Today is the 28th Annual Cedarburg Strawberry Festival 2013! This is one of my favorite festivals to attend each year in the summer. Yesterday marked the first day of summer. I have been busy since the beginning of this year and have not been very frequent in updating my blog. I plan to get back into the swing of things as summer wraps up and blog about new jewelry trends for 2013-14. So stay tuned.

5 Jewelry Trends for Spring 2012

The beginning of the year is a perfect time to evaluate your jewelry wardrobe and decide that stays and what goes. I tend to do this in January or sometimes even as late as March just in time for Spring! It's not without doubt true that most women love their jewelry. But as fashion and style evolve each year, trends are created and followed accordingly. It is a consumer-centric world right now, that is driven by people's unique choices. Jewelry continues to be the most important accessory for women, and here are 5 Jewelry Trends for Spring 2012!

1) Handmade Organic Jewelry: Once again handmade jewelry is going to be huge this year. Most of my readers know that the largest source for unique handmade jewelry is Etsy! There are other online sources and several local artists that you can find near where you live. Anything with metal is going to be in vogue. Especially the custom stamped metal clay type jewelry. I saw several shops carrying a flavor of this theme even last year on Etsy.com

2) Classic Antique and Romantic Jewelry: These are pieces inspired by the Victorian era, it could be recycled from old pieces, or made to look old. Pale white pearls, antiqued brass, copper & silver, red, blue and green beads, vintage reproductions pieces etc. You can find some of these in estate sales, online on eBay, or sometimes even on Etsy.I love finding treasures in antique shops. 3)Floral Woodland Nature Jewelry: This style has been around for a while, but it is making a big comeback this year. Anything related to flowers, nature, woodland, forests, etc is going to be very much in trend. Think about how you can combine your existing pieces to bring together a one of a kind cohesive style for you! 4)Lustrous Primary Colored Jewelry: Earrings in bright red, necklaces in primary blue, green, orange and yellow are all in high fashion this season! If you look at some of the fashion magazines or runway fashion shows it is very evident that bright primary colors are making a huge comeback this year. Pantone recently released its Pantone color of the year for 2012, and yes, you guessed it right, it is aptly called "Tangerine Tango"! Helpful Tip: First choose your bright bold earrings, then accessorize your outfit around them. This will make it a lot simpler when working with bright colors.

5)Pearls and Beaded Jewelry: Pearl jewelry is timeless, elegant and classic! A pair of simple pearl earrings can give your outfit a quick lift of elegance and sophistication with very less effort. Personally, I love pearls. Same can be said about beads. Both beads and pearls come in a variety of different colors, shapes and sizes. You can do a Google Search to see the huge collection of sites from which you can find your perfect pearl jewelry piece. Helpful Tip: Create your own unique style by mixing and matching pearls with some vintage beads you might find in an antique shop.

I must say it was a break well deserved! I got to spend time with my family and also catch up on organizing my jewelry studio. Time sure does fly by quickly during the summer. Wishing all my Canadian readers a Happy Canada Day!
I would like to introduce our newest website the Earring Tree @ Papaver Jewelry Creations. This website is hosted by us and I am trying to slowly move my entire Etsy shop here down the road. Other updates, I am also excited about my upcoming weekend getaway to Galena, IL tomorrow!! For those of you that do not know, Galena is home to my most favorite jewelry supply shop, VINTAJ. I plan on spending the afternoon there. We will be staying at the romantic Irish Cottage Boutique Hotel. It is a very deamy, romantic and lovely town similar to Cedarburg, Wisconsin. I shall try and post an update or two while I am down there.

Day at the beach collecting rocks

What a special day it was today I got to spend the afternoon at the beach on Lake Michigan with my son collecting rocks! We found some really interesting Lake Michigan rock specimens. The weather was lovely, the water quality was good, there was a lot of lakeweed and dead fish that had been washed ashore. Aside from that, we had a good time together. To reach the beach we had a small hike down a lovely wooded path that was very nice. We also found a small creek and a secret overgrown path of stairs that is no longer in use. You can enjoy the photos from our trip below. More photos of the rocks we ended up collecting, I will be posting as soon as I have them cleaned up.

Strawberry Festival Updates: A Photo Collage

Strawberry Festival this year was not as busy as last year, but it could be also that I went a bit later in the day that I normally would. The weather was nice and it did not rain both the days so I was happy about that. There were a few new jewelry vendors this year. I happened to even get some photos of a out of town wholesale beads vendor. The colors at his shop were very vibrant and cheerful. The strawberries looked wonderful, the shortcake was yummy and overall it was a fun filled weekend. I am sharing some photos below from the festival. Cedarburg Strawberry Festival 2011

It's that time of the year again, Cedarburg Strawberry Festival starting today June 25 and tomorrow Sunday June 26th !! It is one of my favorite summer festivals to attend in my town. I am super excited to take a lazy stroll through the grounds today to taste some yummy strawberry treats, shop local vendors, and perhaps discover something special to bring back home to my jewelry studio. There is fun activities for the kids, a pancake breakfast on sunday, and artwork from local artists for sale!
This year the organizers of the festival have created a video about the event. I have included it in this post below for those of my readers that are local in Wisconsin. Be sure to tune in later in the day today and Sunday to read about my experiences this year.

April Showers bring May Flowers!

Ah spring... as you might already know by now, it is my most favorite time of the year! Today we reached almost 83 degrees Farenheit in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. I managed to get out there today to get some photos of my lovely Crocus flowers once again this year. I was also joined by Tony, the Papaver dog. This year spring flowers are bit late in blooming. I received Creative Crochet Jewelry by Esther Zadock yesterday as a gift from my parents. This book is lovely and has a lot of beginner to advanced level projects. I made a pair of earrings, that I actually modified the design as I went along. It turned out very well. Today I plan on completing the other pair and will post photos of the completed pair. I am also doing some spring cleaning in my jewelry studio to get ready for the summer season. I plan to also add some new listings to my Etsy shop soon, so please stay tuned.

If you were wondering what I blogged about last April, you can read about it here. My spring getaway to Door County was beautiful. I was not able to get to any of the lighthouses however. The weather was very cooperative the three days I was there with my family. The condo where we were staying overlooked the bay and was completely frozen! I did manage to get to one of the bead shops, but unfortunately it was closed for the season. I am looking forward to planning another trip when the lighthouse festival begins in June.
