<p><span style="font-size: medium">I <strong>Sanford Davis</strong> being week of Body but of Sound mind and memory thanks be to God for the same and considering the mortality of the body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die I do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say princebeley and first of all I Recommend my sole to God that gave it and as for my body I Recommend it to the Earth to be buried at the descresion of my Executors and as touching such world goods that God hath blest me with I despose of the same in the following manner</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Item  I leve the use of all my Estate to my beloved wife <strong>Nancy Davis</strong> duoring of her natural Life and at her Decese for all my Estate to be Sold and equelly devided between my Children namely <strong>Edmond Davis</strong>, <strong>Abel Davis</strong>, <strong>Arthur Davis</strong>, <strong>Myram Davis</strong>, <strong>Johnson Davis</strong>, <strong>John Davis</strong>, <strong>Adam Davis</strong> and <strong>Reubin Smithson Davis</strong>.  I do nominate my wife<strong> Nancy Davis</strong> and <strong>Bailey Jackson</strong> Esqr. to be Executors of this my Last Will and Testament and also my will and desire is that my Executors pay my just debts with any Part of my Estate that my wife <strong>Nancy Davis</strong> can best spair   as witness hear of I have unto set my hand and Seal this 4 Day of November 1800 </span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: medium">The Last Will and Testament of <strong>Sanford Davis</strong>  deceased, was exhibited by <strong>Nancy Davis</strong> the Executrix therein named, and proved in Open Court by the oath of <strong>Isaac Frew</strong> one of the Subscribing witnesses thereto – who declared that he saw the Testator<strong> Sanford Davis</strong>, sign, seal and acknowledge though within writing for and as his Last Will and Testament, and that the said <strong>Sanford Davis</strong> at the time appeared to be of sound and disposing mind and memory, that he also saw <strong>William Holliday</strong> sign the same as a ???  Witness – The said Executrix appeared and qualified by taking the Oath by law prescribed.  Ordered that the Will be Recorded and letters testamentary issue -</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: medium">In the name of God Amen I <strong>Arthur Davis</strong> being in reasonable good health and of sound mind and memory do make this my Last Will and Testament this first day of February one thousand eight hundred and three in manner and form following that is to say first….</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">I leave the use of the Land and Plantation where on I live to my Loving wife <strong>Basheba Davis</strong> during her Natural Life also I leve the use of all my Cattle Horses Sheepe and Hogs  Porke and Corn to gether with all the provisions of Every kind that is loyd in for the family, me? and all of house hole and kittchen furniture and all my Plantation Tools during her Natural Life…….</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Item  I give and devise to <strong>Arthur Davis</strong> my grandson after the death of my loving wife a part of the Land and Plantation where on I now live Beginning at a pine <em>Phillip Seleys corner tree</em> standing in the mouth of a little branch then running along the said <em>Seleys line</em> to the lane between my self and <strong>John Davis</strong> then up the lane to <em>Ann Davises Wheat Patch fence</em> then a long the said Wheat Patch fince to a Prim Bush then as the fence runs a strate Course to the old rode then up the ? a ?? to a marked Pine standing in <em>Bailey Jacksons line</em> then down the said Jacksons line to the first station to him and his heirs and assigns for Ever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Item  That Part of my Land and Plantation where on my Daughter in Law <strong>Ann Davis</strong> lives on I leave the use of to her my Daughter in Law during her Natural Life or Widower hood and after the death or marage of my Daughter in Law <strong>Ann Davis</strong> I give and devis all the Land and Plantation where on I now live that I have not before given to my grandson <strong>Arthur Davis</strong> to be Equally devided between <strong>Edmon Davis</strong>, <strong>Abel Davis</strong>, <strong>Johnston Davis</strong>, <strong>John Davis</strong>, <strong>Adam Davis</strong>, <strong>Reubin Davis</strong> sons of my son <strong>Sanford Davis</strong> to them and their heirs and assigns for Ever…….</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: medium"><strong>Transcriber’s notes:</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Capt. Arthur Davis was the son of Thomas Davis and his wife, Ann Pendleton. Thomas Davis made a deed of gift to his son Arthur Davis on Aug 19, 1747 for 100 acres. Thomas Davis made a deed of gift to his son John Davis on Jan 30, 1748 for 100 acres.