The Beechcraft T-34 Mentor is a propeller-driven, single-engined, military trainer aircraft derived from the Beechcraft Model 35 Bonanza. The earlier versions of the T-34, dating from around the late 1940s to the 1950s, were piston-engined. These were eventually succeeded by the upgraded T-34C Turbo-Mentor, powered by a turboprop engine. The T-34 remains in service almost six decades after it was first designed.

The T-34 was the brainchild of Walter Beech, who developed it as the Beechcraft Model 45 private venture at a time when there was no defense budget for a new trainer model. Beech hoped to sell it as an economical alternative to the North American T-6/NJ Texan, then in use by all services of the U.S. military.

WWII German Luftwaffe Bomber
The SB (Skorostnoy Bombardirovschik – High-speed Bomber) was one of the world’s first twin-engined bombers with smooth metal plating and retractable chassis. SB (ANT-40) has constructed in the A. N. Tupolev design bureau under the supervision of A.A. Archangelsky. It made its maiden flight in October 7, 1934.

M-100 engines powered first serial aircraft. They took part in Spanish Civil War (nicknamed “Katiushka” by Republicans and “Martin Bomber” by Nationalists).

Since 1937 it were produced SB with M-100A engines and three-blade propellers. These aircraft became the basis of Soviet bomber aviation. SB took part in many armed conflicts in late 30s and in the initial stage of the Soviet-German War.

In 1938 began license building of SB 2M-100 in Czechoslovakia as Avia B-71. These aircraft later served in Bulgarian Air Force and German Luftwaffe.

The Douglas Model 1186-C Long Range Special Attack Aircraft 1:72

This study was one of four submitted by Douglas Santa Monica to the US Navy Bureau of Aeronautics in 1948 to fulfill the requirements of Outline Specification 115, which called for a carrier borne attack aircraft capable of extreme performance. The vehicle had to carry a 10,000 bomb load; could not weight more than 100,000 lbs; had to fly at a 40,000 ft altitude; had to cruise out at not less than Mach 1.2; and achieve a 1,700 nm combat radius. These were extremely ambitious requirements, given the state of the art in 1948. BuAer envisioned the aircraft as a composite type capable of jettisoning, during the course of its flight, such parts of the vehicle that were not required for completion of its mission. This remarkable aircraft would have operated from The USS United States, an immense 65,000-ton supercarrier that would have been the core of the Navy’s nascent strategic nuclear bombardment capability had it not been cancelled in 1949 due to budgetary and political issues. The Douglas Model 1186-C featured an escape vehicle not unlike the X-3 Stiletto mounted on top of a huge expendable missile component. This particular design was humorously referred to as the “Flash Gordon Special” on an early blueprint of the configuration, as it certainly looked like a product of Alex Raymond’s fertile imagination. RQ-170 "Beast of Kandahar" 1:72

The RQ-170 Sentinel is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by Lockheed Martin and operated by the United States Air Force (USAF). It has been deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Development

The RQ-170 Sentinel was developed by Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works as a stealth UAV. Journalists have noted design similarities between the RQ-170 and previous stealth and UAV programs such as the RQ-3 DarkStar and Polecat. It is a tail-less flying wing aircraft with pods, presumably for sensors or SATCOMS, built into the upper surface of each wing. Few details of the UAV's characteristics have been released, but estimates of its wingspan range from approximately 65 feet (20 m)^[ to between 75 feet (23 m) and 90 feet (27 m).

The "RQ" designation indicates that the RQ-170 Sentinel does not carry weapons. Aviation Week's David A. Fulghum believes that the UAV is probably a "tactical, operations-oriented platform and not a strategic intelligence-gathering design".

The USAF confirmed the "grainy photos of a gray, flying-wing-typed unmanned airplane near Kandahar Airfield" in relation to the discussion of the RQ-170 Sentinel on 4 December 2009.^[3]^[7] A USAF colonel subsequently commented that RQ-170 is separate from the MQ-X program, which has yet to determine stealth or powerplant requirements, and thus the Sentinel will not replace the MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper drones currently in service.As of May 2011, the US Military had not released any statements concerning the Sentinel since December 2009.

