As a tropical holiday destination Malaysia is popular with arranging weddings. Yes, Pangkor see foreigners coming to get married. But even more interesting for foreigners is a cultural wedding in Malaysia. The cultural differences are clearly visible in the wedding ceremonies. Have a look:

Where to go for diving in Malaysia? What to expect? Malaysia has some of the world's best dive sites. The most popular are those on the Malaysia east coast and Sabah. But the west coast has good diving too. Here is an introduction into diving in Malaysia.

South west Penang is a relatively untouched spot in Penang. Now slowly some travelers start exploring this area. And it worth to do so. The Balik Pulau area is very different from the rest of (touristy) Penang. Here you can still smell the local Malaysian country life and find fruit farm, balachan "factories" and untouched beaches.

It's closed off because Teluk Rubiah is being "developed" into an iron ore. Really sad ....

As the Teluk Batik-Teluk Rubiah area now officially is off limits, I am looking for other areas to have a jungle walk. Years ago I walked up Ungku Busu Hill or locally called Bukit Ungku Busu.

Last Saturday it was a nice day and a good moment to do it again (I think after 6 or 7 YEARS!). Anyway, arriving at the top, I felt I should come back to sort out if there was a possibility to continue. That happened today... and here is the report:

It's quite unbelievable how much there is being build here in Sitiawan. Yesterday I went out to have a short bicycle ride and saw in some areas around houses "growing like weed". Whole former plantations are being changed into new housing areas, mostly with semi d and terrace houses:

It's understandable though not completely right, Lumut does have some things to offer, see my Lumut page but few realize there's some good places to stay here too. During my first visit to this part of Malaysia, I stayed 2 weeks in the Galaxy Inn, and not on Pangkor.

So, where can you stay... have a look...

Pangkor has a jungle with some hidden treasures, think about snakes, lizards and very recent I found trails of particular pheasants. However, Pangkor is mostly associated with the Lesser Hornbill, a beautiful bird every visitor at Pangkor ALWAYS will see...

The Butterfly Farm in Penang is located at the west side of the island at Teluk Bahang. In my opinion this is one of the must visit places in Penang because here you can see some rainforest animal life that is hard to find anywhere in Malaysia.

Pasir Salak is where modern Malaysia took shape. However, for such an important place in Malaysia's history it gets very little attention. And that is not right. The museum is very well designed and maintained and it IS an essential place to visit for understanding Malaysia's past, present and yes, even it's future.

Kristina from www.higherlevelbusiness.com asked me for an interview. As she is living in the USA and I am in Malaysia it was a little searching for the right moment but we found a Sunday morning (for me and Saturday night for her) to have a great talk about websites, webbusiness and how everyone can do what I do.
You need a whole day, no discussion here. Canoeing around Pangkor means starting at about 7AM and finish around 5PM. It's good fun, but you need to bring water and food. It's therefore not recommended to do this without proper backup of a motorboat. But hey, you'll be on the water and have a lot of fun!

Taiping is a very nice little city in Perak. In my humble opinion, the city doesn't get the attention it deserves. Not only has Taiping quite an interesting history, still visible in the architecture but there's a lot more, think about the best zoo in Malaysia, Bukit Larut or the swamps of Matang, the bird sanctuary and more. No visitor in northern Perak should skip Taiping because he or she "has no time".

Over the years the Gurney Paragon has been finally completely finished. People now live in the 43 storey towers but ... there are still plenty of apartments for sale both seaviews and views land inwards. Have a look, it's a good place to live ...

Straits Quay in Penang is a man made island at Tanjung Tokong. The island is close to Gurney Drive and Tanjung Bungah. There is still much to be build, but little by little the Straits Quays become livelier.

Many foreigners and locals flock here to escape from the busy daily life at Penang. Many also choose to find a home here. And that is hardly surprising...