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Arthur married Bathsheba Sanford. They had 4 children: Arthur Davis, Jr., Rebecca Davis, Sanford Davis and Bathsheba Davis.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Both of Arthur’s sons died before him. Arthur Davis, Jr. was killed in an accident by his father shooting deer on the &#8220;Old Horse Path&#8221; back of David Smithson&#8217;s. Sanford Davis died in 1801. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">A list of taxable property in District 5 taken by David Pritchard in 1795 shows Arthur Davis was listed as having 489 acres of land.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">In 1798 Captain Arthur Davis deeds 100 acres to his son Sanford.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">In 1799 a deed to Rebecca Seeley for 58.5 acres was made stating &#8220;the love and affection I bear to my daughter&#8221;.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">In June 1800 Capt. Arthur Davis deeds to his grandson Philip Seeley 7.7 acres.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">In March 1805 Capt. Arthur Davis deeds to grandson Edmond Davis, son of Sanford, 30 acres.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">In May 1805 Capt. Arthur Davis deeds to his grandson Arthur Davis, Jr. 37.3 acres.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">In June 1805 Capt. Arthur Davis deeds land to his grandson Abel Davis 14 acres.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">In December 1805 Capt. Arthur Davis deeds to Nathaniel Downs 356 acres of swampland for $150.00.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: medium">Know all men by these presents that I <strong>Agnes Trublood</strong> of Pasquotank River and of the County aforesaid widdow; through the  naturall affections that I bare unto my dear Children &amp;  for other good reasons and  ___ ___ ____: doe To my voluntary good will and naturall respects to my fore children that is to say <strong>Mary Trublood Elizibeth Trublood John Trublood &amp; Amos Trublood</strong> I doo freely give unto my fore Children the one halfe of all the negro Children that shall be begotten or born of the body of my negro woman called Diana; And if it should happen that she should have but one that then the young negro to be valued and my Children to have their choyce either the young negro or of halfe worth of ____negro &amp; if the negro woman should have two Children that they shall have theire first choyce; And I doo freely give unto my Children aforesaid the mantainance of those young negros untill my Children comes to age to receive them; That is my daughter <strong>Mary</strong> to have the first negro child if it Lives my daughter<strong> Elizibeth</strong> the next as they fall in ___ as above mentioned _____To my Children partcularly as they come to age likewise I do give unto my four Children above said theire mantained untill they comeTo Lawful Age for the use of theire Estate; and to pay them theire portions as they come to Age according to the Appraisment of their fathers Estate as wittness my hand this fifteenth day of September/ 1692</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: medium">Know all men by these presents that I <strong>Amos Trueblood</strong> of the County and Province aforesaid Planter do make and ordain these presents to contain my last will and testment for the disposal for such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life in manner &amp; form following (viz).First I will that all my just debts &amp; funeral expenses be paid out of my estate in convenient time after my decease.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Imprimus  I give to my son<strong> Thomas Trueblood</strong> a tract of land &amp; plantation lying on <em>Mill Creek</em> in Pasquotank County being the place where he now lives, which <strong>Thomas Cartwright</strong> gave to his daughter<strong> Elizabeth</strong> the late wife of me the P. Amos, containing by estimation one hundred &amp; thirty acres be the same  more or less to him, his heirs &amp; assigns forever. Also one Negroe girl called Levina with all her increase to him, his heirs &amp; assigns forever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Item    I give to my son <strong>Abel Trueblood</strong> one Negroe woman called Phillis &amp; one Negroe girl called Pleasant (daughter of Rose) with all the increase they shall happen to have after the date hereof to him his heirs &amp; assigns forever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Item    I give to my son <strong>Josiah Trueblood</strong> a tract of land and