Lions, Tigers, and Wolves, Oh My! Interview With Shifter Romance Author Tressie Lockwood

I remember my very first romance novel, "The Duke and The Preacher's Daughter". My mom gave it to me my first year of high school. It was the perfect story to allow me to give birth to my innocent flights of romance. After all, it's all about prince charming sweeping the young maiden off of her feet.

I'm much older now, but I still love to curl up with a great romance novel. The difference is I want prince charming to be a tall, sexy shifter. Paranormal romance has become my flavor of choice and one of my very favorite authors is Tressie Lockwood.

I was cruising through my Kindle app and came across a title called "Stripped Bear". This wasn't my first shifter romance novel, but this was the first one where the female love interest was a sister! After reading "Stripped Bear", I was hooked. I did what a do best, I searched the internet for any and all books by Tressie Lockwood and went on a mission to read them.

Tressie has become one of my paranormal romance authors of choice because her stories are extremely well written. All of her characters are fully developed the plot lines are unpredictable, and they are so steamy they'll leave you with a third degree burn....the good kind of burn.

When I had the opportunity to interview Tressie I jumped right on it.

Pandora- Hey Tressie! Tell me how you got started writing romance novels?

Tressie-I read romance books as a young teen every single day, so it was in me, but I never tried writing it. I wrote other things until I was in my mid-thirties. I was sitting at my desk, hating my job, and thought , why don't I get back into writing, to find some satisfaction. I came across a small press with a submissions page and thought, I can probably do that. I did, and they accepted my work. I was shocked, believe me. Lol.

Pandora - Who is your favorite author?

Tressie - My favorite author is Juliett Blackwell. I love her Witchcraft Mystery series.

Pandora-How do you develop the ideas for your books?

Tressie - Sometimes I get new ideas and new twists when I think of what's already been done. Sometimes I will form an idea from listening to friends and family or watching TV. I may see a man get on a bus or plane and think what would happen if he was a shifter? What kind would he be? What's his life like? Who does he know? Is he married? Kids? In love? And the ideas start flowing. Even as I write this, I've just stirred up new ideas. I need to ask myself these questions all the time!

Pandora - When you sit down to write, what are your "must haves"?

Tressie - Quiet! I can't write with noise. It slows me down a lot. Every once and a while, I can listen to music while writing a scene, but I don't need music to set my mood because I'm either finished with a particular scene before the song is over, or I'm not done. I don't want to stop my flow to change a song because it's too upbeat when I need to be slow and easy. Another thing I need is discipline. Too many days, I spend way too much time surfing the Net or on Facebook reading other people's posts when I should be writing. It's not easy. This is a serious job. I love it, but it's still work. The most important thing I need is my notes. I'm a plotter through and through. If I don't plot, I suffer as I write, and it should be more fun than that.

Pandora - Which one of your books in your favorite and why?

Tressie - Since I think we're focusing on shifter here, I will tell you the favorite of my shifter books. Rather, my favorite shifter series is the Haven Series. That series includes Tiger Bound, Tiger Born, and Tiger Betrayed. One of the aspects of shifters I forgot to mention is that they are fated mates usually, and they love with a white-hot intensity. In this series, I have Heath and Deja, a couple who go through hell to be together, and we believe they are fated mates as shifters, but there're a lot of twists and turns to that. Heath is sexy, he's angry and protective of Deja to the point of killing the enemy. But he also hurts her deeper than she can ever imagine. This series is an adventure, a romance, a mystery, a thriller. I love it so much and think everyone should read it! Haha.

Pandora - Do you have any input on your cover art? And how do they find the hotties for the covers?

Tressie - Yes, for most of my covers I have input over what I want. Sometimes, I tell the cover artist what I want, and it's a battle like they have their own vision. At that time, I give in and hope for the best. Haha. The cover artists use stock photos that are available to everyone in the industry and others.

Pandora - Which one of your books or series would you like to see made into a film?

Tressie - Well, actually I already have one book being made into a movie right now. It's a long process, but exciting too. Something Unexpected, a contemporary book I wrote, is being made into a movie. Last year when this idea for a movie first came up, I did want to choose one of my shifter stories, but the project is super low budget and independent, so I doubt the effects would impress like True Blood. Maybe one day I'll get a movie from a shifter book, and it would definitely be from the Haven series.

Pandora - There's been a huge surge in Shifter Romance. Why do you think people are so attracted to this genre?

Tressie - I love shifter romance. I think people are attracted to it because it's out of the norm. A lot of people read to get away from the boring routine life can become sometimes. We've all been reading contemporary forever. We've seen it all. But then you throw in a sexy man who can turn into a dangerous animal, it gets spicy again. Your heart pounds, you start having new experiences. So much can go wrong--and right! Plus, shifter characters can break the rules, get angrier (kill people) and get away with it. What's not to love?

Pandora - What do you think about all of the paranormal romance based shows on television? i.e. The Vampire Diaries, Bitten, Lost Girl, True Blood (even though they're going into their last season)

Tressie - I don't watch a lot of regular TV, but I do watch True Blood. I used to watch Lost Girl. OMG, Dyson, played by Canadian actor Kris Holden-Ried, is super-hot as werewolf. That's how they should be, not like weak lame werewolves in True Blood. (This is for you Kris Holden-Reid! Tressie thinks you're the perfect wolf shifter! We knew that though didn't we) I think these types of shows are exciting, to see with real people what I've been reading and writing in books. However, I think words and my imagination can take me a lot farther. Don't get me wrong. I love what they are able to do with TV and effects.

Pandora - If you were stranded on an island with a sexy hot shifter, what kind of shifter would it be?