Design

The RQ-170 has a flying wing design containing a single (as yet unknown) engine and is estimated by Aviation Week as being approximately 66 feet in wingspan. Its takeoff weight is estimated as being greater than the RQ-3 DarkStar's, which was 8,500 pounds. The design lacks several elements common to stealth engineering, namely notched landing gear doors and sharp leading edges. It has a curved wing planform, and the exhaust is not shielded by the wing. Aviation Week postulates that these elements suggest the designers have avoided 'highly sensitive technologies' due to the near certainty of eventual operational loss inherent with a single engine design and a desire to avoid the risk of compromising leading edge technology. The publication also suggests that the medium-grey color implies a mid-altitude ceiling, unlikely to exceed 50,000 feet since a higher ceiling would normally be painted darker for best concealment. The postulated weight and ceiling parameters suggests the possible use of a General Electric TF34 engine or a variant in the airframe.

On the basis of the few publicly-available photographs of the RQ-170, aviation expert Bill Sweetman has assessed that the UAV is equipped with an electro-optical/infrared sensor and possibly an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar mounted in its belly fairing. He has also speculated that the two fairings over the UAV's wings may house datalinks and that the belly and above wing fairings could be designed for modular payloads, allowing the UAV to be used for strike missions and electronic warfare.

The Jungle Cutter was a Soviet vehicle designed for clearing a path through dense vegetation. With two giant spinning circular saws on its front for cutting down trees, and wood chippers to reduced cleared debris into bits, it could hack a roadway through the jungle so that a convoy of vehicles could follow.
In 1957 , Soviet forces under the command of Irina Spalko and Antonin Dovchenko brought a Jungle Cutter to their base in Brazil for use in their expedition to find Akator . After a captive Indiana Jones helped decipher the addled words of Harold Oxley of where the Crystal Skull of Akator was to be returned, the Soviets began a trek through the rain forest with the Jungle Cutter in the lead.

After Indiana Jones, Mutt Williams, and Marion Ravenwood freed themselves in their truck, Indiana Jones used a rocket-propelled grenade to stop the Jungle Cutter. His attack caused one of the two sawblades to come loose, and it bounded backwards through the convoy, wrecking vehicles, and even damaging the truck that Marion was driving.
Unfortunately for Indy, the jungle was thin enough for the remaining Russian vehicles to drive through and continue on their mission, making Indy and his companions crew race for Akator against Spalko and her troops.

Husky -Towing/Mine Detection Vehicle (T/MDV)- 1:35

The VMMD system comprises two Husky Vehicles; one can act as a Mine Detection Vehicle (MDV), while the second can fulfill the role of a Towing/Mine Detection Vehicle (T/MDV) which tows the set of three "Duisendpoot" Mine Detonation Trailers (MDT's). Alternatively, both Husky Vehicles can be operated in tandem as MDVs or T/MDVs.The system comes complete with one set of Spare Wheel Modules, which includes tools and other spare parts grouped together in a kit known as a Redpack.

In a classical route-clearance operation, the MDV sweeps the route ahead of the T/MDV towing the MDTs, traveling between 15 and 50 km/h, depending on the nature of the terrain. Integral Pulse Induction Metal Detectors signal the presence of a landmine (even with low metal content) or IED/EFP as the vehicle drives over its location.

Upon detection of a suspected target, the MDV is reversed to pinpoint and mark the location of the signal. The vehicle then drives forward to clear the way for the mine disposal team to investigate the source of the signal, and to clear the detected landmines or IEDs/EFPs.

The T/MDV-MDT combination, equipped with the same detection and marking equipment as the MDV, follows behind it, and acts as a proofing system. Plastic pressure fused landmines that are unable to be detected by the vehicle's sensors, are exploded by the trailing MDT module, which covers a 3.3 meter path.

In the event that the MDT detonates a landmine, the trailers can be released pneumatically from the cab of the T/MDV, which drives clear of the blast area to allow the back-up crews to check for other devices, and affect repairs to the damaged trailer.

