Living Without A Dream Is Like Living With No Soul

2015-04-20T09:48:00.000-07:00

All too often I hear people admitting that they feel like they're lacking direction. Unsure about themselves, they have little to no idea what they should do with their lives. As crazy as it sounds, they aren't even sure about what they want, like there's some mask or mystery that hides their own true wants and needs.

Telling yourself "I'm not the kind of person who sets goals" is like chaining your heart in a cage and resigning yourself to mediocrity prison for life. Setting goals and wanting good things to happen in your life is fuel for your joy and happiness. Let's shake off the stigma and just go for it. Not sure what you want? See two paragraphs above, and below.

Not sure what makes you feel amazing? Uh oh. Looks like we have a bit of work to do. But don't worry my Zen-warrior-in-training, have a little faith. The inspiration, energy and passion is 100 percent there, and we can tempt it out again slowly. Just don't shut down your ideas and goals before you've even begun. Make like a kid again and give yourself permission to dream.

So what can we do about this? How can we shift from feeling like we don't know what we want, to knowing? How can we go from being unsure of ourselves to having a real sense of meaning and purpose? How can we become our own source of inspiration and generate happiness that comes from within us, rather than having to turn to something external like our partner, our bank account, or the weather, to make us feel happy and excited?

One of the best ways to do this is to simply tap into our desires, then dream beautiful dreams and set inspiring goals that fulfill our deepest desires. Then of course, we must take action to help make our dreams and goals happen.

But let's not just set goals that we think we should set. Instead, let's consider what is going to totally rock your world. What is going to make you feel seriously amazing? Let's start with the FEELING, and then get DREAMING.

If you consider yourself a practical person and think it's too airy fairy to be a dreamer, no problem. We can just rephrase it. Instead of dreaming, let's just set some goals that you would love to make happen and that will make you feel amazing.

Don't like the concept of setting goals? I suggest you make like Snoop Dogg and drop this limiting thought pattern like its smoking hot. There is nothing wrong with wanting things for yourself, and for others. If you consider yourself a free spirit, that's great. Me too! But is there any harm in choosing a direction for your life to head towards? Absolutely not. We can be a free sprit and set goals -- the two aren't mutually exclusive. There is nothing cold, corporate, or materialistic about it and you won't become a jerk just by deciding to set goals (and going after them like a bull at a gate).

Scared to set a goal because you might not get it? Sitting on the couch your whole life sure isn't going to make your heart sing. Time to be prepared to dare to fail at something. This one is so important I'm going to CAP it out so it's super clear. IT IS NO BIG DEAL IF YOU DON'T HIT YOUR GOAL. EVER. All that matters is that you can you want something with all your heart.

It is the wanting, dreaming, striving, and chasing, that makes life worth living. Otherwise known as, THE JOURNEY.

Just in case you think your dreams are too stupid, crazy, unrealistic or whatever other judgement you might impose upon yourself, here are 20 of my current aspirations and goals below. Some of them are attitudes to live by. Some of them are cheesy, others are ridiculous. None of that matters. Just want want ever you want. And don't justify it anyone.

“I have assured Xi, China’s security is as important to us as Pakistan’s security,” he added.
Nawaz said the two countries have decided to increase regional and economic cooperation and signed 51 agreements in this regard.
“Friendship with China is the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.”
“We have taken a momentous decision that will raise Pakistan, China relations to new heights,” Nawaz said, referring to the agreements signed.
Nawaz added, “We have agreed to make coordinated efforts for peace and economic growth in the regions.”
Regarding the economic corridor, the premier said, “The economic corridor will benefit all provinces and areas of Pakistan.”

40 Rules of Love

2015-04-15T09:17:00.002-07:00

Shams of Tabriz’s 40 Rules of Love

1. How we see God is a direct reflection of how we see ourselves. If God brings to mind mostly fear
and blame, it means there is too much fear and blame welled inside us. If we see God as full of love and compassion, so are we.

2. The path to the Truth is a labour of the heart, not of the head. Make your heart your primary guide! Not your mind. Meet, challenge and ultimately prevail over your nafs (self, psyche, soul) with your heart. Knowing your ego will lead you to the knowledge of God.

3. You can study God through everything and everyone in the universe, because God is not confined in a mosque, synagogue or church. But if you are still in need of knowing where exactly His abode is, there is only one place to look for him: in the heart of a true lover.

4. Intellect and love are made of different materials. Intellect ties people in knots and risks nothing, but love dissolves all tangles and risks everything. Intellect is always cautious and advises, ‘Beware too much ecstasy’, whereas love says, ‘Oh, never mind! Take the plunge!’ Intellect does not easily break down, whereas love can effortlessly reduce itself to rubble. But treasures are hidden among ruins. A broken heart hides treasures.

5. Most of problems of the world stem from linguistic mistakes and simple misunderstanding. Don’t ever take words at face value. When you step into the zone of love, language, as we know it becomes obsolete. That which cannot be put into words can only be grasped through silence.

6. Loneliness and solitude are two different things. When you are lonely, it is easy to delude yourself into believing that you are on the right path. Solitude is better for us, as it means being alone without feeling lonely. But eventually it is the best to find a person who will be your mirror. Remember only in another person’s heart can you truly see yourself and the presence of God within you.

7. Whatever happens in your life, no matter how troubling things might seem, do not enter the neighbourhood of despair. Even when all doors remain closed, God will open up a new path only for you. Be thankful! It is easy to be thankful when all is well. A Sufi is thankful not only for what he has been given but also for all that he has been denied.

8. Patience does not mean to passively endure. It means to look at the end of a process. What does patience mean? It means to look at the thorn and see the rose, to look at the night and see the dawn. Impatience means to be shortsighted as to not be able to see the outcome. The lovers of God never run out of patience, for they know that time is needed for the crescent moon to become full.

9. East, west, south, or north makes little difference. No matter what your destination, just be sure to make every journey a journey within. If you travel within, you’ll travel the whole wide world and beyond.

