Martelinho de São João 2017 - Concurso

É já a 6ª edição do Concurso Martelinhos de S. João. O desafio é redesenhar o martelo de São João e torná-lo o mais original possível.

A proposta que apresentei – Martelinha – obteve o 1º lugar na categoria Objecto. O Martelo de São João anda há muitos anos sózinho pela noite mais longa do ano. Daí uma companheira com cabelos de manjerico, vestido de vela de Rabelo debruado a rio Douro e um colar de sardinhas prateadas. A Martelinha descansa da folia da noite de São João na sua caixa de cartão e até parece que está à janela de um edifício do Porto com a fachada coberta de azulejos típicos e placa toponímica.

Visitem o Palácio das Artes para ficarem a conhecer as outras propostas vencedoras – ilustrações, vídeos e mais objectos - e ainda duas ilustrações minhas. O vosso apoio é importante para todos os participantes! É para nós um prémio saber que o nosso trabalho vai ser visto pelo público no belo edifício do Palácio. Aconselho a que vão ver e que escolham o vosso favorito que bem pode não coincidir com a escolha do juri!

Todas as propostas apresentadas às categorias 2D, Objecto e Vídeo estão em exposição no Palácio das Artes, no Largo de S. Domingos, no Porto até 28 de junho. A exposição pode ser visitada até 28 de junho, de 2ª a 6ª, das 10h00 às 18h00; sábados e domingos, das 14h30 às 18h30. A exposição Martelinhos de S. João´17 é organizada pela Fundação da Juventude com o apoio da Fundação Millennium bcp.

Primeiro lugar, Categoria 3D, na 3ª edição do Concurso da Fundação da Juventude, Porto. Trabalho realizado em quilling (filigrana de papel). Na sua construção foram cortadas, enroladas e coladas cerca de 650 fitas de papel. O martelo incorpora os símbolos do São João - manjericos, um fogareiro com sardinhas a assar, o alho porro, um pequeno martelo e um balão, além do santo popular. As cores dominantes são verde-manjerico e azul-douro por razões óbvias! Escolhi esta técnica porque queria obter um produto final popular. O martelo remete claramente para as decorações sanjoaninas, muitas delas feitas em papel, e ainda para o floreado do ferro que adorna tantas varandas e portas da cidade do Porto, sem esquecer, também que a filigrana (mas em metais nobres) é uma arte tradicional no norte do país. Uma semana de trabalho, que incluiu aprendizagem, desenho e finalização, com algum stress pelo meio! Inspirado pela minha paixão pela cidade do Porto, dedico a quem sabe do que falo!

Apareçam na Exposição para ver todas as 139 propostas concorrentes. Além dos projectos 3D há projectos em 2D e video. A Exposição encontra-se no Palácio das Artes – Fábrica de Talentos, Rua das Flores, no Porto, e estará parente até ao dia 3 de julho.

Olá a todos! Não tenho tido tempo para actualizar este blogue mas quero agradecer a todos os que votaram no meu Martelinho de S. João. As minhas três participações não conseguiram ser premiadas na 1ª fase do concurso, passaram à 2ª fase, sendo votadas no Facebook, onde também havia um prémio em jogo, e estão expostas na Fábrica de Talentos, Porto, até ao fim de Julho. Obrigada a quem votou nos meus Martelinhos!

Hello everyone! I did not have any time to update this blog lately but I want to thank everyone who voted in my Martelinho S. João. My three proposals were not awarded at the 1st stage of the competition, went to the 2nd phase, were then voted on Facebook, where there was also a prize at stake, and were only selected to the exibition at Fábrica de Talentos, Oporto, by the end of July. Thanks to those who voted in my Martelinho designs!

S. João no Porto - A noite mais longa do ano - Ficou em 7º lugar na votação no Facebook. Pevides e tremoços para aguentar a noite mais longa do ano! Feito com embalagens de sumos, tampas de garrafa e outros desperdícios. Ilustração vectorial na base.

