I have a Facebook friend who joined OrganoGold several months ago. I asked him about the company but when he said it was healthy coffee I said thank you for the information but no thank you. See I haven't had a sip of coffee for almost 6 years because the last cup I did have made me all shake-y and dizzy so I figured because I wasn't a huge fan of the taste anyway that that I should give it up and find something else to drink in the morning instead. Only I never thought I would be the one drinking it.

I asked my parents if they could review the coffee for me when it arrived. They tried it but their response was pretty vague. So I decided that I would have to try it the next morning. Even if it meant making a cup of coffee smelling it and taking a sip and someone else drinking it. Well I did make the coffee the next morning but that sip didn't make me feel shake-y or dizzy and while I still do not like the smell of coffee it wasn't completely overpowering it was actually nice getting to drink something hot that was more substantial then a cup of tea and more filling.

I have found OrganoGold to be less bitter then other coffee, more calming, filling (I don't feel like I would need or want mulitple cups at one time), and just a nice way to start my day. I haven't had a cup every morning but more often then not I have since opening the box. I have been drinking the Cafe Late which has a total of 90 calories and comes with milk and sugar already in the packet. There are no wheat or soy ingredients in the coffee which is great for me considering I am allergic to both. I can tell you this will not give you the caffeine rush a regular cup of coffee would but it is healthier for you and tastes better. I do plan on ordering more which comes as a complete shock to me because I just had no desire to even drink a cup as a taste test. In case you were wondering I cannot taste the Ganoderma in the coffee. I just know it makes me feel calm and ready to face the day but not like I am going to fly out of my chair.

Burger King French Fries Now Gluten Free NOT Soy Free

For those of you who are Gluten Free who were doing the happy dance at the news that Burger King can now be a place for you to enjoy French Fries you will be happy to know that the new ingredient guide has come out and they are indeed Gluten Free. However please be aware for those of you with sensitivity to Soy that they most likely contain Soybean Oil and so are still off of your list of foods you can eat when hanging out with friends or on trips with family.

Here is the list of ingredients in their new recipe
FRENCH FRIES (Fried): Potatoes, Soybean Oil or Canola and Palm Oil, Modified Potato Starch, Rice Flour, Potato Dextrin, Salt, Leavening (Disodium Dihydrogen Pyrophosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate), Dextrose, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate added to preserve natural color.

Pamper Yourself Gluten Free Vegetarian Split Pea Soup

Whenever I visit my parents I get chosen as head chef and wind up doing a lot of cooking. One of my favorite things to make probably because I love it is Split Pea Soup. And that is exactly what I am making today a big batch of Split Pea Soup. My directive was to use as many carrots as possible in whatever soup I decided to make. Since I know my dogs LOVE the carrots from Split Pea Soup I decided that is what I would make.

Recipe:
1 lb of Dry Green Split Peas rinsed
1 large onion chopped
4 cloves of garlic chopped (can use garlic powder)
4 carrots chopped
oil
salt & pepper to taste
7 cups of water to start with

Optional:
1 stalk of celery
Chili Garlic Sauce from Huy Fong Foods
For non Gluten Free / Soy Free Eaters you can add your favorite Vegetarian Hot Dog 30 minutes before serving

Brown onions and garlic in oil in soup pot. Don't worry if they start to stick to the pot you can always add a bit of water to un-stick them and the extra caramelized onions just makes the soup taste better. Once the onions have started to brown add the carrots and if you are using celery add that now as well. Cook until the onions are very caramelized and the carrots become vibrant orange. Add the split peas. I don't know if this actually does anything but I toast the split peas before adding water. Once you feel the split peas are toasted enough add the 7 cups of water and bring to a boil. Keep an eye on the soup in case there is a lot of starch in the split peas so it doesn't boil over. I tend to keep it boiling pretty vigorously for about a half hour and then lower the light and let it cook for several hours. (at least 2 but you can have this soup cooking all day as long as you keep an eye on it.) You will want to make sure it doesn't get too thick as the split peas break down just add more water.

My mom is not what you would call a cook in fact she has very few "meals" she prepared for us when we were growing up but she could always figure out how to open those little bags of Split Pea Soup Mixes. Now that I am older and have developed a number of food allergies I can no longer use the just add water and boil mix bags and have to make it from scratch.

There is no reason that you couldn't make this in a crock pot and brown the onions and garlic right in the crock pot while you are getting ready in the morning. The before you leave put in the carrots and other ingredients and cover with water and allow to cook while you are at work or running around with the kids. You can even put this up the night before and have it nice and hot for a late wake up on the weekend.

Pamper Yourself Easy Zucchini Carrot Latkes

Great for Hanukkah or all year long an alternative to the traditional potato latkes you are used to eating.

Recipe:

3 carrots
3 zucchini
1 large onion
3 - 4 eggs
1/4 cup of wheat flour can substitute Masa Corn Flour for Gluten Free Version
1 tsp salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Oil

Grate the carrots, onions, and zucchini. Drain out the excess liquid. mix in the egg, flour, and seasoning. Form and place into a hot pan with oil. Fry until golden brown.

Saw this video on the Udi's Gluten Free Video Channel and wanted to share. They look absolutely amazing and so moist something hard to do with Gluten Free Flour products. Will have to try these for sure!

Ingredients:
6 slices Udi's Gluten Free Cinnamon Raisin Bread, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 cup heavy cream or nondairy creamer
½ cup canned pumpkin puree
2 eggs or equivalent egg replacement
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
⅛ teaspoon salt
½ cup pecan pieces, toasted (optional)

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 12-cup muffin pan.
2. Place the bread pieces in a large bowl. Add the cream, pumpkin, eggs, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice, and brown sugar to the bread. Mix until all ingredients are combined. Add chopped pecans and salt. Let sit until the liquid is absorbed, about 10 minutes.
3. Divide the custard mixture into each cup until about two-thirds full. Bake until the liquid has set, about 25-30 minutes.
