Abstract :

The Digital Object Identifier (DOI®) System is for identifying content objects in the digital environment. DOI® names are assigned to any entity for use on digital networks. They are used to provide current information, including where they (or information about them) can be found on the Internet. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) -- what it is, how it works and why its adoption could facilitate e-commerce and Digital Rights Management (DRM)
SAMPLE 1: A method and system for conserving battery strength of a mobile node, such as a laptop computer, on a wireless local area network (WLAN). The mobile node transmit symbols, which are units of data, during transmission cycles to maintain a connection with the WLAN. A battery charge level of the mobile node is measured. As the battery charge level drops below pre-defined levels, a frequency of symbol transmission for the mobile node is reduced. The reduction of the frequency of the symbol transmission results in lower power demands by a transmitter chipset of the mobile node. Thus, the mobile node is able to prolong the life of the battery of the mobile node.

SAMPLE 2: A method and apparatus are disclosed for improving the efficiency of operation of AC induction motors. The method and apparatus utilizes a microprocessor to tune a motor control system such that the time interval between the turn-on of a bi-directional switch and the time of sensing the resultant inrush current through the stator is maintained substantially constant as the load is varied.
The low noise amplifier module amplifies inbound RF signals. The blocking circuit, when enabled, substantially attenuates a blocking signal and passes, substantially unattenuated, desired receive RF signals of the inbound RF signals. The down-conversion module converts the amplified inbound RF signals or the desired receive RF signals into inbound baseband or low IF signals. The processing module converts the inbound baseband or low IF signals into inbound data, converts outbound data into outbound baseband or low IF signals
Now the passwords are based on the fact of Human memory. Generally simple passwords are set so as to quickly recall them. The human memory, in our scheme has to undergo the facts of Recognition, Recalling, Biometrics or Token based authentication. Once implemented and you log in to a secure site, the 3D password GUI opens up. This is an additional textual password which the user can simply put. Once he goes through the first authentication, a 3D virtual room will open on the screen. In our case, let’s say a virtual garage. Now in a day to day garage one will find all sorts of tools, equipments, etc.each of them having unique properties. The user will then interact with these properties accordingly. Each object in the 3D space, can be moved around in an (x,y,z) plane. That’s the moving attribute of each object. This property is common to all the objects in the space. Suppose a user logs in and enters the garage. He sees and picks a screw-driver (initial position in xyz coordinates (5, 5, 5)) and moves it 5 places to his right (in XY plane i.e. (10, 5, 5).That can be identified as an authentication. Only the true user understands and recognizes the object which he has to choose among many. This is the Recall and Recognition part of human memory coming into play. Interestingly, a password can be set as approaching a radio and setting its frequency to number only the user knows. Security can be enhanced by the fact of including Cards and Biometric scanner as input. There can be levels of authentication a user can undergo.
Water is heated, turns into steam and spins a steam turbine which drives an electrical generator. After it passes through the turbine, the steam is condensed in a condenser; this is known as a Rankine cycle. The greatest variation in the design of thermal power stations is due to the different fuel sources. Some prefer to use the term energy center because such facilities convert forms of heat energy into electrical energy.
Almost all coal, nuclear, geothermal, solar thermal electric, and waste incineration plants, as well as many natural gas power plants are thermal. Natural gas is frequently combusted in gas turbines as well as boilers. The waste heat from a gas turbine can be used to raise steam, in a combined cycle plant that improves overall efficiency. Such power stations are most usually constructed on a very large scale and designed for continuous operation.
It is then compressed inside large turbo pumps to about 100 atmospheres. Once the air has reached 100 atmospheres and has been cooled to room temperature it is allowed to expand rapidly through a nozzle into an insulted chamber. By running several cycles the temperate of the chamber reaches low enough temperatures the air entering it starts to liquefy. Liquid nitrogen is removed form the chamber by fractional distillation and is stored inside well-insulated Dewar flasks.