Tressie - Definitely a wolf shifter. No matter how many types of shifters are written in romance, I think the one that stands out the strongest and the most alpha is the wolf. He's sexy, and when he's in a pack, he knows how to take charge. When he's alone, he's still hot! How can you beat that? If I were stranded, my wolf shifter guy would take care of me--in every way I needed him to. ;)

Pandora - What is the title of the last book that you read?

Tressie - The book I'm currently reading is called An Appointment With Murder. I thought I'd give the author a try. As you can see, I love reading mystery when I'm not writing romance. :)

Pandora - What is the last song that played on your favorite listening device?

Tressie - I have a small collection of songs I listen to on YouTube. Sometimes I listen to the radio in the car, but not often because I can't stand commercials and people talking. Lol. So the last song I came across on YouTube was an old one, and I saved it! With Arms Wide Open by Creed. Love it!

Pandora - Is there a genre of books that you would like to write that you haven't already written?

Tressie - Yes, as seen above, I love mystery. If I could make it in writing mystery, I would do it. Love it, and sometimes I want a break from all the sex I write. Lol. Of course, because of my love of mystery, I will write the unexpected in my romance books, twists and turns to catch the reader unaware.

Pandora -Tell us about your fans

Tressie - My fans are awesome. They are mind-boggling. Lol. I mean I get that when I see a famous person I have admired, I go a little gaga. But I'm me. I have had fan boys and fan girls get excited over me and my books. They want autographs and pictures with me. It thrills and confuses me. Lol. I love it. I always think how can I please my readers and give them more of what they want. I love my readers very much and thank them from the bottom of my heart.

That reminds me of a little tidbit I will share with you. I am writing a series of a group of three brothers and one cousin who are billionaires because of starting a stock-photo website. This is based on a real life thirty-something billionaire who did just that. My new series, if you're interested is called The Marquette Family. The first book, Creed, will be out in September, 2014.

Jeremy LaLonde - Origins Of An Indie Film Director

We clamor to movie theaters, pre-set our favorite cable prime movie channel, or we head off to our favorite video store to purchase a copy of the new release of our favorite film. The directors of these films have become house hold names, some of them even garnering a place in the annals of "Trivial Pursuit© ".

They all had to start somewhere, but often times we don't know the origins of their journey not just as film makers, but story tellers. They were all at one time "young someones" who had a story that they wanted to tell and a specific way in which they wanted to tell it. George Lucas, most notably know for "Star Wars", created his first film an independent documentary called, "The Rain People".

Peter Jackson, the brilliant mind that brought "The Lord of The Rings Trilogy" to life, made an indie piece called "Bad Taste" as his first film with a $20.00 hand made steadi-cam.

Sam Raimi, who helped bring Spiderman to life from the comic pages to the big screen, cut his teeth on a 30 minute short titled "Within The Woods", which was later evolved into "The Evil Dead".

Spike Lee, what can I say?! This man is a BEAST! (which translates into he's extremely talented) Spike's first film to truly gain critical acclaim, was Malcom X. Spikes first film was....come on say it with me, that's right, "She's Gotta Have It".

M. Night Shyamalan, who I'm very proud to say makes his home in the Philadelphia area, made his presence known within the film industry with "The Sixth Sense". M.N.S's first film was titled "Praying With Anger"; he also starred in the film.

Steven McQueen who is best known as the visionary behind Oscar winning film "12 Years A Slave", a film that still has me reeling, expressed himself first in a indie project called "Bear".

Those of you that know me, know that when somethings piques my interest I dig in with both feet. I'll scour the internet for hours trying to familiarize myself with object du'jour. A few month's ago I literally fell into love with a show called "Lost Girl". Now, that being said I don't know ANYONE who's seen this show and hasn't fallen head-over-heels in love with actor Kris Holden-Ried, who play the character of Dyson. Well, one thing led to another, and after several cups of coffee and almost just as many hours on the internet I thought I had seen everything KHR.

It wasn't until I caught a tweet that said two of his films where now available for purchase, "The Untitled Work of Paul Shepard", and "Sex After Kids". So I did what any warm blooded fan would do. I bought them! After watching both films I was in love again, but this time with the films themselves. Both of them ebb and flow so smoothly between slightly *ahem* adult humor, to moments so poignant, that you find yourself with almost not time to dry your tears of laughter before you're shedding tears of another kind.

So it stands to reason that I wanted to get to know Indie Film director Jeremy LaLonde a little bit better. After a bit of stalking on Twitter, mostly harmless *wink*, I decided to approach Jeremy with the idea of an interview. Thank goodness he said yes.

Merja Asks: What was the main reason you wanted to become a film maker?

JL - I’ve been a storyteller all my life. When I was four I’d make little picture books and I had this awesome teacher that would laminate them for me. I was always writing when I was a kid. I had notebooks full of ongoing stories, characters. I’d play by myself for hours with my toys, constructing a story for them as I went along. I had a uncle with a massive film collection, and so I would borrow a dozen movies at a time, and my parents didn’t really audit what I was watching, so I watched everything - I literally could not get enough. In high school I got involved in the drama program big time and acted, wrote and directed plays and had my own theatre company in the summer where I’d do original scripts that myself and a friend co-wrote. And at one point I knew I had to make a conscious choice for a medium to focus on - and I chose film for a variety of reasons - mostly, I think, because it had the less limitations on it as an art form. I mean, I’m a storyteller largely because I have no other skills - this is what I live and breath and love.

PC- I fell in love with your films after stumbling across the film "The Untitled Work of Paul Shepard", and I went on to watch "Sex After Kids"; both incredible films. If you had to choose a singular favorite moment from each film what would it be and why?