plantation which I bought of John Riggs lying on <em>Nobs Creek</em> containing by estimation ninety nine acres more or less to him, his heirs &amp; assigns forever; Also a Negroe man called Nero &amp; a Negron woman called Judith and Negroe girl called Sillah, with all the increase they shall happen to have after the date hereof to him, his heirs&amp; assigns for ever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Item   I give to my son <strong>Joshua Trueblood</strong> a parcel of land &amp; plantation in Pasquotank County joyning on the Tray(?) Tree branch that I bought of Caleb Coen, containing by estimation thirty acres more or less to him, his heirs and assigns forever; also one Negroe boy named Savone(?) one Negroe woman called Rose &amp; her child called Phebe , also one Negroe girl called Hannah, daughter of Rose, one Negroe girl called Mender(?) &amp; one Negroe girl called Patience, daughter of Rose with all their increase they shall happen to have after the date hereof also two cows and calves to him, his heirs &amp; assigns for ever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Item    I give to my Daughter, <strong>Miriam Overman</strong>, wife of <strong>John Overman</strong> six head of  sheep to her &amp; her disposal.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Item    I give to my Grandaughter <strong>Elizabeth Symons</strong> one Negroe woman named Patience with her increase and to my Grandson <strong>John Symons</strong> one Negroe boy called bob and to my Grand Son <strong>William Overman</strong> one Negroe girl called Phill with her increase &amp; to my Grandson <strong>James Overman</strong> one Negroe girl called Hannah Daughter of Patience(?) with her increase, and to the heirs of their bodies, only my will  is that their Mother <strong>Miriam Overman</strong> shall have  the use of the labor of these Negroes &amp; their increase during the term of time of her natural life, and further it is my will &amp; true intent and meaning that in case of the before mentioned grand children should happen to die childless or without heirs of their body that then the Negroe or Negroes herebygiven to them shall fall to be equally divided among the heirs of my body Exe(?)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Item    I give to my son <strong>Caleb Trueblood</strong> all my Land &amp; Plantation which I bought of Robert Kingham on <em>Little River</em> in Pasquotank County on which I now live, containing an estimation one hundred &amp; eighty fore acres be it more or less to him, his heirs &amp; assigns for ever; also one Negroe boy called Charles one Negroe boy called Pompy, one Negroe woman called Hannah, &amp; her daughter called Patience &amp; one Negroe girl called Doll, with all the increase they shall happen to have after the date hereof to him, his heirs &amp; assigns for ever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Item    I give all the residue or remainder part of my estate to be equally divided between my Sons<strong> Thomas</strong>, <strong>Abel</strong>, <strong>Josiah</strong>,<strong> Joshua</strong> &amp; <strong>Caleb Trueblood</strong> (word missing) them and their disposal.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Lastly I do hereby nominate my Sons <strong>Joshua</strong> &amp;<strong> Caleb Trueblood</strong> Executors of this my last will and testament, hereby disannulling &amp; disallowing all &amp; every other former will or wills legacies bequests or Executors before this time by me named willed &amp; bequeathed rattifieing &amp; confirming this and no other to be my Last Will &amp; Testament. In witness whereof I have here unto sett my hand and seal this Fourteenth Day of the 7th month called July One Thousand Seven and Fifty Nine.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: medium">In the name of God Amen I <strong>John Trublood</strong> being sick &amp; weak do make this my Laste will &amp; testament as followith</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Firstly I give unto my Loving wife <strong>Agnes Trueblood</strong> the moyotiv(?) or one half part of my moveable goods &amp; estate and one halfe my Land during her naturall life and after her death to be Equally divided between my two sons, <strong>John Trublood</strong> and <strong>Amos Trublood </strong>to them and their heirs forever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Secondly I give and bequeth the other moyotiv(?) or half part of my moveable goods to be Equally divided between my four children that is to say <strong>Mary Trublood</strong> <strong>Elizibeth Trublood</strong>, <strong>John Trublood</strong> and <strong>Amos Trublood</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Thirdly I ordain and appoint my Loving wife <strong>Agnes Trublood</strong> to be my true &amp; Lawfull Executrix of this last will and testament and to bring up my children according to her discretion, and to pay them their  portions as they come to Lawfull age.