ABSTRACT
Every science involves skill, judgment, or "art" on the part of its practitioners and the science of Brain Fingerprinting testing is no exception. Every forensic science provides scientific data and scientific conclusions for the use of non-scientist judges and juries, who evaluate these on a common-sense and legal basis (i.e., a basis outside the realm of science) in reaching their conclusions regarding the facts and the law of the case.

Investigators' need for accurate, scientific means of linking perpetrators with crime scene evidence has inspired some scientists to ask, "What does the criminal always take with him from the crime scene that records his involvement in the crime?" The answer to this question, of course, is the Brain. The purpose of this document is to delineate the boundaries of the science of Brain Fingerprinting, and specify what falls inside and outside those boundaries.

ABSTRACT

Blindness is more feared by the public than any other ailment. Artificial vision for the blind was once the stuff of science fiction. But now, a limited form of artificial vision is a reality .Now we are at the beginning of the end of blindness with this type of technology. In an effort to illuminate the perpetually dark world of the blind, researchers are turning to technology. They are investigating several electronic-based strategies designed to bypass various defects or missing links along the brain's image processing pathway and provide some form of artificial sight.
This paper is about curing blindness. Linking electronics and biotechnology, the scientists has made the commitment to the development of technology that will provide or restore vision for the visually impaired around the world. This paper describes the development of artificial vision system, which cures blindness to some extent. This paper explains the process involved in it and explains the concepts of artificial silicon retina, cortical implants etc. The roadblocks that are created are also elucidated clearly. Finally the advancements made in this system and scope of this in the future is also presented clearly
CRITICAL ENDEAVOR IN CANCER

ABSTRACT

The advent of nanotechnology in cancer research couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. The vast knowledge of cancer genomics and proteomics emerging as a result of the Human Genome Project is providing critically important details of how cancer develops, which, in turn, creates new opportunities to attack the molecular underpinnings of cancer. However, scientists lack the technological innovations to turn promising molecular discoveries into benefits for cancer patients. It is here that nanotechnology can play a pivotal role, providing the technological power and tools that will enable those developing new diagnostics, therapeutics, and preventives to keep pace with today’s explosion in knowledge.

Nanotechnology provides the sized materials that can be synthesized and function in the same general size range and Biologic structures. Attempts are made to develop forms of anticancer therapeutics based on nanomaterials. Dendritic polymer nanodevices serves as a means for the detection of cancer cells, the identification of cancer signatures, and the targeted delivery of anti-cancer therapeutics (cis-platin, methotrexate, and taxol) and contrast agents to tumor cells. Initial studies documented the synthesis and function of a targeting module, several drug delivery components, and two imaging/contrast agents. Analytical techniques have been developed and used to confirm the structure of the device. Progress has been made on the specifically triggered release of the therapeutic agent within a tumor using high-energy lasers. The work to date has demonstrated the feasibility of the nano-device concept in actual cancer cells in vitro.

Abstract-

As modern encryption algorithms are broken, the world of information security looks in new directions to protect the data it transmits. The concept of using DNA computing in the fields of cryptography and steganography has been identified as a possible technology that may bring forward a new hope for unbreakable algorithms. Is the fledgling field of DNA computing the next cornerstone in the world of information security or is our time better spent following other paths for our data encryption algorithms of the future? This paper will outline some of the basics of DNA and DNA computing and its use in the areas of cryptography, steganography and authentication.

Research has been performed in both cryptographic and steganographic situations with respect to DNA computing. The constraints of its high tech lab requirements and computational limitations combined with the labour intensive extrapolation means, illustrate that the field of DNA computing is far from any kind of efficient use in today’s security world. DNA authentication on the other hand, has exhibited great promise with real world examples already surfacing on the marketplace today.

Abstract:

For every consumer and business that is on the Internet, viruses, worms and crackers are a few security threats. There are the obvious tools that aid information security professionals against these problems such as anti-virus software, firewalls and intrusion detection systems, but these systems can only react to or prevent attacks-they cannot give us information about the attacker, the tools used or even the methods employed. Given all of these security questions, honeypots are a novel approach to network security and security research alike.