Cabeça de manjerico - foi a minha 2ª proposta mais votada. É um martelo verde, inteiramente reciclável depois da festa acabar! Feito em cartão.

O meu 1ª S.João - Martelinho para os bebés pois é que pequenino que se começa a brincar ao S.João! Feito com esponja de várias cores, devidamente cortada para o efeito. Ilustração vectorial na base.

A lesão medular é uma das principais causas de paralisia na clínica para cães. Esta perturbação dá origem a lesões que conduzem à destruição progressiva dos tecidos neurológicos. As consequências são desastrosas. O animal perde todas as funções motoras e a capacidade de percepção sensorial.Para corrigir a lesão o Davis tem de ser submetido a uma laminectomia dorsal realizada por um neurocirurgião. Neste momento ele coxeia, perdeu força e sensibilidade nas patas traseiras, faz muito esforço para se levantar e por vezes recusa-se a fazê-lo, de manhã, sobretudo, e mesmo para ir comer.Tem dores e toma diariamente comprimidos para o seu controlo. Sem a operação ele acabará por deixar de andar e por fim, quando já não for possível controlar a dor, não restará outra hipótese senão adormecê-lo. É isto que queremos evitar a todo o custo.

Como foi o evento de celebração africana em Carrickfergus?

Há uns meses atrás promovi activamente um evento de temática africana no meu blogue e redes por entender que mercê da ligação de Portugal com o continente africano - e não apenas com os PALOP'S - haveria quem quisesse ajudar a Rosetta no seu esforço de angariar dinheiro para instituições africanas que combatem o abuso sexual infantil, um problema que ali assume proporções gravíssimas. Não tive grande sucesso, digo-o sem reservas. Houve algumas promessas mas não se concretizaram. Ainda assim a Paula Pereira viu o meu repto e não só enviou trabalhos como até foi à Irelanda, e ajudou no evento, como júri. Isso foi excelente. Eu consegui vender as colagens e o dinheiro vai para África. Eu nunca poderia doar esse montante, se quisesse doar dinheiro, teria de ser um valor inferior. E fiquei duplamente contente quando soube que as colagens tinham sido compradas pela mesma pessoa.

2011 Ano Internacional da Celebração dos Povos de Descendência Africana
- "CARRICKFERGUS COMEMORA ÁFRICA" em Carrickfergus, Irlanda do Norte.
As Nações Unidas declararam 2011 Ano Internacional da Celebração dos Povos de Descendência Africana. A artista de Carrickfergus, Rosetta Jallow, organizou um evento para celebrar isso, para mostrar algum talento local Africano e para arrecadar fundos para instituições de caridade africanas. O evento aconteceu no Shopping do Centro Cívico e Galeria em Antrim Street, Carrickfergus entre 12 de novembro e até 19 de novembro.

