Paoli Business & Professional Association is thrilled to announce it raised over $20,000 for the Front Porch Trust Scholarship Fund, the Paoli Fire Company, and the PBPA at their first annual Charity Golf Outing, held at Waynesborough Country Club July 12, 2022.

Ten foursomes teed off at the shotgun start following a buffet lunch in the Clubhouse. The day was capped off with 19th Hole drinks and dinner.

I’ve been to my fair share of golf outings and this was one of my favorites. The course was beautiful and everyone involved helped make the day run so smoothly. Golf fees were well worth it, especially knowing that this helped the Paoli Fire Company and Front Porch Trust Scholarship Fund.

Everyone who was involved in the PBPA Charity Golf Outing did a fantastic job! It was by far the best golf outing that I have ever played. The course was beautiful. The food and drinks were great. And it helped a great cause! It was overall just a great day! I will 100% be coming back next year and would highly recommend it to others!

The total cash purse for the day was over $2000, with contests including Hole-in-One, Closest-to-the-Pin, and placing First, Second or Third. While nobody won the free car, provided by Matthews Ford of Paoli, in the hole-in-one contest, there were several other winners that day. In addition to cash prizes, there were more great raffle items and a 50/50 drawing. Congratulations to all of our winners!

I would personally like to thank our sponsors, golfers and volunteers who helped the PBPA with our first annual Charity Golf Outing. I also want to thank Waynesborough Country Club and its staff, especially Helen, who provided excellent service and hospitality. The PBPA looks forward to continuing this tradition for years to come!

Early in this crisis, the PBPA recognized the potential dangers and cancelled the beloved Easter Bunny visiting the Paoli Toy & Hardware Center on a Paoli Fire Company truck as well as the “Lunch with our Legislators” annual meet-and-greet with local elected officials.

Further Coronavirus crisis changes have included transitioning the popular “Lunch & Learn with SCORE” to virtual Lunch & Learn webinars – complete with a discount to Primo Hoagies for attendees to have their lunch while attending. The PBPA supports and promotes the following initiatives, among others:

• Local Food Banks & Pantries – The PBPA donated $1000 to the Chester County Food Bank. Other local foodbanks can be found on www.paolibusiness.com.
• Paoli Fire Company COVID-19 19-Day Donation Challenge – With Fyzical Paoli & Primo Hoagies of Paoli, the PBPA has asked the community to donate gloves, masks and non-perishable food to the First Responders. Primo Hoagies has provided weekly lunch trays to the Company.
• Friends of Corsica – PBPA continues to support Corsica, with whom Paoli has a long history, by creating and donating to “Friends of Corsica,” care of Malvern Bank, 34 East Lancaster Avenue, Paoli, PA.
• Food! Glorious food! Initiative – PBPA has listed all Paoli restaurants open during the crisis and asks the community to enjoy an “out-to-dinner IN” night weekly to support Paoli’s local foodworkers.

The mission of PBPA is to bring value to Paoli businesses and to promote the safety and beautification of the Paoli community. The PBPA membership serves a diverse audience of citizens, including community leaders, entrepreneurs, business executives, employees and educators. The PBPA teams up with similar organizations on the Main Line in a networking alliance. What exactly is 5G? From Wikipedia: “5G is the fifth generation wireless technology for digital cellular networks that began wide deployment in 2019.”

The world’s connectivity needs are changing. Global mobile data traffic is expected to multiply by 5 before the end of 2024. Particularly in dense urban areas, the current 4G networks simply won’t be able to keep up.

That’s where a new G comes into play. With 5G commercial networks being switched on, the first use cases are enhanced mobile broadband, which will bring better experiences for smartphone users, and fixed wireless access, providing fiber speeds without fiber to homes. 5G smartphones will be available in beginning of 2019.

Being able to download a full-length HD movie in seconds and share your wow-moments with friends – that’s just the beginning. The true value of 5G is the opportunity it presents for people, business and the world at large: industries, regions, towns and cities that are more connected, smarter and more sustainable.

It’s allowing industries to reinvent themselves. It affects you. And it’s starting now.

Mr. Auble reported that 5G will be instituted within the next 2 years in our area. East Whiteland has already started to install towers. Towers will be 10 to 14 ft high with transmitters . They will have to be erected in the communities with no obstructions, 800 to 1000 feet apart. ATT, Verizon, T Mobile and Sprint are all trying to obtain the contract.

Andrea Testa, Chief, Paoli Fire Company

Andrea Testa is the first female Fire Chief elected in the history of Chester County. In addition to her 25-plus years as a First Responder, Chief Testa is also certified as a Building and Fire Inspector. Her formal education is in Emergency Services and Building Construction. Paoli Fire Company’s 35 volunteer firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and fire police are your neighbors. They donate their time and hearts to train, fight fires, respond to accidents and other emergencies, and provide emergency medical care and transport.

Lifetime Achievement Award
Steve Alleva, Alleva Funeral Home, Inc.

Alleva Funeral Home, Inc has been providing funeral services for our community since 1953. A 2nd generation business, it has been led by many of the Alleva family. Today Steve Alleva is the director of the family business. He shared that “it has truly been a family business with his father, mother, uncle and brother being very hands-on over the years”. They have been longtime members of the Paoli Business Association, Lions Club and Main Line Chamber.

To commemorate this, the Paoli Business & Professional Association has placed a marker on the original site, adjacent to the Paoli Plaza at the Paoli Village Shoppes and the Paoli Train Bridge.

The ceremony, held on Thursday, May 16, included a Parade of Colors by Revolutionary Reenactors, an Invocation by Paoli Hospital Chaplain Reverend Barbara Emery, and Historic Reflections on Tredyffrin Township by Supervisor Murph Wysocki and PA State Senator Andy Dinniman.

The celebration culminated in the Historical Marker Unveiling and Dedication. Afterward, light refreshments were served.

Over the years, the “Y” has offered the facility for the annual breakfast; WSFS continues as the main sponsor of the event. Other contributors include PBPA, Paoli Village Shoppes and Matthews Paoli Ford

The breakfast was established by the Front Porch Trust (FPT) in 2006 to recognize student volunteerism. In turn, the FPT was established by PBPA as an ongoing contribution of the Paoli 250th anniversary celebration.

Congratulations to this year’s scholarship winners! From Conestoga High School, they are Rohit Bommisetti, Ian Charles and Chase Dautrich. Great Valley winners include Evan Chang, Alyssa Maldonado and Kimberly Yang.
