Somehow I have always been fascinated by mushrooms. The umbrella like tops and the soft soft rings underneath. Nature is a wonder isn't it? And everyday is a gift!
So I decided to color up a mushroom image and make a card.

This is a digi stamp from Make it Crafty. They do have some wonderful images.
The beautiful sentiment is from paper trey ink (I think from the buttons collection or tag collection I am not sure). It is the perfect sentiment to recapture that moment.
The tag itself is cut using a nestability. I just snipped off one end.
The mats for the card is recollections Kraft paper while all the papers are from DCWV green stack (8 x 8 ) .
The card itself is 6.25x6.25 inches. I used a prima flower and stacked it up with another acrylic flower to then finally added a red heart pearl for the center. The paper clip was from Walmart. I added a big white pearl heart to it.
And of course I loved pulling out my new brother )Costco) sewing machine and adding a decorative stitch to the mushroom square. I added a small satin ribbon to the tag.
Maybe this will stay as a card or I might just add this whole thing as a panel in a scrapbook page. I might just have to go back to that part of the lake again with a camera!

This is Pam from Papillon Digital Designs & The Bug Bytes
Today is my turn as a designer at http://shesasassylady.blogspot.com/
Thanks Sheila for giving us all the opportunity to post in your blog

When I went to Florida my friend Michelle had got some wonderful stamps with her and also taught me the way to stamp properly on paper. I loved some of her stamps so much - especially this one by Krafting Kimmy that I had to get some for myself along with Sugar Nelly stamps.
I thought this image would make a wonderful (and a little bit naughty) card to give to hubby on our 20th wedding anniversary last week.

The image is colored with copics. The pattern paper is one I designed myself and the kit and the post is one of my first post in Papillon Digital Design blog - http://papillondigitaldesigns.com/2010/08/welcome.html .

The peacock feather is a silhouette studio file which is also available at Papillon Digital Designs
I got the pendant from Micheal's and the fiber/ribbon is from India. I have used white gel pen, black sharpie and gold metallic acrylic ink and a brush to embellish the pattern paper and the feather. The oval scallop (image) and the blue oval scallop is a nestability.

A view of the silhouette studio file

Once again Sheila thanks for having me on here.
Hope you all liked the card. Thank you for reading

This time I used Parchment font to make the butterfly and the border ( I have used letters b, d , f and o for the butterfly and just o for the border) and then for the label mat I used letter o from pass the chex font and welded and then offset it to get the scalloped dark brown mat.
You learn a lot by these challenges. This month's card challenge is take any letters from any font and weld and play with it to make a design from it and then make a card. I used Monterey BT font and used the letters c, v and z. I slanted/slewed them and elongated them and flipped and welded to make a frame and then placed other elements and made this card
I used print and cut feature for pattern including the wood pattern. Offset feature came in very very handy. I loved playing with letters this way. So many unique frame patterns can be made this way. I remember doing this on gypsy in the beginning when we had the old gypsy message board. Oh those fun days!.

This is Pam from PapillonDigitalDesigns & TheBugBytes today on Shes a Sassylady.
Thank you Sheila on having me as along as a member of your awesome design team. I go slack jawed seeing some of the creations here. So So inspiring!
This month my design day fell on Good Friday. Also Easter is this Sunday.
Now even if I am from a different religion I believe in the entity called God and I believe in celebrating festivals from all religion.
So I wanted to make some cards for both. Easter was easy. But Good Friday had me thinking.
As I ruffled the ultimate words book a particular phrase caught my attention and so ideas around that phrase popped.

Here are my projects

The basket is one I made in Silhouette studio using a template as base as I wanted this particular weave. The file is available in papillondigital designs under the silhouette tab in case you want to download.

1st card

The studio file

The pattern paper is from Oscraps called Moonrise.

Now I backed down the pattern's transparency as it was too bright and I wanted a paler version for a particular technique I wanted to try on it.

