PCB Chief Executive Faisal Hasnain: “We are pleased that the Cricket Australia Board has formally approved their side’s five-week tour itinerary and confirmed that their best available players will visit Pakistan for the first time in 24 years. We are really excited to host Pat Cummins and his players, and look forward to a competitive series that will comprise three Tests, three ODIs and a T20I.”

“While Australia will arrive at the back of strong performances in their home series against England, our team has been playing excellent cricket resulting in our players sweeping the ICC Awards. This braces for a keenly contested series, something that the fans will thoroughly enjoy and remember for a long time.”

The schedule has been revised to ease logistical and operational challenges as well as to avoid Pakistan Day rehearsals, which usually commence in Islamabad in the second week of March.

The two cricket boards have also agreed that the Australia Test side will complete their isolation in Australia, before arriving in Islamabad on 27 February on a chartered flight. After a one-day room isolation, they will hold training sessions at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

Australia’s white-ball players are expected to arrive in Lahore on 24 March following isolation in Australia. After a one-day isolation upon arrival, they will integrate with other members of the side and travel to Islamabad for the first ODI in Rawalpindi on 29 March.

The Tests will be part of the ICC World Test Championship, while the ODIs are linked to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League from which the top eight sides, including hosts India, will qualify directly for the 2023 50-over World Cup.

Shaheen took 78 wickets in 36 internationals at an average of 22.20 with best bowling figures of 6/51.
The tall Pakistani quick was on fire throughout 2021, knocking some of the best batters over across all three formats of the game. He especially had a year to remember in Tests and T20Is, reaching his peak during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in UAE where he impressed one and all with his sheer speed and skills.

He would take seven wickets in six matches during the tournament in Pakistan’s run to the semi-final. He ruled the shortest format throughout the calendar year, scalping 23 wickets in 21 matches with his death bowling improving by leaps and bounds.

Overall, he claimed 47 wickets in only nine matches at a staggering average of 17.06.

A high-pressure encounter against India in Dubai beckoned in October. The T20 World Cup tournament opener for both sides with the history well and truly against Pakistan. But Afridi’s opening burst changed it all and evoked audible gasps from one and all at the wizardry on display.

He would first trap Rohit Sharma with a late in-dipper. This would be followed by the dismissal of KL Rahul, who saw his stumps knocked over with another peach of a delivery. India simply could not recover from this, slumping to their first-ever defeat against Pakistan at a World Cup. Later on, he would also get the prized scalp of Virat Kohli in the death overs.

Pakistan Super League 2022: What Has Happened So Far?

In the Group Stage of the competition, the standout team was the Multan Sultans by quite a distance. Each team played ten matches in the Group Stage, playing the other five franchises twice, and the Multan Sultans only lost one of them, finishing top of the table with 18 points, six points above the Lahore Qalandars in second place. They won their Play-Off match quite easily by 28 runs, and will now compete for the title in the final on Sunday the 27th of February. 

It is no surprise that they have been performing so well and have made it to the final because they have two of the top runscorers in the tournament – Mohammad Rizwan has scored 532 runs with an average of 76.00 from 11 matches, while Shan Masood has score 459 runs with an average of 41.72 from the 11 matches that he has played. Anyone who has done a bit of PSL betting on the Multan Sultans over the last few weeks or so would have made quite a tidy profit, that is for sure. 

Another team that performed very well in the Group Stage is the Lahore Qalandars, who were the only team to get a win against the Multan Sultans, and it was a big win at that. The Lahore Qalandars scored 182 runs from their 20 overs, thanks mostly to a wonderful 60 from the competition’s top batsman, Fakhar Zaman – he has notched up 584 runs from 11 matches at an average of 53.09, including one magnificent century. Throughout the Group Stage, they won six matches and lost four to finish with 12 points on the board. They are not yet in the final though because they have to play an Eliminator match against Islamabad United. 

Islamabad United managed to sneak into the fourth and final play-off spot on Net Run Rate. They managed to amass just eight points from the 10 matches that they played, but it was enough, and they now have a chance to make it to the final. There is one person that they can thank for their progression throughout the tournament, and this is Shadab Khan, who has been the best bowler in the tournament, collecting 18 wickets at an average of 10.00 from the seven innings that he has bowled in.

The other spot in the Play-Offs went to Peshawar Zalmi, who finished third in the table with six wins and four defeats to their name. They only missed out on second place due to the fact that they had a poorer Net Run Rate. They have had a couple of stand out performers throughout the competition, and when it comes to their batting, Shoaib Malik has been their best performer with 401 runs from 11 games at an average of 44.55. In the bowling department, Salman Irshad has been a bit of a revolution, collecting 15 wickets from eight matches at an average of 17.60. They will not have a chance to improve on these records and you will not be able to do any more online cricket betting on them though since they were knocked out in the Play-Offs by Islamabad United.

