Well we are off to the races, or rather the dreaded 2 week wait :( We did our first insem on Saturday but because of this strange shipping/timing issue we were a day early. Hopefully next month ovulation won't happen on a Sunday or Monday. We didn't think the timing would be such a pain as we were used to just calling up and saying we're ready then bodda bing bodda boom we'd meet in a parking lot for the "hand off" a couple times a month. I was always afraid a police officer would see us meeting up in the parking lot and him handing us a little something something through open windows and think it was a drug deal. I can see it now.

Officer: Ma'am can you tell me what was handed to you from the other car
Me: ahhh it's not what you think Sir
Officer: Ma'am you'll need to hand it over
Me: ahhhh it's not what you think and ahhh it's not easily accessible but.... here you go
Officer: oh Jesus Mary and Joseph I'm taking you to jail
Me: Ok but can you give me a few minutes to knock up my wife :D

Since we're pretty sure our timing was off and this being our first go at it we're pretty sure we missed out this month but it was a good trial run with getting the shipment here.

Guess what??? My wife, yep you read that right, she is my WIFE!!! who swore last year that she never wanted to be pregnant again, well on our 9 year anniversary last month she asked me if we could please try to have another baby. So here we go again. We lost everything we had for fertility in the fire so we are starting fresh. We are planning on using the same known donor as Emma and Ali and shipping the sample overnight using an amazing kit from baby dust delivery so our timing has to be perfect. I'm hoping it only takes us a couple months (Ok, I'm hoping it's only 1 month!) but we've decided to try for a year and if it doesn't happen within the year then we're blessed with the 5 we have. If it does happen quickly we've discussed having another a year after. Ash thinks 4 would be perfect. We're also trying to decide if we want to go ahead and start with clomid right away or some other fertility meds. I guess if it doesn't happen within the first couple months we'll re-evaluate our needs for them. Any who that is it in a nutshell, let the fun begin!!!

Yes, I realize she's too old for a paci/binkie but this was a week after the fire so cut her some slack. She was traumatized and still has her moments of panic. We're working on the Binky Fairy coming to take it and send it to a new baby that needs it. We've got it contained to only when we're going to sleep for now so it's a vast improvement and her dentist said it wasn't doing any harm yet. (yes, I'm justifying my inability to take something from her that she loves so very very much)

Our little man, Alos Vaughn aka Ali V! It is almost comical how opposite he is from Emma. She is quiet and reserved, Ali is loud and outgoing. Emma is petite and tiny, Ali is big and husky with feet that will bypass Emma's size within a year, Emma is very picky about anything she eats and well Ali will eat anything without the least bit of hesitation. He has brought so much joy to our family, he's happy and silly and Emma adores him, she'll sit next to him and just hold his hand. It's the sweetest thing ever.

What an amazing day for the LGBT community!!

Yes, I'm back... I think anyways

Life around here has been pretty crazy for the last year. I'll give a quick breakdown

Ashley gave birth to our amazing son, Alos Vaughn (we call him Ali) on October 5th, he is perfect, amazing, and has seriously completed our family.

Our beautiful little Emma celebrated her 3rd birthday in November. She gets cuter by the day and she adores her little brother.

We had a devastating home fire the beginning of December, we lost everything we owned but thankfully we were not home at the time or it could have been much worse.

While trying to figure out what we were going to do, we decided it was a push in the direction that we've been wanting for quite a while. Ash got serious about finding a new job and was offered a position in Northern Washington so we moved to our little slice of paradise in March 2013.

We live about 90 minutes North of Seattle on Whidbey Island and it's amazing. It's taken some getting used to, you know living in paradise and all! We live on the very Northern tip of the island by Deception Pass Bridge and although it is becoming over run with tourists this time of year it is BEAUTIFUL!!

Thank you all so much for the kind words, I appreciate every comment. Ash and I have actually been doing much better. We are working through our issues and our relationship has been better in the past couple weeks than it was in the past 2 years. In all of our busy everyday lives we forgot to love each other. Don't take that the wrong way, I love Ashley more than I thought possible (even now) but I, no, we forgot to show it. We said it all the time, but I think it was hollow and space filler, you know when she would leave for work and it was just a common thing, love you babe, I meant it but there was nothing behind it. Neither of us showed the other that we as a couple are very important. We became friends instead of lovers. Our sex life had been put on the back burner, it was one of those things that became OK, lets do this we had it down to a science and the quicker we could finish the better. I'm not saying that any of this made what happened OK because it's not in any way shape or form. I wish she could have told me that things were going South for her instead of seeking attention outside our relationship. She needed to feel wanted and I wasn't doing that for her. For that I take responsibility. I needed to feel something else, I'm not even sure what, maybe needed for something other than cleaning the house and taking care of our family. I feel it now though, I know I'm wanted, loved, cherished. I pray that one day the doubt and trust issues will be non-existent like they were before. We've been going to church as a family and it feels good. I'm trying to be kind and not too harsh to Ash when the doubts enter my mind which instead of daily is now weekly maybe and I haven't had a complete melt down for weeks. So things are on the right track.