10. The midwife knows that when there is no pain, the way for the baby cannot be opened and the mother cannot give birth. Likewise, for a new self to be born, hardship is necessary. Just as clay needs to go through intense heat to become strong, Love can only be perfected in pain.

11. The quest for love changes user. There is no seeker among those who search for love who has not matured on the way. The moment you start looking for love, you start to change within and without.

12. There are more fake gurus and false teachers in this world than the number of stars in the visible universe. Don’t confuse power-driven, self-centered people with true mentors. A genuine spiritual master will not direct your attention to himself or herself and will not expect absolute obedience or utter admiration from you, but instead will help you to appreciate and admire your inner self. True mentors are as transparent as glass. They let the light of God pass through them.

13. Try not to resist the changes, which come your way. Instead let life live through you. And do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?

14. God is busy with the completion of your work, both outwardly and inwardly. He is fully occupied with you. Every human being is a work in progress that is slowly but inexorably moving toward perfection. We are each an unfinished work of art both waiting and striving to be completed. God deals with each of us separately because humanity is fine art of skilled penmanship where every single dot is equally important for the entire picture.

15. It’s easy to love a perfect God, unblemished and infallible that He is. What is far more difficult is to love fellow human beings with all their imperfections and defects. Remember, one can only know what one is capable of loving. There is no wisdom without love. Unless we learn to love God’s creation, we can neither truly love nor truly know God.

16. Real filth is the one inside. The rest simply washes off. There is only one type of dirt that cannot be cleansed with pure waters, and that is the stain of hatred and bigotry contaminating the soul. You can purify your body through abstinence and fasting, but only love will purify your heart.

17. The whole universe is contained within a single human being-you. Everything that you see around, including the things that you might not be fond of and even the people you despise or abhor, is present within you in varying degrees. Therefore, do not look for Sheitan outside yourself either. The devil is not an extraordinary force that attacks from without. It is an ordinary voice within. If you set to know yourself fully, facing with honesty and hardness.

18. If you want to change the ways others treat you, you should first change the way you treat yourself. Unless you learn to love yourself, fully and sincerely, there is no way you can be loved. Once you achieve that stage, however, be thankful for every thorn that others might throw at you. It is a sign that you will soon be showered in roses.

19. Fret not where the road will take you. Instead concentrate on the first step. That is the hardest part and that is what you are responsible for. Once you take that step let everything do what it naturally does and the rest will follow. Don’t go with the flow. Be the flow.

20. We were all created in His image, and yet we were each created different and unique. No two people are alike. No hearts beat to the same rhythm. If God had wanted everyone to be the same, He would have made it so. Therefore, disrespecting differences and imposing your thoughts on others is an amount to disrespecting God’s holy scheme.

21. When a true lover of God goes into a tavern, the tavern becomes his chamber of prayer, but when a wine bibber goes into the same chamber, it becomes his tavern. In everything we do, it is our hearts that make the difference, not our outer appearance. Sufis do not judge other people on how they look or who they are. When a Sufi stares at someone, he keeps both eyes closed instead opens a third eye – the eye that sees the inner realm.

22. Life is a temporary loan and this world is nothing but a sketchy imitation of Reality. Only children would mistake a toy for the real thing. And yet human beings either become infatuated with the toy or disrespectfully break it and throw it aside. In this life stay away from all kinds of extremities, for they will destroy your inner balance. Sufis do not go to extremes. A Sufi always remains mild and moderate.

23. The human being has a unique place among God’s creation. “I breathed into him of My Spirit,” God says. Each and every one of us without exception is designed to be God’s delegate on earth. Ask yourself, just how often do you behave like a delegate, if you ever do so? Remember, it fells upon each of us to discover the divine spirit inside and live by it.

24. Hell is in the here and now. So is heaven. Quit worrying about hell or dreaming about heaven, as they are both present inside this very moment. Every time we fall in love, we ascend to heaven. Every time we hate, envy or fight someone we tumble straight into the fires of hell.

25. Each and every reader comprehends the Holy Qur’an on a different level of tandem with the depth of his understanding. There are four levels of insight. The first level is the outer meaning and it is the one that the majority of the people are content with. Next is the Batin – the inner level. Third, there is the inner of the inner. And the fourth level is so deep it cannot be put into words and is therefore bound to remain indescribable.

26. The universe is one being. Everything and everyone is interconnected through an invisible web of stories. Whether we are aware of it or not, we are all in a silent conversation. Do no harm. Practice compassion. And do not gossip behind anyone’s back – not even a seemingly innocent remark! The words that come out of our mouths do not vanish but are perpetually stored in infinite space and they will come back to us in due time. One man’s pain will hurt us all. One man’s joy will make everyone smile.

27. Whatever you speak, good or evil, will somehow come back to you. Therefore, if there is someone who harbours ill thoughts about you, saying similarly bad things about him will only make matters worse. You will be locked in a vicious circle of malevolent energy. Instead for forty days and nights say and think nice things about that person. Everything will be different at the end of 40 days, because you will be different inside.

28. The past is an interpretation. The future is on illusion. The world does not move through time as if it were a straight line, proceeding from the past to the future. Instead time moves through and within us, in endless spirals. Eternity does not mean infinite time, but simply timelessness. If you want to experience eternal illumination, put the past and the future out of your mind and remain within the present moment.

29. Destiny doesn’t mean that your life has been strictly predetermined. Therefore, to live everything to the fate and to not actively contribute to the music of the universe is a sign of sheer ignorance. The music of the universe is all pervading and it is composed on 40 different levels. Your destiny is the level where you play your tune. You might not change your instrument but how well to play is entirely in your hands.

30. The true Sufi is such that even when he is unjustly accused, attacked and condemned from all sides, he patiently endures, uttering not a single bad word about any of his critics. A Sufi never apportions blame. How can there be opponents or rivals or even “others” when there is no “self” in the first place? How can there be anyone to blame when there is only One?

