Panther Ausf. A - Warlord Games - WGB-WM-136

2022-04-23T18:59:00.005+02:00

Hello everyone

It has been quite a while since I posted anything to this blog, but sadly I don't really paint a lot of historical miniatures at the moment. But recently I just wanted a nice and simple side project while working on something else, so I decided to paint this Panther that had been sitting on my shelf for years.

It's one of the old resin/metal kits from Warlord Games and it was just a joy to paint. I had a few years ago given most of my "historical tanks" paints away at my local club since I wasn't using them, so it was quite interesting having to mix everything to get something resembling the proper colours.

The camo pattern is done with freehand airbrushing, so overall this tank took no time to get done.

Anyway here are a few more pictures.

This project really made me want to play some more Bolt Action, so should probably get on that :-D

Until next time

Germany - Waffen SS - Bolt Action - Warlord Games

2018-05-05T01:48:00.002+02:00

Hello everyone!

A good friend of mine has been pestering me about painting the rest of my Bolt Action stuff for a very long time now, so I decided now was the time to paint the last 21 infantry models I had laying around and was planning to use in play.

The experience of batch painting 21 models which had to have Oakleaf and peadot camouflage on most of their uniforms was not a pleasant one, and more than once I was very close to losing my mind :-p

But now they are done! and I managed to take a few army shots.

Still have a Panther, a Hanomag halftrack to paint, but that will be for future projects.

Here are a few more pictures.

German E-100 Super Heavy Tank - Trumpeter - 00384

2018-01-14T19:42:00.000+01:00

Hello everyone!

Its been quite a while since I've posted anything on this blog...sorry!

But a few months ago I painted this E-100 from Trumpeter, because I try to do at least 1 "real" scale model kit a year. Had this on the shelf for some time, so I thought it fitting to paint it and it was a really fun kit to paint (Assembly wasn't too bad either, tracks were shit tho...)

Painted basically the same way as I painted all my Flames of War 1/100 stuff, so nothing fancy there.

Short post, but hope you enjoyed :) if you want to see what I'm currently working on I would suggest following me on Instagram @DornsArrow, I paint primarily 28mm stuff, but sometimes a do other things :-p

Until next time! (Hopefully it won't be another year ;) )

Leopard 2 - Company command - Team Yankee - Battlefront

2016-10-31T17:03:00.002+01:00

Hello everyone!

I recently tried my hand at painting a Leopard 2 from Battlefront, for their new game Team Yankee. When Team Yankee was released I was pretty stoked because I thought it would be cool to possible assemble a little Danish Force (If they ever decided to make it), but in the meantime a modern german tank force would suffice! :-D so I bought the German start set with 5 Leopards and 2 helicopters (The name escapes me).

I really love the design of the Leopard 2, it is with out a doubt my favorite modern main battle tank, and it was really cool to paint one. It's been a while since I painted a modern tank (and the last time I even painted it as a WW2 one... ).

Anyway enough talk, time for pictures! enjoy.

C&C is more than welcome, here, Instagram or Facebook :)

Until next time!
Chris

Elefant - Battlefront - GE132

2016-01-11T19:49:00.000+01:00

Hello everyone

It's been while since I updated this this blog and for that I'm sorry. Most of last year I spent painting stuff for my friends and other favors but after having finished those projects, I thought it was time I finished these two Elefants from Battlefront. I actually started painting these at the same time I did my Otto Carius Jagdtiger, but then something got in the way, and they got shelved until now.

I did however kinda rush them finished, but even though I think they turned out fairly decent :)

Not much else to add, so have some more pictures!

That's it for now.

It might be a while before I update here again, but if you want to check up on my work go to my other blog Dorn's Arrow. My next project for this blog will probably be an E-100 in 1/35 scale.

Until then

Chris

Tiger I - Warlord Games - WGB-WM-123

2015-08-10T19:41:00.000+02:00

Hello everyone!

