On why we write

We write to expose the unexposed. If there is one door in the castle you have been told not to go through, you must. Otherwise, you'll just be rearranging furniture in rooms you've already been in. Most human beings are dedicated to keeping that one door shut. But the writer's job is to see what's behind it, to see the bleak unspeakable stuff, and to turn the unspeakable into words -- not just into any words but if you can, into rhythm and blues.

I got this notebook just because the pages were pretty.

I scraplifted the design of this layout from above.

"Drink me" and Alice stamp from a limited edition set from Queen Kat Designs.

Book stamp from Taiwan, although I think it's made in Korea.

Journaling reads:

I tried to fight the e-book thing as long as I could.

Anyone who knows me knows that bookstores are my most favorite places in the world.

When I reluctantly replaced my old reliable Sony Ericsson, with the kick-ass camera, I finally settled on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini-Pro.

And it was all downhill from there.

Hard to believe that AR and I will be celebrating 10 years together this year. As I wrote in my journaling, it only feels like it's been a day.

One of Matt's pet peeves @ 7 years old: being called a "baby", especially by strangers. He feels like he's all grown up. His current interests: playground bonding time with his friends every single day, Spongebob 24/7, Angry Birds, PC/android games.

The photo on the right is one he took of himself with AR's old camera phone back in 2008.

This is an old layout that I finally put the finishing touches on, after I finished the ones above.

It started with the photo. It was when the printer was conking out of ink. I decided to salvage the photo by tracing the visible lines with a pen.

I was listening to Aimee Mann's "Save Me" while stamping this so I scribbled some of the lyrics a little above this.

I'm incredibly boring and repetitive with my doodles, I'm afraid. I doodle these blob things, an eye, moon and stars, and I'm pretty much done.

My word for 2012, inspired by Ali Edwards. See her post HERE.

I altered this journal I found by adhering text pages with Mod Podge, then adding a layer of gesso once everything was dry. I then stamped with Ranger Archival Ink.

I spelled out my word with different chipboard letters (some of them weren't black so I painted them black), then added the "Y" by using a stencil and black acrylic paint.

Lastly, I used Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents to adhere the chipboard plus the feather.

It's the year 2012, a brand-new year.

I had a miserable time over the holidays. I had yet another epic fight with my Mom. I'd like to say it was entirely her fault, but well, of course I would tell the story from my point of view.

Suffice it to say that I am learning to stand up for myself and to appreciate who I am, and to draw strength from the people who DO matter. God loves me, my husband loves me, and I have a son whom I need to be strong and live for. That's all that really matters, in the end.

New Year's Eve, last night, I had a severe allergic reaction to alcohol. I had one glass of Bailey's and, before I knew it, my pulse was throbbing like crazy, my head started spining, and I broke out in a rash.

I'm no doctor, but let's just say I thank God there was antihistamine and blood pressure meds in the house, else I probably won't be here typing this.

It's funny to "almost die" on New Year's Eve. AR was in a calm panic, frantically searching for the antihistamine and asking if I wanted to go to the hospital. Matt was almost in tears.

It gives you a new perspective on life.

Honestly, all the bad stuff in the past doesn't matter. The only important thing is what you are doing with your life right now. The future doesn't even matter, because all we really have is this moment right now. Of course, as parents, we want the future to be bright, especially for our children.

But, at the end of the day, all we can do is to work and live as best as we can, in every moment we're still here.

Anyway, just wanted to share the talk for the New Year given at CCF. Yes, it's very pertinent, I think, and probably reassures me so much more than I can say.

We have one life. What will you do with your one precious life?

Washi tape + journal + writing

I don't seem to need anything else in my art journaling but washi tape + pens.

This is one of my art journal pages.

I usually just stick on some washi tape then doodle or write. Mostly, I write. This is one of those rare pages I actually drew something.

This is just a P50 Corona notebook from National Bookstore. I got tired of the cover and decided to cover it with washi tape.