JL - Yikes! Favourite? It’s impossible; and, if I answered this five minutes from now I’d likely make a different choice. I almost want to be a jerk and not answer this, ‘cause it’s really hard to choose - there’s a bit of Sophie’s choice wrapped up in that question… In Paul Shepard I think the “fluffer” scene and also the break-up scene make me particularly happy ‘cause…. because they were both difficult to do, for different reasons - and I’m ultimately just happy that they work. For Sex After Kids… damn… I’m going to be a jerk on this one and say I just can’t choose.

PC - In TUWOPS, the ending quite frankly blew my mind. What was the impetus for the ending?

SPOILER ALERT! Well, it’s a film with a lot of talking, so there’s something nice about ending it silently. It’s also a film about modern relationships and people have different feelings than they did a generation ago, so I think it’s nice to let people bring their own feelings to a film like this and how it ends. Some people come up and tell me that they’re glad that Paul and Sam didn’t get together in the end, and others say “I wish I could have heard him proposing to her.” So clearly it means different things to different people, which makes me happy - that was the goal and it turned out well.

PC - My favorite character in Sex After Kids was Vanessa, played by Amanda Brugel. Amanda actually won an award for this role right? Tell me about working with her?

JL - Amanda won the ACTRA Award for it - which is pretty impressive for a little film like ours, especially given some of the amazing people she was up against. There was no political reason for us winning the award other than Amanda gave an amazing performance and she deserved to be recognized - and in a way I think represents a pretty outstanding cast in general. I had an open door policy with this film and encourage the actors, especially those who were parents, to volunteer their own stories and experiences to the film and so there’s a lot of Amanda in the part of Vanessa. She really wanted to be real in it and tell her ego to

“eff off ”.

PC - I'm going to throw in two questions for all of the Kris Holden-Reid fans out there! LOL! In Sex After Kids Kris' first scene was a doozy! Lots of skin there, tell us about that day of shooting.

JL - That day… well we shot that scene in the condo that Kris was living in at the time, and as you can imagine we kept the crew in the room pretty minimal. Kris and Christine had previously worked together so that always helps. It’s interesting, there are a lot of sex scenes in the film, but I never really treated them like sex scenes - none of them are overly sexy - really we worked hard to make them work as honest and comedic. Kris is so great in the film, and what I love about it is that I think it really captures him as a person.

PC - In TUWOPS, Kris' plays the title character Paul. The evolution of Paul was beautifully executed by KHR. Did both of you collaborate on the character or did you have a very clear vision of where you wanted the character to go before casting?

JL - I spent a lot of time work-shopping that script, and that’s the project I met Kris on. We offered him the role and that was about it. Kris brought this really boyish enthusiasm to it and made Paul loveable despite his obvious flaws. No small challenge. I’m really proud of his work in that film.

PC - Tell us about "Bastards", the new short film that you're working on.

JL - Bastards is all finished now - we shot it last November and it was the opening night short at the Canadian Film Festival back in March. We’re not doing a whole lot of festivals with it mostly just because the intention was always to use it to pitch the concept as a TV series, so we’re just in the early stages of that. It’s about an aging rock star who finds out he’s dying and invites his illegitimate children to live with him with the promise of making one of them his heir. We had a great cast (including Julian Richings, Ennis Esmer, Tara Spencer-Nairn, Paul Amos, Tommie-Amber Pirie, Suresh John, Maya Lowe, & Andrew Lewis), which if we can make it into a series, I’m hoping we can retain. So stay tuned for more news on that. We have a full length pilot we’ve shot, but eventually a nine minute version will be up on the BravoFACT website, which was the amazing organization that made it possible for us to make the film.

PC - After having the opportunity to view "Bastards", and knowing that your goal is to shop it around as a pilot, tell us how different it will be to have so much more time to round out your characters than the typical 90-120 minutes of a film?

JL - Television is sort of the granddaddy of character based storytelling, so I’m looking forward to having that opportunity if we can get the series going. I’m also a firm believer of not having a lot of filler, so for me the challenge will be keeping the arc for the characters on track. That said, television is more honest in terms of how slowly people change - it’s more honest in a sense. That and it’s hard for me to get excited about a series idea unless I can see several seasons ahead in the story and know that it’s got room to grow and ways to keep it fresh and exciting. So many series blow their wad on the first season. I’m sure it’ll evolve and change, but I’ve got a pretty strong idea already what the story of Jack Cage and his Bastards will be.

PC - Let's talk fans! You, your films, your actors, all of you have a so many really cool fans. What do you like most about your fans?

JL - I don’t think I’d be doing this interview without them, really. I can’t speak for my actors, but the success of my projects has a lot to do with the word of mouth garnered by the fans of the projects. I’m really fortunate to live in a time where you can connect easily with the people who support your work. The simple answer would be that, my favourite thing is that they exist and that they care. But really, my favourite thing is a selfish one - it’s knowing that the work connects with people, and that makes all the challenges worth it.

PC - What are the biggest challenges of being an independent film maker?

JL - Getting people to know you made a film and that it’s available for purchase :) The market is over-saturated and it’s often difficult to cut through the noise. We’ve been very fortunate to have the awesome support we have. Financing a film is difficult and its own beast, but I think getting it out into the world is a beast - especially since distribution models are constantly shifting and changing.

PC - Some of the world’s best film work to hit the big screens, as well as some of today's major directors evolved from the Indie Film Circuit. What do you find to be the best thing and the hardest thing about being an Indie Film director?