It's been a while since I posted an update on this blog, so I thought I'd better take some pictures of my Bolt Action Tiger I from Warlord Games which I finished a few months ago (Just never got around to taking pictures before now...).

It was very fun to paint a larger tank for a change, and 1/56 is actually a quite nice scale to work with. The model was pretty great and fit together nicely even though it mainly consists of 4 large pieces of resin and the detail is superb. Coming from having primarily painting 1/100 scale tanks it was also a little challenging, but the overall techniques are exactly the same as when I paint the smaller vehicles.

Sadly I had to rush it to completion, so there wasn't time for pigments and stuff like that, I just had to many other projects that needed my attention. Still turned out nice though :-p

Painting mainly with Ammo of Mig acrylics and washes.

That's it for now, hope you like it :)

Otto Carius - Jagdtiger - Battlefront - GBX80

2015-03-17T17:52:00.002+01:00

Hello everyone

I just wanted to show you guys the result of my Otto Carius Jagdtiger project :) This tank needed to be finished because I need it for a tournament soon, so the Elefants will be completed a little later (but hopefully soon ).

Not much else to say really, enjoy the pictures :)

Bolt Action - Test Figures - Update

2015-03-05T17:24:00.002+01:00

Hello everyone

Just a quick update on my Bolt Action test project. Not much to say other than these figures was very enjoyable to paint, so much detail in this scale.

Anyway here's a few more pictures.

Test Figures for German Bolt Action Army

2015-03-01T20:17:00.002+01:00

Hello everyone

As yet another side project I decided to start painting a few figures for my own Bolt Action Army (German of course), just to get a feel for the figure size and colors I'm going to use.

So far I've finished a single Waffen-SS Grenadier armed with a STG44 and my commander figure is also slowly getting there :)

Here's a few more shots, I'm sorry about the quality but it is a lot harder to take pictures of infantry than big tanks :-D

Also since it has been a while since I've posted pictures of my Bolt Action Tiger...

It's pretty much ready for some weathering and I'm quite pleased with how it looks so far !

That's it for now, hopefully more updates soon (or Check out the facebook pages for more WIP pictures)

Small US Army - Bolt Action - Warlord Games - D-Day Firefight & Armored Fury

2015-02-21T00:42:00.002+01:00

Greetings everyone!

So a friend of mine bought some Bolt Action (D-Day Firefight and Armored Fury), and he needed someone to play with so I decided to try it out, German army naturally :-p

For starters we decided to paint up the US forces so we could use them for training and learning the game. Nothing special, just a nice tabletop standard.

We painted the infantry in a day (Still need to assemble a few more though) and I Volunteered to take the Shermans home and spice them up a bit, again nothing special, just good Tabletop standard.

I have a few Flames of War projects I need to finish and then I will probably start painting my Waffen-SS Bolt Action Army, at least some of it, still have a lot of FoW stuff that needs paint...

Anyway pictures, not the greatest, really difficult to take pictures of infantry...

Panther G, Early - Tamiya - 35170 - Finished

2015-02-05T18:54:00.001+01:00

Greetings everyone

My Panther Project is now finished, atleast I'm probably not going to add anything else to it or do more work on it, it has taken enough time as it is :-D

I think it turned out pretty well considering how few 1:35 scale vehicles I have painted for a long time now. The tank and figure is painted and weathered with a combination of Ammo, AK and Vallejo paints and products. The tank it self is build basically out of the box with few additions of after market stuff (The Barrel, Engine grills and Zimmerit). The only thing I can say about the kit is that Tamiya is such a joy to build, sure it might not be as detailed as the newer Dragon kits, but considering that this kit is more than 20 years old I still think it's quite nice, and most importantly it fits together so well and takes no time to build (Think I did it in a few hours, applying the zimmerit took longer than building the entire tank :-p).

Anyway not much else to say except for I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Also here's a few close ups of the commander before he was inserted into the turret. It's a SS Panzer Commander from Alpine Miniatures :)

Hope you liked it, I sure enjoyed building and painting it, even though it took a lot of time...

