Did you know? Dolly Parton is the original author of this song. She wrote it in 1973 for her former business partner and mentor, country music star Porter Wagoner, with whom she was having a disagreement . Houston recorded the song for the movie 'The Bodyguard,' which was handpicked by her co-star, Kevin Costner.
9. Bette Midler: 'Wind Beneath My Wings'
Did you know? Six years before Bette Midler's version of the song won her a Grammy, Gary Morris' recording won Song of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
8. Louis Armstrong: 'What a Wonderful World'
Did you know? After the Sept. 11 attacks, Clear Channel created a list of songs that might not be appropriate for airplay, and 'What a Wonderful World' was included, for some reason. Ironically, the song was written as an 'antidote' to the stresses of the modern world and is meant to lend listeners a few minutes of escapism.
7. Luther Vandross: 'Dance With My Father'

Did you know? Carey was recruited to write the song for the film 'Hero' and never intended to sing it herself, instead having Gloria Estefan in mind to perform it. I couldn't stop, it was so beautiful."
4. Faith Hill: 'There You'll Be'
Did you know? The song was written by Diane Warren for the movie 'Pearl Harbor.' It was first offered to Celine Dion, who sang Diane Warren's 'My Heart Will Go On' for the 'Titanic' soundtrack, but Dion refused and Faith Hill was chosen instead.
3. Josh Groban: 'You Raise Me Up'
Did you know? 'You Raise Me Up' was originally an instrumental titled 'Silent Story.' The song is based on a traditional Irish tune that also lends its melody to the popular 1910 song 'Danny Boy.' The lyrics were written by Brendan Graham, and after it became a hit in Europe, Josh Groban was chosen to perform the song.

I know it is probably not "party" related, but I think it does have a lot to do with Kansas City entertainment. Kansas City sports while depressing the last few years is a major part of the entertainment landscape, which brings me to the topic of the blog.

How does Jason Whitlock still have a job?
As far as I can tell, the guy has no real opinions of his own, only the one's that will get him the most attention. His columns and television appearances are one giant publicity stunt, no pun intended... I am suprised the Kansas City Star allows him to continue, but since he is the only thing moving the rag these days, I guess I shouldn't be. However, I am shocked and disappointed for ESPN and Kansas City every time I see him on TV. This is a guy who has developed an entire career on controversy and race. I am completely done with him. I suppose that is the only way to ever get rid of him.

I am changing the channel, radio station, leaving the website, and I would stop getting the paper but I did that in 2003... Please join me.

1. Picture - Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow
You and the girl you just met want to sing, it doesn't mean you should...

2. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cindy Lauper
You and your girlfriends on your birthday/bachelorette party want to sing really high for four minutes... Go with I Touch Myself next time, at least then the guys will be happy.

3. I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
We get it, your bitter. Try Dixie Chicks or Miranda Lambert instead... Still bitter but not as predicable.

4. Summer Nights - Grease
We've heard it. We've heard it by better singers than you too. Try breaking up the duet and picking a rocking fast song.

5. Paradise By The Dashboad Light - Meatloaf
Same as above plus 3 minutes of misery...

6. Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond
This one is for the boys. I know it is fun to do after midnight and get the gang up there, but just do me a favor and sing it, don't yell it. Also, let the crowd to the Bum Bums... Don't force it.

7. Love Shack - B52s
This one is for the couples again. It can be good if both people can sing and take it seriously, but most of the time one party will butcher this... Better off just letting the one who can sing go solo.

8. Desperado - Eagles
Way to slow for a bar and takes a lot of talent. Try something faster and more rocking like Keep Your Hands To Yourself by the Georgia Satellites.

9. Old Country Songs
IE. Patsy Cline's Walking After Midnight, or Amarrillo By Morning for the guys. Too old, slow and a total show killer. Try some current country or southern rock and party with the rest of us. No tears in our beers...

10. Anything By Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, or Evanescense
Trust Me, this will be 5 painful minutes of screaching unless you are a professional singer. Let's just skip it... Only exception is Whitney's I Wanna Dance With Somebody. That is just good clean fun!