Another look at the silhouette studio file

I wanted to play upon the word thread so I used copic marker and drew in some thread texture. I could have embossed with a stylus further but I did not want to.

I did the same to the pattern paper too and then cut some white burlap to the inner rounded square size and then offset and glued them all down using some pop dots here and there to raise up
the central label.
You will see I have not cut out the base of the card as I wanted a cardstock which unified all 3 projects. I then decided to go with white and cut the base for the 2 cards using a fiskar cutter.

Once I did that I cut also a small white strip to place/stack/layer the yellow ringed paper ribbon on and also punched some white flowers using EK success medium and small flower punch. Took copic and colored one of 3 medium flowers and then added a dew drop colored with copic to match the brad on the label.

2nd card was simple

I have used the Beatrice potter print and cut image from silhouette online store and one of their patterns

A peek at the studio file

And then cut the basket. It will fit one egg the way I sized it in SD (if you have cameo you might make it a little bigger). The file can be found at Papillon digital design.

Hope you liked my project today. Happy Easter

While watercoloring I used to use Viva paper towels for picking up or sopping or mopping up extra watery paint. Also used sometime to lift colors and give fun effects. You can use ordinary tissue or paper towel but in watercolor unless you are careful you find that these leave fibers behind which the brush picks up. Viva is nice and thick unlike regualr tissues and has no texture unlike the quilted paper towels.
Now a few days back I said how the bee paper got saturated quickly especially with the copic way of blending (not flicking) or while using dark colors like reds.
So I decided why not use these paper towels. (in this case ie with copics you can probably use the tissue too) to mop/blot the colors like red which float on the surface even after just a couple of layers. And I did find this worked a bit. Happy discovery.
Oh and I think I am going to settle on starting with the medium colors and most of the time go with flicking method to color.
Still have to ways to go before I get comfortable with copics but I like the improvement so far.
I may even start mixing media soon like bringing pencils and pastels and watrcolor pencils too.

I almost got everything but forgot one tiny bit. Shadow from the hat on the - forehead. Eeks! I got the hair but by the time I came to color face (which I do last I was so happy that things were going well I forgot ). Thanks to Melissa - CFC (created from color) for bringing this to my attention.
So I have corrected the image. I had to go in with a C3. Now the paper was fairly saturated already so couldn't do much. Always better to get it right the first time I guess and go with gentle touches on paper instead of pushing the color in.
Oh I found that viva paper towels do such a great job of picking up the pooling colors on paper.
I used to use this while watercoloring as this paper towel doesn't leave fiber bits on the image and it is smooth so also does not leave texture and is thicker than tissues. Well it does help with copics too.
My corrected image with C3 and then E11 added. I did not want to blend too much because of the blotching that occurs with too much saturation

The card is an easel card using the easel card base from silhouette online store. And so is the paper ribbon. The words were typed on silhouette studio with a font I had and then cut with SD. I mostly use SD for print and cut. Paper for stamp is GinaK. Love this paper but you need to use double cut with silhouette on thickest setting. It is advisable to keep the cuts simple. . The fish was hand drawn and cut. The image is from Mos Digital Pencil. I have used diamond skittle. I am happy with the way I am coloring now. I got to practice reflection too - Yeah. Sadly the stickles glitter is covering it up a bit.

The image is from Mo's digital pencil called Abby celebrating (http://www.mosdigitalpencil.com/products/Abby-Celebrating.html)

Everything was print and cut using the silhouette SD. The pattern paper is a silhouette pattern.
I am enjoying coloring. It is so therapeutic. I am getting better at folds :). Thanks for reading . Hope you do go and break out the markers and start coloring too.
I am a designer today on Shes a Sassylady.
Sheila is an awesome lady and a wonderful friend.
Lately I have been coloring with copics. Still have ways to go before I am happy but here is a project made with the stamp I colored. This lovely digi stamp is from Elisabeth Bell called Little Rapunzel! I love her creations.
Here is the card .

