Optical Image stabilization and Night Scenery

This was taken with Night Scenery mode and image stabilization 2.

Other cameras have Night scenery mode, however the Lumix Optical Image Stabilization feature means you can take some pretty spectacular photos that aren't normally possible without using a tripod.

Which one to get: Black or Silver?

When I set out to buy the FX9 I first wanted black. The sales man assured me that it was the most popular model. I thought it looked cool and would go well with my black iPod video. However he also said that the black model tends to get greasy from fingers, just like the iPod Video as well. I asked to see the silver version and personally I knew it was the one for me. It looks much more elegant than the photos do and feels really sturdy in the hand.

Auto bracketing tutorial

As I mentioned before with exposure effects you can do some interesting effects. The Lumix also gives you the possibility to take 3 shots with different exposures. You hit the up arrow twice and you get a screen which allows you to select the range of exposures you want to take. When you hit the trigger button it then takes 3 different photos at 3 different exposures. Have a look below:

While the FX9 has great auto exposure, sometimes you want to change the exposure a bit for an effect.

In this photo for example i wanted to exagerate the hot sunny day. To do this I overexposed the picture a bit.

The FX9 is the easiest compact I have ever used for doing this. Coupled with the instant review on the LCD you can do stuff in the field that only pros did before.

When you are in the camera mode of the camera simply hit the up button. It has a tiny + and - icon on it.

Here you can move back and forth to increase or lower the exposure of the shot. You will see instant feedback on the screen, which is really helpful.

Don't do what I did the first time I used this feature and assume that it would reset back to normal when I switched the camera off. You need to remember to change the setting back to 0 afterwards. Luckily it is really intuitive and quick to do so.

This is an example of the outstanding quality of the night portrait scenery mode .

The image stabilizer works it's magic while the autoexposure and flash handles everything else.

Besides setting night portrait mode, there were no other settings or post processing done.

I recently bought the Panasonic Lumix FX9 Camera, which I think is the best damn camera in this price bracket.

Rather than write a traditional review i will blog about my experiences and post pictures taken with it.

The picture in this post was taken on Luquillo beach Puerto Rico. Using standard settings.