Foi uma festa com temática Africana, com a participação tanto da comunidade Africana na Irlanda do Norte.Houve uma exposição de arte para a caridade, que é uma expansão do que a Rosetta já fazia, o Faces of Africa, iniciada em Manchester em 2004. Stephen Jamison de Newtownabbey exibiu com ela algumas vezes nos últimos anos. Este ano, muitos de seus amigos artistas locais e internacionais apoiaram os seus esforços de caridade e ela está grata pela sua generosidade.
Arte doada por esses talentosos artistas foi exposta e vendida para ajudar Operação Bobbi Bear (África do Sul - que trabalha com crianças abusadas sexualmente); ABAANA (Bangor, constrói escolas no Uganda) e Igreja da Academia de Cristo (escola na Gâmbia).
Artistas que doaram são da Irlanda do Norte, Inglaterra, França, Portugal, EUA, Austrália e Ilhas do Pacífico dos Bougainvile no Solomon Islands Norte. Uma das doações foi criada no Japão pela Charleen Morris, que vive habitualmente na Gold Coast, ou seja, a exposição é verdadeiramente internacional.
Artistas participantes são: Rosetta Jallow (Greenisland), Stephen Jamison (Newtownabbey), Freda Kemp (Larne), Natalie McCoy (Belfast), Lorraine Pollock (Belfast), Susie Hawkins (Bristol), Dawn Jones (Wolverhampton), Charleen Morris (Australia ), Alan Lewis (França), Loretta Lytle (EUA), Isaura Xavier Decampos (Portugal), Belinha Fernandes (Portugal), e Paula Pereira (Portugal).
Paula Pereira esteve presente no evento. Paula doou duas obras de arte bonita, uma das quais foi usada por Planex Gana em seu site como parte de um anúncio sobre o evento. Representantes da Planex Gana voaram para Carrickfergus para se reunir com Johnson Rosetta Jallow e Ezequiel, o fundador da Associação Gana Irlanda do Norte. Paula Pereira juntou-se a Ezequiel Johnson e Sebastian Adegboyega Aluko-James para formar o júri do concurso de arte infantil.
Rosetta também está grata à artista Isaura Xavier de Campos, que vive em Ermesinde, por doar o seu trabalho para as exposições de arte, em novembro de 2010 e 2011, e Belinha Fernandes, que vive na Figueira da Foz, que doou duas belas colagens sobre tela, este ano.
Entertainers africanos apresentaram-se no evento em ambos os sábados, houve oficinas de arte infantil africana, pintura facial e outros entretenimentos. A cidade de Carrickfergus passou duas semanas animadas!

How it was at Carrickfergus African theme celebration

Some months ago I used this blog to promote a charity event that would take place at Carrickfergus, northern Ireland. I helped Rosetta translating information to Portuguese language as I thought Portuguese would like to particiapte as we have a past in what african land concerns and not just the actual PALOP's - Portuguese Language Expression Countries. Money raised was to be sent to African institutions that fight african children sexual abuse. The reception wasn't what I expected but at least one Portuguese artist took interested in it. (Rosetta's Portuguese friend Isaura was already participating.) Paula Pereira participated at the charity event and even attended it. Here are some photos of the event and a text summarizing what happened. My two collages were sold at the charity exhibition!I am so pleased!

"The United Nations declared 2011 year International Year for Peoples of African descent so disabled Carrickfergus artist Rosetta Jallow has organised an event to celebrate this, to showcase some local African talent and to raise funds for African Charities. This was just held at the Civic Centre Mall and Gallery in Antrim Street, Carrickfergus. It run from 12th November until 19th November.

Rosetta, whose paintings have been exhibited in countries as far flung as Australia, Italy and USA, is grateful to Carrickfergus Council for facilitating her event. This was an African themed celebration with as much involvement from the African community in Northern Ireland as possible. A charity art exhibition which is an expansion on Rosetta’s Faces of Africa portraits exhibitions which have been long-running since she started them in Manchester in 2004 has took place. Stephen Jamison from Newtownabbey has exhibited with her a few times in recent years. This year many of her local and international artist friends have supported her in her charitable efforts and she is overwhelmed by their generosity.
Art donated by these talented artists will be exhibited and sold to aid Operation Bobbi Bear (South Africa – working with sexually abused and raped children); ABAANA (Bangor based charity building a school in Uganda) and Church of Christ’s Academy (school in Gambia) and other African causes.

Donating artists are from Northern Ireland, England, France, Portugal, USA, Australia and the Pacific Island of Bougainvile in the North Solomon Islands. One of the donations was created in Japan by Charleen Morris, who usually lives in the Gold Coast, so the exhibition is truly international.

Whilst the majority of the artworks are African themed, there are also landscapes, framed sketches, a wall hanging, a framed handmade ceramic, laminated digital art, encaustic wax paintings and cards, and wildlife paintings, so the theme of the exhibition is diversity in the full sense of the word. Most of the artists have also kindly reduced their prices due to it being a charity venture, so people can pick up a bargain.