Until next time

Chris

Panther G, Early - Tamiya - 35170 - Small Update

2015-02-02T17:35:00.001+01:00

Hello everyone

Very short update today!

Some months back I posted about a Panther G in 1/35 scale I was building and just wanted to show what it currently look like :)

Painting the tools at the moment, afterwards I also need to paint the commander and varnish everything somehow without fucking up the pigments :-p

Beside this I'm also doing a Jagdtiger and 2 Elefants for Flames of War, and hopefully I can get a post up about them soon (Just really want to finish this Panther since it's starting in annoy me :-p)

That's it for now

Chris

Tiger I - Bolt Action - Warlord Games (WGB-WM-123)

2015-01-21T19:26:00.000+01:00

Greetings everyone

Recently my "local" hobby store had an Bolt Action sale with 50/70% discounts on everything in stock so I decided, that even though I don't play the game or collect any of the figures for the game or in that scale (1/56), I had to get something.....damn you discounts!

Most had already been sold but this single Tiger was still in stock so I thought I'd just get that. I have no previous experience with the quality of Warlord Games miniatures (I have seen pictures though) but I must say, after having opened this kit and assembled it, that the quality is superb! So many crisp details everywhere and very few mold lines etc. that had to be cleaned.

This tank is basically just 4 large pieces of resin with white metal details (Mg, hatches, barrel and the 2 commander figures), and everything just looks fantastic.

Overall huge thumbs up to Warlord Games from me, and I might just after having tried this collect a little Bolt Action army at some point (When I've reduced my stack of FoW things).

Anyway, I have never painted a vehicle in this size before and I'm quite looking forward to it actually. Its naturally quite a lot bigger than the 15mm tanks I'm used too, but still not as big and ungainly as a 1/35 scale tanks.

Even though the plan was to continue with my 1/35 Panther I had to throw some paint on this quick :-p

Here's a couple of pictures of the assembled tank and after I primed it gray. I did actually try to do some preshading with gray as the base color, black for shadow and white for highlights, but they kinda got lost a bit after the dunkelgelb got on there :-p so Just did some quick highlights.

And here's after a few different shades of dunkelgelb. I think I'll do some soft edge green and brown camo during my next painting session :)

That's it for now, I'll try to keep you updated on the progress :) either here or on FB

E-100 & E-75 - Heer46 - Finished

2015-01-20T21:55:00.001+01:00

'Allo 'Allo everyone

So I'm ready to call this project finished!

Still not happy with the E-100, getting another at some point. The E-75's though I'm quite satisfied with, as usual some things could have been done better, but overall I'm happy :-D

These were another great build of Heer46 tanks and I can only recommend people to try some of Denis Schuhmacher creations! Big thumbs up from me yet again!

Picture time!

E-100 - 1

E-75 - 121

E-75 - 122

Well that's it, hope you like them. As usual comments, suggestions and questions are more than welcome either below or on my facebook site :-)

Next project might be my 1/35 panther I'm doing for a campaign on the Armorama forums and perhaps some german 15mm infantry on the side ;)

Until next time

E-100 & E-75 - Heer46 - Almost done

2015-01-17T20:47:00.001+01:00

Hello everyone

Just wanted to post pictures of the current state of things. The tanks are almost finished now, still working on a few small things and hopefully I will have those finished tomorrow :)

Fairly happy with the result, The E-100 really doesn't look a good as I hoped, but it really did loose a lot of detail during the paint removal process after the initial failed paintjob :/ will definitely buy another soon, cause that tanks is just to cool :-p

Hopefully I will have more for you all tomorrow!

E-100 & E-75 - Heer46 - Update

2015-01-04T16:53:00.001+01:00

Hello everyone

Just a picture update today.

