Bocconi Scholarship for International Students - Undergraduate for the AY 2012-2013

Bocconi University offers up to 40 need-based scholarships to international students enrolling in Bachelor Programs or the Combined Bachelor and Master Program at Bocconi. The awarding of the scholarship also takes into consideration scholastic performances of the students.

The Scholarship consist of full tuition waiver worth approximately €11.000 per year for a maximum of 3 academic years (for Bachelor’s programs) or 5 academic years ( for the Bachelor’s and Master of Science in Law program). The renewal of the scholarship is subject to meeting merit criteria. Scholarship applications must be submitted by the same deadline as that of Bocconi on-line admission’s application as stated below.

EMEA is a scholarship programme for students on undergraduate, master, doctoral and post-doctoral level as well as for university staff in academic or administrative positions, financed by the European Commission.

Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki invites applications for

2 DOCTORAL STUDENT POSITIONS; for a fixed term from 1 September 2012 to 31 December 2014 (or upon agreement).

An appointee to the position of Doctoral Student shall hold a second-cycle degree and have an approved research proposal. Other requirements shall include the ability and motivation, as demonstrated in previous degree studies or otherwise, to pursue postgraduate studies and a doctoral degree according to the study plan and research proposal. An appointee to a position at the University shall hold the kind of education, experience and language proficiency necessary to successfully complete the duties of the position. When filling a teaching and research position, foreign citizens, non-native Finnish citizens or citizens who have not been educated in Finnish or Swedish may be exempted from the Finnish and Swedish language requirement of the Government Decree on Universities without a separate application.

The salary will be based on levels 1- 4 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The salary range will be between EUR 1 716,53€ and 3 451,58€ per month depending on the qualifications and previous experience of the appointee. The appointment will initially be for a trial period of four months. All standard pension benefits and occupational health care are provided for university employees.

Queen Mary University of London has announced scholarships under Pakistan Capacity Building Scholarships, whereby full tuition fees for full time PhD study will be offered for varied fields including Biological & Chemical Sciences, Computer Sc, Electonic Engg, Mathematical Science, Physics etc.

Following are eligible for said programme :

- Applicants must be Pakistani/AJK nationals who are currently studying or working at an institution recognised by the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan.
- Candidates must have a minimum of sixteen years of education (MSc, MA, MBA, ME, MS, B.E / BSc (Engg), M.B.B.S or equivalent) in a relevant field.
- Students with MS level qualifications and research experience will be at an advantage.
- Candidates should have graduated within the last 2 years.
- Candidates should have first division marks throughout their academic career.
- Candidates must meet Queen Mary’s standard English requirements - IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
- Candidates must be able to support themselves financially either through personal finance or through support from their institution. UKBA guidelines state that living expenses in central London are £9,600 per year.

Last date for applications is 1st June 2011.

The Higher Education Commission is being chopped up and a new body is being constituted namely Comission for Standard of Higher Education... The Chairman of Implementation Commission, Mr. Raza Rabbani has spoke in Senate today regarding devolution of the Higher Education Commission to provinces...

It has been apprehended that the degrees of Pakistan will not be recognized abroad, the standards of higher education would be drastically drowned, millions of dollars of foreign funding for higher educaiton will be stopped, scholarships will be stopped and universities will submerge in case the HEC is chopped....

The Higher Education Commission was established in September 2002 as a regulatory body of higher eduction, in lieu of the University Grants Commission with the purpose to lay down and formulate procedures, policies and guiding principles for improvement of higher education sector in the country. As per eighteenth constitutional amendment amedment's point 101, following clauses have been inserted in Part II of Federal Legislative Lists (Schedule IV to the Constitution) [18th amedment can be found at http://www.pakistani.org/pakistan/co...mendment.html]

5. Major ports, that is to say, the declaration and delimitation of such ports, and the constitution and powers of port authorities therein.

6. All regulatory authorities established under a Federal law.

7. National planning and national economic coordination including planning and coordination of scientific and technological research.

8. Supervision and management of public debt.

Extension of the powers and jurisdiction of members of a police force belonging to any Province to any area in another Province, but not so as to enable the police of one Province to exercise powers and jurisdiction in another Province without the consent of the Government of that Province; extension of the powers and jurisdiction of a police force belonging to any Pronvice to railway areas outside that Province.

11. Legal, medical and other professions.

Its evident from above that the HEC has been inserted to be a federal entity. However, the Implementation Commission is bent upon destroying an institution which has developed good reputation worldover where other instituitons of Pakistan are termed as corrupt etc...

We all have to try together to save this institution...

