The dog days of summer are upon us and nothing makes for a better Sunday summers evening sharing scary stories, and none is scarier than "A deadly Haunting!" Shawn Donley and Marianne Donley of Dark Shadow Ghost Tours and Paranormal Activity Network Investigation Center Database (PANICd.com) are with us during the first half hour of the show for another episode of "The Haunted Spotlight." Then at 8:30 pm, Eric and Marie welcome Haunted Survivor Deborah Moffitt as she share's her families terrifying story "A Deadly Haunting." Deborah Moffitt has kept a secret for 25 years. This secret has haunted her in a figurative and literal sense. Only now is she ready to reveal her story to the world. In 1984, a secret ritual was performed in Rancho Cucamonga, California that would usher in years of torment for the Moffitts. What followed can only be described as a nightmare from which the family perceived there may be no escape. And entity who called himself “prince” invaded the family property, creating a whirlwind of destruction and terror, focusing its primary wrath on the family’s matriarch. The entity frightened a priest and confounded countless paranormal investigators, including the infamous demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. It was not until 1991 that the entity finally seemed to depart the Moffitt family’s property. But this story does not have a particularly happy ending wherein a demonic entity is cast out once and for all. The entity makes a decidedly more sinister exit. This is a story that may seem more than can be believed, but I do believe Deborah and her family experienced something awful in their home, including writing on the bathroom mirror, an entity that demanded communication, and even the rare paranormal phenomenon of apportation. (An apport is the paranormal transference of an article from one place to another, or an appearance of an article from an unknown source). Serial Killer month continues as Eric and Marie welcome Dr. Scott Bonn to the program this week discussing his research of notorious serial killers and his book "Why we love Serial Killers." Dr. Scott Bonn (“Doc Bonn”) is Professor of Criminology, media expert and analyst, public speaker and author. He is an expert on criminal behavior and the motivations of criminals. He offers insights into various types of crime, including white-collar, state crime, bullying, domestic violence, sexual assault and serial homicide. His expert commentary frequently appears in the popular news media. Doc Bonn is the author of “Mass Deception: Moral Panic and the U.S. War on Iraq,” a critically acclaimed book on war crime and terrorism from Rutgers University Press (2010). His latest book is on the public's fascination with serial killers in which he offers insights into the minds of infamous predators and explains how and why serial killers are often transformed into ghoulish popular culture celebrities by the media. Titled "Why We Love Serial Killers" the book is published by Skyhorse Press and released in October, 2014. Professor Bonn is not your average academic. He combines the knowledge and skills of an academic scholar with more than twenty years of senior-level corporate experience in advertising and news and entertainment media. As such, he has unique insights into the public’s attitudes and beliefs, how they are shaped, and the agenda-setting powers of political leaders and the news media. Doc Bonn has developed a unique, integrated, and interdisciplinary theory called “critical communication” to explain how state officials and the news media actually shape public opinion on complex issues such as homicide, capital punishment, drugs, abortion and terrorism. We start off the month by welcoming back Author Jeff Mudgett, great great grandson to America's first serial killer H.H. Holmes. With years of experience under his belt and a wealth of knowledge, our mystery guest has appeared on television, film, countless books, newspaper and magazine articles. He is well known and well respected by not only his peers but by anyone he has helped or worked with over the past four decades. Eric and Marie don the Safari helmuts, the hiking boots and gather our passports as we go exploring this week with our guest John Kirk III of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club. The author of the award-winning book In the Domain of the Lake Monsters, John Kirk is one of the world’s leading cryptozoological investigators. As president of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club (BCSCC), John is part of a team of investigators that have searched for cryptids such as Ogopogo, Sasquatch, Cadborosaurus, black alligators, unknown cameloids, lacustrean cryptids and giant salamanders in the province of British Columbia. The club is scientifically based with a large portion consisting of open-minded academics who feel the existence of new species of animals lying undiscovered is not such a farfetched idea. John is