There are various types of Solar Charge Controllers and Smart Battery Chargers are available in Pakistani market. Solar battery chargers or charge controllers are efficient devices for standalone small 12-Volt DC Solar Power Systems.

There are two main types of Solar charge controllers thar are PWM Solar Controllers and MPPT Solar Charge Controllers.

Solar Charge Controller is such type of device which is designed to charge Battery or batteries from Solar Panels, its main feature is to protect battery from over-charge and over dis-charge, also to provide power to connected load.

To understand the efficiency and working of MPPT controller you have to read the following lines.

PWM solar charge controllers are basic type of controllers which are widely used to handle small battery and small load. Usually used in solar powered streetlights, its charges battery at Day and Power the light at night.

MPPT solar charge controllers can handle large number of loads, this type is usually used small standalone DC Solar systems where it charges battery at day during sunlight and also provide power, at the same time, to connected load such as DC Fans and DC lights in homes and provides backup power at night from battery.

However, PWM controllers can also provide power to the load while charging the battery at day but there are differences between them that are Efficiency, Charging Method, Suitability and Price.

MPPT technology is more advanced and efficient, it adjusts input to harvest maximum power from the solar array, while PWM operates at lower efficiency.

MPPT controllers are up to 30% more efficient. MPPT matches panel resistance to battery resistance, on the other side PWM pulls down panel voltage to match battery voltage.

MPPT controllers are suitable for larger solar systems, while PWM controllers are cost-effective and reliable for smaller systems.

PWM stands for Pulse Width Modulation while MPPT stands for Maximum Power Point Tracking, hope you can now easily understand the differences between PWM and MPPT technology.

In simple words the MPPT controller converts the extra voltages of the connected solar panel to Amperes to increase efficiency on the other side the PWM controllers are low in cost than MPPT.

Haier launched Solar AC in Pakistan, this hybrid AC is equipped with DC Inverter technology, and it supports direct solar panel connection.

How to solve mobile app Hik-Connect Error, Download and Installation

From last couple of days, some of our security cameras customers are reporting error in Hik-Connect mobile app. We have checked the mobile app on our smartphones and found no issue. App is running fine.

When confirming from customers, we have noticed that this was a temporary issue due to a recent update by Hikvision (the app developer), which was later fixed through another update.

How to Solve Hik-Connect Error ?

If you are still having the issue in app (any error or bug), just simply clear the cache of the app or uninstall the app from your phone and install again the latest version from appstore.hikvision.com (Hikvision's official app store). You can watch the following video for solution.

How to Download Hik Connect App ?

On Android

Just visit appstore.hikvision.com from browser of your phone (for example google chrome). Tap on "download Hik-Connect for end user". The downloading of .apk will start, now you can easily install hik-connect from apk file.

We decided to make the answer online for everyone. Our technical staff always guide new customers that both i.e. hard wired and wireless security cameras have their pros and cons.

Wireless cameras are truly not beneficial till the end of the electricity load-shedding in Pakistan, because you have to provide power to all cameras through UPS or centralized power system so wiring is required to power all cameras for their non-stop working.

If you have already UPS-enabled power sockets near to the locations where you want to install cameras then this a other case. :)

Click on CloudSEE icon to run the program.

Coming straight to the point, Solar inverters or Hybrid inverters, are designed to use the solar energy source as well as utility source (WAPDA). In this guide you will know about the working, settings, setup and installation of Hybrid Solar Inverter.

Working / Design:

Two main categories of hybrid inverters are Grid-Tie Solar Inverter and Off-Grid Solar Inverter. We are discussing about the Off-Grid solar inverter because they are simple and a wide variety of them are available in local market.

Yes you can RUN AC, Fridge, Iron, Fans, Lights, TV, Washing Machine, Water PUMP or any other electric appliance with solar power.

Power Saving:

Power, Energy or Cost Saving is the point for which i have explained all above.

Solar is not cheap than WAPDA

Yes, that's true, due to high cost of Deep-Cycle Batteries and Solar Batteries in Pakistani market, solar energy will cost you more than WAPDA (the Main or Utility provider in Pakistan).

Just assume you have installed 500-Watt Solar System with back-up time (12-hour in case of stand-alone solar system and 3.5 hour in case of hybrid solar system) and your inverter's efficiency is above 85 percent.