31. If you want to strengthen your faith, you will need to soften inside. For your faith to be rock solid, your heart needs to be as soft as a feather. Through an illness, accident, loss or fright, one way or another, we are all faced with incidents that teach us how to become less selfish and judgmental and more compassionate and generous. Yet some of us learn the lesson and manage to become milder, while some others end up becoming even harsher than before…

32. Nothing should stand between you and God. No imams, priests, rabbis or any other custodians of moral or religious leadership. Not spiritual masters and not even your faith. Believe in your values and your rules, but never lord them over others. If you keep breaking other people’s hearts, whatever religious duty you perform is no good. Stay away from all sorts of idolatry, for they will blur your vision. Let God and only God be your guide. Learn the Truth, my friend, but be careful not to make a fetish out of your truths.

33. While everyone in this world strives to get somewhere and become someone, only to leave it all behind after death, you aim for the supreme stage of nothingness. Live this life as light and empty as the number zero. We are no different from a pot. It is not the decorations outside but the emptiness inside that holds us straight. Just like that, it is not what we aspire to achieve but the consciousness of nothingness that keeps us going.

34. Submission does not mean being weak or passive. It leads to neither fatalism nor capitulation. Just the opposite. True power resides in submission to a power that comes within. Those who submit to the divine essence of life will live in unperturbed tranquility and peace even the whole wide world goes through turbulence after turbulence.

35. In this world, it is not similarities or regularities that take us a step forward, but blunt opposites. And all the opposites in the universe are present within each and every one of us. Therefore the believer needs to meet the unbeliever residing within. And the nonbeliever should get to know the silent faithful in him. Until the day one reaches the stage of Insan-I Kamil, the perfect human being, faith is a gradual process and one that necessitates its seeming opposite: disbelief.

36. This world is erected upon the principle of reciprocity. Neither a drop of kindness nor a speck of evil will remain unreciprocated. For not the plots, deceptions, or tricks of other people. If somebody is setting a trap, remember, so is God. He is the biggest plotter. Not even a leaf stirs outside God’s knowledge. Simply and fully believe in that. Whatever God does, He does it beautifully.

37. God is a meticulous clock maker. So precise is His order that everything on earth happens in its own time. Neither a minute late nor a minute early. And for everyone without exception, the clock works accurately. For each there is a time to love and a time to die.

38. It is never too late to ask yourself, “Am I ready to change the life I am living? Am I ready to change within?” Even if a single day in your life is the same as the day before, it surely is a pity. At every moment and with each new breath, one should be renewed and renewed again. There is only one-way to be born into a new life: to die before death.

39. While the part change, the whole always remains the same. For every thief who departs this world, a new one is born. And every decent person who passes away is replaced by a new one. In this way not only does nothing remain the same but also nothing ever really changes. For every Sufi who dies, another is born somewhere.

40. A life without love is of no account. Don’t ask yourself what kind of love you should seek, spiritual or material, divine or mundane, Eastern or Western. Divisions only lead to more divisions. Love has no labels, no definitions. It is what it is, pure and simple. Love is the water of life. And a lover is a soul of fire! The universe turns differently when fire loves water.

Pakistani Army Role In Osama Bin Laden's Death.

2011-05-12T05:20:00.000-07:00

It is paramount in the wake of US attack on Pakistan in the dead of the night that Pakistan make a stand. Pakistan is on a slippery slope where they were not even trusted with a joint operation and now the time has come that even third class countries like India are threatening Pakistan.

How Pakistan came to this place. This place where its leadership is now totally humiliated in the eyes of their own public. Pakistani public is asking questions about the capabilities of Pakistan military and it's intelligence services. They are rightly asking about the public money that is being used by Pakistan Army and which can be used by the government to build school, hospitals, roads e.t.c.

Today's attack on Hazara town in Quetta (where terrorists operating from within Afghanistan at the behest of Indian RAW killed at least 8 innocent people and wounded many more) clearly shows the need for Pakistan to finally stand up to America. It is time to say enough is enough and if US cannot control anti Pakistan activities emanating from Afghanistan, than Pakistan will deal with Indians the way they know best.

Everything must discussed in open for Pakistan is being blamed for everything between heaven & earth. The world needs to know that no one is pious in this game of deceit.

It is time to make a stand. It is now or never.

