The total time it took for a behavior to become habit ranged from 18 to 254 days. That's a marathon, not a sprint, and experts say motivation is key; you've got to pick something that you really want to do and that offers a genuinely rewarding outcome.

Golf With Confidence

Bobby Jones, one of the greatest golfers ever to play the game, once said: "Golf is a game played on a six-inch course. Between your ears." Golf is defiantly a mind game and in order to play with confidence you need to stay in focus and have a game plan. You can't make a good shot without confidence.

Before you Swing
Step 1:
Golf is a mind game and in order to play with confidence you need to stay in focus and have a game plan. You can't make a good shot without confidence. Before you swing you have to find your target and landing area. Here in the photo on the par three 10th hole at Horsham Valley we can see a targeting the sky. This is where we will aim for or trajectory of our ball and we also see a target on the green. This is our landing area. In order to build confidence we need to see these targets in our mind so we know where the ball is going. To keep your mind clear your last thought would be the target and letting the ball go to the target. There are also steps that lead up to this.
Step 2:
Assess the target and the trouble in the shot. Sand, Water, rough. Find the best spot where if you do miss the shot you won't end up with any chance of recovery.
Step 3:
Stick to your pre shot routine to make sure we are aiming at our intended target and feel our tempo so we will swing the club not hit the ball. At this time we can also recall a great shot we hit in the past that was around the same distance. During our practice swing we can feel and remember the tempo we had on that great shot. This is a great confidence builder because we have done it before.
Step 4:
Make your last swing thought the place where you want the ball to go. Stay focused on that target and not any trouble that might be in the shot.
Step 5:After you hit your shot there is a few things to keep in mind. First is that the shot is over. If it was a good shot you can store it in the back of your mind for another day. If it was bad than throw it away and don't dwell on it or think about it until you get to it and are ready for the next shot. It might not be as bad as you think.

Number 66 for the world's greatest

Only his third tournament back and Tiger wins his 66th PGA event and his 6th Bay Hill to defend his 2007 win in as usual dramatic Tiger like fashion. We are very lucky to be here to witness the greatest golfer that has ever lived. Even under the cloud of a long layoff due to injury Tiger comes back from a five shot deficient to once again crush his competitors dreams into rubble and continue to make history. How many players would have had incredible careers if Tiger never came along. But he did and the train back is now in motion. What will be Tiger's next feat? The Master's is long over due for Tiger to grab. His last win in Augusta was in 2005 with that famous chip in on the 16th hole. Phil has his game togeather and stated that he is "looking forward to dueling down the streatch against Tiger". That is if Tiger dos'nt leave the field and Phil in his dust on Sunday. We would like to know how you feel about Tiger winning the Master's this year. Respond to this blog and let us know. Will Tiger take it or will Phil. Our pick is Tiger. Not only is it better for him but it will be better for all of us who work ,play and love the game.

Shot making

In order to play your best golf several things have to happen. But the most important is to have a solid per shot routine. Without a good pre shot routine it is hard to hit good shot more often.

Here is a example of what should happen in a good pre shot routine. You can vary what works for you but it's a good idea to stick to these steps and to use them every time you hit a shot. Weather you are on the range or the course don't change your routine. Golf needs to be reactive and this will help make that action happen.

1. Pick you target draw a line to the ball from your target.

2. Pick a point a few feet in front of the ball on the same line and aim your club at that point.

3. Align your body to the club.

4. Take your grip while standing tall.

5. Set your spine angle buy bending at the hip then flex your knees to bend down into address.

6. Take a practice swing next to the ball and brush the turf in front of the ball.

7. Take a last look at the target step up to the ball and swing following through to a full finish.

8. Hold your finish until the ball lands at the target.

Do this for every shot. It should take around a total of 30 seconds from start to finish.