Mostly done with weathering, still got some things to do and then I also really need to see if something can be done to some of the "chipped" areas, the lighter color is just to light, but sadly it isn't something you can just redo :-p

E-100 & E-75 - Heer46

2014-12-14T17:25:00.000+01:00

Hello everyone

As regular readers (if I actually have such) might have noticed its been a while since my latest update, the reasons of this is primarily that I'm currently posting most of my Work in Progress stuff on my Facebook page (Just a lot easier :) ) and the second reason is that I just haven't had much time for painting (Damn you World of Warcraft expansion!, well and Work).

But of course that doesn't mean that I haven't been painting at all! Lately I've been building and painting these 3 tanks from Heer46 and as usual they are awesome. One of the E-75 has some ridges left on the turret from the printer (I guess they are 3D printed? I have no idea actually) otherwise the casting of the turret could have been better but nothing major. The only really negative thing I got to say about the E-75's is that the commander hatch can't be opened, it's a little thing but could have been cool. The E-100 is looking a lot more worn than I would have liked and some details were lost, this was caused by the paint stripping I did on it after the initial paintjob which I didn't like. I guess that plastic/resin is a bit softer than I'm used too from BF miniatures or PSC plastics.

Nevertheless the camo and decals are done and they have gotten some satin varnish, so the weathering process is about to start! at this rate I guess I will have these kitties done early 2016 :-p Nah well the christmas holiday is coming soon so hopefully I can get them finished during it.

The camouflage patterns are not really based of anything, I just wanted to try something new. The E-100 camo was done with small masking tape strips and the E-75 with Blu-Tac.

SdKfz 7/1 (Quad 2cm) - Battlefront - GE168 - Gunshields on!

2014-10-20T19:48:00.001+02:00

Evening everyone!

So I managed to find the gunshield so I kinda had to paint them :-p I did a bit of green camo, it's not very clear in the pictures but when you have them in your hand it's quite visible :-p anyway short post mostly just pictures. Enjoy.

SdKfz 7/1 (Quad 2cm) - Battlefront - GE168

2014-10-19T12:08:00.001+02:00

Hello everyone

Today I finally managed to get my AA Trucks for my FoW army :-) I've been working on these for a while now (together with a couple of Pak40) and after having spent last night and a bit of this morning finishing the crew, I will now call them finished.

I just noticed after having looked up the product code for these, that the guns should actually have a gunshield, I don't remember having seen those in the blisterpack they came in, but granted that was quite some time ago so I might just have misplaced them anyway nothing to do about that now :/

The reason for there being no camo on these, is that I just really wanted to paint and weather a pure dunkelgelb vehicle :) been doing a lot of camo lately and will again soon when I start painting my 1/35 Panther and a little FoW sideproject.

If you would like to see a bit more pictures feel free to visit the FB page, I've been throwing up some wip shots now and then, easier than writing a new blog post everytime I paint a few colors :-p

Anyway! hope you like them, suggestions and comments are as usual more than welcome !

Panther G, Early - Tamiya - 35170 - Assembly

2014-10-15T00:29:00.003+02:00

Hello everyone!

Last friday the Panther Campaign over at Armorama began and I've had this old Tamiya kit laying around for quite a while now, so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to make it.

I did however decide to spice it up with a few aftermarket parts, I have previously build the Panther G late also from Tamiya, so I had a some idea for easy improvements.

I wanted to do a zimmerit coating, get a better barrel and some exhaust wents, and I ended up with the following parts.

Zimmerit Coating Panther Ausf G 1/35 - Tamiya - B00A46BGGM
7.5cm KwK 42 L/70 PzKpfw V - Panther - RBmodels - 35B06
1/35 Early Panther G Grills Detailing Parts - Airwaves - 35048

I could probably have done the zimmerit by hand, but I saw that Tamiya had actually made a kit for it, so I decided to try it out and to be honest it looks quite good. There is a few rough edges here and there, but I think with a decent paintjob you really won't notice :)

Assembly

Since this is a Tamiya kit it only took a few hours to assemble and I honestly have no problem with some lack of details compared to Dragon kits, when it fits together this nicely and still looks good :-p

I haven't glued on the tools, hatches or wheels because I want to be able to paint them separately. I'm still looking for a camouflage pattern to give it and any ideas or suggestions are more than welcome, I really love the look of replacement parts in Red primer or just Dunkelgelb so I might do a bit of that. I'm not going to authenticity just something that will be fun to paint.