A honeypot is used in the area of computer and Internet security. It is a resource, which is intended to be attacked and compromised to gain more information about the attacker and the used tools. It can also be deployed to attract and divert an attacker from their real targets. Compared to an intrusion detection system, honeypots have the big advantage that they do not generate false alerts as each observed traffic is suspicious, because no productive components are running on the system. This fact enables the system to log every byte that flows through the network to and from the honeypot, and to correlate this data with other sources to draw a picture of an attack and the attacker.

This paper will first give an introduction to honeypots-the types and uses. We will then look at the nuts and bolts of honeypots and how to put them together. Finally we shall conclude by looking at what the future holds for the honeypots and honey nets.

Myrinet, ANSI/VITA 26-1998, is a high-speed local area networking system designed by Myricom to be used as an inter connect between multiple machines to form computer clusters. Myrinet has much less protocol overhead than standards such as Ethernet, and therefore provides better throughput, less interference, and lower latency while using the host CPU. Although it can be used as a traditional networking system, Myrinet is often used directly by programs that "know" about it, thereby bypassing a call into the operating system.
Abstract:

Today technology plays a vital role in every aspect of life. Increasing standards in technology in many fields , has taken man today to high esteem. But the present available technologies are unable to interact with the atoms, such a minute particles. Hence Nanotechnology has been developing. Nanotechnology is nothing but a technology which uses atoms with a view to creating a desired product. It has wider applications in all the fields. The
important application is Cryonics.. Cryonics is nothing but an attempt of raising the dead - making them alive. First we preserve the body then by using molecular machines based nanotechnology we could revive the patients by repairing damaged cells.
In this technical paper we would like to discuss cryonics, how the process of cryonics goes on and why nanotechnology is being used and description of molecular machines which has the capability of repairing damaged cells. Therefore Cryonics is an area in which most of the work is to be done in future .

ABSRTACT

Mobile telephony allowed us to talk on the move. The Internet turned raw data into helpful services that people found easy to use. Now, these two technologies are converging to create third generation mobile services. In simple terms, third generation (3G) services combine high-speed mobile access with Internet Protocol (IP)-based services. But this doesn’t just mean fast mobile connection to the world wide web. Rather, it means whole new ways to communicate, access information, conduct business, learn, and be entertained -- liberated from slow, cumbersome equipment and immovable points of access. Mobile computing is being heralded as the new “killer app” for the Internet.
While 3G hasn’t arrived yet 2.5G is here! The technologies at the forefront of 2.5G push are GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution.), WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), and WAP (Wireless Application Protocol).

On the road to 3G, we shall have an insight into the blossoming of 3G from 2G, the technologies involved, & their areas of application.. GRPS and WAP are definite stepping-stones on 3G wireless networks. Separately their improvements are useful upgrades and together they are a significant departure from 2G systems. A gradual transition and user acceptance for 3G could be a reality.

Mobile computing is beginning to break the chains that tie us to our desks, but many of today's mobile devices can still be a bit awkward to carry around. In the next age of computing, there will be an explosion of computer parts across our bodies, rather than across our desktops. Basically, jewellery adorns the body, and has very little practical purpose. The combination of microcomputer devices and increasing computer power has allowed several companies to begin producing fashion jewellery with embedded intelligence i.e., Digital jewelry. Digital jewellery can best be defined as wireless, wearable computers that allow you to communicate by ways of e-mail, voicemail, and voice communication. This paper enlightens on how various computerized jewelry (like ear-rings, necklace, ring, bracelet, etc.,) will work with mobile embedded intelligence.

Even the devices we use are protected by passwords. It can be frustrating trying to keep with all of the passwords and keys needed to access any door or computer program. This paper discusses about a new Java-based, computerized ring that will automatically unlock doors and log on to computers.

