On a personal level, you all know I have had a very complicated summer with the kids being sick. I am honestly drained. Yesterday my Etsy shop was down and still is. I am trying to get the issue resolved with Etsy . So until I do resolve the issue, shop business will be closed. It may be a forced , and needed, time off anyways. Time off to re-group, re-focus, re-charge.

I have been noticing all of this chalkboard art craze--check out this search result on Pinterest so you know what I am talking about----beautiful stuff! How cool would it be to make one of these! Think of it, these would be amazing for your parties, classroom , play rooms, bedrooms, a play kitchen. I mean really--the options are endless!!! The problem: Who the heck has really cute handwriting to make these ! I certainly don't----I know--shocker! But I actually handwrite pretty bad. So I said to myself "Dude! How about if we make one that has our Editable Text feature with cool fonts so anyone can type in whatever they want ?". So that is exactly what I did!

I made a whole bunch of these boards above! They are 18 x 24 but you can also use this same file and reduce to print on tabloid or letterhead sheets. You are probably asking "Dude! That's a lot of black ink--ain't it? " Why yes it is! And I have an answer for you! DON'T YOU DARE print this on your inkjet printer--save your ink! Instead--print them at your local Office Print shop (Staples, Kinko's etc.) Use their laser printers and voila! And check THIS out--if you print them BIG at 18 x 24 inches on their black and white "blue print" machine--it will cost between $2.50 - $6.00 depending on where you go (pssst! Staples is the cheapest one though). So there! But honestly you CAN print them on an inkjet--I did and they looked fab but it does eat a lot of ink so going to your print shop is highly recommended.

There's more! So you may be saying---"I want a little pop of color here and there like the real chalkboards on Pinterest". No problem! Grab yourself some REAL color chalk and add some accent colors here and there. I will post some photos of what that looks like too.

So what do you think? Another Paper Glitter Invention? Or did this one bite the dust? Thoughts , themes and ideas are welcomes--oh and YES…little itsy bitsy ones to make cute little mini chalkboards are coming too :)

So when will these be available? I have a little helper running around test printing these so after all the testing and photography is done they will be in the shop.

It's a circus around here--literally! Lots going on, personally and professionally. The above shows you some sneaks on the Paper Glitter plate. I was incredibly inspired by the movie Madagascar 3. It is all about the Circus and I have had this theme in mind for years to do and I finally got a spark about the vision for it after watching this movie. So I decided to age up the graphics a bit . I mixed a little kawaii + a little sophisticated line work and gestures + a little vintage. Can't wait to finish this set! I will disclose that I don't know when a full party kit will be finished as I am going to go into a bit of a hiatus soon--I will be putting circus money and a train up for sale very soon though. So here is part 2 of what this post is about…..

As you all know Paper Glitter is a little over 3 years. It has been an amazing journey but as you all know, I get overwhelmed. So many things to finish, so many party kits still waiting to get done, so many posts to do and so little time. I need a way to streamline these ideas, and products to be a better service to you. So I am ready to announce that I want to take Paper Glitter to the next level, and I have been coding this next step "Paper Glitter 2.0". I will be changing things quite a bit (and behind the scenes) for the next 4 weeks. I am going to be posting a lot less than usual as I finalize the details of this next phase of Paper Glitter. It's overwhelming and it will surely be amazing when it is all done. After this is complete, I will be looking for support--so I will be an official "collective", as Etsy likes to call it. I need to set in place a program where I can be helped a bit so I will be announcing "help wanted" messages in the future. This new help will be put in as a system where I can better serve you, present more ideas and products in a more efficient way and have more time for meaningful posts such as more tips and amazing tutorials.

I will start by letting you know that I am looking for Miami area art students who are interested in freelancing. Responsibilities will include; Making paper mock-ups of printables. I will mail the printed items with instructions and arrange pick up of assembled mockups. Person(s) interested should have good cutting, assembling skills of simple paper mockups like the ones on the Etsy shop. If interested, please send resume to paperglitter@gmail.com , subject header: Freelance in Miami.

Es un circo por aquí… literalmente! Están pasando muchas cosas personales y profesionales. Las imágenes que están viendo les dará una idea de lo que está pasando en Pager Glitter. La película ilustrada de Madagascar 3 me inspiró tremendamente. La caricatura se trata todo sobre el Circo y he tenido este tema en mente por muchos años y por fin me llegó la visión de cómo crearlo después de ver la película. Así que decidí crear las gráficas como si fueran antiguas. Mezclé el estilo Kawaii (curiosito Japonés) + expresiones y líneas sofisticadas + estilo antiguo. Estoy muy emocionada de terminar este grupo de ilustraciones! Como muchos de ustedes saben, Paper Glitter tiene un poco más de 3 años de estar abierto. Ha sido una experiencia increíble pero a veces me siento abrumada. Tengo tantas cosas por hacer, muchísimos kits por terminar, cosas que quiero poner en el blog y muy poco tiempo para hacerlo todo. Necesito una mejor manera de coordinar todas estas ideas y productos para que leas puedan servir mejor a ustedes. Estoy lista para anunciar que quiero llevar a Paper Glitter al siguiente nivel y le estoy llamando “Paper Glitter 2.0”. Cambiaré las cosas bastante (incluyendo detrás del escenario) por los próximas 4 semanas. Estaré escribiendo anuncios mucho menos seguido mientras que finalizo todos los detalles para la próxima fase de Paper Glitter. Es abrumador y de seguro será increíble cuando lo termine. Después de que esté todo completo contrataré ayuda – así seremos oficialmente un “colectivo” como lo llama Etsy. Necesito desarrollar un programa donde me puedan ayudar así que pronto anunciare “ Se solicita empleado(a)”. Studio Pic Friday is a bit different today (lots of catching up to do so I could not take an actual photo of the circus train). But here is a peek at the graphics. Kraft paper by Paper Glitter?