Campaign in collaboration with Ufone, Unilever, Radio FM 91, ARY Music, Orient Advertising and United Media.
All the companies involved in the campaign joined hands to improve the environmental awareness in Pakistan
and to provide an easily accessible solution for responsible recycling of mobile phones, accessories, chargers and
mobile batteries of all brands. Recycling is processing old materials into something new in order to prevent wasting
useful material, to cut down on energy consumption and to reduce the need for waste land filling that can spoil
Pakistan’s environment.
People all across Pakistan are contributing to the campaign by recycling old and redundant or even broken
mobiles that are no longer of use. Taking part in this campaign is easy: simply bring your old mobile devices,
chargers, batteries and accessories of all brands to one of the 33 Nokia Care Centres or Ufone Sales and Service
Centres across the country. The campaign will give a free gift hamper from Unilever and a chance to win a brand
new Nokia N8 device only if person will drop off a mobile phone for recycling (all brands accepted).
Nokia Mobile Phone Take Back and Recycling Program rolled out in Pakistan during 2010. At this point in time,
Nokia aims to increase awareness about why it is important to recycle your old phone and how easy it can be
done.
Talking about Nokia’s contribution to environment in Pakistan, Adeel Hashmi, Communications Manager, Nokia
Pakistan & Afghanistan, said, “Nokia has a comprehensive sustainability and environmental strategy and recycling
is one of the key aspects covered. We understand that leadership means responsibility, that’s why at Nokia we
consider the environment in everything we do and even go beyond our own operations and products: we want to
give that chance to our consumers as well because we understand that a power of a billion people can do a lot of
good to our environment. If the 4.6 billion people using mobile phones recycled just one unused phone at the end
of its life, together we would save nearly 370,000 tons of raw materials and reduce greenhouse gases to the same
effect as taking 6 million cars off the road.”
According to Nokia’s global consumer survey on recycling, only 3% of people said they had recycled their old
phone – whereas 44% of old mobile phones are lying at home for no use and not being recycled. The survey
revealed that one of the main reasons why so few people recycle their mobile phones is because they simply
don’t know that it is possible to do so. Mobile devices and accessories contain raw materials which – if recycled
in a responsible high standard process – can be reused in many ways to make new things, such as musical
instruments or even dental fillings. 100 percent of the materials in Nokia devices can be recovered and used to
make new products or generate energy.
Commenting on the campaign kick-off, Reza Burney, Country Care Manager Nokia Pakistan & Afghanistan
said, “It is an exciting moment for Nokia to bring an opportunity for Pakistani consumers to make a positive
contribution to the environment. Nokia has more than 5,000 recycling points globally in almost 100 countries. In
Pakistan, we initiated an awareness drive to help people understand recycling and its benefits, and in addition we
facilitate that all collected devices, chargers, accessories and batteries are recycled in a responsible way according
to high environmental standards. By working together, small individual actions can add up to make a big difference
and we have made recycling old mobile phones very simple for people. All they need to do is drop in the old mobile
phone, charger, battery or accessories of any brand at one of our collection points and we’ll take care of the rest.”
-more-
Nokia does neither resell the phones nor carry out refurbishment business as there is no control over the quality or
safety of the phones after restoration. Instead, Nokia works with carefully selected, approved recyclers who reclaim
materials according to highest environmental and international standards.
Complementing its green initiative, Nokia has also introduced a number of green apps on its Ovi Store that help
people contribute to a better environment through fun activities. A complete list of environment friendly apps is
available on www.ovi.com/dogood website.
More information about Nokia’s Recycling program is available on www.nokia.com/werecycle.

Comparison between Afghan Taliban & Pakistani Taliban / Cause of Fighting Of Both Groups

2011-05-04T03:09:00.000-07:00

By: Anmol Asghar

These days when we talk about Taliban, we tend to think that all Taliban are fighting under one creed and have similar motives and objective. I wanted to share my understanding of Taliban with the viewers of this site and when I looked at this issue, I came to the immediate conclusion that there cannot possibly be still a link between Pakistani and Afghan Taliban.

The two movements started out simultaneously when the Americans attacked Afghanistan to get Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaida.
After the Tora Bora escape, Osama and his terrorist fellows slipped into Pakistan and sought sanctuary from the Mehsud tribe which was granted as per the ancient Pashtun customs that no one who come to your door asking for sanctuary be turned away. Osama and Zawahiri kept a low profile during the initial days of the war but after a while when the initially intensity of the war faded a bit, started to build a strong hold among the local tribes by marrying their daughters with the powerful clan members and vice versa. This was the single most powerful act with turned the relationship between the guest and the host into a partnership of blood and Mehsuds decided to fight on the side of Osama and Zawahiri.

Afghan Taliban for a while kept a link with the Pakistani Taliban but when the frequency of violence perpetrated by the Pakistani Taliban reached a high pitch Pakistan asked Mullah Omar and his associates to exert their influence on this group. Mullah Omar tried his hand by sending his emissaries to Waziristan but his request fell on flat ears and Pakistani Taliban refused to abide by any such undertaking.

Then onwards the two movements took their own differing paths and to resolve the issue successfully we have to understand that these two entities should be dealt with differently because of following reasons:

1. It is Pakistani Taliban who are protecting and sheltering Al-Qaida and not the Afghan Taliban

2. Pakistani Taliban are made up of groups ranging from Laskar-e-Jhangwi, Sipah-e-Sihaba, Lashkar-e-Toiba and has Punjabis, Pashtuns, Kashmiris, Chechens and Arabs in their ranks

3. The Afghan Taliban make up is almost entirely Pashtun

4. Pakistani Taliban are trying to stage a violent coup in Pakistan to overthrow the government and have a theocratic state Iran style

5. Taliban in Afghanistan represent a Pashtun insurgency which like Bathists in Iraq embodies a major section of society which was in power and was ousted from power by the Americans and NATO

6. Mullah Omar on number of occasions has distanced himself from the Tehrek-e-Taliban Pakistan and because of that refusal from Mullah Omar to endorse these gangsters, Baitullah Mehsud and two other groups have joined forces under the umbrella of Al-Qaida to fight against Pakistani state

7. Afghan Taliban unlike their Pakistani namesakes still listen to what Pakistan has to say because of their understanding that Pashtuns can only get a good deal in Afghanistan if Pakistan is on their side otherwise the Tajiks Uzbek alliance will keep them out of power for a long time to come.

Kaghan - A Beautiful Valley of Pakistan

2011-05-01T04:10:00.000-07:00

By: Anmol Asghar

Kaghan Valley (Urdu: وادی کاغان) is a valley in the north-east of Mansehra District of the Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It attracts many tourists from around the country. The inhabitants were affected by the earthquake disaster on 8 October 2005.

The Kaghan valley is named after the town of Kaghan rather than for the Kunhar River which flows through the length of the valley. The valley extends 155 km, rising from an elevation of 2,134 feet (650 m) to its highest point, the Babusar Pass, at 13,690 feet (4,170 m). Popular languages are Hindko and Gojri, while Urdu, Pakistan's national language is also familiar among the locals. The region is Alpine in geography and climate, with forests and meadows dominating the landscape below peaks that reach over 17,000 feet.