Who Will Win this year’s PSL?

So, with just two matches left of the PSL 2022 schedule, we already know one of the teams that will be competing in the final, and that is the Multan Sultans. The team that they will be competing against in the final will be one of Lahore Qalandars or Islamabad United. 

Obviously, in order to make match predictions on who will win the PSL, we need to know who will be playing in the final.  Since the Eliminator 2 will be played on Friday afternoon/evening, we need to predict the result of this one too. We do not think that there is much of a difference in the teams’ batting strength, but we do feel that the Qalandars have been too reliant on Fakar Zaman throughout the competition – if he fails, then they might struggle to post a solid score to win the game. Islamabad United have a quality bowling attack, and we think this will end up being the difference between the two sides. So, with all of this in mind, we think that the final will be between the Multan Sultans and Islamabad United. 

To be honest, we do not think it matters who makes it to the final to play the Multan Sultans because we think that the Sultans will be too strong for either of the two teams that are left. Yes, the Qalandars managed to beat the Sultans in the Group Stage, but then they met again in the Play-Offs and the Sultans won the match with considerable ease.  

The Multan Sultans won this title for the first time in 2021 and given the way that they have performed throughout this competition, if we were to make a bet on cricket online, we would have to put our money on the Sultans to retain their title. The 65-year-old also made some strong accusations against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and said that he expected everything to be fair and based on merit once former captain Imran Khan had become the Prime Minister of the country. He is also unhappy with the dual role of Misbah-ul-Haq.

Khan said, “When Imran Khan became the Prime Minister, I was expecting that the decisions in PCB will be taken on merit but that does not seem the case. Our cricket is derailing from the right track as there is no consistency in the national team’s performance.”

“There is a lack of accountability with Misbah as the team’s head coach-cum chief selector. Who will you hold responsible when the head coach fields a side which he had selected himself?” he added.

However, Mohsin Khan had words of praise for Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam, who has earned T20I captaincy on the basis of consistent performances in international cricket for quite some time now.

He said, “Babar has continued to perform well in all three formats despite the additional responsibility of being the captain of the T20I side. He is a disciplined player and a role model for younger players in the country.”

The world’s health crisis has cast doubt over the men’s T20 World Cup, slated to run from October 18 until November 15 in Australia.

Uncertainty clouds so many elements of life and limitations on international travel loom as a particularly big challenge for the 16-team event, depending on how much the coronavirus continues to spread.

Speculation is rife in India the T20 World Cup could be postponed or cancelled, but at this stage the International Cricket Council (ICC) have instead said they are in a holding pattern.

As with the Olympic Games, things could change quickly.

Nick Hockley, chief executive of the T20 World Cup organising committee, points to the French Open and other major sporting events aiming for a September start as cause for some optimism.

“We’re wanting to give ourselves the best possible chance of going ahead as planned, so there’s no imminent or quick decision,” Hockley told AAP.

“Hopefully it’s all resolved and we go ahead. In the event that it isn’t completely resolved, we are looking at all the different scenarios. Which is only prudent.

“They are collective discussions involving the organising committee, the ICC, all the members. We will keep everyone updated if anything changes.

“But for now, we’re just under seven months away … we’ve got a bit of time.”

The tournament had been near-perfectly placed in Australia’s sporting calendar, after the popular football seasons come to an end and before the traditional summer of cricket begins, to maximise interest.

But the postponed AFL and NRL seasons will now almost certainly last long beyond September if they resume.

The World Cup has contracts, including exclusivity lead-up periods, with the MCG and all its venues.

But the battle for TV viewers and crowds, presuming the COVID-19 pandemic has eased to a point where fans are able to attend matches, will be intense.

“We really feel for the winter codes, obviously they’re doing it very tough,” Hockley said.

“In the event they have extended seasons … we still think the World Cup is a really strong proposition that might not come here again for 10 or 20 years.

“People love a World Cup, cricket is Australia’s national sport. We’re playing all around the country at venues that are some of the best in the world … and T20 is the format that appeals to the broadest possible demographic.

“We’re very encouraged already by the take up in terms of ticket sales.”

Pat Cummins feels the World Cup should be prioritised ahead of the Indian Premier League this year, even if that means he misses out on a contract worth 155 million Indian rupees (approximately $A3.4million) with Kolkata Knight Riders.

“The T20 World Cup is something we’ve spoken about for the best part of two or three years,” Cummins said.

“A home World Cup … the ODI World Cup in 2015 was absolutely a career highlight for me and I wasn’t even playing.”

We are the title defenders and our team and the combination is pretty much the same as the last year. The boys are preparing hard and are looking in good shape despite returning to cricket after some time, which makes me confident that we will be able to defend our title.

