As the 25th edition of the Sunday Times Rich List is released, there are some interesting trends, new entries and young millionaires to note this year. Unfortunately most of us will not appear in the list and will need to continue with our day jobs!

One young millionaire, who should be very proud of her success, is Adel. No stranger to number one hit records, Adel featured at the top of the Richest Young Musicians list with a reported £30 million fortune. Her album 21 is said to be responsible for a 50% increase in her fortune since 2012 and we imagine that online sales have contributed significantly to this figure.

The Rich List had a number of sub-lists which helped to highlight success in particular industries, but we were surprised that internet and e-commerce businesses were not highlighted in this way.

BBC News has previously collated a list of the top 26 richest internet entrepreneurs using information from Forbes ranking. The internet has created some of the youngest billionaires in the quickest timescales.

Top of the most recent list were the co-founders of Google – Larry Page at age 37 and a year younger 36 year old Sergey Brin. They were students studying for their PHD’s when starting work on Google, becoming paper billionaires within five years. The youngest person on the list and probably no surprise to us all is Facebook creator, Mark Zuckerberg.

The power of the internet really cannot be underestimated and businesses are realising every day the true potential of the online market.

Published figures from Realtime statistics show that worldwide there are 2,311,121,100 internet users, which is an incredible figure for any business to market to.

Businesses struggling to manage parcel, storage, postage and distribution are being offered a more effective solution through a new e-commerce Cloud Fulfilment Service recently launched by online parcel delivery company, Parcel Monkey.

Geared towards companies struggling to store and distribute a growing volume of products sold through their own websites or online marketplaces such as eBay or Amazon, Parcel Monkey’s new Cloud Fulfilment Service allows businesses to book their products into warehousing and distribution.

The new service also offers stock management expertise, order management systems, picking technology and an advanced global network of distribution partners used by some of the world’s biggest brands.

For those concerned about cost, there are pay-as-you-go user fees which are based on the volume of goods stored and distributed, providing a scalable, flexible solution to help manage costs alongside peaks and troughs in the sales cycle.

Parcel Monkey anticipates that its larger clients, which make up 80% of its current volumes will migrate to the fulfilment service, which is expected to handle approximately 100,000 parcels in the first year.

Groovycart, which provides hosted e-commerce online shops for individuals and small businesses has confirmed that it will be using the new fulfillment service and is encouraging other business and individuals that it works with to do the same – which is an incredible coup for the service.

Whilst set-up for many businesses is not an issue, growing popularity of sites and products can lead to the need to distribute items to a wide-spread or international audience, which can quickly become a time-consuming and costly process.

Professional warehousing and distribution is often a key step to enable further growth of online businesses.

Cloud Fulfilment offers a flexible, efficient and easy to manage solution which can be used by any level of business, but can prove particularly ideal for start-ups, as there is often a need to balance limited budgets and resources carefully, whilst still ensuring that customers get the very best service.

Success in m-commerce markets is beginning to set many businesses apart from its competitors.

The most recent business to be enjoying a massive boost in m-commerce is retailer, Asda; the company confirms that its shopping mums have embraced its new app technology.

Over the Christmas period, Asda confirmed that 25% of its online orders were made on either mobiles or tablets. This figure has since climbed to 30% and the retailer expects the figure to reach 50% by the end of the year – providing a significant edge on competitors.

Asda found that its app was a hit with customers, particularly mums, 50% of whom own smartphones.

So exactly what does the app do? It allows the shopper to build their basket over the week, meaning that many mums can fit in the shopping, whilst doing other activity and are no longer restricted to having to go into stores.

Asda launched the app 18 months ago and have had two million downloads to date. The retailer’s Click & Collect service is also available via mobile devices.

The popularity of the app demonstrates that customers are willing to purchase across multiple channels, if provided with the opportunity – with many attracted to the ease and convenience this brings to their lives.

Well, why not read some of our incredible Easter egg facts that we’ve put together for you to find out.

A whopping 90 million chocolate eggs are sold in the UK each year.

Each child in the UK receives an average 8.8 Easter eggs each year.

Sales at Easter time make up 10% of UK chocolate spending for the whole year.

The UK’s first chocolate egg was produced in 1873 by Fry’s of Bristol.

The world’s most popular egg-shaped chocolate is Cadbury’s Creme Egg. Workers at the Cadbury factory in Birmingham produce 1.5 million of these gooey treats every day!

For anyone who hasn’t got their eggs yet, here are a few online sites which we’d love to receive eggs from:

Hotel Chocolat – http://www.hotelchocolat.com/uk/shop/easter-eggs?gclid=CLv-2_q_k7YCFXDKtAodF3QAJg

Fortnum and Mason – http://www.fortnumandmason.com/p-7616-pink-marc-de-champagne-truffle-egg.aspx?source=ls&siteID=TnL5HPStwNw-vQZEq4V0EO3_S1VYb_wh4Q&affiliateid=10052

As an online business we are always very conscious to ensure that our customers interact with our site in a safe and secure way.

Many online sites, like ours, allow customers the option to set up their own accounts using passwords. This provides customers with additional features, like a history of purchases as well as easy access to offers and information.

With many banks and online payment methods also requesting passwords to accounts – it’s no wonder that remembering all our different passwords can become quite difficult.

Research by Microsoft in 2007 found that the average person used 6.5 passwords for 25 sites. We estimate that these figures have probably doubled now.

It is quite understandable that we sometimes choose to repeat our passwords as this allows us to remember what they are – however in terms of security we could be putting ourselves at risk, if our password were discovered.

A new wave of phones and technology suggests that the solution is to introduce other behavioural biometrics, which will allow us to be recognised individually.

Apple is planning to release a new iPhone that allows owners to identify themselves simply by pressing their finger against the handset. In the future this technology will also be used to access online banking accounts, email accounts or activate electronic payment cards.