Now some of you may say Girl, you're crazy! But we've actually decided that next month we will be getting married. I think we need to re-commit to each other and in a way that is,... I don't know the word, not permanent because nothing is permanent but in a way that is meaningful and serious for both of us. I have some friends in Washington that when I said I wasn't sure if we could pull it off in time said oh no girl, you are having a wedding and pulled things together like you would not believe! So on Wednesday June 13th on the beach at Cape Disappointment I will be saying my I do's with no hesitation in my heart, to my best friend, the love of my life!

Ok so hurry and get over your shock I'll need some positive input on wedding plans in a day!!!

It's been far too long since I've blogged last. So many things happened that I meant to blog about and just as soon as I was set to write, something else happened. Some great, some crappy, some Amazing.

Amazing first, we are still expecting an amazing baby! We had our 12 week appointment this week and baby is growing right on target, perfect size, little legs, little arms, there really are no words to describe seeing this tiny little being on an ultrasound, to see it's tiny little heart flutter, it's arms and legs move around. I'm already in love.

Some crappy, I spent a few days in the hospital with a stupid kidney stone that decided it was too good to leave my body so it held on for dear life. A quick surgery and a few days of recovery and all is almost well, another procedure and I'll be back at 100%.

Some great, for spring break my beautiful baby girl Maddie surprised us all and just showed up at my door with her girlfriend. I thought they were just going to hang out in Oregon but they headed here and spent an amazing week with us.

Some crappy, our beloved SUV is a piece of crap! Well, it's not really, it's an awesome vehicle, it's a Suzuki XL7 and really I love this thing, seating for seven (without being a mini van), heated seats (yes, my tushi needs heat on cold winter days) and it's so comfortable to travel in. Unfortunately Suzuki's are expensive to fix and the owners manual doesn't tell you things like only take it to a Suzuki dealership to change the oil because it requires special oil filters that jiffy lube type places don't carry but don't tell you that you need something different so after 3 years of changing our oil at the wrong place our engine was full of sludge and muck! Anyways a few thousand dollars later we're hoping our car is going to be back to normal just as soon as we get it back next week.

I guess it all evens out in the end. We take the bad with the good and are grateful for the good in our lives.

Anniversaries

This past Monday was our 7 year anniversary. We had one of the most amazing evenings. We got dressed up and went to a swanky little bistro for dinner. You know the kind, where you leave kinda hungry because the servings are tiny but oh so pretty. Although neither of us actually left hungry, it was soooo good. A little steak & lobster for me and Ash had steak also which means.... pregnancy makes her crave red meat! It's so strange, we very rarely eat red meat, I don't buy beef (unless it's short ribs and those are so small they just don't count). While Ash was preggo with the surro baby she craved hamburgers, which is really weird because she hates ground beef. Not just any burger though, it had to be a 5 guys burger, they are so thin they aren't quite ground beefish feeling in the mouth.

Soooo Ash has decided that she does not want to go to hospital with this birth. I don't remember if I ever went into detail on the surro baby birth but things kinda went haywire in the end and because he was so early she had to deliver in the surgical suite and our ex-dr wouldn't allow our doula to go with us so Ash ended up with an epidural while she was fully dilated because a bitchy nurse asked her if she wanted one during a contraction. We had planned on a home birth with Emma but Ash spiked a fever so we went to the hospital but still had an amazing unmedicated birth and most of the time was spent laboring in a tub. So that's the plan this time, we're interviewing home birth midwives, we're using our amazing doula that has been with us since Emma, and we have another hospital certified midwife set up that has actually said she would entertain the idea of a home birth with us if Ash stays low risk. So keep your fingers crossed for us.

Also, many people say it's a boy but I'm thinking girl. I don't know why, I just have a feeling and I've been right the last few times so........

Oh ya, and we told our families! We knew we didn't have long before someone put it all together. Ash can't be around food much right now and that usually only happens when she's preggo. So we went to my parents house and had Emma wearing a shirt that says "big sister" on it and it took a bit for my parents to understand but they finally got it. Ashley's mom on the other hand was amazing! She wanted to skype for a few minutes so we put Emma up in front of the camera wearing her shirt and Katie could have gone through the roof, it was so cute! She is so excited and Ashleys little sister is also expecting her 1st baby exactly 1 month before us. It's so exciting!!!