JL - The best thing, I suppose, is the freedom. When you’re making films on the cheap people bug you a lot less, and there’s less people to answer to. I’ve been fortunate in the two feature films I’ve made so far I’ve been able to make exactly the films I’ve wanted to. I’m a collaborator and value others input, but it’s nice to be able to have the final say and have it all be your vision - that will change as budgets increase - but hopefully I’ll have gained some trust in people from my pass efforts. There’s lots of difficult things - you don’t have money to throw at problems, you never have enough time, enough days, but somehow you make it work because you have to. The most difficult is, really, just making sure people know it exists.

PC - If there was one film that you could choose to re-make, what would it be and why, and who would you cast as the main characters?

JL – Arg!… I’m not good at stuff like this. I prefer to do original stuff - there’s some books and comics I’m interested in doing as films, but those aren’t really re-makes. I’d love to see the Harry Potter books redone as a television series - maybe a decade or so from now - though I’m not likely the person to do that… I just don’t know - I mean any films that I love I wouldn’t want to touch, so really I’d have to pick a film that had a great concept but shitty execution. I’d love to see a version of Scott Pilgrim where the story was similar to the comics in that it takes place over a long-term relationship rather than just a week or so - I think what was really beautiful about that story got lost in that adaptation somehow… I’m not doing well at this at all… I think that if you’re going to remake something you’ve got to say something new about the idea, you need to add to the conversation. I just can’t think of something to be honest. Sorry!

PC - Where do you see yourself going from here?

JL - Well, I’ve got several projects that are on the go and close to getting going. Keep an eye out for a crowd funding campaign at some point this summer - if all goes well I’ll be in production with something this fall. And I’m developing a few things for television, which is a medium that is really exciting to me and hope to work in as a writer/director more in the near future.

PC - Tell me one thing about you that the general public doesn't know?

JL - I’m a pretty open book, especially if you follow me on twitter (@LaLondeJeremy), I have very little pride. I’m nerdy and obsessive compulsive about things. I had a week hiatus recently and was caught up on everything, so I decided to teach myself how to draw. I like mastering new skills like that and become really obsessive about it - it was like that with cooking a few years back. I just dive into something full force for better or worse.

PC - What was the last song that was playing on your listening device of choice?

JL - The Jason Collett re-mix of Stars’ ‘Reunion’ from the album “Do You Trust Your Friends”

PC - Favorite book?

JL - Don’t have one, really. I don’t have a lot of spare reading time either, so if I’m reading something it’s usually because it’s for reference for something I’m working on, or if it’s to consider it for adaptation. As a fan of writing I love Richard Stark’s Parker novels - they make me want to do a crime film one day. I love the Walking Dead comic books. There’s a lot of authors that I love, but there’s no one thing that I gravitate too - I love all genres and styles.

PC - Must have snack food?

JL - If I have a plate of nachos in front of me, I’m a happy man.

PC - What is your biggest fear?

JL - That someone finds out my biggest fear, obviously.

PC – Jeremy, if at the end of your life you could only be remembered for one thing, what would you want that to be?

JL - That I cared and didn’t half-ass anything.

Kris Holden Ried (KHR) Warming Up a Rainy Day

Hello beautiful people, I'm sitting in my office on a seriously gray, rainy day, sipping on Chai tea, and listening to Allen Stone - Vibe With Yah. Don't get me wrong, I know Mother Earth needs the Spring rain, but if you know me, you know these kinds of days always inspire me to write; so here I am sitting at my computer. I decided to play with one of my knew faves, Kris Holden-Ried, or KHR to his beloved fans.

Let me clarify what I mean by "Playing With" for all of you Pandora's Caja newbies. I love scouring the internet when researching my faves. Looking for new info, pics and resources. So today I'm playing with KHR. This is my second post in Latidos on KHR, the first "Kris Holden-Ried, Lost Girl's Sexy Factor" was a quick one that I jetted off one day before I left work.

Kris Holden-Ried plays Dyson, the wolf shifter fae in ScyFy Channel's Lost Girl, and he also played an Uber-Lycan in Underworld Awakening. Trust me if you haven't already seen KHR in one of these, he's definitely a MUST see; you'll fall head over heels shortly thereafter.

During my play with KHR I started thinking about my favorite paranormal romance series, "The Black Dagger Brotherhood" of course! My creative mind started turning.....Tohrment! Tohment's book is called Lover Reborn. So for you BDB Fans I throwing my nomination of Kris for the role of Tohment (Tor) should there be a Black Dagger Brotherhood movie! - If you love paranormal romance you should definitely check out this series. J.R. Ward in the BEST!

Question is, when you do fall and you will, where do you go to stay on top of all things KHR? Let me open my box and see what I can pull out.

Kris Holden-Ried, Lost Girl's Sexy Factor

For those of you that don't know me, I blog about people, places and things that I LOVE! Usually what happens is, I stumble over, into, onto, or through something and the next thing you know I'm scouring the internet searching for anything that I can find on the subject. The most recent object of my affections is a Canadian born hottie Kris Holden-Ried.

How did I stumble upon this one man swag machine, my kids of course! My kids are always telling me what's hot on Netflix. So one evening one of the kids says there's a show on Netflix called "Lost Girl" and that it would be right up my alley, being that I'm a huge paranormal romance lover. I figure what's the harm. Next thing I know it's one week later and I've watched all of the episodes that are available and I'm jonesing for a fix! All of this was due to Kris Holden-Ried, who stars in the show as a wolf-shifter fey by the name of Dyson.

You just may ask me what makes him different than the myriad of other guys who play some sort of shifter on television or in movies lately (Yes, there have been plenty of the last few years), In my opinion, it's his SEXY FACTOR! Yes, he's definitely got it going on! I also like the fact that he's a more mature man, not a dude that's barely out of diapers. Body like BOO YA! And if that doesn't snag you, just listen to his voice! It's like warm chocolate! (I'll make sure to include a video clip somewhere in this post).