No die cutting machine for this one - just Martha Stewart loopy punch for the border and corners and ek success retro flower punch for the flowers. Stickles ; ink; Cardstock ; (GinaK pure luxury cardstock for the for the stamp ); pattern paper; Floral pin and some beads for the stickpin ; cake doily ; length of yellow polka dotted ribbon - 1/4" inch and a chipboard with flocked swirl (from 3 birds) and last but not the least copic markers for coloring the image. Since the card is is odd sized I had to hand make the envelope. To close properly one piece of 12 x 12 was not enough so I added the yellow cardstock to both the front and back and made it decorative and functional.
A closer look

And the inside of the card and the back of the envelope

Thank you all readers for reading this post
Love Suzanne's coloring technique. And if you have also read my previous post you know I have become a stamp junkie.
Suzanne has a challenge once in every 2 weeks I think. I am not quite happy with my coloring yet but I thought why not start somewhere. So here is my attempt. I probably could have done a better job if I had colored on a better paper. This is Bee paper and I do not like it very much. Prefer Ginak to this. I also need to try out the cryogen paper which I will be getting soon. But I had already printed out the digital image and so went with it. The reason why I don't like Bee that much is after just 2 layer of coloring the paper refuses to accept more ink and starts becoming blotchy. It does not soak through but it does not help in blending. In this image I had go and to choose to color in red which needs more blending didn't I? Lol.
Anyway here is the card I made. One always needs to keep the early images as one can later compare how far one has improved! So here is the card without much adieu

I like the skin and hair but I should focus more on folds.
Now both these coloring was done under pressure I should say. I had a guest who wanted me to show her how I color in front of her. I told her I am a newbie but she insisted. Here's the other. I made that into a bookmark later for her

The first image is a digital stamp by SomeOddGirl called Flower Girl Mae
And the 2nd one is stamp by Suzanne Woolcott Gorjuss girl - goth girl.

It's a festival celebrated by Tamilians (South Indians) for the well being and long life of husbands. The time or date is when there on the transition between the Tamil months Maasi and Panguni. During a particular auspicious time during that day the woman takes a head bath and then makes a particular type of sweet called the adai or kozhakattai keeps it with unmelted butter in front of god and ties a sacred yellow thread around her neck. This is also done by kumari's ie young unmarried girls (for their future husband) .
This is done as it is believed that on this day Savitri snatched her husband Satyavan back from Lord of Death - Yama with her cleverness and her vratha (ritual ) (by which she could see Lord yama) - More of the story can be read at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savitri_and_Satyavan
So woke up early today as my mom told I have to do all this by 7:30 AM
Preparing the kozhakattai or sweet adai took some time
I roasted the rice flour and then roasted the some black eyed beans and boiled the beans. Then melted some jaggery in microwave and then in a pan added the jaggery water and then the roasted rice flour , some shredded coconut , crushed cardamom and the beans and stirred till it formed a dough. Then allowed it to cool and then formed it into balls the size of lemon and flattened them and steamed them like we do for idli in a pressure cooker. Then kept these along with the some fruits , butter in front of god - prayed saying these words "Urukaatha vennayum oradiayum naan nootren, orukaalam en kanavan piriyammal irukkanum" (which translated means I kept unmelted butter and one adai and tied the thread, always my husband should not be separated from me ) and then tied the yellow thread.
I blame it on Suzanne J dean and Melissa from Melissa Made and Kristy (whose classes I have been taking). Looking at their blogs and watching them color - Have to try that technique out.
And as many of these places have digi's instant gratification. I already knew some places like mo's digital pencil and susana's custom arts and designs, sweetpeastamps, someoddgirls 7college funds, simonsaysstamps, tiddly inks and bugaboo. But new places I found - allthatscraps,I brake for stamps, stampin scrappin, phindy's place, simply bettey's, kenny k (ooh the ladies on here - also check out braz's coloring pages for some girl images to color ), sassy studio , paper shelter, fred she said and funkykits (sugar nellie stamps).
Of course dont forget you can get tons of images when you google for coloring pages and digi images. Some of my favorite digi's are from sliekje and annabodil.
I tend to start after I finish one round of watching so I have now watched one round of suzanne dean's videos and kristy's and melissa's videos. So now the coloring begins. I might post if they turn out ok. If they are deplorable!! then it will end up in trash can :)
He(or She ) has a picture from my instructor in California from whom I learnt watercolor. She was so talented and even more such a great instructor. Those classes are the main thing I miss after moving from California. To see the picture click on this link - http://kevindaniel.x10.mx/california.html
Seeing things like this makes me realise that with me into copics and I am sure very soon I will be back into watercolor painting - I have almost come full circle. I deviated from the path when I took up papercrafting to check out colors in my painting. One of the thing we are advised to do is to check papers - pattern papers to learn how colors mix and what effect they get. I somehow ended up with a cricut and then gypsy and Oh Girl! What an Adventure! I guess I took the long route and now I am almost back on path!
I am having fun learning Copics. Both at Melissa's and Kristy's and from Suzanne J Dean. I prefer to color dark to light and so so happy to see another person doing the same.
Over the weeks I will try to post my coloring efforts. So I can keep track of how I have improved.
Also waiting for certification classes to come to Houston. I really want to take that one.
It is so nice to see friendly faces in both the classes I am taking. It makes the learning process more Fun!