First of all, I have to say congratulations to Tonya over at www.babydreams2011.blogspot.com on her BFP!!! I'm soo very happy for her and her amazing SIL who is her surrogate. Tonya and I get to induce lactation together so at least I'll have someone to commiserate with.

Yes, I get to induce lactation which means we had a great Dr appointment today. Our midwife said baby bean is right on track and the heart beat was perfect. Our estimated due date is Oct. 25th. We're so excited, it's all really so real now. Until I saw that heart beat I kinda hadn't fully wrapped my head around it. Now I'm like damn I only have 32 weeks to prepare. So little time, so much to do...

First we need to tell our families. I've decided on something I saw on pinterest and I've modified it to our situation. I'm taking a picture of Emma holding todays US picture wearing her Big Sister shirt. To make it even funner I've blown out a few eggs and I'm going to paint them all cute and put a little tag saying open me on them. I'm going to photocopy the picture and roll it up all tiny and put it into the blown out egg. Then I'll carefully package up the egg in a cute hand made box full of tissue paper and send one to Ash's mom and deliver the other to my mom. I think it will be fun, I'm hoping we can skype with Ashley's mom while she opens it. I think she may have a suspicion though, we were skyping a week or so ago and my grand baby spilled the beans but we were able to say she just knew that we were trying. I know bad daughter in law, I didn't want to lie to her but we didn't want family to know until we had confirmation of heartbeat so I consider it just a omission of truth instead of a lie.

Any ways, I would upload a pic of the cashew US but all of you know what that looks like so I'll spare you all for now but know that I will be uploading cute ones just as soon as it no longer looks like a cashew and starts looking like a baby. Who wants to venture a guess as to the sex of this one???

Still here

We're still here, we're still preggy but that ticker up there is all jacked up! We had a Dr appt this past week and from the actual conception dates and the ultrasound we were about a week to early to actually see a heart beat but we kinda knew that we'd be too early. We have another appointment set up for 2 weeks to make sure all is well in baby land. On a somewhat positive note, this is definitely a healthy pregnancy because guess who is already getting hit with waves and waves of......... you guessed it f'n morning sickness! Really, do you think we could catch a break here! I mean could we just have 1 pregnancy where Ash allows me to cook in the house??? Is that too much to ask for Universe? It's really not to the medication point yet but it's getting there but to me that just sings out that all is well!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes, we appreciate it so very much. It's kinda funny because you all know, the universe knows but we've only told very few IRL people. My other kids know, a couple close friends but not our families. We've been waiting until we're a little further along. We're trying to figure out a super cute way to tell them all.

We took Emma and Marley to see The Lorax today and holy crap if you haven't seen it already GO SEE IT!! I don't even care if you have kids old enough or young enough to see it, it is that cute.

Starting over

It's all becoming so real. We're having another baby, holy shit, we're having another baby! I'm going to be umm well you guys don't need to know but it's over 40. My daughter is having a baby too. I'm having a baby (well, Ash is doing the actual birthing and growing part) at the same time as my daughter. Which means come next year when everyone goes back to work I will be taking care of 2 new babies, a 3 year old Emma, and my 6 year old grand daughter. Holy shit, I'm going back to work! I kid, I kid I'm looking forward to it. It'll be a mad house but I'm up for it.

On another note, I saw my family doctor today and we are giving me 3 months to make some health changes bring down my blood pressure, cholesterol, have a clear mammogram you know all that over 40 stuff so that I can begin the protocol to induce lactation so Ash and I can both breast feed the new baby like we did with Emma. I really didn't think she would be open to the idea because of my high blood pressure and family history of breast cancer but she agreed to do some research on her own on the process that I used with Emma so hopefully she'll be on board otherwise I'll do it anyways without her guidance as I'm really not willing to let much stand in the way.

So after much debate Ashley finally made an appointment to see our family doctor to see if indeed she really was pregnant. She was sure that she was, me, I needed some convincing. Really it took us 3 years with Emma, I couldn't believe we could/would get pregnant so quickly and all the tests that we took were weak weak weak if best. So on the Dr we went who quickly did a urine test and said well, congratulations are in order! The test there was also quite light so she ran a beta and it was a 46, low overall but for 15 days post insem it's perfect for us (Surro baby was only a 33 at 9 dp5dt) So, it's real, we're going to have another baby!

Gag order is partially lifted

Ok so this is partially good news partially who knows for real news.

