From The Locker: Free Haircut Event for GISD Students

GISD students are invited to the 14th annual Locker FREE Haircut Event on September 29. The event will be held in the Cosmetology salon at the Future Ready Complex from 5-7pm.

Parents/Guardians can reach out to mcalisterm@georgetownisd.org with questions. To tentatively schedule a haircut time, send an email with your child's name, your contact information, and the approximate time you are coming for your FREE haircut between 5- 7 pm.

From Optimum: Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest

Optimum is excited to announce their 19th Annual Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest. This year, middle and high school students can submit an essay and reflect on how they have been influenced by Hispanic culture. Prizes include a $3,000 scholarship and iPads!

The contest opens September 1st and submissions will be accepted through October 15th. Results will be announced in mid-November, and celebration events will be held for the winners in December.

This is a free community event, and all are welcome. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

From The Georgetown Project: Volunteer on 9/11 Service Day this Saturday

9/11 is part of a nationwide movement to honor and remember through service on the 9/11 National Day of Service. This day stands as a permanent tribute to those who were lost or injured, as well as those who rose in service.

All ages in the Georgetown area are welcome to join volunteer efforts on Saturday, September 12th from 8:30am - 12:30pm. Meet at Christ Lutheran Church (510 Luther Dr, Georgetown, TX) to register and grab a T-shirt (T-shirts are first come, first served)

Williamson County to Host Community Event Regarding Justice Complex Project Tonight

Williamson County is hosting an in-person event to receive community feedback and comments regarding the Williamson County Justice Complex project.

The Commissioners Court has requested these sessions in order to listen to the community and receive the community’s input. There will not be a formal agenda or presentation, and no technical staff will be present. The format will be a come-and-go-style event with opportunities for general comment, feedback on processes and procedures and for attendees to sketch their own designs for the site’s layout.

The goal of these events is to provide opportunities for residents to provide authentic feedback on the project to Williamson County.

The 8th Annual 50 Fellas Food Fest, organized by the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation (GEF), is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Ride On Center for Kids (R.O.C.K.) in Georgetown, Texas. This premier fundraising event invites local community members to form chef teams to prepare and serve appetizers, entrées, or desserts. Attendees can sample these culinary creations and vote for their favorites, with winners earning bragging rights. Beyond the friendly competition, the event features live music, a raffle, and beverages, all contributing to a festive atmosphere. Proceeds from the Food Fest support GEF's mission to fund innovative educational programs and grants for teachers and students within Georgetown ISD.

Junior Leadership Georgetown is a program created to develop the next generation of Georgetown community leaders. This nine-month program for high school juniors and seniors is designed to strengthen participants’ leadership skills, community awareness, and involvement. Junior Leadership Georgetown will provide participants with quality, relevant leadership training along with knowledge of the community, its needs, and opportunities. It allows participants to form effective relationships with current, past, and future leaders in the community. The deadline for applications is July 17th.

America celebrates 250 years of independence in 2026. The public is invited to celebrate America’s semiquincentennial on Sunday, June 14, at a red, white and blue birthday celebration including food, music, games and entertainment.

The free, family-friendly event will be at Old Settlers Association, 3300 E. Palm Valley Blvd., in Round Rock from 1 to 4 p.m. Free cupcakes and ice cream will be provided, with additional refreshments available for purchase from onsite food trucks.

Scheduled entertainment includes A Sock Monkey Circus puppet show, free balloon figures, Colonial-era dancers, Sun City Georgettes, Sun City Singers, patriotic face painting, colonial-era re-enactors, 1770s-themed games and a performance by the Patriotic Fife and Drum Corp during the retiring of the flags.

The event is hosted by Williamson County, the Williamson Museum and the Alexander Hamilton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution along with the following chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution: Daniel Coleman Chapter in Georgetown; Robert Gilbert Livingston Chapter in Georgetown; and the San Gabriel Chapter in Cedar Park.

Georgetown Community Organizations Partner to Host School Supply Distribution Event August 8

Families in Georgetown who need assistance with school supplies can get free backpacks and supplies on Saturday, August 8 from 10:30 am -12:30 pm at The Carver Center for Families, 1200 W. 17th Street, Georgetown.

This free event is being hosted by the Georgetown Cultural Citizens Memorial Association (GCCMA) in partnership with Georgetown ISD, Georgetown Police Department (GPD), Georgetown Fire Department (GFD), STARRY, the Carver Center for Families, the Georgetown Health Foundation, Macedonia Church, Walmart, and H-E-B.

“The Georgetown Cultural Citizens Memorial Association is proud to lead this event and support families in our community,” said GCCMA President Regina Durden. “Through the incredible collaboration of community partners, local businesses and generous individuals, we are hoping to collect enough supplies to support 2,000 students through the event.”

PARTICIPATE

No registration is needed. The event is open to any family in Georgetown, Texas in need of school supplies.

Gates at the site will open at 10:30 am on August 8. Families should enter the campus from Scenic Drive to access the backpack and supply distribution. Parents can let volunteers know the age and gender of the children in their household and the quantity needed, and volunteers will hand out backpacks to families in this drive-through-style event.

The event runs from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm, and supplies will be distributed until they run out.

Any family in GISD who is unable to attend the event and needs assistance with supplies is encouraged to let their child’s counselor know so that supplies can be made available to those students at the start of school.

Texas Syndicate Football Opens Season May 23 - Free Tickets for GISD Staff and Families

The Texas Syndicate is a new professional football organization rooted right here in Central Texas. To help kick off their inaugural season, they are partnering with local school districts.

The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) has developed a Transportation Emission Reduction Plan. After reviewing the region’s current transportation emissions and gathering community input, this plan developed future emission scenarios, collaboratively developed regional goals and objectives, and provided an actionable set of strategies to directly reduce transportation emissions across the region.

CAMPO invites the public to review the plan at campo-terp.com to learn about how it will aim to reduce emissions in the region. Online materials, comment opportunity, and a calendar of in-person outreach events are available at campotexas.org/get-involved.