also Editor and Publisher of the BCSCC Quarterly well-known for its balanced approached to the enigma of mystery animals and also author of the club website. John has ventured far afield in his quest for evidence for the mystery animals of the world in many areas of the world including Scotland, the Republic of Cameroon and the Republic of the Congo. In 2001 and one John was part of the Cryptosafari team which investigated reports of an animal called Mokele Mbembe which bears an uncanny resemblance to a sauropod dinosaur. While on this expedition the Cryptosafari team unearthed the first reports of a manlike creature standing over six feet tall, with three toes and fingers which in habits the Cameroon-Congo border region known to locals as the Dodu. Another mystery animal, the Ngoubou, was also described and this animal has features consistent with those a styracosaurus, part of the family of ceratopsians said to have been extinguished from the planet millions of years ago. In addition to his cryptozoological research, John is a keen student of police methodologies and investigation techniques which he feels are very useful in the field of cryptozoological research. Analyzing and then organizing clues and evidentiary materials is an important part of the cryptozoological method and John is keen to share this with other researchers in this field. John has also extensively studied the musculature of the creature in the Patterson film and in 1999 was the first to report specifically on the substantial musculature differences between the creature and a human being which were detailed in the BCSCC Quarterly. It is John’s hope that the day will come when cryptozoological researchers will be at the forefront of using technologies and equipment that are of the cutting edge variety in their search for cryptids. Josh joins me in welcoming our good friend Cliff Barackman back to BTE Radio for another rousing discussion on our favorite Cryptid, Bigfoot. We'll be talking with Cliff about his 25 year career as a Sasquatch researcher, the show Finding Bigfoot and we'll find out from Cliff what he's been up to. This Sunday night Cliff Barackman returns to BTE Radio. About Cliff Cliff as a PersonCliff was born and raised in Long Beach, California. Throughout his youth, his interests were drawn towards both the physical and biological sciences, as well as to music. These interests later brought him to dabble in a wide variety of sciences in college before later deciding to pursue his degree in Jazz Guitar. Cliff can be heard performing guitar around the Portland area, when he’s not busy in the field. Cliff’s interest in the sciences drove him to a teaching career where he could share his love and appreciation of the natural world with young people, and particpate in the occasional sing along. While Cliff was navigating his life, his growing interest in the bigfoot phenomena drove him to travel to other parts of the country to look into the mystery. By extensively travelling the West Coast, he found himself unsatisfied with living in Southern California and wanting to live closer to bigfoot habitat. After living in various parts of California and Washington State, he eventually settled in Portland, OR where he lives today. Cliff has been a dedicated sasquatch field researcher for the past two decades. Known throughout the Sasquatch scientific community for his extended expeditions, he has been known to spend over 200 days a year in the field. Over the years he has managed to gather data supporting the hypothesis that sasquatches are an undiscovered species of great ape that walks bipedally and lives in North America. Though finding and documenting data is a goal of Cliff’s research, it is not the primary goal. The process of bigfooting is fun! Cliff has appeared in various media outlets over the years in regards to his bigfoot experience. He has written extensively on the subject with his work being featured not only on his own blog, but on other websites as well. He has also been featured in student reports, newspaper articles, video documentaries, and more. In 2007, Cliff was contacted to be on the History Channel’s “Monsterquest.” The episode, entitled “Legend of the Hairy Beast,” featured Cliff and fellow bigfoot researcher, James “Bobo” Fay investigating bigfoot sighting reports on the Klamath River in Northern California. Being the first whites to ever be invited to do bigfoot research on the Yurok Indian Reservation, Cliff and Bobo interviewed Native American elders about their experiences with sasquatches. They hired Indian river guides, and made base camp in a cabin with no access other than by river. They also utilized advanced night vision technology to try to film sasquatches at night from a river jet boat. Being well-respected in the bigfoot community and beyond, Cliff is often called upon for comments about bigfoot evidence and research. He was the featured expert in news items broadcast to the Portland, OR