For 500-Watt stand-alone solar system you need minimum 600-Amp Battery Bank (four Batteries of 150-Amp each) and to charge this battery bank and to provide the power to connected load in day, if sun is available for 10-hour (assuming 7-AM to 5-PM for summer in Pakistan), you need minimum 900-Watt A-Grade solar panels. Enjoy power holidays in cloudy weather!

To run the same load with Hybrid Solar Inverter, 200-Amp Battery bank (two batteries of 100-Amp each) is must and to charge the battery bank and to provide the power the connected AC load at same time minimum 900-Watt solar panel is needed. Charging of Battery with generator or WAPDA source in cloudy weather.

Long backup time needs more batteries

Now just calculate the cost of Batteries in both cases. 150-Amp deep cycle dry battery will cost you Rs. 26,000/- approximately. If your system is designed and installed by qualified professionals your battery bank may lasts for more than four years. For stand alone system only the battery bank will cost you more than Rs. 110 per day for stand (including cloudy days and short sun time in winters).

On the other hand, one unit of WAPDA's costs you Rs. 8 (with subsidy including taxes). To run the same load (500-watts continuously run for 24-hours) on WAPDA for 24-hours will cost you Rs. 96 per day.

After achieving the desired temperature the AC will start maintaining that temperature by lowering its compressor motor speed and start consuming minimum power and this is the true power saving mode.

In simple words the speed of DC Inverter AC's compressor depends upon the temperature. On low speed compressor consumes minimum power.

DC Inverter AC Operation on UPS:

Yes, due to its low power consumption, the DC inverter AC can be easily operated on UPS, Pure-Sine-Wave UPS is recommended. Solar UPS or Hybrid Solar Inverters usually have pure sine wave output.

If you want to run your AC on UPS or Inverter then always connect it with a ups with 50% higher power rating. For 1-Ton AC use at least 1000-Watts UPS for 1.5-Ton AC use 2000-Watts UPS and for 2-Ton AC go for 3000-Watt UPS.

Always try to put the minimum load on the UPS on which the AC is connected. The more load on UPS or battery the lesser its life.

Is Solar Power Costs lower than WAPDA or Main ? Calculation says No

Yes, that's true, due to high cost of Deep-Cycle Batteries and Solar Batteries in Pakistani market, solar energy will cost you more than WAPDA (the Main or Utility provider in Pakistan).

Assume you have installed 500-Watt Solar System with back-up time (14-hour in case of stand-alone solar system and 3.5 hour in case of hybrid solar system) and your inverter's efficiency is above 85 percent.

Stand-Alone Solar System: 500-Watt for 24-Hour (14-Hour backup time + 10 Sunny Hours)

For 500-Watt stand-alone solar system you need minimum 800-Amp Battery Bank (Eight Batteries of 100-Amp each) and to charge this battery bank and to supply power to connected load in day, if sun is available for 10-hour (assuming 7-AM to 5-PM for summer in Pakistan), you need minimum 1000-Watt A-Graded solar panel bank. Enjoy power holidays in cloudy weather!

Hybrid Solar System: 500-Watts continuously run for 24-Hours

To run the same load with Hybrid Solar Inverter, 200-Amp Battery bank (two batteries of 100-Amp each) is must and to charge the battery bank and to provide the power the connected AC load at same time, minimum 900-Watt solar panel bank is needed. 200-Amp battery will provide 3.5 hours of maximum back-up time in case of load shedding. Charging of Battery with generator or WAPDA in cloudy weather.

Long backup time needs more batteries

Now just calculate the cost of Batteries in both cases. 100-Amp deep cycle dry battery will cost you Rs. 18,000/- approximately. If your system is designed and installed by qualified professionals your battery bank may lasts for more than four years. For stand alone system only the battery bank will cost you more than Rs. 120 per day based on four-year time period. (including cloudy days and short sun time in winters).

Initial solar system, installation or maintenance cost is not included in above calculation.

For hybrid system the cost you save from batteries will be payable to WAPDA for charging the batteries, in load-shedding, in night or in absence of Sun (cloudy weather) .

On the other hand, one unit of WAPDA's costs you Rs. 9 (with subsidy including taxes). To run the same load (500-watts continuously run for 24-hours) on WAPDA for 24-hours will cost you Rs. 108 per day.