Having an operator in the loop, provides a huge advantage during route clearance operations, as an experienced operator often identifies the location of explosive devices and merely uses the sensors at his disposal to confirm or refute the presence thereof.

At a speed of 50 km/h, the VMMD system is capable of covering a distance of at least 300km in a day. Ongoing improvements to the detection system and developments in shielding Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) have greatly enhanced the nighttime capability of the system, as detection operations can now be carried out while the alternator is running.

RSD (A Division of DCD-DORBYL (Pty) Ltd) a South African company and Critical Solutions International (CSI) a U.S. corporation have been committed partners since the IVMMD System was introduced into the U.S. market in 1994. CSI is responsible for in country training of crews and assembly of as well as in country support and maintenance on the fielded systems. This is accomplished by deploying Field Service Representatives (FSR's) and specialist Trainers with the systems, and ensuring a continuous flow of replacement parts. This approach has proved to be very successful in identifying soldier requirements in the field, which may not have become apparent without the contractor being involved on the front end.

We first announced our intent to form a Joint Venture (JV), at the UXO/Countermine Forum in Las Vegas during July 2006 which provides for the manufacturing of the Program of Record VMMD Systems in the USA. We are pleased to confirm that our JV, Mobility Systems International (MSI) has been established and will commence operations by the end of 2009. MSI is a U.S. owned and controlled entity, ensuring support to VMMD systems acquired under the Program of Record. Through this JV we also intend to expand our product range to include Mine and Ballistic Protected Personnel Carriers.

Alkett VsKfz 617 -Minesweeper 1:35

This bizarre armored tractor was jointly designed by Alkett, Krupp and Mercedes-Benz with a silhouette truly worthy of a machine of science fiction.

The hull of the vehicle was covered in variable shielding between 10-40 mm, with a floor shielding of 40 mm designed to resist the explosion of multiple mines. The floor itself was reinforced by an additional shielding of 20 mm inside the machine for added protection.

The first prototype VsKfz was completed in 1942. The presence of manufacturing plates in the vehicle makes it possible to establish the following conclusions: The manufacturer was Alkett of Berlin and on a plate Nmr VsKfz 617 and Nmr 9537 is engraved. VsKfz 617 refers to a Pzkfw 1 tank and 9537 is the chassis number. That would imply that the turret is of an Ausf. A type but this one has the specific characteristics of an Ausf. B; in particular, the hooks of turret (Traghaken) are located on the top and not the side walls of an Ausf. A. The superstructure possesses a turret of the Pz.Kpfw I tank which is equipped with two 7.92mm MG-34 machine guns ensuring the close defense of the machine.

During these ground displacements, the changes of direction were accomplished by orientation of an aft wheel controlled by a system of chains actuated by a wheel. The mobility of the machine was ensured by two enormous discs on which heavy mobile shoes were fixed which were theoretically resistant to the explosions of all mines. These shoes have a form resembling those which equipped the wheels of heavy pieces of German PAK artillery. The principal role of the vehicle was the detonation of mines to obtain a cleared access path for German infantry and AFVs. This was to be achieved by the exercise of a very strong ground pressure using the nine shoes with permanent ground contact.

During the trial tests, it proved that this vehicle was unsuited to the operations of modern mechanized warfare. Its ponderous weight, slow speed, and its awkward size made the Minenräumer (minesweeper) a large target for opposing artillery and the project was thus abandoned.

In April 1945, during their advance, Soviet troops captured this vehicle in the center of the testing grounds of Kummersdorf. Stored a few times in Dresden, it was then dispatched to the USSR. In 1947, it underwent several evaluation tests. Unfortunately, the bad conditions of storage and the carriage had caused irrevocable damage with the mine clearance system so the tests were limited to a short evaluation of movements instead.

The Alkett VsKfz now resides in the Kubinka Museum outside Moscow.