Lost Girl follows supernatural seductress Bo, a Succubus who feeds on the sexual energy (sometimes called "chi") of humans. Growing up with human parents, Bo had no reason to believe she was anything other than the girl next door - until she drained her boyfriend to death in their first sexual encounter. After years of running, Bo discovered she was Fae, creatures of legend and folklore, who pass as humans while feeding off them secretly and in different ways, as they have for millennia. Yo pensaba que iba a saltar sobre la tendencia social media llamada #ThrowbackThursday, #Throwback, o simplemente #TBT. " ¿Qué tiene esto que ver con Chayanne " , puede pedir? Un montón ! . Estaba hojeando a través de Facebook como lo hago todos los días, cuando vi un post de otro ventilador , Gabriela Alejandra ( Te quiero niña !) . En la entrada se ha publicado una imagen que fue tomada como parte de una serie de fotos de la telenovela " Gabriel ", protagonizada por la superestrella latina Chayanne.Es muy raro que me encuentro con una imagen de Chayanne que no he visto, pero se pregunta nunca cesa . Esta foto en particular, por lo que recuerdo , fue en realidad sólo se ve durante unos segundos de tal vez una o dos escenas fuera de toda la carrera de la novela .

House of Versace movie is based on a popular book written by Deborah Ball, who is a Wall Street Journal reporter. The book is titled "House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival".

The movie is about the story of Donatella Versace, (played by Gina Gershon) the younger sister of Italian designer Gianni Versace (played by Enricko Colantoni). It shows the love/hate relationship between the two. Gianni was considered the genius designer, and Donatella would help with the look of the designs, based on how a woman would want to look, and feel in the fabrics. Some of the big named clients were: Princess Diana, Elton John, Madonna, Elizabeth Hurley, Courtney Love, Cher, and many of the top models.

The movie also shows how Donatella has to be thrown into the spotlight once her brother was murdered, despite all of the pain that she was in, and her difficulties trying to keep the designs the way he would want them. She was ridiculed in the beginning by the critics, and turned to drugs to try to help her cope with things, and which only made things worse.

With the help of a friend, singer Elton John, and her family, Donatella turns the Versace brand into her own vision, and builds one of the most powerful and influential fashion houses ever known.

In 2010, Niecy was a contestant on Dancing With the Stars.

From 2003-2010, she was the host of "Clean House".

In 2011, Niecy had her own short lived reality show "Leave It To Niecy" on TLC.

Niecy is the active spokesperson for M.A.V.I.S. (Mothers Against Violence In Schools). her mother founded the company in 1993, after Niecy's younger brother was shot and killed. Their mission is to inform the public of the violence children encounter on school campuses.

In 2012, Niecy landed the role as Loli Ballentine on the comedy series "The Soul Man" which currently airs on TV Land.

Niecy just received an award from the Texas Women's Empowerment Foundation.

Christina Pirello is an authority on natural and whole foods, an author, a professor, and a colomist.

At a very early age, Christina spent time with her mother learning how to cook in her Italian kitchen.

Robert Norman "Bob" Ross was an American painter, an art instructor, and a television host born on October 29, 1942 in Orlando Florida.

At the age of 17, Bob enlisted in the U.s Air Force. they Air Force transferred him to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. Alaska was where Bob first saw mountains, and snow, which were frequently used in his artwork. In order for Bob to sell his work during brief work breaks, he learned how to paint quickly. During his time in the military, Bob held positions that he would have to yell, and be tough, and vowed that if he were to ever move on from the military, that he would "never scream again"

Bob later studied with Bill Alexander, and discovered that he was able to earn more from his art work than from his military position.

In January 11,1983, Bob first aired on PBS in a series called "The Joy of painting". Bob was the creator of the show, as well as the host. Each episode was 30 minutes. Bob would instruct the viewers with oil paint, with a quick study technique. He broke down the process into simple steps. When Bob came up with the concept of this show, he went to the homes of the producers to demonstrate his quickness, and they were very impressed by it.

The company that produced the paints that were featured in "The Joy of Painting" kept selling out of the paints, and approached Bob to put out his own art supply line, and he did. He also put out how -to books, and offered instructional classes. The classes were taught by instructors that were trained in the "Bob Ross" method. This was very successful for him.

Bob estimated having painting between 25,000 - 30,000 paintings in his lifetime. He believed that everyone had artistic talent and could become an accomplished artist given time, practice, and encouragement, and was often fond of saying, "We don't make mistakes; we just have happy accidents."

Bob was a juge fan of country music, and was invited in 1987 to go onstage by Hank Snow at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. He received a huge ovation.

Bob and his business partner gave Hank a private painting lesson.

Bob appeared on the shopping channel, QVC to promote his products on the air. Afterwards, the producer handed Bob a telephone, and Marlon Brando was on the line. Bob was shocked, and excited by this.

Bob visited NYC to promote his hard cover book called "The Best of the Joy of Painting with Bob Ross" to a studio audience. In 1989, he was on "The Joan Rivers Show", and in 1992, he was on live with Regis, and Kathy Lee. In 1994, he wasw on the Phil Donahue Show. Phil loves his painting techniques, and watched his videos. Bob selected 5 audience members to come on stage to do a painting, and got Phil to do one as well.

One of Bob's sons made a few appearances on "The Joy of Painting".

Bob was diagnosed with Lymphoma, he continued to work on his series "The Joy of Painting".

the final airing of the series was on May 17, 1994.

Bob made an appearance in a pilot of "The Adventures of Elmer & Friends". His appearance was recorded from his home in Florida, because he was too weak to travel to Muncie, Indiana where the program was shot.