Its mountains, dales, lakes, water-falls, streams and glaciers are still in a pristine state. Kaghan is at its best during summer (from May to September). In May the temperature ranges between a maximum of 11 °C (52 °F) and a minimum of 3 °C (37 °F). From the middle of July up to the end of September the road beyond Naran is open right up to Babusar Pass. Movement is restricted during the monsoon and winter seasons. The Kaghan area can be reached by road via the towns of Balakot, Abbottabad and Mansehra. In Balakot, one may find buses and other transports to reach Kaghan or Naran.

The road from Balakot ascends along the Kunhar River through lovely forests and the villages of Paras, Shinu, Jared and Mahandri. The valley is somewhat narrow along this stretch and the views are limited but as you ascend, the surrounding peaks come into view. One spot that is quite famous for its spectacular view and scenery is 'Shogran'. This village, surrounded by peaks and forests, is east of the main Kunhar River. It hosts the famous Siri Payee Lake mountain with breathtaking views at its top.

Kaghan Valley is home to many a tourist attractions, especially its lakes. There are more than a dozen big and small lakes in the valley, but three are more popular among the tourists: Saiful Muluk Lake, Dudipatsar Lake and Lulusar Lake.

Saiful Muluk, named in a folktale—the Qissa Saiful Muluk—about a romance between a Persia prince and a fairy princess. In the folktale. The lake is mentioned as the meeting site of the lovers in the folktale. lake Saiful Muluk is 10,578 feet (3,224 m) above the sea level, it is one of the highest and most beautiful lakes in Pakistan. The water of this over a mile in diameter oval shaped lake is spectacularly clear with a slight green tone.
Hidden behind the hill, Lake Lulusar has a baby lake.

It is accessible by a motor-able road during the summer months or can be reached by tracking from the nearest village Naran, some 10 kilometers away in four to five hours. The clarity of the water comes from the multiple glaciers all around the high basin feeding the lake.

Dudipat Lake is enclosed with high peaks. It is one of the hardest places to reach in the valley, requiring a tough hike lasting four to seven hours. The hike is rewarding, as tourists are greeted with green pastures and the lake's blue-green waters.

Lulusar Lake is approximately 48 kilometers away from Naran and has an altitude of 10,910 feet (3,330 m). Surrounded by wildflowers in almost all colors imaginable, this lake is the main source for the Kunhar River. Lake Lulusar is said to be one of the most tranquil spots on the Kaghan Valley, the lake is fenced by snow capped mountains whose image is reflected on the standstill blue-green waters of this approximately three kilometers long "L" shaped lake. Jared is a very beautiful village with having special attraction for tourists,In this village there is one small industry of wood working which is point of attention for visitors. The peoples of this village are mostly Hindko speakers and mostly belonged to Swati caste. This village is about 80 km from Mansehra city and almost 40 km from Naran.

There are many hotels in the Naran valley. One of the most popular is the New Cecil Hotel. Among other Fairy land Hotel is also situated in midway of kaghan valley near Malakandi with exciting natural scenaries,

Fishing is the chief sport in Kaghan. Brown Trout and Mahasher are stocked in pure silvery waters in the upper parts of the valley. The Kunhar river trout is considered to be the best throughout the sub-continent. Fishing licenses are issued by the 'Fisheries Department at Naran' or by the 'Trout Hatchery' at Shinu. Apart from this there are some other private trout fish farms at Kawai (also spelled as Kiwai) and Kahania, these are owned by pine park hotels, a well known hotel chain in Kaghan valley.

Onwards a 3 hour drive away from Shogran is Naran. It is a small tourist village open only during the tourist season of May to September. The rest of the time it is covered with snow. All visitors come to Naran to pay a visit to the Saiful Muluk Lake (10,500 feet) 6 miles east of town. If the road is open transportation by jeep can be arranged. If the road is closed, it is an easy, gradual three-hour walk, and the lake is a lovely spot for a picnic.

If you are walking directly up-valley from Naran to Babusar "Top" the loveliest spots to camp on this trail is at "Lulusar Lake". Located just before the final grade to Babusar Top and surrounded by tall peaks, Lulusar is just one many high elevation lakes that sit along the crest of the ridge.

One of the most interesting features of the Kaghan area is the Gujar (herder) families you'll see along the way bringing their animals up to the summer pastures. The Kaghan valley is one of their most popular destinations in Pakistan. You will find them camped along the road in their tents or moving up the valley with their goats, sheep and pack animals around the start of summer and on their way back to lower altitudes around the beginning of winter.

Why Pakistan Need More Provinces? What Are The Future Options For Pakistan?

2011-05-01T03:54:00.000-07:00

By Anmol Asghar

At the moment Punjab has 60% of the population of Pakistan. Other Pakistanis think that Punjab is the usurper of their resources while at the same time people of Punjab are suffering the same prejudices as everyone else in the federation, like any Baloch, Sindhi, Pakhtun, Kashmiri, Balti & Hazara.
Saying that, I must add that sometimes perceptions are as powerful as truth and there is a need to allay those fears.
Many scholars in Pakistan have studied
and commented upon case-histories such as Switzerland, Belgium, India and Nigeria, populated like Pakistan by diverse people having different languages and cultures. Switzerland has German, French, Italian and Romanch as languages and culture. Like the Punjab (60%) in Pakistan, Switzerland is dominated by the Germans (70%) but the country is divided into 26 cantons. At the time of independence in 1947, India had 7 provinces and a few Union-administered territories despite 24 distinct languages.
Why then Pakistan can’t have more provinces.

Gen Burki has recommended 17 provinces. According to him Federal Government should have follwing areas under it:

(1) Defence
(2) Foreign Affairs
(3) Currency and Fiscal Policies
(4) Trade and Commerce, only policy
(5) Federal Taxation
(6) Railways
(7) Federal Highways and Motorways
(8) Water and Power
(9) Education, only basic policy and
(10) TV, Radio and Telecommunications.

& the Provinces would have

(1) Agriculture
(2) Irrigation
(3) Power Generation and Distribution
(4) Trade and Commerce
(5) Provincial Taxation
(6) Local Government and Provincial Highways.