and Seattle, WA media markets in regards to the infamous Georgia Bigfoot Hoax of 2008 where he clearly stated that it was a falsification. He has appeared on many internet radio shows, and was also a featured guest on “Coast to Coast with George Noory.” In Spring, 2010, Cliff was asked to accompany Bob Saget on a bigfoot expedition in Northern Washington State. Bob was filming an episode of his A&E series, Strange Days with Bob Saget, where he would partake in an eccentric subculture’s way of life for a weekend. Bob and Cliff were filmed discussing the various types of recorded sasquatch vocalizations on record, and Bob walked away very impressed with the evidence. As a parting gift, Cliff gave Bob a copy of the 1982 Grays Harbor, WA footprint cast. Cliff is currently being featured in Animal Planet’s new series, Finding Bigfoot. Once again teaming up with colleagues James “Bobo” Fay, Matt Moneymaker, and Ranae Holland, Cliff is traveling the country investigating bigfoot evidence. His expert opinion, level-headed approach, and analytical mind is essential to the team. When numbers need to be extracted for the sake of data analysis, or when a footprint needs to be permanently recorded, he is there to offer his unique skills. Cliff augments the credibility of Finding Bigfoot with his passion for data collection, and his ability to explain complex ideas in simple fashions. Cliff holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University, Long Beach. Cliff was a jazz guitar student of Bay Area guitarist, Dave Schroeder, and later went on to take lessons from jazz great, Ron Eschete, and specialized in the seven-stringed jazz guitar. In this episode aired live on Sunday night February 1 we kick of Cryptid month here at BTE Radio. Our next contestant for the co-host contest is Walt Wadsworth. Walt and Eric welcome Documentary Film Director Seth Breedlove and Producers Jesse Morgan and Allen Magargel of Fathom Frontiers as we will be talking about the new film project called Small Town Monsters and discuss the first installment the Minerva Monster. In August of 1978 a small town in eastern Ohio was thrust into the spotlight when a local family sighted a “monster” in the woods behind their home. Over subsequent evenings they were repeatedly visited by the creature culminating in a late-night encounter that ended in local police being called in. The story blasted onto the front pages of newspapers across the state and into the consciousness of a nation. For weeks police, news crews, and scores of hunters descended on the town of Minerva with one common goal; to find the beast. The documentary film is directed by Seth Breedlove, and produced by Jesse Morgan and Alan Megargle. Minerva Monster is the first in a series of documentaries called Small Town Monsters. Setting aside all the drama, and preamble of previous “monster” documentaries, Minerva Monster will tell the story through witness interviews; the real story, in the words of those who lived it. The film will see an official release on May 16th at the Ohio Bigfoot Conference and be available for purchase on or around this same date. Local screenings will follow. A Facebook page has already launched (facebook.com/minervamonster) with more social media outlets to follow. A trailer is scheduled to drop around the end of January. About our guests: Seth Breedlove is a freelance investigative journalist and podcast host. He has contributed content to numerous websites on a variety of topics. He served as a columnist for the Massillon Independent, helming a weekly column titled "Slice of Life" that ran on the front page of the paper. In addition to his column he has covered news stories and daily assingnments for the Medina Gazette. He co-hosts a pop culture podcast called Ancillary Characters with his friends Allen and Paul. A new media enthusiast, Seth began podcasting in the mid-00's and continues to test the boundaries of the medium each week. In 2014 he started SasWhat: a Podcast About Bigfoot with co-host Mark Matzke where each week they discuss the subject as a whole and interview various personalities from the field. Seth has also researched and examined historical Bigfoot reports from across the country, compiling an extensive database of newspaper articles dating back to the early 1800's. He maintained a bi-weekly column for the Ohio Bigfoot Conference which examined possible Bigfoot historical newspaper reports from around the state of Ohio. In 2013 Seth began researching the Minerva Monster case. After compiling an expansive library of information relating to the case he pitched the idea of making a film based on the flap to Alan Megargle and Jesse Morgan. Together they've spent the last year working on the film. Jesse Morgan began taking researching Bigfoot seriously in the summer of 2009. Growing up with a family that primitive camped nearly every summer has given Jesse a lifetime of experience in the field. This comfort level allows Jesse to