He also did a few "self paradpy MTV spots".

Bob passed away from Lymphoma on July 4, 1995 in his Florida home.

On October 29, 2012, Google celebrated Bob's 70th birthday with a Google Doodle. It was of bob painting a depiction of the letter "g" with a landscape in the background.

Gloria Jean Goff (Gloria Loring) was born on December 10, 1946 in NYC, and is a singer, and an actress.

Gloria began singing at the age of 14. She was in a folk group called "Those Four".

In 1968, she released her first album "Gloria Loring, Today".

Gloria performed on many television shows during the 1970's including the Carol Burnett show.

Between 1979-80, she, and her then husband actor Alan Thicke co-composed the themes songs to two popular shows, "Different Strokes", and "The Facts of Life". Gloria sang both versions of the theme song for "The Facts of Life" from seasons 2-9.

In 1980, she landed the role as Liz Chandler on the ABC soap "Days of our Lives". Out of all of the new characters that were added to the show, Gloria was the only one that had her contract renewed.

In 1986, Glroia relaeased a song called "Friends, and Lovers" with Carl Anderson, which was number 2 on the Pop chart, and #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The year before the song was released, she had performed it on "Days of our Lives". Her performance of the song generated the largest mail response of any song in NBC daytime history.

Also in 1986, Gloria left the soap opera, and made appearances in television, and she spent a lot of time ovr the years on her recording career, and in the theater.

In 2012, Gloria released a book called "Coincidence is God's Way of Remaining Anonymous". The book was a spiritual autobiography.

Gloria has received the Lifetime Commitment Award from JDRF, and received the Woman of Achievement Award from the Miss America Organization.

Natalia Lafourcade Silva was born on February 26, 1984, in Mexico City Mexico. She is a singer, and songwriter.

When she was only 3 years old, Natalia began singing.

As a young girl, Natalia went to Instituto Anglo Espanol, which was a middle school where she studied painting, flute, theater, music, acting, piano, guitar, saxophone, and singing.

At 10 years old, Natalia sang in a Mariachi group.

In 1998, she was part of a female trio called Twist. The group didn't have success, and they broke apart after a year.

At 17, Natalia prepared to be a solo artist, and Loris Ceroni gave her the opportunity to be in a pop/rock group under his guidance, but since she wasn't sure about it, he encouraged her to go solo. He produced her first album under the Sony Music label. The album was recorded in Italy, and was cowritten with Aureo Baqueiro. It was a mix of pop, rock, bossa-nova, and Latin rhythms. This album featured her biggest hit, "En El 2000", (In the 2000's).

In 2003, Natalia was nominatied for a Latin Grammy for Best New Artist category, but lost to singer David Bisbal.

Also in 2003, she collaborated on the soundtrack of the Mexican movie "Amar te Duele", and "Un Pato" for the movie "Temporada de Patos.

In 2005, Natalia with her band called Natalia y La Forquetinareleased "Casa", her second album, which was mainly produced by Cafe Tacuba's Emmanuel del Real. This album was a more mature Rock-oriented sound, while still retaining pop, and bossa-nova influences.

In 2006, after touring through Mexico, and parts of the U.S., Natalia left the band to go solo again. The album "Casa" won the Latin Grammy for Best Rock Album by a Duo, or Group with Vocal.

Natalia appeared was featured on songs with artists such as Kalimba, Liquits, Control Machete, and Reik.

In 2011, she made a very clever, and popular music video with Los Daniels, called "Wuisiera Saber".

Also in 2011, Natalia was nominated for and won Best New Producer of the Year award in the fourth edition of the Indie-O Music Awards for her work with Carla Morrison's "Mientras tu Dormias" album.

In 2012 she released a tribute album to Agustin Lara, called "Mujer Divina".

Brooke Elliott is an actress, and singer born in Fridley, Minnesota on November 16, 1974.

Brooke began singing when she was 3 years old, and began acting in school plays while in high school.

In 1998, she graduated Western Michigan University, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre Performance.

Brooke first worked as a temp, and as a waitress at a 50's- themed restaurant, where she danced on tables, every hour.

Sofia Villani Scicolone (Sophia Loren) was born on September 20, 1934, in Rome, Italy. She is an Italian actress, and singer.

In 1953, Sophia starred in her first role, "Aida".

She starred in many films in the 1950's. In 1954, Sophia's role in "The Gold of Naples" made her famous.

In 1957, Sophia did her first Hollywood film "Boy on a Dolphin". That same year, she also made movies which co-starred famous stars such as John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, and Cary Grant.

In 1958, she had an International contract with Paramount Pictures for 5 films. Sophia co-starred with Anthony Perkins, and with Cary Grant once again.

Her performance in the 1961 film, "Two Women", won many awards, such as Cannes Film Festival's best performance prize, and an Acadamy Award for Best Actress, which was the first for a non- English language- performance, and to an Italian actress. Sophia also won 22 international awards for that film, which was a huge commercial success.

In the 1960's, Sophia was one of the most popular actress in the world, and continued making films in the U.S., and in Europe.

In 1964, she was offered $1 million dollars to appear in the film "The Fall of the Roman Empire".

Sophia received a second Academy nomination in 1965, for her performance in "Marriage Italian -Style".

From 1964-1977, Sophia received 4 Golden Globe Awards as World Film Favorite- Female.

Once Sophia became a mother, she worked less. Her work continued to receive many awards, and she continued to work with the biggest names in Hollywood.

In 1981, she was the first female celebrity to launch her own fragrance, "Sophia". She then launched her own eyewear collection.