According to eminent political scholar Ikram Sehgal “ Punjab should have four Provinces centred on Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sargodha, and Rahimyar Khan.
Sindh should have 2 Provinces centred around Karachi (less the Port and adjacent areas) and Hyderabad (Keti Bundar must be with Hyderabad).
Similarly NWFP should have 2 provinces
centred around Peshawar and Abbottabad. Balochistan should be split into 2 provinces centred around Quetta and Kalat, for a total of 11 with the Northern Areas (Gilgit/Skardu Dir/Chitral/Swat) constituting a separate Province, making it 12 in all.
The Federal territories should include Islamabad, Karachi Port/Adjacent areas and Gwadar.”

Mr Ikram Sehgal takes the view that the savings made by the good governance provided by these new smaller provinces will mitigate the expenses that will occur due to requirement for new political infrastructure. According to him “There may be all sorts of arguments about spending more on
Governors, Chief Ministers, Ministers, Assemblies etc but this is a necessary price not only for better administration but also for development. Even our smallest Provinces will be larger than 50 to 75 countries of the world. Each Province should have its own Assembly, the size varying according to population. The leaders of local government must act dually as Administrators and Assemblymen.”

He further says “ To give equal opportunity to each Province in the Federation they must have Members of National Assembly (MNA) as per a set delimitation as well as 5 Senators each in the Senate, all duly directly elected and 2 technocrats each (one male, one female) indirectly elected.
The Federal Territories will have 5 Senators, 2 each for Islamabad and Karachi Port/Adjacent area and one for Gwadar (plus 2 technocrats). There should be no quota except for one or two genuinely
backward areas and that too only a nominal one. Merit should be the only qualification for recognition and appointment. The buzzword for separation of East Pakistan was disparity, in creating more provinces and doing away with quotas we not only ensure parity but enter the new millennium as genuine and equal partners of a Federation made much more effective and viable.”

I believe that there is a need for a genuine debate among Pakistanis on this issue because the terrorism that we see today is a symptom not the real disease. The real disease is the feeling among the common man of Pakistan that power structures of Pakistani state are out of his reach and that is why there is need to bring these institutions of power closer to the people.
e.g currently if someone living in Bahawalnagar has a legal issue that he wants to pursue, he has to travel to Lahore where the Punjab high court sits. It is not possible for people of lower incomes to pursue this course of action. This in turn starves people of justice they deserve and breeds contempt for the system which leads to social unrest.

Someone managed to hack into the top secret US government files and took hold of 3 million odd pages of information. Those documents were then transferred to wiki leaks to be published, making them available to anyone with a computer. Smart work America. It is very rich hearing from you about this country not safe and that country not safe but what about you? Where is your top notch CIA? Who is protecting your nuclear secrets? Last time I checked two of your own scientists passed those to USSR to make their own nuclear bomb. Was that not an act of nuclear proliferation by some of your own scientists who went rogue.

This is becoming your habit now to lose your top secret files. First the Afghanistan files, then the Iraq war files & now all the data sent to Washington by your diplomats ( or shall I say spies in the disguise of diplomats). What is next? Codes to your submarines for a possible nuclear missile attack. May be or may be not. But until America puts its own house in order, you need to shut up.

Gwadar - Beauty Of Pakistan (Balochistan)

2011-04-30T04:55:00.000-07:00

By: Anmol Asghar

Gwadar is located on the south-western coast of Pakistan, on the Arabian Sea. It is strategically located between three increasingly important regions: the oil-rich Middle East, heavily populated South Asia and the economically emerging and resource-laden region of Central Asia. The Gwadar Port is expected to generate billions of dollars in revenues and create at least two million jobs. In 2007, the government of Pakistan handed over port operations to PSA Singapore for 25 years, and gave it the status of a Tax Free Port for the following 40 years. The main investors in the project are Pakistani Government and People's Republic of China.

The Makran region surrounding Gwadar was occupied by an ancient Bronze age people which settled in the few oases. It later became the Gedrosia region of the Achaemenid Persian empire. It is believed to have been conquered by the founder of the Persian empire, Cyrus the Great. The capital of the satrapy of Gedrosia was Pura, which is thought to have been located near the modern Bampûr, in Iran. During the homeward march of Alexander the Great, his admiral, Nearchus, led a fleet along the modern-day Makran coast and recorded that the area was dry, mountainous, and inhabited by the Ichthyophagoi (or "fish eaters"), a Greek rendering of the ancient Persian phrase "Mahi khoran" (which has itself become the modern word "Makran"). After the collapse of Alexander's empire the area was ruled by Seleucus Nicator, one of Alexander’s generals. The region then came under "local rule" around about 303 BC.

The region remained on the sidelines of history for a millennium, until the Arab-Muslim army of Muhammad bin Qasim captured the town of Gwadar in 711 CE and over the intervening (and nearly equivalent) amount of time the area was contested by various powers, including the Mughals (from the east) and the Safavids (from the west). The Portuguese captured, sacked and burnt Gwadar in 1581 and this was then followed by almost two centuries of local rule by the various Balochi tribes. The city was visited by Ottoman Admiral Sidi Ali Reis in 1550s and mentioned in his book Mirat ul Memalik (The Mirror of Countries), 1557 CE. According to Sidi Ali Reis, the inhabitants of Gwadar were Baloch and their chief was Malik Jelaleddin, son of Malik Dinar. In 1783, the Khan of Kalat granted suzerainty over Gwadar to Taimur Sultan, the defeated ruler of Muscat. When the Sultan subsequently retook Muscat, he was to continue his rule in Gwadar by appointing a Wali (or "governor"). This Wali was then ordered to subjugate the nearby coastal town of Chah Bahar (in modern-day Iran). The Gwadar fort was built during Omani rule, whilst telegraph lines were later extended into the town courtesy of the British.