Participating artists include: Rosetta Jallow (Greenisland), Stephen Jamison (Newtownabbey), Freda Kemp (Larne), Natalie McCoy (Belfast), Lorraine Pollock (Belfast), Susie Hawkins (Bristol), Dawn Jones (Wolverhampton), Charleen Morris (Australia), Alan Lewis (France), Loretta Lytle (USA), Isaura Xavier Decampos (Portugal), Belinha Fernandes (Portugal), and Paula Pereira (Portugal).

Children’s African themed Art Workshops on both Saturdays, ran by artists including Rosetta and June McKenzie also from Carrickfergus, were a hit. Face painters and balloon modellers Lou Lou and Pom Pom, have been booked to be there on 12th and 19th November.

The exhibits in the gallery will included African Embroidery by leprosy sufferers from Korah, Ethiopia, and African inspired pottery by talented Belfast pottery teacher, Lorraine Pollock.
Representatives of Planex Ghana attended the event. One of the Portuguese artists, Paula Pereira, attended the Opening and VIP Reception. Paula judged a Children’s Art Competition assisted by Sebastian Adegboyega Aluko-James the founder of the Nigerian Association Northern Ireland.
There were African entertainers on both Saturdays. On Saturday 12th the entertainment was provided by Artfrique Music and Dance. Cuthbert Arutura of Artfrique came from Marondera, in Zimbabwe originally and he starred as the African Prince in an episode of the TV programme, Just For Laughs, which was on BBC1. Mr Arutura is a highly talented actor, musician and dancer and some will know him from his appearances at Belfast Zoo’s African Culture Day. His exciting performance starts at 1pm in the Civic Centre Mall on 12th November.
VIP Reception was By Invitation Only, and DJ Krest, a talented Belfast DJ originally from Nigeria played some Nigerian music also Dance and R&B to entertain the VIP guests.
On Saturday 19th November from 11am-1pm, MAGWERE, a fantastic band headed by Wilson Magwere (Zimbabwe) and including Thomas Annang (Ghana) entertained at the Civic Centre. Magwere play at Belfast Mela yearly and the band are well known at many Belfast venues including The Ivy Bar. Thomas Annang runs the ACROWA African Drum Course and touring Band."

Call for donations!
Are you a artist or a crafter? Do you have sympathy for African causes and would you like to help? Would you like to be part of a craft and art internacional exhibition to take place in Ireland, Carrickfergus?

Deadline to donate art and craft work: Please make donations before September to get all photographed and catalogues printed. Press releases are out on 2nd September. You cans till send works till the end of the month of September. African themes or other are welcome.

Irish artist Rosetta Jallow is organizing this exhibition to raise money to support African causes:

- Operation Bobbi Bear, based in South Africa, who rescue children from rape and sexual abuse. They provide a place of safety for the children and educate that child rape does not cure AIDS

-Maybe others

Art and craft exhibition will be just one of the actions to take place at Carrickfergus. African Art workshops will be held too, African drummers, storytellers, music, a football tournament to raise money to provide kits for African youths who want to form teams, free tasters of African food and lots more.

Here’s an opportunity to enter an international event and doing something for charity at same time. This will make you feel good with yourself and also be a great topic on your art and craft resume.

Please notice that sending art or craft work expenses are on you and that Rosetta Jallow cannot be responsible if your work gets lost on the way. So, ensure the best possible way to send your work to Ireland.

Convite à doação de trabalhos de artistas e artesãos de língua portuguesa - ainda pode participar!

A artista irlandesa Rosetta Jallow é a organizadora deste evento que se destina a angariar dinheiro para apoiar causas Africanas:

- Operação Bobbi Bear, com base na África do Sul, que salva as crianças vítimas de violação e abuso sexual. Eles oferecem um lugar seguro para as crianças e educam a população (Pensem que existe a crença de que a violação de crianças cura a SIDA);

A exposição de arte e artesanato será apenas uma das acções a realizar em Carrickfergus. 10 de Dezembro de 2010 - As Nações Unidas preparam-se para celebrar 2011 como o Ano Internacional das Pessoas de Ascendência Africana. O Secretário-Geral Ban Ki-moon, fez um apelo emocionado à comunidade internacional para erradicar o racismo, uma vez por todas.