Special Announcement: You all know how I ADORE working and printing on Kraft paper but the ones available in stores can be a little dark and have that "hairy" texture. Well, in my endless research for a better paper, I finally found a manufacturer that sells awesome and SMOOTH as photo paper craft color paper! It even prints certain darker colors real well (see strawberry red prints here). You can even color beautifully on it. What do you use to cut paper?

Let's talk about cutting today! I have cut for years (due to my job/hobbies) so I am comfortable using just scissors. In fact, everything you see in my photos is cut with a great pair of $14 Fiskars scissors. NEVER go cheap on scissors--trust me--they make your cutting much easier.

What do you use to cut?

(1) Scissors
(2) Paper trimmers
(3) X-acto knife / cutting mat

I was completely smitten when Fara from Little Things Creations contacted me about an upcoming Watermelon party that she was planning. She mentioned that a good compliment to her party design would be paper watermelon slice ---well, great minds think alike, as they say because I was actually working on one just in time for summer and I sent them right over to her :)

She sent over adorable photos of her watermelon party and I was blown away at how beautiful it looked. It looked amazingly real and anyone can put something as beautiful as this with the help of Fara and her ideas.

My son's 1st birthday celebration

So I have a little story to tell you. As you may have noticed from the last blog post, due to my kids getting sick over and over again during the past few months, we decided not to do a "party" for my son's 1st birthday and we decided on cutting a cake for him when he felt better instead. It would have been for just us 4 and his grandparents. This past weekend my son was feeling much better so we figured this past Sunday would be a good day to finally cut him a cake (he had been officially one year for almost a month now)! On the night before, around 10 pm, I decided to print a cake topper for him….then I decided to print bunting ….then one thing led to another, I printed like 15 pages of the Printable Jungle Party Kit, yada yada yada, it was 5 am and I had a whole cute set up done!

I didn't have time for a "dessert table" as we have been all used to seeing and it shouldn't always be about making one. Don't get me wrong I LOVE me some cute dessert tables. But it can be very unrealistic to create one for every single get together you may have. I think it's nice to work with what you have, some times. So aside from the basic sweets I added items for my 2 kids, the silverware and some monkey plates :) I must say…since this was very last minute I could only work with what I already had around the house anyways and you know what???? I had very little stress since all the items of the table were already there for me--I had no choice but to use what I had. It was all about making a pretty table for my 2 kids who I ADORE.

So in keeping this post real, let's talk about what was on the table. I had the jungle coloring sheet backdrop printed weeks ago, as I test them before putting them on sale--so I was lucky to have it handy. My husband had bought a small ice ream cake from Coldstone the night before. And we also bought some cupcakes just because…..well…… cupcakes + ice cream = yum! The next day, we got 1.5 ounce hershey bars from Walgreens--one for each one of us. That orange package on the right were coloring books for my kids. And we had some animal crackers laying around so I filled only one of the train boxes with them. But I always line paper/ printed paper with wax paper, etc...for these train boxes I used coffee filters. My mom made the cute hats on that Sunday. Are they not the cutest! I told her I loved craft paper mixed with fiery colors like the yummy colors in the color spectrum between yellow and orange and she worked her magic. And let me just say that none of this could have been possible without printables !!! How awesome was it to decide last minute to need decorations for anything and be able to print and make them in the wee hours of the night!?

I hope you enjoy these photos of our humble get together. I really do hope they inspire you to always remember that you can create a pretty scenery for anything wether it is huge party or a small get together.

Oh but WAIT! There's more! I have a small surprise for you. It is kind of embarrassing as the quality is awful. To keep me motivated that Saturday night and since I was working so fast, I thought if I took photos of the progress I was making on the table it would end up being a neat piece as animated slides. OF COURSE it would have been nice if I had a working tripod at the time but I did not. And I am only showing it to you because it does tell a story. See it below.

If you want to recreate something similar to this, I have the printable jungle party kit in the shop and I will add the extra items that I made for this celebration into it in the coming days. Interesting fact--I put this party kit on sale right about the time I was having my contractions a year ago. I remember uploading the photos of the kit to the Etsy shop and I was "feeling funny". 9 hours later my son was born and he had a party kit already designed for his first birthday :)

What I did this past weekend.....

I had an interesting thing happened to me this past weekend. Due to both of my kids being sick so many times in recent months, we decided not to do a party this year for my son who was turning one. Instead, we decided on cutting a simple cake from Coldstone for him and asking his "abuelitos" (grandparents) to come over on Sunday. Simple enough. It was suppose to be JUST a cake. It really was. .

However…….

On saturday night around 10pm I decided to print a simple cake topper for the cake cutting on Sunday. I was suppose to stop there and go off to bed. But I could not help myself. Next thing I knew I printed out 15 sheets and used a bunch of things I had laying around from past photo shoots, including a jungle themed backdrop. I really should have stopped at just the cake but I really cant say no to a possible paper project. Do you blame me? I went to bed at 5 am on Sunday morning. I even got my mom involved in the fun and when she came over she made these hats for my 2 kids. Isn't she awesome?
That was my weekend. I took tons of pics, after all it was my baby's first birthday! So when I am done sifting through them I will post.

Real Party: Dorian's Monkey Birthday Party

Jennifer sent in photos of her son Dorian's birthday party. Jennifer is amazingly talented! I love how she created this adorable party without overdoing the details and making all of it seem very feasible to make---right? Love the rough look of the brown bags and the leafy accents.

Jennifer really did utilize the Monkey Party Kit from the shop real well, using even the cutout pages to make cute center pieces. Check out the editable text banner--really a very impactful focal point to the table.