In 1947 Pakistan gained her independence from Britain and in 1958, the Gwadar enclave was transferred by Oman to Pakistan. It was then made part of the Balochistan province In 2002, the Gwadar Port project (of building a large, deep-sea port) was begun in the town. The government of Pakistan intends to develop the entire area in order to provide much needed employment to the local population . In addition to expanding port facilities, the Project aims to build industrial complexes in the area and to connect the town via a modern highway to the rest of Pakistan.

Gwadar's location and history have given it a unique blend of cultures. The Arabic influence upon Gwadar is strong as a consequence of the Omani era and the close proximity of other Arab-majority regions. The legacy of the Omani slave trade is observed in the population by the presence of residents which can trace their descent from the African slaves who were trafficked through the town. The area also has a remarkable religious diversity, being home to not only Sunni Muslims, but also to groups of Christians, Hindus, Parsis, and various minorities such as the Ahmadies.

Gwadar is located on the Gulf of Oman close to the entrance of the Persian Gulf, about 460 kilometres west of Karachi. In 1993, Pakistan started feasibility studies for the development of a major deepwater seaport at Gwadar. The port project commenced on 22 March 2002 with the first phase completed in December 2005.

The construction of the port has spurred other major infrastructure projects in the area. This includes the 700 km Makran Coastal Highway which is now complete. The road links Karachi with several ports along the coast including Ormara, Pasni, Gwadar and will be extended to the Iranian border in the future. The highway has reduced travel time to Karachi from 48 hours to only 7 hours. Other road projects include the Gwadar-Quetta-Chaman road which is due for completion in 2006 and a roadlink to the town of Khuzdar in eastern Balochistan. There are also plans for a terminal for passenger ships.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan has earmarked 3000 acres (12 km²) of land for Gwadar International Airport which will be built 26 km away to the northeast of the existing airport towards Pasni and is likely to cost between $200-250 million. The new airport will be given international status and operate under the open sky policy. In the meantime there are plans to improve facilities at the existing airport.

The government is focusing on laying the Havelian-Kashghar (China) and Quetta-Kandahar (Afghanistan) railway tracks . In 2006, Ministry of Railways announced that Gwadar will be connected to Pakistan Railways network at an expected cost of $ 1.25 billion (Rs. 75-billion).

Gwadar deep-sea port emerges as a place of great strategic value, enhancing Pakistan's importance in the whole region, extending from the Persian Gulf through the Indian Ocean to Southeast Asia and the Far East.

The construction of the Gwadar deep-sea port is just one component of a larger development plan which includes building a network of roads connecting Gwadar with the rest of Pakistan, such as the Gwadar-Turbat road (188 km). This network of roads connects with China through the Indus Highway. Pakistan, China, Kazakhistan, Kyrgizstan and Uzbekistan are developing extensive road and rail links from Central Asia and the Chinese province of Xinjiang to the Arabian Sea coast.

The Pakistani Government has initiated several projects, with majority financial and technical assistance from China, to develop Gwadar's strategic location as a goods transit and trade point. The primary project is the construction of a deep-sea port at Gwadar to enable high-volume cargo movement to and from the landlocked Central Asian states. The new port will also encompass conversion facilities to allow for the movement of natural gas as a part of plans for a termination point for the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan natural gas pipeline.

The significance of Gwadar is great to both Pakistan and China. China is going to be the beneficiary of Gwadar's most accessible international trade routes to the Central Asian republics and Xinjiang. By extending its East-West Railway from the Chinese border city of Kashi to Peshawar in Pakistan's northwest, Beijing can receive cargo to and from Gwadar along the shortest route, from Karachi to Peshawar.

Oman has offered $100 million aid for the development of social and infrastructure facilities in Balochistan. Out of $100 million, Oman has provided $7 million for extending of runway at Gwadar Airport, construction of jetties, upgradation of Gwadar Hospital, provision of 100 engines to fishermen and construction of power house. Oman is also financing construction of Gwadar-Hoshab Road, water supply scheme in Gwadar area and construction of irrigation dams.

Pakistan and Oman have signed a number of agreements including Avoidance of Double Taxation, Promotion and Protection of Investment, Cultural, Technical and Educational Cooperation, Agreement on cooperation between Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and FPCCI, Maritime Boundary Agreement and Agreement to establish Pak-Oman Joint Investment Company.

The proximity of Oman is an asset to Pakistan. Around 70,000 Pakistani citizens are participating in the development of Oman. Omani assistance for construction of Gwadar Port would go a long way in promoting economic relations between Pakistan and central Asian states.

A number of electric power generation projects are also being carried out in Gwadar and in its surroundings. The Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO), a subsidiary of the Wapda, has geared up the work for building the power transmission line. It is expected to be completed soon.

There is a need for the expansion of the airport and enlargement of its runway to facilitate the landing of wide body aero-planes.

There are other economic and political dimensions to this issue as well: I am using here some research done by Owais Mughal of Pakistaniat.com which goes in some detail to establish how important Gwadar is for Pakistan and the threat this project is causing in Iran and India.

“Pakistan inaugurated its third deep sea port in Gwadar in March 2005. It became operational in March 2008 when first the ship carrying 52000 tonnes of wheat from Canada berthed here. In my opinion a great news of development for Pakistan, especially as a project whose foundation stone was laid just three years ago on March 22, 2002 and its first phase got finished on time in March 2005. Phase I includes building of three multipurpose berths. Gwadar port operations are run by the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) under a 40-year agreement.

In my opinion this is a brilliantly planned project and a great strategic move by Pakistan. With Pakistan Motorway Project connecting Gwadar to Peshawar via Punjab, a World Class Coastal Highway (N10) connecting Gwadar to Karachi, it may very well become the trade hub for this century. But while Pakistan has played its best move, other regional and global powers are also not sitting silent and they are making their own moves making Gwadar port a project with multi-dimensonal consequences.