"A comunidade internacional não pode aceitar que comunidades inteiras sejam marginalizadas por causa da cor de sua pele", disse num evento na sede da ONU em Nova York para o lançamento do evento. “As pessoas de ascendência Africana estão entre os mais afectados pelo racismo. Muito frequentemente elas enfrentam a negação de direitos básicos como o acesso a serviços de saúde e educação. Tais erros fundamentais têm uma história longa e terrível.

"A comunidade internacional tem afirmado que o comércio transatlântico de escravos foi uma tragédia terrível, não só devido à sua barbárie, mas também devido à sua magnitude, natureza organizada e negação da humanidade essencial das vítimas.

"Mesmo hoje, os africanos e pessoas de ascendência Africana continuam a sofrer as consequências desses actos", acrescentou, apelando para a sua plena integração na vida social, económica e política e em todos os níveis de tomada de decisão.

A Assembleia Geral proclamou em Dezembro de 2009 este ano de 2011 como o ANO INTERNACIONAL DAS PESSOAS COM DESCENDÊNCIA AFRICANA, uma resolução que visa a necessidade de reforçar as ações nacionais e a cooperação regional e internacional para assegurar que as pessoas de ascendência Africana possam desfrutar plenamente de direitos económicos, sociais, culturais, civis e políticos. Também para promover a sua integração em todos os aspectos políticos, econômicos, sociais e culturais da sociedade, e um maior conhecimento e respeito pela sua herança e cultura diversas.

All earnings from this Ross Heywood's Zazzle Store section will be donated to the Earthquake Relief Fund in New Zealand.

New Zealand suffered one of its worst natural disasters when a 6.3 magnitude earthquake strucked second-biggest city called Christchurch on 22th February. A 7.1 magnitude shake also struck Christchurch September 4, 2010, causing damage but were no deaths. This time the shallow quake, just two miles below the surface, caused several office blocks to collapse as well as destroying a 110-year-old Anglican cathedral.

I know little about New Zealand. I saw An angel at my table, The Piano and Whale Rider. So, that is my New Zealand. I know the islands were once a Britain colony. I know about indigenous Maori population and the traditional crafts of carving and weaving. And I also know that James Cook was one of the first Europeans to set foot on the islands. And that's it! I imagine huge mountains and tall trees and the winds blowing from the sea and I seem to forget about its populated cities until one it's on the news for the worst reason.

A few weeks ago I found Ross’s store. He gave shelter to a couple of hedgehogs and displayed their photo on some Zazzle products. It caught my attention. I adore those cute animals! He lives in New Zealand. He started the fund raise for Christchurch and I decided to help. I feel deeply sorry for all who have to go through this kind of tragedy. I experienced only very small earth shakes but I get really scared when it happens. Last time was 2009. To watch earthquakes devastation images – Japan, Turkey, Italy, Haiti- is almost as bad as watching war devastation images. Earthquakes comes without warning, we still can’t predict it. We’re powerless to defend ourselves. I gave Ross a hand. Now, it's your turn to give Christchurch a hand too.

My other blog, A Portuguese Love, is among the blogs with 20 or less followers on Facebook NetworkedBlogs. It's a bore because I am not recognized as its author. Confirmation is pending for months already! It only takes 6 confirmations for that to happen! I just have one! A Portuguese Love blogue has been abandoned for several months. I did not care for it much. So no one really cares much for it either. Anyway I promise myself that I will update it more often in the next months. News on new products, reviews on favourite Zazzle stores. Notes on Portuguese culture, food, music. Maybe some freebies! But if you are in NewtworkedBlogs can I ask that you confirm me as an author? I do not know why but A portuguese Love widget isn't working for that purpose. Maybe something I did wrong, I do not know. Many thanks! No collages today!