Rs. 12 difference per day.

The ways to save your WAPDA electricity bill by utilizing solar energy system

There are the ways to save you electricity bill cost by properly harvesting solar energy. The two most cost effective methods are mentioned below:

Use 12-Volts DC System:

Everything is DC operated, DC Battery, DC Solar Panel, Solar Charge Controller and DC Load including DC Fans, DC Lights. No inversion / conversion losses.

A full sized DC Ceiling Fan is of 30-Watt.

100-Amp battery and 300-Watt panel is sufficient to handle 100-watt DC load for whole day. Cost you Rs. 12 per day.

Hybrid Solar Inverter with minimum Battery Bank and Maximum Solar Panels:

Use small battery bank only to utilize the solar energy in sunny hours, use inverter as normal UPS in night. This is the ideal use of hybrid inverter, low in cost and highly cost effective.

155-Amp battery is enough for this system. 500-watt AC load requires 50-AMP DC current to run via inverter, so 600-Watt solar panel will best in this situation.

Difference between 2G, 3G and 4G ?

4G is a successor technology of 3G technology and 4G provides more speed than 3G.

Internet Speed on 3G Network:

You can use 3G to WiFi routers to access 3G and 4G internet on laptops, computers and other WiFi supported devices.

Pakistani cellular operators namely Ufone, Zong, Telenor and Mobilink recently acquires 3G licenses and are planned to commercially launch the 3G service soon.

Before the commercial launch of 3G service in Pakistan, cellular operators are offering Free 3G trial services for their customers in main cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore & Karachi.

How to check if 3G service is available in my Area ?

This is a question every 3G supported mobile phone user is asking in Pakistan. The answer to this is; When you will be within 3G coverage area and if your handset displays “3G”, “3”, “H” or “H+” on the screen next to the network signal bars, it means that you can avail 3G services.

Handset displays LTE on the screen next to signals bar in case of Zong 4G.

Note:

You must also ensure that your phone settings are not set to ‘2G / GSM only’. Click for the Settings to receive 3G Service in Pakistan.

Telenor Pakistan users can dial *7799# on their phones to check for 3G coverage in their Area.

Settings to Receive HSPA / 3G signals on your Mobile Phone

Cellular service providers in Pakistan are now equipped to offer 3G / 4G service in the country. These are the 3G settings which will enable your device to receive HSPA 3G services and signals.

First of all check your mobile phone if it is 3G supported or not. You can check this on your smartphone manual or on manufacturer’s website by looking for your smartphone specification.

If your handset supports 3G Service:

Goto -> Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode

Enable GSM / WCDMA Preffered.

After enabling these settings you are ready to receive 3G signals and service. Now click to Check for Availability of 3G Service in your Network Coverage Area.

If you are in 3G Service coverage area you can access 3G services.

3G Service Providers in Pakistan are Ufone, Telenor, Mobilink and PTCL EVO while 4G Service Providers in Pakistan is Zong.

DIY: Students Project Battery Level Indicator with Circuit Diagram

Battery level indicator is a type of indicator which detects the voltages of a battery and shows the condition of battery on seven-segment display or on LED level bar.

I have got a chance to make battery level indicator as my university semester project and I decided to share the procedure on this blog.

Today I am going to share my experience of speeding-up EVO internet connection settings without using any external antenna.

There are several ways of speeding-up EVO network speed comprises of external antennas and etc.

This method will help you to increase your internet browsing speed on EVO just by changing your DSN server address.

Speed-Up PTCL EVO Internet:

Just change your PTCL' EVO DSN to Google's Public DNS.

How To ?

Plug in your EVO device, GoTo Settings, GoTo NetWork and click on Use DNS then enter the following DNS IP Addresses.

Google's Public DNS

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

Try it and you will feel a difference in your browsing speed as well as your downloading and video streaming speed.

PTCL EVO External Antenna:

If you are not getting good signal strength then you can use external antenna.

First check the signal strength on your roof top or in open area (or where you want to install antenna) without using any antenna. If you are receiving good signal power on roof without any external antenna then you can install antenna at that place and extend / connect your antenna to EVO via cable.

If you are not getting enough signals at the place (without antenna) where you want to install antenna then don't use antenna it will not help you.