Split Phd and Post Doctoral Fellowship Programme in France

The Higher Education Commission and the French Embassy has launched a joint program for research mobility intended for highly qualified Pakistani doctoral and postdoctoral scientists and offers them an excellent opportunity to do research in France for 6 to 9 months. [Knowledge of French language is not necessary].

Eligibility Criteria

1. For Split PhD fellowship (6 months in France) :

Ø Any Pakistani /AJK National PhD student.

Ø Complied with the following HEC quality criteria for PhD degree:

§ Completed coursework of 18 credit hours, (students enrolled in PhD before May 2005 are exempted from this condition),

§ Passed the international GRE subject test (applicable only for PhD students of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Literature in English, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology). In other subjects, NTS (subject) examination or university subject examination is required to be passed.

Ø Has an approved PhD research topic and synopsis by the Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) or Directorate of Advanced Studies and Research (DASR) or equivalent body of the university.

Ø Has an official acceptance/invitation letter for research from a French university/institute/laboratory.

2. For Post-Doctoral Fellowship (09 months in France):

Ø Any Pakistani /AJK National.

Ø Holding a PhD degree from HEC recognized university.

Ø Maximum 50 years of age on 31st December, 2010.

Ø Be a regular employee of:

§ HEC recognized Public/ Private Sector University or Degree Awarding Institute.

§ Public sector R&D organization.

Ø Have a clearly written research proposal, relevant to his current job/institution recommended/endorsed by the employer.

Ø Has an official acceptance/invitation letter for research from a French university/institute/laboratory.

Ø Must not have availed Post Doctoral Fellowship in the last five (5) years.

Annemerie Shimmel Scholarsihp is being awarded for one academic year (session starting Sept/Oct. 2011) for a Master’s degree at recognized institutions of higher education in the UK.

Interim Placement of fresh Ph.D. Programme

The HEC has launched Interim Placement of fresh Ph.D. programme, wherein the Ph.D. degree holders/Scholars from foreign universities will be given jobs in government universities under Tenure Track System.

Such Ph.D. degree holders will be given post of Assitant Professor and pay of Rs.80,000/- and will serve for a period of one year. During this time, they can get research grant of Rs.0.5 million as research grant for carrying out any research programme.

Undergraduate Scholarship for Pakistani Students at London School of Economics

There are three Pakistani Undergraduate Scholarships available for those starting an undergraduate programme in 2010/11.

Each scholarship has a value of £20,000 and is renewable, subject to satisfactory academic performance, for the second and third years of study.

The scholarship has been established to assist those who would have difficulty attending LSE without financial support.

Eligibility

The scholarship is available for study on any undergraduate degree programme at LSE. It will be awarded on the basis of financial need only.
Applicants need to be Pakistani nationals and resident in Pakistan.

The Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust Fellowship Programme is designed to provide assistance to individuals who wish to broaden their experience or improve their skills through a short-term attachment at a UK university or training institution in the following subjects:

HEC SAMMA TV Scholarship...

HEC and SAMMA TV have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for SAMAA scholarship program.

On completion of the education, the successful scholarship holder will be offered a one year job contract with SAMAA TV, with a salary at par with the industry standard and in desired department.

The applicant should be Pakistani National and permanent resident. Applicants should have been enrolled in a public sector university / Degree awarding institution, in Spring / Fall 2009 session, for pursing Master level studies in Mass Communication, Journalism or Media Studies.

The candidate should not be more then 35 years old at the time of closing date of application receipt.

Duration/ Details of Scholarship
Each scholarship will cover tuition fee only.
The scholarship is renewable after successful completion of each semester.
The scholarships covers the entire duration of the study program (02 years, as the case may be)
Short listing will be done on the basis of the merit and financial need of the applicant.

Government of Thailand’s scholarships for Postgraduate (Masters only) Program 2010

Thai International Postgraduate Programme (TIPP) 2010 was setup by the Royal Thai Government’s Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs. TICA under TIPP program has offered Master’s scholarships for Pakistani students in different courses. The applications from Pakistan will be routed through HEC.

ELIGIBILITY FOR SCHOLARSHIP:

Applicants should be nominated by their respective government (HEC).
Be under forty (40) years of age.
Be academically qualified to attend the study (Masters) Programme (see individual/particular course outlines for details)
Have a good command of written and spoken English.
Be in good health, both physically and mentally. Each applicant should have a health certificate provided by an authorized physician (Medical form is available). Pregnancy is regarded as a disqualifying condition.
Have a valid English Language certificate (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL)
Submit additional requirements of each course, mentioned in the course details.
Please be advised that if the awardees want to focus their research on the specific issue of their countries, they are encouraged to bring with them data from their home countries, since preparation of a thesis research begins early in the course. Thesis proposal will be developed throughout the first semester (for a one-year degree programme) or the first year (for a twoyear degree programme).