The Mbombe is a mine-protected, high-mobility, armoured fighting vehicle that is produced by Paramount Group in South Africa
The vehicle was unveiled on 20 September 2010 at the African Aerospace & Defence Exhibition, the largest aviation and defence show in Africa, held in Cape Town. Mbombe is named after a famed African warrior
Vehicle specs
Mbombe has an unladen weight of 16,000 kg and a maximum combat weight of 27,000 kg, carrying a crew of 11. The Mbombe’s six speed automatic gearbox provides a maximum speed of 100 km/h and the vehicle has a 700 km range. Using a 6x6 configuration, the Mbombe is able to carry considerable loads over all types of terrain without loss of mobility.
The vehicles three axles provide excellent cross country performance and make it an exceptionally versatile platform that can be modified to meet the exact requirements of military operations around the world.
The Mbombe is equipped with a Cummins ISBe4 diesel: 300kw engine integrated with an Allison 6 speed automatic transmission. The engine parts are used around the world, allowing the Mbombe to be repaired and serviced in most countries without having to invest in an independent logistics system.
Armour
The Mbombe hull provides excellent stopping power against ballistic attack in excess of STANAG 4569 Level 4. This means the vehicle can withstand a 10 kg TNT blast under its hull or any wheel station. As standard the Mbombe offers all-round crew protection against RPG threats while special protection modules provide protection against IE
Ds, up to 50 kg TNT at 5 metres.
Armament
The vehicle can be equipped with a heavy machine gun or autocannon. Mbombe can also be fitted with day and night vision capability and sensors to extend the ranges of observation and engagement, dependent on the customer’s requirements.
Functions
Mbombe can be configured as an Armoured Personnel Carrier, Combat Vehicle, Command Vehicle or ambulance. The Mbombe can be fitted with a variety of weapons stations, including a 30mm overhead weapons station.

G6 Rhino 155-mm self propelled gun howitzer 1:35

The G6 Rhino is fitted with a 155-mm gun-howitzer, developed from the G5 towed gun-howitzer and additionally fitted with semi-automatic loading system and fume extractor. The G6 Rhino fires HE-FRAG, smoke, illumination and incendiary rounds. It is compatible with all NATO 155-mm ammunition. A total of 47 rounds are carried. Maximum range of fire is 30 km with standard HE-FRAG projectile and 39 km with rocket-assisted. It also fires newly developed velocity enhanced long range projectiles with a maximum range of 50 km.

The G6 Rhino can fire the first round within 60 seconds. Out of action time is 30 seconds, which allows to avoid counter-battery fire and gives shoot-and-scoot capability.

Secondary armament consists of 12.7-mm machine gun, mounted on top of the roof. There are also a number of smoke grenade dischargers.

The G6 Rhino has a welded hull and turret. It's front arc provides protection against 20-mm rounds. All-round protection is against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. This vehicle is well protected against landmines. This artillery system is fitted with an automatic fire suppression system. An NBC protection system can also be fitted, if required. Some firing ports are provided for the crew.

Vehicle has a crew of five, including commander, gunner, two loaders and driver.

Unlike many other self-propelled artillery systems the G6 Rhino is based on wheeled 6x6 chassis. It is powered by a diesel engine, developing 525 hp. It is also fitted with auxiliary power unit, which powers all system when the engine is turned off.

Junkers Ju EF112 1:35

This design for a ground-attack aircraft was submitted to the RLM by Junkers in December 1942. The wings had a straight leading edge and the short fuselage was mounted high on top of the wing. Power was supplied by two Daimler Benz DB 603G piston engines (each developing 1460 horsepower). One engine was mounted in the nose pulling and one was mounted in the fuselage tail pushing, this had the advantage of providing the power of two engines but lowering drag by putting the engines in-line. An internal bomb bay beneath the cockpit could hold a single 500 kg (1102 lbs) bomb
There were two booms which attached to the bottom of the wing surfaces, they extended to the rear and contained the vertical tail assembly. A horizontal tail connected the booms at the rear. The main landing gear were located in the booms and retracted to the rear. The pilot sat in a cockpit located above the wing leading edge under a cnopy that would have provided good vision all around. Armament consisted of two MK 103 30 mm cannon with an option to carry four R 100 Bordraketen air-to-air rockets.
The RLM showed no interest in the Junkers Ju EF112 and rejected the project.