Ahh my mouth watered there for a moment too when I said cup cake .
Hello - This is Pam fromPapillon Digital Designs & The Bug Bytes today as a designer on She's a Sassylady. Thanks Sheila for having me on in your lovely design team.
I had recently been to a scrap meet where we each added a few items to a goody bag. I made some flowers and one type was cupcake flowers. They are very simple to put together and make a lovely embellishment on a card.
Here are some

I have used 1 regular cupcake wrapper and 2 mini wrappers to make these flowers. You can use the white ones (2nd flower) and ink the edges or use decorative wrappers (1st one) to make the flowers.

Here are pictures of the various steps in the process.

I have used sharpie to show where to cut but you can eyeball and cut.
Fold the wrappers into quarters as they are easy to cut and saves you time too. Also you can cut the circumference to layer well

As you can see above I had to cut down the large one and 1 mini so that they can progressively stack together nicely

You have to cut the line almost to center. Do not cut completely or you will be left with strips

Since you have folded in quarters you have to cut the side (on one side you have to cut once and on the other twice in each slit as shown in the picture above and below)

Then cut the lines. You can leave it like that but I like to kind of round off the petals so

Opened up they look like this

After you cut all the 3 you can ink them if you want and then stack them and add a brad or decorative button to the center..

Here a simple and fast card I made with the flower. I have used ric rac, candi dots (brad like dots without the pin portion) and 1 small cake doily which I cut apart to use on front and the inside

Aren't they easy to make? Can't wait to see you make and decorate them.

Thanks for reading this post and thank you sheila for having me here today.

This is Pam from Papillondigitaldesigns today on Papercraft Weekend Challenge.
Thank you Allison and Caroline for having me as your designer today.
It's a bit cold in Texas but warm colorful spring is almost here! And nothing says spring like flowers and butterflies. So today on Theme Friday of course I had to make something with both.
Not quite spring yet so I chose not to do very colorful.

This was cut with silhouette sd. and the card is just 4 x 4 inches. For intricate cuts silhouette is the way to go!

A peek at the silhouette file

The card base is just 2 rounded rectangles welded together. The intricate butterfly lace is a design from silhouette online store - http://www.silhouetteonlinestore.com/v2/viewShape.aspx?id=22873
Now I did not want to cut the lace out So I first inserted the mat and used a silhouette pen to trace the butterfly on to a kraft cardstock. While doing this make sure to set the card base to "no cut" (in the scissor or cut window) and just the butterfly lace to "cut" . Then after drawing the silhouette goes back to original position . DO NOT UNLOAD THE MAT. But just change your marker to blade - I used the red blade at settings 3 & 33 (ie depth and speed) - and then cut.
Next I created another file which I cut with white cardstock - again using the marker for just the sentiment "Thank you".