see and hear things others may miss while in the field. Jesse has a diverse background that includes strategic planning, marketing and military. Jesse’s background gives him a critical eye and the drive to get the answers needed to solve this mystery. Jesse would like nothing more than to bring conclusive evidence to the world that proves the existence of Bigfoot. Alan Megargle began in earnest researching the Bigfoot phenomenon during the summer of 2009. Being in the field has been the number one priority for Alan, and this effort has resulted in a number of “close calls” including recordings of possible wood knocks and vocalizations. Despite having a successful career as an engineer, Alan’s true passion is a calling to research the unknown. Since childhood he has always found time to get in the field, whether lying on his parents roof watching the heavens or digging his heels into another muddy uphill hike, Alan finds excitement in knowing he could share one of the greatest scientific discoveries with the world. Eric and Marie welcome Former Allegheny County Commissioner, Politician and Author Bob Cranmer. About Bob Bob Cranmer has been involved with government since 1990 as an elected official or as a government relations specialist. He represents a spectrum of different of clients, which include governmental entities such as: Allegheny County Housing Authority, and the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny and Fayette Counties, Non-profits such as: Family Links, the Pittsburgh Opera, Ohio Valley General Hospital, and the River City Brass Band. Corporations which have included: Ammann & Whitney Engineering, L. Robert Kimball & Associates, Mistick Construction, and Bombardier Transportation. Bob’s area of expertise and “bi-partisan” relationship management includes local city and county governments, as well as the entire state government in Harrisburg. Bob is a native of Pittsburgh, growing up in the borough of Brentwood where he still resides with his wife Lesa. He graduated from Brentwood High School in 1974 and Duquesne University in 1978, upon which he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army. Bob went on to serve nine years in the active army, several of which as a Company Commander in the 101st Airborne Division. He also served in the United States Army Reserve with the rank of Major during the Persian Gulf War commanding a Military Intelligence unit. Bob’s employment has included positions with AT&T Bell Laboratories, AT&T Corporate Marketing, and Communications Technologies Group, LTD. Kimball & Associates, and most recently the Harrisburg lobbying firm of Pugliese Associates, managing the Pittsburgh office. In politics, Bob was elected to Brentwood Council in 1991 where he initiated an economic development corporation, which generated over 30 million dollars of new development. It now serves several municipalities and is a model for other communities. In 1995 he was elected Allegheny County Commissioner where he served as chairman of the board. As a Commissioner Bob ushered in sweeping changes to county government, reducing county taxes in excess of 50 million dollars per year, reducing county personnel by 18%, reorganizing county government from forty-one departments to six, creating the position of County Manager, a county 911 system, and forming a city/county economic development organization which generated several billion dollars worth of new projects and related economic development. He led the effort to establish home rule in Allegheny County, which created the position of County Executive and County Council. His other notable accomplishments include the construction of PNC Park, Heinz Field, and the new David L. Lawrence Convention Center. He was also a driving force behind the creation of the Allegheny County Airport Authority to manage the Pittsburgh International Airport. In 1988 Bob bought what he thought would be his dream home in the Pittsburgh suburb where he was raised. In his book the Demon of Brownsville Rd, Bob recounts the harrowing details of the evil presence that tormented his family and the epic spiritual war he fought to save everything he held dear. Strange activity began just a few short weeks after the family moved in. Cranmer said the strange but seemingly harmless activity continued for a number of years before turning dark and violent. At the advice of his mother and to allay his own creepy feelings about the house, Cranmer had a Roman Catholic priest perform a ritual blessing on the place. During the blessing his oldest son stood in the doorway in the form of an "X" and blocked the priest from entering his bedroom, he revealed. The entity's activity slowly became more sinister and interactive. Cranmer remembered being harassed on a daily basis with physical attacks. Eventually the activity was more than the family could take and the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese became involved which resulted in almost