ABSTRACT:-

The Internet has become an integral part of human society and business, and its full potential is as yet untapped. Internet related crimes are rapidly on the increase, with numerous cases of people illegally accessing private networks. The vulnerability of such networks was underlined when a group of hackers going by the name "Milworm" gained access to the B.A.R.C servers sometime ago. These threats pose an unprecedented challenge to lawmakers and enforcers. Likewise this throws open a new arena of challenge for Network engineers and designers. A sophisticated array of security measures is being used to keep the hackers at bay.
ABSTRACT

“HAPTICS”-- a technology that adds the sense of touch to virtual environment .Haptic interfaces allow the user to feel as well as to see virtual objects on a computer, and so we can give an illusion of touching surfaces, shaping virtual clay or moving objects around.
The sensation of touch is the brain’s most effective learning mechanism --more effective than seeing or hearing—which is why the new technology holds so much promise as a teaching tool.
Haptic technology is like exploring the virtual world with a stick. If you push the stick into a virtual balloon push back .The computer communicates sensations through a haptic interface –a stick, scalpel, racket or pen that is connected to a force-exerting motors.
With this technology we can now sit down at a computer terminal and touch objects that exist only in the "mind" of the computer.By using special input/output devices (joysticks, data gloves, or other devices), users can receive feedback from computer applications in the form of felt sensations in the hand or other parts of the body. In combination with a visual display, haptics technology can be used to train people for tasks requiring hand-eye coordination, such as surgery and space ship maneuvers.
In this paper we explicate how sensors and actuators are used for tracking the position and movement of the haptic device moved by the operator. We mention the different types of force rendering algorithms. Then, we move on to a few applications of Haptic Technology. Finally we conclude by mentioning a few future developments.

INTRODUCTION

With its omnipresent computer all connected via internet information age has lead an explosion of information available to users. With the decreasing cost of storing data and increasing storage capacity with a same small device foot print have been key enablers of this revolution. While the current storage need are being met the storage technologies must continue in order to keep pace with a rapidly increasing demand.

However both magnetic and conventional optical data storage technologies, where individual bits are stored as distinct magnetic or optical changes in the surface of recording medium, are approaching physical limits beyond which individual bits are too small or too difficult to store. Storing information through the volume of the medium not on its surface offers an intriguing high capacity alternative. Holographic data storage is a volumetric approach, which has made recent progress towards practicality with the appearance of lower cost enabling technologies.
Hence the holographic memory has become a great white whale of technology research.

ABSTRACT

Speech compression is the technology of converting human speech into an efficiently encoded representation that can later be decoded to produce a close approximation of the original signal. The wavelet transform of a signal decomposes the original signal into wavelets coefficients at different scales and positions. These coefficients represent the signal in the wavelet domain and all data operations can be performed using just the corresponding wavelet coefficients. The major issues concerning the design of this Wavelet based speech coder are choosing optimal wavelets for speech signals, decomposition level in the DWT, thresholding criteria for coefficient truncation and efficient encoding of truncated coefficients. The performance of the wavelet compression scheme on both male and female spoken sentences is compared. On a male spoken sentence the scheme reaches a signal-to-noise ratio of 17.45 db and a compression ratio of 3.88, using a level dependent thresholding approach.
ABSTRACT:

Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) is an increasingly worrying threat to availability of Internet resources.DDoS Attacks have recently emerged as one of the most newsworthy, if not the greatest weaknesses of the Internet. The variety and number of both attacks and defense approaches are overwhelming.

This paper attempts to explain how they work, why they are hard to combat today what will need to happen if they are to be broughtundercontrol..This paper introduces DDoS in the current scenario and often represents adetailed description of exactly how this attack works and why is it hard to cope with today. It discusses various defense principles and challenges encountered. In the later sections the modus operandi of the attacks and its classification is explained .Finally research issues in DDoS are highlighted and in the long term picture , an integrated approach to the DDoS problem is proposed that will bring this class old problem under control , if not eliminate it entirely.
Thus a better understanding of the problem, current solution space and future scope are provided.

Abstract

Silicon microprocessors have been the heart of computing world for more than forty years. Computer chip manufacturers are furiously racing to make the next microprocessor that will topple speed records and in the process are cramming more and more electronic devices onto the microprocessor. Sooner or later the physical speed and miniaturization limits of silicon microprocessors is bound to hit a wall.