Then I stickled the butterfly lace design on the front with diamond stickles. I colored parts of the scalloped butterfly doily with copic markers and stickled and blinged them. I also colored just the leaf in the oval leaf frame and just a dab of color in the flower corner (butterfly doily - http://www.silhouetteonlinestore.com/v2/viewShape.aspx?id=18102 ; oval leaf frame - http://www.silhouetteonlinestore.com/v2/viewShape.aspx?id=13873 & flower corner - http://www.silhouetteonlinestore.com/v2/viewShape.aspx?id=3057 ) . I did cut a plain circle out thinking I would mat the scalloped circle but then decided not to.

Inside of the card

To just give an idea about the intricacy of the cuts here is the card next to a bic ball point pen (not the thicker gel pen but the smaller ball point pen - yep ! I am laying it on really thick aren't I ? But I just love the cameo and SD so just had to do it! Impressed ?)

Oh ! I added some pearls both the half pearl sticker and also used the perfect pearl pen apart from the stickles. I wanted to use those Candi that Caroline enabled but decided to save it and go with pearls as candi's were a bit large for this card.
The Macaws gave us quite a pose.
All the photos were taken in Raw mode and in either mostly program, aperture or manual mode.
I have edited the photo size and quality for web.

This is Pam @ Papillon Digital Designs & The Bug Bytes - your designer today at She's a Sassylady .
I am so thankful to Sheila for not only giving me an opportunity to share here but for being such a great great friend!! Valentine day is approaching soon and many of us are in a rush to make gifts and cards. So I thought I would make it simple on myself and make quick gifts and cards. Last year I had gone to Target and got some mailboxes and decorated them. (The gypsy file is on my blog if you want to make one of those). This year when I went to pick more of them for myself and my friend - I found more cute things there - heart shaped plastic boxes. I also picked up some dollar items - ribbons, heart candy gems, foam sticker shapes and $1:00 paper pack and best of all heart shape doilies which seems to perfect for the box. And of course you gotta have candy!! So I got some jelly beans candy packets and M & M's. I also ( I think I am "also" too many times but..) had empty washed Bertolli pasta sauce glass bottle which I thought would make an ideal gift when decorated. Armed with all this plus some bling, twine and different kinds of adhesives I tackled the .. uhh delicately of course as the items are a bit fragile :)..
Now I have joined the copics class my friend Melissa is teaching and I wanted to start practising and get some digital stamps all ready for when the class begins. When I saw this stamp - http://www.mosdigitalpencil.com/products/Cotton-Candy.html thanks to my friend Kymberlee of course I had to get it and use it.

Here's my project

Very very quick to assemble. The card is also a quick card with base as an ivory card and envelope from Micheal's or Hobby Lobby and the rest of elements from my target supplies.

Printing and cutting designs like my own, Dover or digital stamps like these - is why I love my silhouette. I use SD for print and cut of standard paper. I cut the stamp with height of 2 1/4 inches as I did not want it to be taller than the bottle. And boy! is that tiny for me to color after coloring up 15" x 22 " watercolor paper!!! Small real estate I tell you!! But I am enjoying coloring nevertheless. Makes me feel like a miniature painter!! :)

Here is the look at the silhouette file

(click on picture to see it enlarged a bit).

My attempt at coloring with copic markers

Closer look

Heart shaped Target box. Don't you love those doilies? just a buck for 25 of them. And I am so happy with my eyeballing of the heart shape - "be mine" which I cut with Silhouette.

The bottle

The card

Thank you & Happy Valentine to all of you my friends and do share your project with us here at Sassy's.