Top 10 Best Icebreaker, Mixer, & Party Games

Positive Reinforcement Cards Game
Whenever a participant arrives to class on time from breaks, lunch, etc. give them one playing card. You can also hand out cards to people who volunteer for activities, are helpful, answers a difficult question, etc. At the end of the day, play one hand of poker. Give a small prize to the best hand (you can also pick the top two or three hands if you want to give away more prizes). Note that the more cards a person has, the better the chance of winning.
The Talent Show
Everyone selects one talent or special gift that they possess and can demonstrate for the group. They introduce themselves, explain what their special talent is, and then perform their special talent for the group.
Paper Airplane Game
Everyone makes a paper airplane and writes their name, something they like and dislike on it (You may also want to add additional questions). On cue, everyone throws their airplane around the room. If you find an airplane, pick it and keep throwing it for 1-2 minutes. At the end of that time, everyone must have one paper airplane. This is the person they must find and introduce to the group.
Favorite Animal Game
As the guests arrive, and before you write their names on a name card, ask them to tell you their favorite animal and three adjectives to describe the animal. As they tell you, write the three adjectives on a name tag BEFORE their name (omit the name of the animal). Ask them to mingle with the crowd, sharing why these adjectives best describe their own personality. EXAMPLES: Loyal, cuddly, playful Dan
Marooned Game
You are marooned on an island. What five (you can use a different number, such as seven, depending upon the size of each team) items would you have brought with you if you knew there was a chance that you might be stranded. Note that they are only allowed five items per team, not per person. You can have them write their items on a flip chart and discuss and defend their choices with the whole group. This activity helps them to learn about other's values and problem solving styles and promotes teamwork.
Human Bingo Game
Before the meeting, make a bingo matrix and at the top of each square put something that someone in the group might have done-for example, voted for Ross Perot, served in the Peace Corps, etc. Everyone gets a copy and is asked to circulate, getting other group members to sign one square that is true of them. The first person to get "bingo" wins the prize (a candy bar or some other small thing).
Out on the Town Game
If you have a two-day meeting and need a quick warm-up for day two, ask everyone to pantomime something they did the night before. Individuals or groups can act out a movie they went to, describe a meal they ate, or recreate a scene witnessed at a bar.
Four Facts Game
Each person writes down four facts about themselves, one of which is a lie. Each person takes turns reading their list aloud and the rest of the team writes down the one they think is the lie. When all are done reading the lists aloud, the first person reads their list again and identifies the lie. The team sees how well they did.
Kangaroo Court Game
Try this if there's an incident that irritates members of your group. Announce that a kangaroo court will be held to properly try and prosecute all guilty parties. After you make the announcement, everyone will begin to view the incident in question with a contagious sense of humor. Name the defendants. Select a lawyer for the defense, as well as a prosecuting attorney. Write up formal charges and submit them to the judge. Appoint a bailiff and court recorder. Screen and swear in your jurors.
Make a Date Game
Give each participant a paper plate. Have them draw the face of a clock on their plate with a line next to each number (no digitals!). Then have participants walk around a find a "date" for each hour, writing their name by the hour. The catch is no one can make a "date" with more than one person per hour. After everyone has made their dates, speed up time and allow 1-3 minutes for each hour. The facilitator then asks a question for discussion on each date. The pairs will have a chance to get to know one another.

I think Michael Jackson had some serious mental illnesses that plaqued his adult life, but I also don't think you can blame him for that. He clearly was abused and exploited as a child and just never grew up. Even through all that, he was so talented that his music and performances defined a generation, redefined music videos, and branded him the King of Pop. I truly believe that Michael Jackson should be remember for the lessons he taught us on and off the stage.

Now PartyKC.com is the number 1 station for the variety category, and in the Top 500 Internet Radio station online. Kansas City can truly be proud that we are showing the world how to party.

I think the really cool thing is that Kansas City Online Radio has been taken to a new level. It is National Karaoke Week! Come celebrate this fine activity with me at Paddy O'Quigley's in Leawood, 119th and Roe. After all, we were voted best karaoke in Kansas City this year...

Wednesday night from 9pm to Midnight is the show for singers. You can pretty much sing as much as you want and try out those new songs you have been dying to do, but too scared to try in front of the packed house on Saturday.

Mizzou Is In The Elite 8!

Wow! What a game! The Tigers did it, and now it is up to the Jayhawks to keep up? Where you at KU? We are already in the Elite 8... If you win a couple games you just might see us in the Final 4!

Ok, so I know that might be a bit early, but hey, we haven't been here in awhile. We might as well enjoy it while it lasts...