Anyways let's have some pictures

I'm still waiting for my Exhaust went in the mail, but that is fine since I need to finish a couple of small FoW builds before I'll begin painting this kitty.

That's for now, stay tuned :-)

Deathstroke - Knight Models - K35BAO006 - Finished

2014-10-02T17:54:00.000+02:00

Hello everyone

Not a FoW related update today, sadly, but I can say that I have started painting my AA trucks that I showed in an earlier post :)

I basically finished my Deathstroke figure from Knights Models, only missing some varnish (Will probably take some better pictures when he's totally finished). I still felt like showing him to the blog now, because I think it did turn out pretty good :) I really noticed it had been quite some time since I last painted a figure larger than 15mm, so it was a fun project and an awesome model! probably not the last time I buy something from Knight Models that's for sure.

Anyway here's a few more pictures :)

Until next time

Chris

Pictures taken with my phone, so not the best quality, even though it isn't that bad.

Allied Open Fire Army - Finished

2014-09-29T17:15:00.001+02:00

As promised yesterday here's some shots of my completed (finally) allied Open Fire army. The pictures aren't that good, it's really hard getting good pictures of infantry in this scale :-p

But anyway hope you enjoy, and hopefully I will have the german side finished Soon('ish)!

Chris

Sherman Platoon (2) - Battlefront - Open Fire - Finished

2014-09-28T21:02:00.001+02:00

Evening everyone!

I managed to get the last of my Open Fire Shermans finished today even though I had a serious hangover....

Quite glad with the result I managed to get with these, a lot better than the first 3 shermans I painted for this army that's for sure :)

This also means that my allied Open Fire army is now finished and I will probably make a post displaying that tomorrow at some point.

Next project will probably be to finish my Deathstroke figure and then I will continue work on my AA trucks. At some point in October the Panther Campaign on Armorama will start and I will be doing a 1/35 Tamiya Panther G, early for this. So expect to see something about that build soon'ish.

Anyway here's some more pictures, hope you like them. As usual comments, suggestions etc. are more than welcome :)

60.000+ Visits! and little update :-D

2014-09-28T11:58:00.001+02:00

Hello everyone!

I'm almost finished with the last of my Shermans, just need to paint a few things with my airbrush and then some varnish. But since I fairly hungover right now, it will have to wait until later today :-p

But here's a little "teaser" picture of how they are looking right now. And before everyone begins to comment of the beret color I just wanted to say it's on purpose that they are red! It adds a bit of color to the tanks and it looks better and more interesting in this scale in my opinion :-p

Also over 60k pageviews on the blog ! Really appreciate everyone who comes here either to read what I have to say or just look at pictures, I also appreciate the feedback and comments people leave for my work :-)
It wouldn't be the same without you!

As mentioned above I hope to finish these today and hopefully have a proper update at some point tonight :)

Chris

Sherman Platoon (2) - Battlefront - Open Fire

2014-09-22T17:26:00.001+02:00

Hello everyone!

As I might have mentioned it other posts, I'm still working on the last of my Open Fire Shermans, and I finally got the time to actually get a bit of work done on them, mind you there's still quite a lot of work left, but I'm getting there.

They might have gotten a bit to worn, but on the other hand they are Shermans so they will probably be destroyed quite a lot in FoW games, so I guess it's sorta fitting :-p

They have been painted basically the same way as the rest of my allied Open Fire tanks so not much to report about that.

As you can see the overall weathering is pretty much done, I doubt I will do much more anyway.

This past weekend I also managed to get started on another little project for my actually FoW army, so here's a little teaser :)

Work on these will begin when the Shermans are done and I probably should also get my Deathstroke figure finished before these.

Anyways, until next time

Chris
