once I had finished digging up grass and putting down mulch. Promise to mend my ways now.
