5 Favourite Everyday Hair Essentials

1. Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum

I bought this after my hairdresser always uses it to create a sleek straight blowdry – a very small amount of it on wet hair smooths, conditions and adds shine.

It smells delish, isn’t at all heavy like some serums and really helps create a slick blow dry. You can buy online from Paul Mitchell.

2. Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave-in Conditioner

I’ve always loved Aussie hair products and as I’ve been growing my hair longer in the last few months, this leave-in conditioner has been a god send. Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave-in Conditioner conditions, nourishes and leaves it tangle-free.

I spray the ends of my hair whilst it’s wet, also protecting it pre blow dry. Aussie products can be bought online at Boots.

3. John Frieda Frizz Ease Dream Curls Curl Perfecter

When I want to enhance my wavy hair and create sleek waves/curls, I spritz my hair with Frizz Ease Dream Curls Curl Perfecter. It’s not sticky or greasy and really helps create a curly look without the frizz.

I apply it on damp hair and scrunch it into my hair – then either let dry naturally or use a hairdryer on a low setting. Frizz Ease products can be bought at Boots.

4. Umberto Giannini Flirty Curls Scrunching Jelly

Another great product to help enhance natural curls – this scrunching jelly from Umberto Giannini is a fab product. It lasts for ages because only a small amount of jelly is needed  - I apply a small amount on damp curly hair, and scrunch in for a tousled curly look. It helps define the curls without making your hair fluffy. Umberto Giannini products can be bought at Boots.

5. Elnett Satin Flexible Hold Hairspray

Whether I’m wearing my hair straight or curly, I always finish up with a spray of Elnett Satin Flexible Hold Hairspray.  It smells great, gives good lasting hold without being too stiff. It also keeps hair soft and brushes out really easily. Elnett hairsprays can be bought from Superdrug.

The polish is glides on very easily and dries quite quickly. It doesn’t have quite the opaque shine that I like in polishes, but nonetheless it’s a nice classic shade and doesn’t chip very easily.

1. Phoebe Coleman – Love Me Tender Ring – £95.83

I used to all about big chunky rings, but have recently discovered the joys of more delicate jewellery and this gorgeous fine, gold heart ring totally fits the bill! I have this super cute Karen Walker cat ring that definitely needs some little ring friends, so this heart ring would be just perfect!

2. DKNY – Eva Print Ankle Skinny Trouser With Seam Details – £157.50

I absolutely love the poppy print of these DKNY trousers and love an ankle length trouser as well!

3, Ash – Black Emma Fur Buckle Boot – £93.33 Was £187.50 (50% off)

I love a bit of fur and as we’re going into winter over here in NZ furry boots are sounding pretty cosy and lovely right about now! Also they share my name, so how can I resist?!

4. Vivienne Westwood Accessories – Snake Print Business Card Holder – £60

I’ve just had to order some new business cards at my day job, when I came across this snakeskin beauty! Perfect for cheering up a work meeting!

5. Chelsea Leopard Cat Eye Sunglasses – House Of Harlow 1960 – £108.33

I have been lusting over these House of Harlow sunglasses for so long (in fact I think I may have even posted about them previously!). They’re just the perfect shape and perfect tortoise shell print.

I’ve bought a couple of things from My-Wardrobe.com and the service was great, fast and the packaging is just lovely as well, so I can recommend them highly!

The makeup from the Met Gala 2012 was a mix of uber-nude makeup and super dark vampy lips, and the hair followed suit with two completely different trends, some stars sported super sleek up-dos while others went for loose feminine waves.

The standout for me from a hair and makeup point of view, was Camilla Belle (top right) who had perfect super dark vampy lipstick paired with minimal makeup for the rest of her face and a gorgeous vintage looking, sleek up-do. In at a close second was Kate Bosworth (bottom right), with her perfectly made-up face and simple plaited top-knot.

Out of the stars who chose nude makeup, Gwyneth Paltrow’s stood out for me (unusually as I’m not a huge Gwyneth fan!). I also loved her smooth low bun.

As for the worst hair and makeup from the Met Gala 2012, there were a few stars who underwhelmed, but my worst hair award goes to Julianne Hough, her hair would be fabulous for a low key night out, but the Met Gala is high-fashion darling and that hair is not!

My worst makeup award goes to Vera Wang, who looks so washed out and pale especially with that curtain of hair!

Maybelline One by One mascara brush

Along with lip balm, mascara is my absolute must-have makeup product, so I’m always on the look out for new and fabulous mascaras, that I don’t have to spend a fortune on and Maybelline One by One mascara definitely fits the bill!

Maybelline One by One mascara has a fairly unique brush with loads of little bristles, that promise to reach every last little lash…

So does it work…? Here is my before picture with no mascara.

This picture was actually taken at the end of the day after a full day of wearing the mascara, and you can see, it’s lasted really well with only minimal flaking. Maybelline One by One mascara adds really good length and volume to lashes. It is a tiny bit clumpy, but gives such good results that I just don’t care!

I’ve been getting loads of people asking me about what mascara I’m using since I started wearing Maybelline One by One mascara, so for me it’s a definite keeper!

I’ve tried OPI Care to Danse? from the collection and it is very, very sheer – it looks like a french manicure nail polish. Very pretty if you like that sort of thing, but as I suspected, not for me!

Rimmel 60 Seconds Blue Eyed Girl

The polish is lovely and thick, making it glide on very easily. It’s a very similar shade to OPI Ogre the Top Blue, but slightly cheaper!

Claudia Schiffer for L’Oréal Paris Mega Volume Collagen Mascara

So in the promo pic above left, it’s pretty clear the lovely Claudia is sporting a fairly hefty set of fake eyelashes, so I was really keen to check out how L’Oréal Paris Mega Volume Collagen Mascara actually performs!

So without further ado, here are my before and after pictures from using L’Oréal Paris Mega Volume Collagen Mascara.

Well these pictures speak for themselves really – the L’Oréal Paris Mega Volume Collagen Mascara has added fabulous volume, length and definition to my eye lashes without any major clumping to worry about (I only have mascara on my top lashes).

Obviously L’Oréal Paris Mega Volume Collagen Mascara can’t give you eyelashes that look like a full set of fake eyelashes, but it is a really good, reasonably priced mascara.

The mascara also lasts really well throughout the day. One of my other favourite mascaras at the moment is Maybelline One by One (which I’ll post about asap), which also give fabulously lush lashes, but doesn’t have the same staying power as L’Oréal Paris Mega Volume Collagen Mascara.

This mascara isn’t available in the UK yet, but as soon as it is, I really do recommend checking it out!