(1) Gwadar is located only 180 nautical miles from the Strait of Hormuz through which 40% of World’s Oil passes. Gwadar could thus emerge as the key shipping hub in the area providing mass trade to central asian republics as well as across Pakistan and China. A road from Gwadar to Saindak is completed. Saindak is already connected to the RCD Highway (N35) and through Quetta-Chaman it provides the shortest route for trade with Central Asian Republics.

(2) Pakistan also needed a deep sea port away from Karachi so that in times of hostilities Pakistan Navy doesn’t get blockaded. With all the navy ships concentrated at Karachi port, a blockade of Pakistan had been quite easy in the past. With Jinnah Naval Base at Ormara and Gwadar port, PN should be able to spread out its assets. For reference, Gwadar port is 450 km further away from Indian Border than Karachi Port.

(3) Gwadar port will directly and indirectly bring lots of wealth, trade and infrastructure advancement to the area which has been traditionally left behind in developement. Compare it to how Karachi port transformed a once sleepy fishing village to a megapolis.

Dimension Two: Chinese Interests in Reaching Blue Waters

(1) It is also widely claimed that there is a Chinese interest in reaching the blue waters of Arabian Sea. This is cited as a strategic move by Chinese as they funded US $198 million (out of total phase I cost of US $248 million) and also provided 450 Engineers on site to finish the project on time. It is said that China is trying to develop its Western regions at par with its Eastern regions to reduce the economic gap within China and to stop the internal migration of people from West to East. It is famously called their ‘Go West’ policy. To market products produced in Western China, ports of Shanghai or other eastern ports are almost 3000 km away from the western production centers where as Gwadar provides access to a port at just 1500 km.

(2) There is another dimension to this project where Gwadar port is considered as the naval outpost for the Chinese. It has been called part of ‘String of Pearls’ strategy of Chinese where they’ve got hold of strategic ports in Gwadar, Bangladesh, SriLanka, Burma, Thailand, Combodia, and South China Sea etc. On a world map, these ports form of string (of pearls) which may form as Chinese line of defense to control oil movement. 80% of oil used in China goes through shipping lines of Malacca Straits. This strategy of a series of ports along the oil shipment routes gives China a forward footing. It is said that China is also wary that US may cut off its oil supplies through Malacca straits in case of any increase of hostilities on Taiwan issue.

(3) China has however, always denied that Gwadar will ever be used by Chinese military. Publicly they have always called it a civilian port of Pakistan.

(1) Gwadar port is also making regional players nervous. Iran which is only 72 km away from Gwadar considers it as an economic threat taking business away from Iranian ports. So in competition to Gwadar, Iran has developed its own port called Chabahar with the help of India. Chabahar is located in Iranian Balochistan province of Seestan. India is also building 213 km long road to connect this Iranian port with Afghanistan. India is eyeing this Iranian port as its own shortest route to Central Asian markets and may be a counter balance to Chinese influence in Gwadar.

(2) India may also consider the Chinese influence in Gwadar as a move by China to encircle India, hence their interest in developing Iranian port of Chabahar.

Dimension Four: Baloch Nationalist Interests

(1) Now if you thought that was all, don’t forget the nationalist angle to Gwadar port. Baluchi people in whose province this port has been developed are not 100% behind the project. Their apprehensions are that other provinces will reap the real economic benefits of this development. There is also a resentment against the labour for the port coming from other provinces as well as the real estate boom that Gwadar is seeing is going to people from outside Balochistan. This has resulted in some violence in the area including some attacks even targeted against the Chinese engineers.

The attacks against the Chinese also gives rise to the speculation that our friendly neighbours may be inciting Balochi nationalism for their own economic agenda but there has to be some truth that Baluchis deserve more share in their province’s resources.

I really hope our political leadership use their acumen to pacify feelings of alienation among Balochis otherwise Pakistan will see the benefits from Gwadar port scaling down to none.”

Who To Blame For the Present Crisis in Pakistan ? Pakistan Army???

2011-04-30T04:39:00.000-07:00

By Anmol Asghar

Another day of agony and despair as Pakistanis live through a period of uncertainty but still I believe that army must not intervene in this crisis.

These are the kind of circumstances when army need to show their resolve of not meddling in the political sphere of the country.

No doubt that there will be people in the corridors of power and beyond who will be urging the army to step in and ‘save’ the country but let me tell you that country will only be saved if army stays away and let the politicians decide the future of the country, even if it means that there will be clashes on the streets of Islamabad.

With free media in place, people are watching with open eyes the parts being played by each and every individual in this current saga. They know who is right and who is wrong and they will eventually decide who stays in power when the next general election comes.

Who said that democracy was and orderly and pretty business ; it is anything but. Democracy by its very nature is chaotic and Pakistanis must give it at least as long as they gave to Musharraf before deciding its fate.

I support the reinstatement of Chief Justice not because when he comes back, my country will begin an era of peace and harmony. Far from it, Pakistan will function as it does no matter who is dispensing justice may be with some improvements. Building a democratic society where rule of law prevails does take time and Pakistan is no different but if the destination is clear and the path to destination is clear as well, than people will be prepared to wait for the promised day to arrive.

I also believe that whenever a new government takes over, we Pakistanis make the head of that government a symbol of all our ills and want to throw them away. It happened throughout the history of Pakistan and it is happening again. These days Zardari is the whipping boy for all the ills of our society and question comes to mind that who elected him, were they not the people of Pakistan who elected Zardari’ party. Now the Gallup poll after one year in government shows Zardari to have an approval rating of around 13%.

I believe that people of Pakistan are to blame that corrupt politicians like Zardari come to rule us through our own vote, or by not voting for the right candidate. How many people in Pakistan’s educated class go out on the election day and use their right to vote, I know, not many, as the total participation in last election was only around 36%.

How could a country where 64% of the eligible voters don’t vote blame the government that gets elected due to them not voting, why shout now when you did not bother to vote in the first place. How can we hope for wheat when we have sown something else or can we. I ask you the reader to answer this question.