Chipmakers need a new material to produce faster computing speed with fewer complexities. You won’t believe where scientists have found this new material. DNA, the material our genes are made of, is being used to build the next generation of microprocessors. Scientists are using this genetic material to create nano-computers that might take the place of silicon computers in the next decade.

A nascent technology that uses DNA molecules to build computers that are faster than the world’s most powerful human-built computers is called DNA computing. Molecular biologists are beginning to unravel the information processing tools such as enzymes, copying tools, proofreading mechanisms and so on, that evolution has spent millions of years refining. Now we are taking those tools in large numbers molecules and using them as biological computer processors.

DNA computing has a great deal of advantage over conventional silicon-based computing. DNA computers can store billions of times more data than your personal computer. DNA computers have the ability to work in a massively parallel fashion, performing many calculations simultaneously. DNA molecules that provide the input can also provide all the necessary operational energy.

DNA computing has made a remarkable progress in almost every field. It has found application in fields like biomedical, pharmaceutical, information security, cracking secret codes, etc.
Scientists and researchers believe that in the foreseeable future DNA computing could scale up to great heights!

ABSTRACT

This paper discusses about GPRS (general packet radio service) a relatively new technology that offers a packet based radio service with mobile networks which is based on GSMcircuit switching. The task in this paper proves the evolving of GPRS from GSM to fulfill the technologies evolution from voice to data. This also serves the needs of fast generation with high speed data access using mobile networks. The later stage of paper shows the special features of GPRS such as band width requirements with low cost. The approach of this paper proves the development of GPRS over the years towards the applications like audio, web browsing, internet email and moving images.

ABSTRACT

Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) adds images, text, audio clips and ultimately, video clips to SMS (Short Message Service / text messaging). Simon Buckingham, CEO of Mobile Streams believes that: 'The transition from Short Message Service (SMS) to Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is as important on mobile phones as the transition from DOS to Windows was for the PC. It represents a revolution.' Unlike other technologies like WAP, Bluetooth etc - MMS offers a complete development and billing environment along with a chance to create compelling applications. Thus, MMS provides an opportunity to foster an industry where all players in the value chain may get an opportunity to earn revenue.

Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is a messaging service for the mobile environment that has been standardised by the WAP forum and 3GPP. To the end user, MMS is very similar to the short message service: it provides automatic and immediate delivery of user-created content. The addressing used is the phone-number of the recipient and the bulk of the MMS traffic goes from phone to phone. MMS also provides support for e-mail addressing. Hence, messages can also be sent from phone to e-mail and back. In addition to content type used for SMS text , MMS messages can contain still Images, voice or audio clip, and presentation information. A multimedia message is a multimedia presentation created by the sender using, for example predefined templates alternatively the content can be obtained ready made from a third-party content provider. The message can be delivered using to a push to the recipient’s phone and the recipient is notified only after the whole message has been received. MMS transport is carried out using WAP protocols and any bearer capable of supporting WAP can be used. Therefore MMS is bearer independent, i.e, MMS is not only limited to only GSM or WCDMA. the wireless session protocol(WSP) specified in the WAP forum, is used for message transport from phone to MMSC and from MMSC to phone. in addition WAP push features are used to deliver the message from the serverto the recipient. MMS uses WAP protocols, but is a separatephone application, independent from the browser. As the MMS concept is built upon SMS the target of service is to bring a new facility to the mass market of MMS users.
ABSTRACT

With the rapid development of communication networks, it is expected that fourth generation mobile systems will be launched within decades. Fourth generation (4G) mobile systems focus on seamlessly integrating the existing wireless technologies including GSM, wireless LAN, and Bluetooth. This contrasts with third generation (3G), which merely focuses on developing new standards and hardware. 4G systems will support comprehensive and personalized services providing stable system performance and quality service. This paper gives the details about the need for mobile communication and its development in various generations. In addition, the details about the working of 4G mobile communication were given. Finally, it narrates how 4G mobile communication will bring a new level of connectivity and convenience in communication.
