It seems that maybe the way we feel about each other is a little off the beaten path! For example, it could be said that the Pagan Community is a lot more accepting of different sexual expression. With restrictions like that out of the way, we open the possibilities to almost anything one can imagine!

Which leads me to the dark, erotic world of BDSM. What does that have to do with Paganism? Well, according to Jennifer Hunter, there is a lot of cross-over between these two communities. Perhaps because Pagans are more free thinking and more inclined to erotic exploration. In an interview for her book, Phil Brucato says;

“Sex is an extreme sport, and an even more extreme form of worship. Safe Sex is an illusion. Sex isn’t supposed to be safe, by its very intimate nature, it cannot be safe. Passion seethes in our veins, occasionally grabbing us by the neck and fucking us till we scream. And we like it! We’re supposed to!…”

Here in Edmonton, we have very active Pagan and Leather communities. These two tribes intermingle at various events, like Lupercalia, a weekend long Leather event held during the Valentines day weekend. Now in its 11th year, “Luper” has been host to such talent as Dossie Easton, author of The Ethical Slut, The Topping Book, and The Bottoming Book. As well as Laura Antoniou, author of the popular Marketplace series.

I spoke with “Big Bad Jim”, an Edmonton Leatherman who chairs the event and who each year devotes countless hours to organize the workshops, secure the venue, and market, produce, and promote “Edmonton’s Premiere Leather Event”.