Also, in 1981, Sophia was offered the role of Alexis Carrington, for Aaron Spelling's Dynasty, but she turned it down. She was also set to appear in 13 episodes of Falcon Crest, but negotiations fell through, and at the last moment, the role went to actress Gina Lollobrigida. Sophia preferred devoting time to raising her sons.

In 1988, Sophia starred in the miniseries The Fortunate Pilgrim.

Sophia has recorded over 2 dozen songs during her career including Tu Vuò Fà L'Americano which she sang in the movie "It starred in Naples". The song has recently been remixed a few times with different musicians. She also had a best selling album of comedic songs.

In 1991, she received an Academy Honorary Award for her contributions to world cinema, and was declared "one of the world cinema's treasures".

In 1995, Sophia received the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMill Award.

Throughout the 2000's Sophia continued making movies, and receiving many awards.

In July, 2013, Sophia is starring in her latest role, which is being directed by her younger son Edoardo Ponti.

Shalim Gerado Ortiz Goyco was born on February 26, 1979 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is a singer/actor, and son of the famous Charytin Goyco, and Don Elin Ortiz.

At the age of 7, Shalim began acting. He starred in a children's comedy called Los Angelitos. (The Little Angels).

Shalim, and his family moved to Miami, and he tried modeling.

Eventually, famous music producer, Emilio Estefan signed Shalim. Shalim also contacted the William Morris Agency, and Sony Music. He released three albums.

Lynda (Linda) Jean Còrdova Carter is an actress, and singer born on July 24, 1951 in Phoenix, Arizona. She is of English, Italian, Danish, Mexican, Irish, and Polish decent.

When Lynda was 17 years old she was in a band with two of her cousins. They played at the Sahara Hotel, and Casino Lounge in Los Vegas for three months.

Lynda studied at Arizona State University, and after being voted most talented, she dropped out to pursue a career in music.

In 1970, she performed at a San Francisco hotel mostly for janitors, and hotel guests who parked in the underground garages.

In 1972, Lynda returned home, and entered a local beauty contest, and won.

Also un 1972, Lynda won Miss World USA, and gained national attention, she went on to Miss World, representing the U.S. and made it to the semi-finals.

Lynda took acting classes, in NYC, and began making appearances in television, and in film. She was on Starsky, and Hutch, Cos, and Nakia.

In 1975, Lynda was cast as the star of a television series called "The New Adventures of Wonder Woman", as both Diana Prince, and Wonder Woman. The series lasted until 1979, and 30 years later, people still identify Lynda with her character.

In 1978, Lynda was voted "The Most Beautiful Woman in the World" by the Academy of Beauty, and the British Press Organization.

In 1980, she performed as a singer on the Vegas Strip, and in Atlantic City.

In 1983, Lynda starred as Rita Hayworth in a movie called "Rita Hayworth, Love Goddess".

Throughout the years, she worked on many different television specials, and costarred with actress Loni Anderson.

In the mid 90's Lynda became a celebrity promotional model for Maybelline cosmetics. She also did commercials for Lens Express (1800 Contacts).

Lynda has her own production company called Potomac Productions.

Victor Webster is an actor, and martial arts instructor born in Calgary, Alberta Canada on February 7, 1973. He is of Italian, Spanish, German, English, and Scottish decent.

In 1986, he and his family moved to San Clemente, California, where he attended high school. Victor also attended Saddleback junior college, and began working as a stockbroker. He later owned and operated an import/export company, and then after moving to Los Angeles, he began acting.

Jensen Ross Ackles was born in Dallas Texas on March 1, 1978, and is an actor, and director.

Jensen occasionally modeled from the age of 4. He planned to study sports medicine at Texas Tech University, and become a physical therapist, but moved to Los Angeles, and began acting instead.

Jensen appeared on shows called Mr.Rhodes, Sweet Valley High, and Cybill. He then joined the soap opera, Days of our Lives in 1997, as Eric Brady. The following year, he won a Soap Opera's Digest Award as Best Male Newcomer, and received 3 nominations for the Daytime Emmy's from 1998-2000, for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series.

He then left Days of our Lives in 2000, and went on to appear in a miniseries called Blonde, about Marilyn Monroe's life.

In 2001, Jensen did a guest appearance on Dark Angel as a serial killer. Although the character died, he became a regular, the following season as the character's sane clone.

In 2003, he joined Dawson's Creek until the final episode.

Although Jensen had auditioned for, and lost the role of Smallville's Clark Kent, in 2004, he later joined the cast of Smallville, as a character that was an assistant football coach.

In 2005, he had the lead role in the Film Devour, where he worked with his father, Alan Ackles.

Also in 2005, Jensen joined the cast of Supernatural, a horror/drama series.

In 2007, he was in an independent comedy, Ten Inch Hero.

Eros Luciano Walter Ramazzotti was born on October 28,1963 in Cinacitta, in Rome Italy. He was named after Eros the Greek god of love.

Eros learned to play guitar at the age of 7, and began writing music when he was a teenager with the help of his father who loved to play the piano.

Eros wanted to attend a musical conservatory, but failed the admission examination, and studied bookkeeping.

Eros worked as an occasional extra in films, but wanted a career as a pop star.

In 1981, he participated in a music contest called Voci Nuove di Castrocaro (New Voices of Castrocaro) with a song he wrote called "Rock 80". Singer Zucchero (Sugar) won, but Eros reached the finals, and received votes from Roberto Galanti and Baron Lando Lanni, who represented the recently launched Italian Label DDD, who gave Eros his first contract. He then moved with his mother, and brother Marco to Milan in the same building as the record company.

In 1982, Eros released his first album, "Ad un amico" (To a Friend), which didn't do well. Eros then met Renato Brioschi, who mentored him, and helped him to achieve his first success at the Sanremo Festival in 1984. He won the Newcomers category with his song, "Terra promessa" (Promised Land), and his music was released throughout Europe.