daily mass being held in the home along with multiple exorcisms. This week, live on BTE Radio. About Andrea: Andrea Perron. is the eldest daughter of Roger & Carolyn Perron. She has four sisters: Nancy, Christine, Cynthia and April. the only one of five siblings to be born in Rhode Island. I was just two months old when my parents bought our first home in Willimantic, Connecticut, where all my sisters came into the world. A burgeoning family required more space so we bought a larger home in Cumberland, R.I. when I was six. Living in a suburb of Providence proved disquieting. After six years my mother decided her girls required a place in the country in which to grow and thrive. In June of 1970 she found a glorious farm, then she and my father moved mountains to buy what was known as the old Arnold Estate; two-hundred acres of land with a big barn and a farmhouse; plenty of space to spread out and explore Nature. It was the perfect place to raise a family, according to the owner, though he failed to disclose a crucial element of the experience he endured as an occupant. The day we moved in, he told my father: “…leave the lights on at night.” A rather cryptic message. Thus began an incredible odyssey; a supernatural excursion through dimensions of time and space as the history of its characters from the ages began to reveal themselves to seven mortals who could not conceive of and never anticipated such events transpiring in our lives. For almost a decade our family lived among the dead. There we came to understand that we are not alone and there is something beyond mortal existence. I graduated from high school in 1976 and attended Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Graduating in 1980 with an interdisciplinary degree in Philosophy and English, it was during my senior year when my mother announced the sale of the farm was pending. I was heart broken. In spite of the trials, it was “home” and I loved it. Returning to Rhode Island, we were there only a few weeks before relocating to Georgia; long enough to pack and say goodbye. It was over. Though we abandoned our place in the country, it never left us. Memory is powerful. I’ve spent my life since engaging in a variety of endeavors. Georgia did not suit me. After seven years I went home to R.I. Though I have always been a writer, I have likewise explored my own creative abilities. As a professional singer, songwriter, musician and actor, my time has been full of adventures and interesting characters. For more than twenty years I was a cast member with The Theatre Company of Rhode Island, performing on the stage of The Assembly Theater, the historic centerpiece of Harrisville. For the last ten years I lived in R.I. I was employed as a youth counselor at Harmony Hill School in Chepachet and lived in the village of Harmony, in a quaint cottage on Waterman Lake, also known as paradise on a pond. In 2007 I began writing the manuscript which has now evolved into the trilogy “House of Darkness House of Light” and relocated (again) to Georgia to be with my family while embarking on such a major project involving all of them as well. It has proved to be quite an excursion in its own right, spawning some nightmares while exhuming our memories of the dead. Often painful, it has been a healing process as well, as each revisited a past impacting our present, clearly mapping the future of a family. There was no escaping unscathed, though we thought we has successfully done so at the time. This is a story whose time has come. Many have spoken or written about fragments of the story for decades. Now is the time to tell the whole truth about what happened in a house alive with death as we lived an illuminating decade of life. It is a tale worth telling because it is true. Hamilton earned her master's degree in history from San Diego State University in 2013. Her work can be seen in the magazine The Citizens' Companion. Fascinated with the American Civil War and the life of Abraham Lincoln since as long as she could remember Hamilton pursued her love of history by working as a docent at the Whaley House Museum in Old Town San Diego. While working at the Whaley House, Hamilton became fascinated with the unknown world of the paranormal after having numerous personal experiences. After being admitted into San Diego State University’s graduate history department, Hamilton found a way to combine her love for history and the paranormal through her groundbreaking research into Abraham and Mary Lincoln’s interest in Spiritualism during the Civil War. In her free time, Hamilton is a Civil War living historian. This week Eric, Lon and Sean welcome Paranormal Investigator, and Author Brian Parsons to the program. Brian D. Parsons was born in Indiana in 1973 and moved to northeast Ohio before his first birthday. Growing up his parents told him that ghosts, monsters, and other strange things did not exist; they did this not to brainwash him, but to help him sleep at night. He