Golf balls and Higher Handicap Players

Today in our simulator two older gentlemen were booked to play 18 holes. They both play to about a 25 handicap. Before they started I explained to them how the unit worked and that it was a good idea for them to use their own play while playing . I mentioned to them that they know how their ball plays. In other words how far they normally hit that ball and how it reacts to their type play. " This will make it easier for you to decide what club to hit." I said. The one gentlemen replied, " I use any ball. My handicap is so high I don't think it even matters."
I hear many high handicap players feel the same way. That they use what ever ball is the cheapest. The main problem with doing this is that you never get the same results when you hit your shot. One hole you may hit a low spin ball the next a two piece ball the next hole a high compression ball and so on. Even if you were a low handicap player playing different ball types would affect your game. Try to pick one ball type and stick with it. You'll find that at least if you hit a bad shot the pattern will be more consistent. If you like to play found balls to save money then keep the style that you play and use the rest as shag balls.

Tiger Player of the Year 08 ?

What is your take on this years race for player of the year? There are a few choice players who can contend for this spot on the PGA Tour in 08. First we'll look at major winners. The Masters was won by Trevor Immelman . It was his only win in 08. The U.S.Open was won by Tiger Woods on a broken leg. Tiger also won three other tournaments in a total of six starts. He is second on the money list with $5,775,000 in winnings . The other two majors The British Open and the PGA were both won by Padraig Harrington without Tiger in the field. The money leader and FedEx cup point leader is Vijay Singh . All of these players have a good chance in taking the title. remember that the players on tour are the ones who vote for this honor. So here at Par breakers we would like to know who you think will take the crown. Our pick is Tiger. Only because in six events one on a broken leg he won four and has not played for most of the season. Unbelievable ! Even injured he is still making history.

Lower your Handicap

The best way to lower your handicap is to look at your score card and see where you are losing the most shots. "How do I do that" you ask? Well the first thing is to start keep a record of a few things on your score card. First F.I.R. that means Fairways in regulation. Every shot you hit off the tee if you hit the fairway make a check. If you miss make a X. Now you can start to see how your driving stats look. Next is G.I.R. that is greens in regulation. How many greens do you hit a round. Last but not least is marking down how many putts you take on each hole. At the end of your round add up your stats to see how many of those shots would have helped you make par. I bet that most of the hole that you shot over par were because you missed putts. Putting is where you have the best chance on lowering your score. If you can sink more putts your handicap will drop. So the next time you go to the range work more on your putting if they have a green for you to do so. You'll help your game and save money because you can buy a Small bucket and usually putting on the green is free.

Right now the hottest swing on the PGA Tour is that of Anthony Kim.

You can watch his swing through a link on our web site on our video tips page. Just to prove how great this swing is Anthony is on the cover of both Golf Digest and Golf Magi zine for the month of December 2008. You can see a break down of his swing and read some of his insight on his swing in both of those issues. What Par breakers likes the most about Anthony's swing is that we have been teaching the same swing for years. Compact and core driven. You will see more players in the future with the same swing. It takes most of the mishits out of the shot and when you do miss it is only a few paces into the ruff. Golf The Proper Grip

How important is the grip to the golf swing?

First we have to look at it's purpose. The grip is our only connection to the golf club. So it is very important that we get it right. All of our feel for the shot is translated into our grip and without the proper grip tension we can not allow this feedback to happen. First and foremost we have to have the club in our fingers as shown in the (photo above left).

If you look at the right hand in the photo you see that the grip is just touching the part where the fingers meet the palm or main part of the hand. The club should never go below this part of the hand and into the palm. If it does it will restrict the rotation of the wrist and the role it plays in creating club head speed. As for grip tension a good way to find it is to squeeze the grip firmly then relax your grip. Once your grip is relaxed that should be just right in the feeling of how hard you should hold the club. Your forearms should be relaxed also to keep tension free. This is most important again in being able to generate club head speed. The last important factor is the trigger finger. The index finger of the right hand should be seprated from the middle finger. This will help keep your hands ahead of the club at impact. Therefore hitting the ball then taking a divot.