Hello Readers
This is Pam from Papillon Digital Designs. Thanks Carolyn and Allison for having me on today.
Today's project challenge is doing "Something New/Something inspiring"
I love the above quote as it is especially apt today as not only am I doing a Layout which is not in my comfort zone but my layout subject is Mine - Independence Mine - Alaska.
My layout is an interactive-spinner layout. I was inspired by hot of the press spinner template. But I did not like the heart and oval shapes that came with. So decided to use cameo for making my own.
Here is the layout

Now I will be garrulous and try to explain both how and why I chose to do what I did as I go along.
First thing I did was make a silhouette file

The white spinner wheel is cut as a template so that you can put a brad and then turn it to mark the frame for the photos on the actual spinner wheel. The frame on the spinner is 1/4 " lesser than the opening on the layout to give it a mat effect ( I used 3x2 photos so the opening on top is 3-1/4" x 2 -1/4". Now these pictures will maybe show what I am talking about better.

So after you come to this stage just attach a foam to the spinner. Make sure if you are using foam dots/pop dots to dust the outer side with powder so that it does not stick to the top of the layout for then it will not spin. Then using a brad assemble the layout.

Now my choice of papers. Since the pictures were more of blues I decided to use a red orange pattern to give a contrast to the pictures. I also decided that the plaid design will kind of give a solid feeling as the subject matter is a Mine. That's why I did not round the corners too. But I needed some curves though not dominant but as an accent. So I decided to make a kind of mountain pattern on another pattern paper. Now for the embellishments. I took some of the pictures itself and traced it on silhouette studio and cropped it and did a print and cut. I also took some gold coin and silver bar images from online and did the same. I did not find a gold dust bottle souvenir image so decided to make my own using some circles and rounded square. After cutting them out with cameo then for the first time I took out my yourstory and then using a scotch hot laminating sheet from walmart - laminated all the cut outs. Gives it a nice sticker effect as I did not want to use glossy accents. Then I tool perfect pearls and with some water (for setting the perfect pearls) and brush applied some gold copper and silver color to get a nice shine in some areas. They look lovely at an angle. I also cut some trees and stickled the tree and the title. Then I used a Martha Stewart triangle punch (which I had got from walmart way back) for border and then attached a gold ribbon (Costco) to it. Some metal flowers and leaves and suede leather bows completed the rest . Here is a closer look at the layout. I still have to fill in the journaling on the white strips

The interactive part when you spin the wheel (of course you have to cut a slit in the page protector so that you can spin and maybe also add an arrow and words spin so that the viewer can spin it to see the rest)

So today's challenge on do something new is to do a card or layout which is interactive - be it a spinner like this or an accordion fold or a hidden tag. One good resource other than the web of course is the Book - Magic by Jeanette Lynton.

Thank you all for reading

Make sure you have the marks set to silhouette sd as they are different in auto feature and cameo
I promised my friends that I would more of silhouette studio videos. So today let's explore the fill feature in SDS. I have used the designer version as that's what I have and I highly recommend that is you can afford it and can find a discount to go for this as it opens up so many more fun features like opening svg files, cool sketch option and the knife and eraser and ruler.
Without much adieu here is video
Ohhsnap - hope you are watching as you were the one who pointed me in this cartridge's direction as soon as I came back from my trip.
Here's my layout

Choose coordinating pattern paper and solid cardstocks. Mat
the photos. Photos used are 5x7, 2.5x2.5 & 3 - 3x3 photos). Cut moose and
bear at 3.75 inches and cut 2 types of fox at 2.75inches from the Cricut Lite
Wildlife cartridge. Cut away the puppies from one of the foxes. Use Gypsy to
weld Title. Words Alaskan and Crossing are welded from Hello kitty font -
rounded letters - cut at 1.75 inches. Outdoors is welded and cut from cursive 101
cartridge - cut at 1 inch. Print paw prints at about 0.8-0.9 inches each on
transparency. Also prints out a sketchy road with paw prints (I used Adobe Photoshop).
I glimmer misted a cake doily and also cut a circle out of pattern paper for
center of the doily to layer. Assemble the layout & add embellishment.