The U.S. Army M977 A2 HEMTT series mobility tactical truck has been developed by Oshkosh Truck Corporation for cross-country military missions carrying payloads up to 13 tons (9979 kg). The full line up of M977 A2 models, five cargo trucks, a fuel servicing truck, a load handling system. With multiple capabilities, these trucks are critical to mission success. The M977 A2 vehicles are used for direct rearming of the Multiple Launch Rocket System; transport of Patriot erectors/launchers; resupply of field artillery ammunition and forward area rearm in armor, cavalry and infantry units; refueling of tracked vehicles, wheeled vehicles and helicopters in forward areas; and recovery of disabled wheeled and tracked vehicles. The two-person, two-door forward control cab is of heavy-duty welded steel construction with corrosion-resistant skins. To reduce procurement and life cycle costs, the HEMTT features extensive use of commercial automotive components including an Oshkosh truck cab, standard eight-cylinder diesel engine and a standard four-speed automatic transmission.

The P-800 Oniks (Russian: П-800 Оникс, alternatively termed Yakhont (Яхонт) for export markets; "Oniks" is onyx, and "Yakhont" is ruby or sapphire in English) is a Russian (former Soviet) supersonic anti-ship cruise missile developed by NPO Mashinostroyeniya as a ramjet version of P-80 Zubr. Its GRAU designation is 3M55. Development reportedly started in 1983, and by 2001 allowed the launch of the missile from land, sea, air and submarine. The missile has the NATO reporting codename SS-N-26. It is reportedly a replacement for the P-270 Moskit, but possibly also for the P-700 Granit. The P-800 was reportedly used as the basis for the joint Russian-Indian supersonic missile the PJ-10 BrahMos.

Sergei Prikhodko, senior adviser to the Russia President, has said that Russia intends to deliver P-800 to Syria. However Syria lacks any aircraft that can launch this missile and any ability to track targets over the horizon for it, so will be limited to line of sight attacks from ships and ground platforms. Israel is more concerned that these missiles may be transferred to Hezbollah for a repeat of the INS Hanit incident.

Horten Ho XVIII B-2 1:72

In the Autumn of 1944 The RLM issued a requirement for a bomber capable of reaching the east cost of the USA and deliver a 4-ton bomb-load or 'special' weapon without refuelling. The Horten brothers(among others) submitted their Amerika Bomber scheme in various configurations of power-plant and wing arrangement (this initial design was a much more elegant flying wing).

On 23rd March 1945 and after much debate the contract was finally awarded to the Hortens by Göring. Junkers and Messerschmitt were to control production and they their own ideas about the aircraft. Modifications were suggested (such as the large tail-fin) some of which which were reluctantly agreed to by the Hortens. The aircraft was to be constructed of 'salvage'' materials such as tubular steel and plywood. Powered by 6 x Junkers Jumo 109-004H turbojets and armed with remote guns in the nose and tail. It is reported that construction commenced on 1st April 1945 in the underground workshops in Thinguria, central Germany.

the APS-3 "Anoa" (Indonesian: Angkut Personel Sedang, English: Medium Personnel Carrier) is a 6x6 armoured personnel carrier developed by PT Pindad of Indonesia. The APS-3 is named after the Anoa, which is a type of buffalo indigenous to Indonesia. The prototype was first unveiled at the 61st anniversary of TNI on October 5, 2006 in TNI HQ at Cilangkap, south of capital Jakarta.^[1]^[2]

The Pindad APS-3 had been officially unveiled to the public at the Indo Defence & Aerospace 2008 exhibition on November 19, 2008^[3] to November 22, 2008^[4] after being shown in a TNI parade on October 5, 2008.^[5] On August 30, 2008, 10 APS-3's have been produced^[6] with the plan of having 150 vehicles to be produced for the Indonesian Army^[7]^[8] in time for their first deployment in 2009.^[9] 20 of the Pansers were handed over to the Indonesian government through the Defense Ministry, part of a deal from the initial 150 vehicles to 40 due to the economic crisis.^[10] 40 Pansers were delivered as part of PT Pindad's commitment to the total delivery of 154 Pansers.^[11] 33 Pansers were eventually submitted to the Ministry of Defence on January 13, 2010.^[12] Pindad had received loans from state-owned Bank Mandiri, Bank BNI 46 and Bank BRI as part of payments for the manufacture of the Pansers.^[10]

Development

The development history of the Pindad Panser was started in 2003 as a result of increased military intervention in the Aceh province. During the conflict, the Indonesian Army put forward urgent requirements for an armored personnel carrier for the transport of troops.