Convite à doação de trabalhos de artistas e artesãos portugueses

É um artista ou artesão? Tem simpatia pelas causas Africanas e gostaria de ajudar com a sua arte? Gostaria de fazer parte de uma exposição internacional de arte e artesanato que terá lugar na Irlanda, em Carrickfergus?

Prazo para doar arte e artesanato: Mostra inicial em Outubro pelo que as doações devem ser feitas até Setembro para se fazer catálogo.

A artista irlandesa Rosetta Jallow está planear um evento para angariar dinheiro para apoiar causas Africanas:

- Operação Bobbi Bear, com base na África do Sul, que salva as crianças vítimas de violação e abuso sexual. Eles oferecem um lugar seguro para as crianças e educam a população (Pensem que existe a crença de que a violação de crianças cura a SIDA);
- ABAANA, uma instituição de caridade cristã da Irlanda do Norte criada em Bangor, em 1998, que angaria fundos para construir escolas, fornecer água potável, cuidados médicos, e trabalhar com crianças de rua do Uganda;
-a Igreja de Cristo, no Gâmbia, que trabalha com os pobres e necessitados, providenciando escolaridade;
- E talvez outras.

A exposição de arte e artesanato será apenas uma das acções a realizar no próximo Verão em Carrickfergus. Bandeiras de todos os países identificarão obras e proveniência dos artistas na exposição para criar uma rica atmosfera internacional.

Artistas e artesãos obterão feedback completo da exposição. Eles receberão uma cópia dos comunicados de imprensa enviados e email confirmando a doação. Esta informação pode ser usada para publicitar a sua participação e obter o seu reconhecimento local.

Call for donations from Portuguese artists and crafters
Are you a artist or a crafter? Do you have sympathy for African causes and would you like to help? Would you like to be part of a craft and art internacional exhibition to take place in Ireland, Carrickfergus?

Deadline to donate art and craft work: Preview showing is in October, so would need donations before September to get all photographed and catalogues printed.

Irish artist Rosetta Jallow is planning an event to raise money to support African causes:

- Operation Bobbi Bear, based in South Africa, who rescue children from rape and sexual abuse. They provide a place of safety for the children and educate that child rape does not cure AIDS

- ABAANA, a Northern Irish Christian charity set up in Bangor in 1998, who raise funds to build schools, provide clean water, medical care, and work with street children in Uganda.

- Church of Christ, Gambia, who work with the poor and provide schooling for the needy.

- and maybe others.

Art and craft exhibition will be just one of the actions to take place next Summer at Carrickfergus. African Art workshops will be held too, African drummers, storytellers, music, a football tournament to raise money to provide kits for African youths who want to form teams, free tasters of African food and lots more.

TV and Radio are already spoken to cover the event. A PR expert is going to work to assist this event the best way possible and free of charge. Irish newspapers are expected to list all artists who donated arts and crafts and the countries of origin. Flags of all countries will be identifying works and artists’ provenience at the exhibition to create an international atmosphere.

Artists and crafters will get feedback from exhibition. They will get a copy of press release sent and covering email confirming the donation. This information can be used to publicit their participation and get local recognition.

Enclose an envelope with:
- Title of the work
- Name (or artistic name) you want to be used
- Nationality- email contact
- Minimum value your work should be post to sale

My nephew and my sister started this project for Christmas but somehow kids magazine instructions were not entirely correct. So they called for help. I ended up having a great time putting all things together. Then I tested it. It works!

O meu sobrinho e a minha irmã começaram este projecto nas férias do Natal. As instruções da revista de onde recortaram as figuras não eram muito completas e então passaram-me a pasta! Acabei por me divertir a recortar as figuras que faltavam e a montar tudo. As figuras vinham na revista, era preciso recortar e arranjar os arames de suporte. A caixa é uma caixa qualquer de formato A4 que a gente tenha em casa. Aqui estão as fotos do teste:funciona!