Eros continued making successful albums, each selling in high volumes, and reaching the Gold, and Platinum status. He has also won awards for his work.

By April of 1990, record producer, Clive Davis advised Eros to do a concert at Radio City Music Hall. He was the 1st Italian artist to perform to a sold out audience.

Eros performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and on Good Morning America.

He has done duets with artists such as Tina Turner, Cher, Andrea Bocelli, Joe Cocker, Carlos Santana, Anastacia, Luciano Pavarotti, and Laura Pausini.

From the mid 90's on, Eros reached worldwide success, and has had very successful tours.

Eros has done some producing. He produced the album "Come fa Bene L'amore" (Feels Good To Love) for singer Italian singer Gianni Morandi, and produced his own album.

Eros co-wrote a song on his second album which he recorded and originally called "Un Nuovo Amore" ("A New Love"). In 1988 he then re-recorded it in Spanish for the Spanish version of his album Musica e' (Music Is), and changed the name to "Completamente Enamorados" (Completely in Love). Two years later, Latin Superstar, Chayanne recorded it, and released it as his first single on his Tiempo de Vals album which debuted at number 28 on the

Billboard Hot Latin Track, and then peaked at number 1 for 5 weeks.

Eros has sold over 55 million copies of his music, and on November 13, 2012, he released his latest album, called "Noi" (We). It contains 14 tracks with duets with Il Volo, Andy Garcia, Nicole Scherzinger, Club Dogo, and Hooverphonic.

Salvatore Ferragamo was an Italian shoe designer born in Bonito, near Avellino, Italy, in 1894. His most famous invention was the "Cage Heel".

Salvatore made his first pairs of shoes for his sisters to wear at their confirmation, and decided this was what he wanted to do.

Salvatore studied shoe making in Naples, Italy for one year, then opened a store from his patents home.

In 1914, Salvatore moved to Boston to work at one of his brothers boot factory.

Salvatore convinced his brothers to move to California. Salvatore found success in Hollywood, where he opened a shoe repair business, and also produced made to measure shoes. The shoes became prized items to celebrities, and then Salvatore designed shoes for the cinema for a long time.

Although his shoes were pleasing to the eye, they were painful to wear, so Salvatore decided to study anatomy at the University of Southern California.

In 1927, Salvatore moved to Florence Italy, and began making shoes for the wealthiest, and powerful women, such as Eva Peron, Marilyn Monroe, and Maharani of Cooch Behar.

In 1933, Salvatore filed for bankruptcy, and in 1950, he expanded his operation to around 700 expert artisans that produced 350 pairs of handmade shoes per day. Salvatore's designs were the main inspiration of many other shoe designers.

Salvatore passed away in 1960, at the age of 62. His wife, children, grandchildren, and other relatives currently own, and run his company which has expanded further. It is now an International company, and they also produce purses, eyewear, silk accessories, watches, perfume, and clothing.

Salvatore's eldest daughter, Fiamma inherited her father's talent, and in 1978, she invented the "Vara pumps". She passed away in 1998.

In 1995, a museum opened in Palazzo Spini Feroni dedicated to Salvatore's life, and work. The palazzo was purchased by Salvatore in the 1930's.

In Florance Italy, there is a foundation for young talents that offers a curriculum specifically developed based upon the values imparted by the Salvatore Ferragamo.

Soraya Raquel Limilla Cuevas was born in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, one year after her family moved from Colombia.

Soraya became interested in music when she was 5 years old, when she heard her uncle playing music. Her parents bought her a guitar, which she taught herself how to play. She also played classical violin, and did her first public performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City as a member of the NYC Youth Philharmonic. She was class valedictorian at Point Pleasant High School, and began writing her own music.

Soraya attended Rutgers University in New Jersey, where she studied English literature, French pholosophy, and women's studies. She was too shy to play for large crowds, but overcame her fear. She played for audiences at coffee houses, and rallies around the Rutgers campus. She then worked as a flight attendant.

In 1994, Soraya got a record contract with Polygram Records/Island Records, and released her first album in both English and Spanish called "On Nights Like This/En Esta Noche". Both albums did well, and she toured in the U.S., Latin America, and Europe. She was a guest performer for artists such as Natalie Merchant, Zucchero, Sting, Michael Bolton, and Alanis Morissette.

Sorayas songs were on the top of the charts in Latin America, Europe, and in the U.S. Hispanic markets. Her first single, "Suddenly/ De Repente" reach #1 in Billboard Latin Pop listings, with the English version on the Audlt Contemporary mainstream. Her second album, "Torre de Marfil/Wall of Smiles", titled from a song that was co-written by her idol Carole King was released in late 1997, and helped her to reach worldwide recognition.

In 1992, Soraya's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and when Soraya was 22, her mother passed away. Soraya would go with her mother to doctor's visits, and they both did research, and participated in the Race for the Cure, and in 2000, Soraya was also diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer, shortly after releasing her third album. She had to take time off from touring to fight the disease.

In 2003, Soraya was in remission, and feeling healthy. She returned to music, with the release of her fourth album, self titled "Soraya". The songs were about her struggles, beliefs, and love for life. She won a Latin Grammy for "Best Album by a Singer-Songwriter" for this album, and was back on top.

In 2006, she released her final album, "El Otro Lado de Mi", and then passed away at 37 years old. She had lost her mother, grandmother, and aunt to breast cancer, and was the first Latin spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. She toured America to raise awareness, and even wrote a song to encourage women like herself, called "No One Else'Por Ser Quien Soy."