This morning my amazing Ash tinkled on another stick, on that stick was the slightest and I do mean slightest 2nd pink line. Sunday will be 2 weeks since the first insem so we still could be just a few days early ya know! All in all Ashley's period is approx 4 days late TMI here (she ovulates really late so it's really only a little more than a week after insem that she should start her period) so Ash says she is 100% sure that she is pregnant, she feels it, her body is telling her she is. Me, I need to see that bright ass second line. I need it to pop up and slap my eyes out. We bought 3 more tests today. None of them mamby pamby pink tests that don't show up very well, we bought the blue dye kind. I don't know if it's a fact but every surro says you need the blue ones to see a positive early. So that's where we're at on the baby front.

Next front......... With everything that has happened in Washington recently regarding same sex marriage and all..... If it is all set and ready Ash and I will get married in Washington in June. We are going to Oregon for my daughters graduation and we had planned on spending 10 days in the area, checking out Seattle and Thor's well and everything in between. So now.... I'm trying to pull together a quick beach wedding (pending Washington getting it together by then) in a matter of months. Hopefully I can pull it off from 800 miles away.

Gag Orders

So..... I know, I know who starts a post with So..... I do it's annoying I'm sorry it's just how I work. And this is just a bunch of rambling, you've been warned.

I can't stand waiting! We are 4 DPO and I'm watching Ash like a hawk. I want this to be as quick and easy as the IVF was but I know it's highly unlikely and we're probably going to be doing this crap for months. Not that it's such a horrible thing, but really the less times i need to don my gas mask and gloves so as not to vomit the better.

What if Ash is offered a job and has to be there in a month? Do we just give up? Do we try to insem long distance style? We tried that once before and it sucked! Driving 10 hours to be in the same city as our donor at the drop of a hat was really no fun. Now we would be 14 hours away and have a 2 year old traveling along with us and Ash at a new job with no time off. Thanks but no!

So, anyone have suggestions on places that are "friendly" in the Portland area? We're hoping that Ash lands a job somewhere close to Portland so we're hoping to find an area within an hour drive any direction. We have looked at troutville (i think that's what is was called), scappoose, (because well, it sounds like pooseee and yes, we thought it was funny, don't judge us) and Beaverton all near Portland. Seriously, who has this many lezzie sounding towns within a 30 mile radius?

It's that time again

Yes, once again it's that time of the month! Ash hit high fertility yesterday and surged today so we insemed yesterday and today. Lets hope this month is it. Now on to the horrendous two week wait.

It's been a pretty busy week or so around here. Emma has been sick and we're trying to potty train her, actually she did it herself one day so it's been pretty easy.

On to other news, we are thinking about moving. Picking up and moving to Oregon or Washington. My ex husband lives there with my 18 year old daughter and my son and his wife are moving there within a couple of weeks. Even more than that, Ash really wants to change jobs and change scenery. I think it will be hard but I'm always up for an adventure. The only hard thing for me is my oldest daughter and my grand daughter are here, only a block away and my daughter is expecting. I'm hoping that she will follow us up there. I don't want to be away from them but I have to think about the big picture not just my picture. We live in a pretty conservative neighborhood, hell, what am I saying we live in Utah it's more than conservative. We are the token gays in the community. One day if we stay here Emma will go to school at the school I went to, she will more than likely never be invited to play at any ones house, or get invited to birthday parties and very few parents will allow their children to come to our house. It's just the way it is here, we want Emma (and hopefully a new baby) to grow up where having 2 parents of the same sex isn't such an oddity. It doesn't hurt that I have a love affair with the ocean. There is something about it that soothes my soul. The sound of the waves crashing, the smell (no, not that rotten fish smell), the sand on my toes, it's so peaceful. So, there it is, I think we're moving.

Sad Sad Day

Today heaven took an angel home. My grandpa passed away today. He is an amazing man, I can't say was because he is an amazing man. He lived a very long life, he would have turned 99 next month and he never let a moment pass him by. He drove up until last year, he water skied until he was well in his 60's. He danced at the senior center every chance he got and was always trying to find me a "new grandma". He outlived 3 wives and once he decided he was a burden to his 4th, he left her to come home and spend the rest of his days with him family. He had things he wanted to do before he went, he wanted to go back to Yellowstone, he wanted to fly fish on the wind river, and my uncle and his wife made sure he was able to do all of these things. My grandpa was a really neat man, he and his 2nd wife (the only grandma I remember) used to pack up the motorhome with used clothing and bikes, toys and housewares and drive deep into Mexico and donate them to an orphanage or whoever needed them. One day he and Gramma woke up and had a craving for Lobster so the next day they were on the way to Maine. One of my favorite memories of him is Chiclets gum, he always had a shirt pocket full of Chiclets for us kids. He was kind and gentle and a great explorer. He taught me so much in my life. He will be missed very much but I'm so glad he is in a place where he can no longer feel the effects of old age on his body. I'm sure he's in heaven with all his friends and family sitting back enjoying a cold one and talking about fishing and camping.