Whilst this technology could make our lives a lot easier, as we have seen with voice and iris recognition, there can be drawbacks.

The Galaxy S4 which is activated by recognising a user’s eye had to be adapted to respond to blinking, as it could be unlocked by showing a photo of the user. Some fingerprint technology also has its limitations and can struggle to recognise some individuals.

So for the moment we will carry on using passwords – but I think we can all agree the future certainly does hold a lot of exciting possibilities.

We are more than aware of the power of the internet in supporting sales and helping businesses reach global markets, but it is not just our industry which is seeing the benefits.

Fashion, particularly retail is also benefitting from the online market and through its success is heralding the latest supermodels.

Once renowned for gracing catwalks, supermodels are now being created by the internet, preferring to model online as this offers greater financial rewards.

In the UK we spend £6.5 billion a year buying clothing and footwear online, that’s a sixth of the total amount spent annually on fashion in this country.

A certain select group of models are in high demand by a number of online websites such as Littlewoods, Asos, Urban Outfitters, and Marks & Spencers.

Getting the right model to show off a particular outfit is bringing great rewards to these businesses. Research has shown conclusively that removing a particular model from these sites can see sales slump significantly.

There are also instances where asking one of these models to wear an outfit which has been performing poorly, has seen sales boosted by as much as 800 per cent.

In the eighties, the supermodel Linda Evangelista was made famous for saying that she and her group of fellow models, which included Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell as well as many more, did not get out of bed for less than £10,000.

Today’s e-commerce supermodel can earn up to £20,000 a week modelling online and bring huge rewards to the businesses using them.

It’s nearly time to put on our red noses and celebrate Red Nose Day, while also raising money for a great cause.

We love the choice of red noses this year (which are called the Dinosesaurs), with three to choose from – T Spex, Triceytops and Dinomite. If like us you can’t choose one, why not purchase all three. Take a look for yourself and let us know which one you’ll be picking – http://shop.rednoseday.com/Category.aspx?CategoryId=69#

They cost £1 with at least 60p going to Comic Relief!

We’ve checked the Comic Relief website and the money spent this Red Nose Day will help people living incredibly tough lives across Africa and here in the UK.

At home in the UK, Red Nose Day cash helps a wide range of people including isolated and vulnerable young carers, disadvantaged communities living with poor mental and physical health, as well as supporting survivors of domestic violence.

In Africa, Red Nose Day cash supports a wide spectrum of projects such as helping communities living in poverty get the healthcare they need, and providing regular access to clean water. This gives them a better chance of staying healthy and an opportunity for a better future.

So don’t delay buy your red nose today!

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I’m sure like the rest of us you want to buy something extra special for your mum to let her know how much she means to you.

Unfortunately, some of us will not be able to spend the day with our mums and may be separated by distance – by either living abroad or in another part of the country.

This can sometimes make it difficult to ensure you deliver your mum a personal message that shows exactly how much you care.

To help those of you that may be delivering your present through the post – we’ve done our research and gathered together our top three presents that your mum will definitely be pleased to receive:

Jewellery – mum’s don’t care about expensive jewellery, they’d rather have something personal to remind them of your special relationship, so we love this necklace, which can also be personalised - http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/poshtotty/product/new-years-mummy-and-children-necklace

A Pamper Hamper – mum’s spend a great deal of time looking after others, so why not treat her to a special pamper hamper, which will allow her to just think about herself for a change – http://www.marksandspencer.com/Marks-and-Spencer-Pamper-Hamper/dp/B009113060

Your Life Story – we’ve all shared wonderful moments with our mums who’ve helped us navigate tricky situations in our lives – so we think this present is perfect, as it allows you to create your own special moments to share on Mother’s Day and is guaranteed to bring on some tears – http://www.prezzybox.com/my-life-story.aspx

As London Fashion Week 2013 draws to a close, retailers are reporting a positive effect from the capital’s hottest fashion event.

During the week around 80-plus shows took place, which were attended by more than 5,000 fashion designers, bloggers, photographers, models and buyers. There’s little wonder that the event has had such a ripple effect to retail stores online and on the high street.

Cloud Fulfilment, a new service which helps online businesses store and distribute their products has reported a spike in activity during the week, as its clothing retailers attempt to keep up with the increase in interest from the public. The company praises London Fashion Week event organisers for their integration of social media and online technology, which it believes has had a powerful effect on consumer spending.

Through social media the week is now open to a much wider audience, with more people able to enjoy fashion and become influenced by the latest trends.

Many of the shows during the week were watched live by consumers on YouTube, while also following backstage goings-on in real time via Instagram and Twitter.

In 2011 Burberry set the trend by sharing its looks on Twitter before the clothes appeared on the runway. Last September designer Jonathan Saunders went even further by collaborating with the shopping site Motilo to share his collection with consumers and allow them to pre-order garments.

This year’s latest collaboration between Topshop and Google could change the way designers think about catwalk shows forever.

Topshop’s fashion show was delivered across its own website, YouTube and Google+. The access offered to online viewers has been better than ever before. Models wore outfits fitted with HD micro-cameras, giving home viewers a model’s-eye view of everything from their first steps out on to the catwalk to the quick-change backstage. Google Hang Out events also allowed people to speak directly with designers and fashion editors to discuss the show, and Be the Buyer App enabled users to curate the collection and get tips from the buyers on how to put looks together.

Olly Murs was voted the most popular celebrity that women would like to receive a Valentine’s present from this year, beating off stiff competition from traditional heartthrobs like Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Daniel Craig.

The vote by men was equally split between Katy Perry, Cheryl Cole and Fearne Cotton; all of whom proved to be a popular choice.

Rather unexpectedly perfume and aftershave was the most popular gift choice.