“Two youngsters I am looking forward to making a mark in this tournament are Zeeshan Malik, who played with me at the U19 level, and Haider Ali, who could not play last year but is all set to play a vital role in our team this season.”

Sindh captain Sarfaraz Ahmed: “I think in our team, Sharjeel Khan will play a key role. He is a dashing batsman and stroke player and when he plays well he makes a match one-sided. In T20 format, you need to perform in both batting and bowling departments, we have balance and experience in both departments.

“We would aim to gain and then sustain momentum with an eye on the semi-finals; T20 is a kind of format where momentum is the key and if we get that early we can go a long way in the tournament.”

Southern Punjab captain Shan Masood: “We are well-aware that this tournament is going to be highly competitive as all the top T20 players in the country are participating in it. With this tournament being played on double-league basis, what matters the most is how the teams finish and carry the momentum from here to the Rawalpindi-leg.

“I am very happy with the core of our team, which might not include big names but comprise youngsters who will be empowered and will be designated responsibilities in all departments. Our coach Abdur Rehman has put in a lot of thought in selecting this team, which provides us ample options depending on what side we play in which stadium. I am very confident that if we stick to our plans, we will play the final in Rawalpindi.”

Northern were 24 for one after three overs when 19-year-old Haider, who made his Pakistan debut in the last of the three T20Is against England earlier this month, joined Zeeshan at the crease.

The two batsmen added 180 runs in 14.1 overs that lifted the defending champions to 242 for three, the second highest score in a T20 innings in the history of the National T20 Cup, after Shadab Khan elected to bat first.

Haider smashed five sixes and seven fours in his blazing 90 off 48 balls.

Reflecting on his performance, Haider told pcb.com.pk: “It is always a great feeling to start off a tournament on a high and this innings has provided me a lot of confidence. Though I am a little disappointed on missing out what would have been my maiden century in T20 cricket, I thoroughly enjoyed the partnership with Zeeshan Malik. Our decision to bat first paid dividends as it allowed us to make the most of the true bounce on offer.

“My aim is to now build on this start and play a vital role in helping my side defend the title.”

Zeeshan, the 23-year-old right-handed batsman, smashed a 47-ball 77, which was studded with eight fours and three sixes, before Junaid Khan, who took two wickets for 44 runs in four overs, bowled him.

Asif Ali struck three fours and a six in 10 balls during his 23 not out.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were dealt an early blow as Mohammad Nawaz, left-arm orthodox, bowled Fakhar Zaman on the fourth ball of the innings. By the first ball of the seventh over, they had lost their captain Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Hafeez, which reduced them to 46 for three.

Problems amplified for them as Shoaib Malik fell in the 13^th over after scoring a 19-ball 20, following which Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lost track of the run chase.

Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Nawaz took two wickets apiece for 34 and 37 runs, while Musa Khan dismissed Mohammad Mohsin (14 off 10), Shaheen Shah Afridi (0) and Usman Khan Shinwari (0) in the last over.

At the end of the 20 overs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were 163 for nine. They have a chance to avenge this defeat on 16 October when the two sides meet again at the Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi.

Breaking: Umar Akmal has been suspended by PCB under Anti-Corruption Code. The Pakistan Cricket Board Thursday suspended Umar Akmal with immediate effect under Article 4.7.1 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code, which means he cannot take part in any cricket-related activity pending the investigation being carried out by PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit. The PCB has decided not make any further comments due to the ongoing investigation. However, sources privy to the matter told Dunya News that Umar Akmal has been suspended over doubts of possible spot-fixing during the Global T20 Canada tournament.

It has been learnt that the 29-year-old held meetings with suspicious persons despite PCB’s prohibition. Furthermore, Umar Akmal’s participation in a private ceremony is also doubtful. The governing body has confiscated Umar Akmal’s mobile phones for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Quetta Gladiators are allowed to apply for Umar Akmal’s replacement in the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020. The defending champions will take on two-time former winners Islamabad United in the opening match, which will commence later today at 9pm (PST).

Article 4.7.1 read as: Where either (a) the PCB decides to charge a Participant with an offence under this Anti-Corruption Code; or (b) the PCB considers that there are other exceptional circumstances relevant to a Participant (for example, where any relevant police authority has arrested and/or charged a Participant with an offence under any relevant criminal law in respect of facts or circumstances that may also constitute an offence under this Anti-Corruption Code), it, shall have the discretion, in circumstances where it considers that the integrity of the sport could otherwise be seriously undermined, to Provisionally Suspend the Participant pending the Anti-Corruption Tribunal’s determination of whether he/she has committed an offence. Any decision to Provisionally Suspend the Participant will be communicated to the Participant in writing, with a copy sent at the same time to the ICC and, where applicable, the National Cricket Federation to which the Participant is affiliated.
