I’m wondering if this is a standard Mitsubishi colour as I don’t recall seeing it before. Answers in the comments box below please!

He’s got a pretty chunky bull bar on the front and I like the sticker in the back window - “Jeep Recovery Vehicle”

It’s a later model to mine, with the blister arches. I quite like the nudge bar thingy on this one too and lack of chrome which is something I’d like to head towards sometime soon.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings! Back to Jonas and his experience of how off-roaders are viewed in his rather extreme part of the world. Here’s what he said:

I recently bought a Mitsubishi Pajero 2.8 TD long version.  Its blue, and in fact it looks very similar to yours, just longer.  It has 33″ tiers, which is fine for travelling in the summer all around Iceland (also the mountains, the middle part of the country).  However, its not enough for safari tours in snow on the claciers during winter time.  For that they jeep guys here have 35, 36, 38, 44 and all up to 49″ tiers.  They dont really call my Pajero a jeep, its only 33″ tiers

Not in the best of shape this old girl, but with 255000 Kms on the clock, she’s not doing so bad!

I know of a few Pajeros with more miles on them, but not many. Just shows how long these cars can last if properly maintained. I’d love to think mine was still going after that distance.

This Pajero has also had a very interesting life. I’ll let Michael tell you in his own words:

In July 1990 I bought a Pajero tax free from Brussels and it has since been to Equatorial Guinea in West Africa all over Europe to El Salvador, Moscow, Moldova and Azerbaijan now back in France and 19 years later I still have it and it still runs well! Without doubt the best vehicle that I have ever owned. Very few problems over the years. In December it comes up for the Annual French MOT and the steering will have to be repaired. It has been such an excellent work horse that I am reluctant to scrap it particularly due to its history. How many owners have had their cars stolen by a Head of State? It happened to me when the President of Equatorial Guinea decided that he wanted my car and just offloaded it form a shipping container in 1991 I got it back. But that is another story…

I didn’t know of anything obviously wrong with the car apart from a very minor niggle - needed some new windscreen wiper blades. So I got a new pair yesterday. After picking my lads up from school we got to work on giving the old car a good wash. I know it’s not going to make a difference to whether it passes or not, but I always do it anyway!

And that was all the preparation work I did. Not much eh?!! Now the only thing I was worried about was those big fat tyres I fitted last September. They do stick out at the sides a tiny amount and I wouldn’t have been surprised at all to have it fail on that. It’s a common problem for people fitting bigger tyres to have to add some wheel arch extensions.

Anyway, I sat eagerly by the phone all day waiting for the call which came through at 14:30 - PASSED! It’s always a great feeling and especially when the car is 14 years old. So that’s 2 years in a row it’s sailed through. I did however receive an advisory notice this year telling me that the centre piece of the exhaust had a slight leak. Something for me to worry about next year unless it opens up before. But it’s not been a bad day!

So here we have a fantastic example of that sent in by Ad van Drunen. You can see from the photos that the car has gone through a few changes over the years. Brilliant photos too. You really get the atmosphere of the desert!

Seriously, I’d love something like this parked outside my house!

I don’t know how common this colour of 2.8 TD Pajero is, but I’ve certainly not seen many like this. Looks great though and I’ll let Bwiko tell you about it in his own words:

Well I bought my beast in 2006 for about $2,000/- and I have been happy with
it ever since. Yeah it was a bargain but this fellow was living the country
in hurry and bam I got it;

It’s a 4-cylinder turbo charged and it runs like hell and when the rough
gets tough…..it’s in there…I have pushed it and it performs to my
wildest expectations knowing the African roads and all…

It has been a joy of my short life I would say.

Apparently he’d always fancied an off-roader and when his wife suggested a people carrier for a second car, he didn’t need another invitation!

He also mentions that the site has been useful to him in the past and I certainly hope I can make it more so in the future.

Anyway, thanks for sharing Daz. I must say that Pajero looks to be in very good condition for its age.

And this is no ordinary caravan, he’s currently converting it. Here are the specs so far:

5 cameras (1x rear Paj , 1x front Caravan , 1x rear  , 1x view over door area for nights & 1x Black water waste (so I can see at what point to stop when dumping waste )
7′ GPS  floating in from  dash & 10.2 inch (switching) camera monitor on drivers sunvisor Etc …
that way I am able to see the que of traffic behind me , need it with that thing hanging off my Arse ( Ooooops …posterior )

Oh did I mention my pull down 69″ screen & DLP projector & computer desk in the van , yea I know ..real overkill …typical Edwin ..nothing 1/2 measure