This is the happiest I have ever been to have my bracket totally screwed. I was in firt place, but I had Memphis winning it all. I guess that will teach me to never bet against my Tigers.

For those of you who don't know, I went to MU and have been I life-long fan. I really hope KU does as well as MU in the tournament here, just not better...

That is a Top 10 finish in Football and Basketball now, and we have the highest athelete GPA is the BCS Conferences. I think it is safe to say we officially kick ass!

iPhone and Internet Radio

If you didn't get the whole iphone and internet radio thing with us being added to itunes radio last week, I will explain it a little bit more.

With iTunes, you can listen to internet radio without actually visiting our home page. So technically you could have listened to us on your computer and iPhone before last week, by just going to www.partykc.com and clicking the "listen live button". Now you can just skip that and pull up itunes on your computer or iphone and click on the radio tab on the left menu. You will get a list of internet radio station and categories. I think we are listed under three of them, but I know for sure we are under POP music. So click that and scroll down to PartyKC.com. and then click on our link to start listening.

Of course you can listen to us on any phone that has internet access, but the iphone makes it a little bit easier and I assume will handle the bandwidth necessary for internet radio. Our streaming audio only requires 64K download speed and there is a buffer, so if you temporarily lose the signal or slow down on the download speed, the music will keep playing.

I think this is going to be awesome for us at PartyKC.com because the music we play is aimed at the 18-35 year old demo and is perfect for working out. I can totally picture someone plugging in the headphones to the iphone and listening to internet radio while running or working out. There are some portable internet radio players on the market too, but you would have to have a wireless internet connection to make the work. That means jogging is out of the question in most outdoor places. However with cell signals everywhere, phones will be a great resource and medium for internet radio. I think the technology and opportunity for internet radio will only continue to grow in the future and getting added to iTunes internet radio is a big step to make sure we take advantage of every chance we have to reach people.

If you have any suggestions about how or where we can broadcast the internet radio stream, please send me an email and help us out! We are a professional, full-time internet radio station, but the budget is lean and we could use all the help we can get to spread the word about us...

Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Headquarters

Here are a few interesting notes about St. Patrick's Day!

The person who was to become St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was born in Wales about AD 385. His given name was Maewyn, and he almost didn't get the job of bishop of Ireland because he lacked the required scholarship.

Far from being a saint, until he was 16, he considered himself a pagan. At that age, he was sold into slavery by a group of Irish marauders that raided his village. During his captivity, he became closer to God.

He escaped from slavery after six years and went to Gaul where he studied in the monastery under St. Germain, bishop of Auxerre for a period of twelve years. During his training he became aware that his calling was to convert the pagans to Christianity.

His wishes were to return to Ireland, to convert the native pagans to Christianity. But his superiors instead appointed St. Palladius. But two years later, Palladius transferred to Scotland. Patrick, having adopted that Christian name earlier, was then appointed as second bishop to Ireland.

Patrick was quite successful at winning converts. And this fact upset the Celtic Druids. Patrick was arrested several times, but escaped each time. He traveled throughout Ireland, establishing monasteries across the country. He also set up schools and churches which would aid him in his conversion of the Irish country to Christianity.

His mission in Ireland lasted for thirty years. After that time, Patrick retired to County Down. He died on March 17 in AD 461. That day has been commemorated as St. Patrick's Day ever since.

Much Irish folklore surrounds St. Patrick's Day. Not much of it is actually substantiated.
Some of this lore includes the belief that Patrick raised people from the dead. He also is said to have given a sermon from a hilltop that drove all the snakes from Ireland. Of course, no snakes were ever native to Ireland, and some people think this is a metaphor for the conversion of the pagans. Though originally a Catholic holy day, St. Patrick's Day has evolved into more of a secular holiday.

One traditional icon of the day is the shamrock. And this stems from a more bona fide Irish tale that tells how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Trinity. He used it in his sermons to represent how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could all exist as separate elements of the same entity. His followers adopted the custom of wearing a shamrock on his feast day.

The St. Patrick's Day custom came to America in 1737. That was the first year St. Patrick's Day was publicly celebrated in this country, in Boston.

Today, people celebrate the day with parades, wearing of the green, and drinking beer. One reason St. Patrick's Day might have become so popular is that it takes place just a few days before the first day of spring. One might say it has become the first green of spring.
