The UK's first wedding party in a shopping mall has been held in Scotland, after scooping the top prize in a competition.

Kingdom Shopping Centre in Glenrothes played host to the confetti and personalised bunting and banners as Euan Crawford and Laura Macdonell tied the knot in front of friends, family and surprised shoppers on July 4th.

Euan said he had a nervous wait for bride Laura after she arrived about 20 minutes late.

He added: 'My bottom lip started quivering when I saw Laura looking so beautiful at the top of the red carpet but I managed to hold it together. Speaking to guests now everyone's just had such a fantastic time and are all really enjoying themselves.'

The lucky couple were the winners of a competition run by the mall which saw them receive a full wedding ceremony and reception package worth over £12,000.

Last month, wedding and honeymoon travel company RomanceTravelConcierge.com stated that more couples are looking to hold their wedding parties overseas in the difficult economic climate.

More Brits 'choosing barbe-nicking parties'

Brits are this year combining barbecues and picnics to make the most of their summer parties, it has been revealed.

According to frozen food manufacturer Dalepak, 'barbe-nicking' is a great altenative for staycationing would-be holidaymakers who are choosing not to head abroad this summer.

Spokesperson for the group Anne Claypole commented that demand for barbecue party fare such as sausages and burgers is on the up.

"Not surprisingly, the barbe-nic is an activity born out of the credit crunch, as we are all looking for low-cost activities to enjoy over the summer holidays," she added.

Ms Claypole went on to say that in order to throw a perfect summer party, every reveller's party box should include a picnic rug, a portable barbecue and some easy-to-prepare food.

Last month, wine consultant Leslie Sbrocco wrote for MSNBC that light summer tipples such as crisp sauvignon blancs and rieslings are the best accompaniment for barbecues and tropical parties.

Enjoying less traditional wedding party themes can be a good way to celebrate within a budget, it has been claimed.

Ana Barreto, director of sales and marketing at wedding venue the Doubletree Hotel, said it is also possible to pick up excellent deals if arrangements, such as those for personalised invitations and gift bags, are planned less than six months in advance.

She added: 'Almost every hotel and catering hall has its own florists, photographers, videographers, entertainers and other vendors they recommend who may be more willing to work within your budget than someone you hire on your own.'

Ms Barreto went on to say that costs for afternoon weddings are usually less expensive than for evening bashes, while scaling back the guest list also offers the opportunity to control spending.

This week, specialist event planner Weddings and Honeymoons Abroad stressed that overseas ceremonies are becoming increasingly popular in the current economic climate.

Baby food parties 'to provide best start in life'

Parties are being thrown in Bolton to encourage babies to make the transition from soft to solid food, it has been revealed.

Parents will receive gift bags providing education on correct eating habits at the children's parties, which are designed to help give the youngsters the best start in life, according to the Bolton News.

Lizzie Ashworth, adviser at the Food and Health Team at NHS Bolton, told the news provider that the events may also prevent the development of fussy eating problems and diet-related diseases.

'Knowing when's best to start and what foods to give will help you provide your child with the best possible start to eating,' she added.

'Weaning plays a key role in establishing good eating habits from an early age.'

Earlier this week, the Bradenton Herald reported that parents should plan children's parties weeks in advance in order to prevent them descending into chaos.

A university student in Northern Ireland is gearing up to celebrate with a double graduation and birthday party today, it has been revealed.

Mr White commented: 'Finding out I was graduating on my birthday was quite a surprise. It's going to be quite a party, graduating and turning 25 on the same day.'

Also on July 9th, Gavin McConvey and his niece Ciara Gilmore, both from Downpatrick, will celebrate with graduation parties after recieving a BA in Business and Management and Bachelor of Education respectively.

In an additional twist of fate, the pair also share the same birthday and celebrated their 40th and 18th birthday parties on the same day in a joint event.