grew up watching "In Search of" with Leonard Nimoy which began to open his mind to the what-ifs that exist in our world. In early 1996 he was attending college when a couple of friends asked him for help in learning how to write better research papers. He and another friend suggested writing about a subject they really liked and they would critique it. A few others did the same as well and when the group met and began to peer review the papers one drew more attention than the others on sports and dating; it was about UFOs. One of the guys in the group was a UFO nut who decided to write about UFO sightings. As the group began to talk about UFOs other subjects, such as urban legends and local folklore, came up. A few days later he was at work and brought up a particular local urban legend. He found it interesting how many different people heard the same distinct things about this location and the stories that went with it. Brian decided to investigate the location, he went to the local library and researched the property and those involved with it during the time of the story. During his research he stumbled upon Parapsychology and Psychical Research; terms he heard in Psychology class that meant nothing more than pseudoscience to his teacher. Investigating further he was interested to realize that there were many people investigating ghosts today and that despite finding enough evidence to prove the local urban legend wrong, he was inspired to investigate ghosts and related phenomena further. In the fall of 1996, he and a group of friends formed a paranormal investigation team after weeks of learning about phenomena through reading and other resources (the internet wasn't a big help back then!). They started out as many teams did back then by investigating cemeteries, abandoned buildings, and researched and investigated urban legends. While they had no official name they had spent plenty of time discussing it; one suggestion by Brian was in response to many of the groups with acronyms that existed was Ohio Paranormal Investigation Network (O.P.I.N.). The name was based on his dream of helping to network not only groups, but professionals in other areas of interest to help grow the field and help those in need. It was also in the fall of 1996 that they began getting client cases through word of mouth. During one case the homeowner, the father of a friend of one of the investigators, asked who was in charge and if the group had a name. Everyone began to look around the room and Brian began to notice everyone staring at him. He had become the official leader of the group; and his group name was adopted as well. In early 1997 the group split, while one continued to investigate cemeteries, buildings, and other structures, the other continued to help clients and carried the O.P.I.N. banner. The first group website was on the free Geocities website (site no longer exists) and was a one page advertisement for the group. During this time other members had their own O.P.I.N. websites using the original logo in an effort to gather client cases. In 2000, the group moved to Angelfire where it resided until 2007 when the decision was finally made to acquire a unique URL. In 2000, during some downtime in investigations, Brian decided to pursue a spot with the Mutual UFO Network as a Field Investigator. He worked briefly with the organization and still conducts his own investigations into related phenomena. Brian has worked with the Sasquatch Research Initiative (now defunct) and currently with the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society investigating Bigfoot and big cat sighting claims. Brian has authored four books on the subject of paranormal group operation, including his unique "E4" Method designed for client-centered cases. His fifth book, Handbook for the Amateur Cryptozoologist, digs into the world of hidden or unknown animals. He presents a balanced look at the history and mystery behind these creatures as well as methodologies into investigating them. He has worked with the ParaNexus Anomalous Research Association for several years and served as the Research Director, Treasurer, and sat on the Board of Directors until the corporation voted to dissolve in December of 2011. He remained a member and served as the Anomalous News Coordinator until 2014 when he was named Executive Director of ParaNexus in an effort to revitalize the organization. Brian also hosts the Paranormal News Insider segment of the Grand Dark Conspiracy podcast which airs Monday nights at 10 P.M. eastern on the Shark Radio Network. Brian has appeared on numerous internet radio shows, paranormal conferences and conventions, as well as his own events where he speaks on a variety of paranormal and anomalous subjects (see the contact/media page for details). He has a PhD from the Institute of Metaphysical Humanistic Science in Metaphysical Science and is currently working on his bachelor's degree in Environmental Science.