Pindad responded to this requirement in 2004, with the APR-1V (Angkut Personel Ringan)^[13]Izuzu truck chassis. 14 vehicles were built by Pindad and were sent to Aceh for evaluation and combat trials. However, the follow-on orders for another 26 vehicles were canceled following the 2004 tsunami. a 4x4 armored vehicle based on a commercial

Pindad continued the APC development program with assistance from the Agency For Assessment and Application of Technology or BPPT in 2005.^[14] The next prototype was the APS-1 (Angkut Personel Sedang), a 6x6 design that was again based on a commercial Perkasa truck platform by PT Texmaco.^[15] Although it was not selected for production, the experience gained in developing the APS-1 convinced the Indonesian Army to give the go-ahead by Pindad to develop the next generation of Panser vehicles, the APS-2 at a production cost of 600 million rupiah or US$60,000 each.source

The O-2 Skymaster (also known as the "Oscar Deuce" or "The Duck") is a military version of the Cessna 337 Super Skymaster utilized as an observation and forward air control (FAC) aircraft. The United States Air Force commissioned Cessna to build a military variant to replace the O-1 Bird Dog in 1966.

Design and development

As with the civilian version, the Skymaster was a low cost twin-engine piston powered aircraft, with one engine in the nose of the aircraft and a second engine in the rear of the fuselage. The push-pull configuration meant a simpler single-engine operating procedure due to centerline thrust compared to the common low-wing mounting of most twin engine light planes, and also allowed for a high wing, providing clear observation below and behind the aircraft. During the Vietnam War, the Skymaster was intended to be replaced in the forward air control (FAC) mission by the OV-10 Bronco, but the O-2A maintained a night mission role after the OV-10's introduction due to the OV-10's high level of cockpit illumination, rendering night reconnaissance impractical.^[1] The O-2 was phased out completely after additional OV-10 night upgrades.^[2]^[3]

The first O-2 flew in January 1967 and the plane went into production shortly thereafter, with the USAF taking delivery in March 1967. A total of 532 O-2s were built in two variants for the USAF by 1970. The O-2A served as a FAC aircraft with the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron, while the O-2B was equipped with loudspeakers and a leaflet dispenser for use in the psychological operations (PSYOPS) role. Several USAF O-2 aircraft were later transferred to and operated by the former VNAF South Vietnamese Air Force.^[3]

Following the Vietnam War, the O-2 continued to operate with both U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard units well into the late 1980s. Six former USAF O-2A airframes were also transferred to the U.S. Navy in 1983 for use as "range controllers" with Attack Squadron 122 A-7 Corsair II at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California. The six Navy O-2A's remained in this role until September 1990, when they were replaced by T-34C Turbo Mentor aircraft transferred from the Naval Air Training Command. Four of the Navy O-2A aircraft were retired and two of these became civil registered in October 1991. These two aircraft were flown in U.S. airshows performing a "Viet Nam Warbird COIN/FAC" routine during the 1990s. The routine debuted at the "Wings Over Houston" (Texas) airshow in October 1991.^{[citation needed]}

Of the six USN aircraft mentioned above, two were transferred to the U.S. Army in late 1990.^[4] O-2As had originally entered the U.S. Army's inventory in 1967 from USAF stocks and were augmented by the 1990 aircraft transfer from the U.S. Navy. Several disassembled USAF O-2s remain in storage at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona.^[4] Two O-2As were used at Laguna Army Airfield, Arizona as part of testing programs carried out by the Yuma Proving Ground.