Ash sometimes rolls her eyes at me when I start to talking about my "friends" I'll say things like oh my gosh, you know Mike and Tony (just an example) they have the cutest pics of Zoey up today and she's like ummm who and who and I have you explain you know the cute guys in WA (at least in my world that's where ya'll live) same goes with many many of you. I couldn't decide what to title this post, FU aunt flo was tempting but.....

We kinda knew that we blew our timing. We also kinda know we haven't waited long enough in between giving birth to surro babe and trying to get prego again. Although we are going to just keep trying. Get back in the grove of watching Ashley's body and relearning it's signals to say "hey there good looking, it's time". There's a lot of things we'll work on, getting Ash back on a vitamin and supplement schedule, maybe shedding a few pounds, maybe rethink insem strategy. What I'm really hoping for is that our February insem does the trick again, I think Feb is just our month!

I know I totally missed posting much about Christmas, let me just say that my amazing Ashley knows me so very well. I've been crushing on a Coach purse, not just one, there are a few that I was really in like with and Ash found one that I have never seen that I am soooo in love with! Also while we were in California I fell in love with another bag a Vera Bradley and she surprised me with it also. I am so lucky to have such an amazing partner. I got her tools, yes, boring, typical, dyke gift but she really wants to learn wood working and well, you can't without tools.

Timing is everything!

And I'm afraid our timing was way off with this insemination. Any of you that have done insem or watched for ovulation know there are signs, eggy signs and none of those eggy signs were really present during this insem so in my own head I'm calling this one our dry run. I did forget how unsexy the whole thing is.

It goes something like this.... Me- damn where's the flashlight, Ash - ahhhhh I dunno (don't judge me, you try finding the cervix with a needle less syringe) Me- damn it, some got on my sheets, this syringe a piece if crap Ash - Ummmm you ready Me - insert heave sound here because by now the "smell" has accosted my nostrils (you know that man smell) and I have a very weak stomach which makes Ash laugh uncontrollable which makes it hard for me to "do my bidness" so ok hurry and calm down stop laughing at me, stop puking in your mouth, then stop laughing so i can put this stuff in it's place.... blah blah blah badda bing badda boom and hopefully a little baby making is happening.

So in my head I seriously am already in such a it's not gonna work this time mode and that is never me. I've always been the one saying this is it baby, this is the winning ticket, this baby is on it's way for the ride in the wonkatania! Ash is always negative Nellie (I love you baby, you know this about yourself don't think I'm being mean k) it's her way of protecting her heart. It's the sweetest thing ever. If shes convinced it's not happening this time she can't get hurt. Well this time she's like, honey I'm a little crampy, but not like period crampy (the other day) and today she's like HONEY, i peed today and there was some spotting so i like oh baby I'm so sorry you must be starting and she goes, NO I think it's implantation bleeding. I was like who are you and where is my f'n wife. Ok, only in my head because I would never want to hurt her feelings. She's the best wife ever.

So who knows could go either way.

This was that same evening, New Years Eve. My Daughters boy friend brought moustaches to the party which we all had a ball with.

Oh and for her birthday on top of possible knocking her up, I got her a tattoo she really really wanted. It says Love is Enough in my handwriting if my handwriting was beautiful but lets go with it's mine ok, don't judge me. And so you don't have a use your imagination about where this is on her body it's actually the inside of her forearm.

Holy crap it finally happened! On the road to the big city to pick up the "stuff". Nothing like a little ovulation to bring the party preparations to a halt, who needs perfectly cooked prime rib anyways. Here's to hoping the new year brings us luck on our first try and Ashs birthday (which is today).

Oh Dear God, could we please ovulate sometime soon! We are sitting at day 21 and have still not ovulated. We use the ClearBlue Easy Fertility Monitor and it showed us with Emma that Ash ovulated very late in her cycle (around now) but we always panic and think that we've missed it. I think it's why it took us so long to have Emma, we always thought she ovulated around day 18 but obviously not. So the next day or two hopefully will be "the" day.

I realized I haven't posted any pictures from our California get away. I'm missing California about now, the sound of the ocean, the smell (no, not the rotting fish and pollution smell, that clean ocean beachie smell) the freeness that we felt while we were there, and the warmth!