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">Fourthly And lastly I do ordain and Appoint in case that my wife should dye without making of any will, that then my Loveing friends <strong>Thomas Symons</strong> &amp; <strong>Jeremiah Symons</strong> shall take my Estate into theire possesion and care for the good of my children, and to bring them up according to their discreation; as wittnes my hand &amp; seal, this seventh day of May 1692.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: medium">In the name of God amen I <strong>Ann Jenning</strong>s widow of <strong>John Jennings</strong> being sick and weak of body but of sound and perfect mind &amp; memory&#8212;.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">ITEM &#8211; I give and bequeathe to my son<strong> Stephen Delamar</strong> one negro boy named Aron &amp; feather bed and furniture 4 pewter dishes 2 puter basons&#8212;.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">ITEM &#8211; I give and bequeath to my son<strong> Isaac Delamar</strong> one negro boy named Abraham feather bed and furniture 4 pewter dishes&#8212;.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">ITEM &#8211; I give to my daughter<strong> Ann Delamar</strong> two negro girls viz: Moll and Hannah &amp; a Mulattor girl called Judith my chest of drawers &amp; all that is therein my cedar chest and all that shall be therin at my death the two beds whereon I lye and furniture to them 8 pewter dishes one doz: 1/2 of plates pewter one pewter tankard marked FD one large Iron pot one small ditto all my fine eathern ware and glasses one large&#8211;(torn) knife and my limbook my looking glass one pr of bellows one spice marter and pestle my box Iron cheaters and silver spoons &amp; three of ye large shers that be in my stock at my death and my large quilt that I had by my husband <strong>Scarborough</strong> my large trunck and a small hair trunck and what is in them to her the sd Ann and her assigns forever and also I give the said Ann and her assigns forever my warming pan.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: medium">The Twenty first day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Twenty Eight Nine. I <strong>JOHN ARMOUR</strong> of the precinct of Pasquotank and provence of North Carolina. ????being very sick &amp; weak in body but perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God for the same. Therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body &amp; knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make &amp; ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian (rest of page torn)</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give and bequoth unto my Loving Wife two negroe men named Dick and Tom to her and her heirs for ever Likwise Little Sarah and Hannah as afore said for ever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give and bequoth unto my Son(?torn) <strong>ARMOUR</strong> one negroe boy named Perry, one negroe garl named Silive as also one negroe girl named Amo to him and his heirs for ever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give and bequoth unto my Daughter<strong> ANN</strong> one negroe boy named Harry one negroe boy named Jack and one negroe girl named Jane to her and her heirs for ever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give and bequeath to my Daughter <strong>MARY</strong> one negroe boy named Stephen two negroe girls named Frank and Rase to her and her heirs for ever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give and bequeath to my Wife one negroe woman named Great Sarah and all her children that which she shall bare hearafor I give to my Son I give her also three horses named Jocky Trip &amp; Capor as also one mare branded with “DB” and her increase to her and her heirs for ever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give and bequeath unto my Son a young mare of a dark bay as also a yong horse with a bold face and branded with my brand on the rear side with my with my brand.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give to my Daughter <strong>ANN</strong> one horse named Durgin as also one black mare brand on the far butock with an “ “ sid Wife a the spade mare.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give to my Daughter <strong>MARY</strong> one ???? horse named Jerky one old mare named Bony branded with “IA” and one black mare of four years old and their increase for ever.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give to my Wife one flone(?) horse named Pot(?)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I to <strong>WILLIAM DAVIS</strong> my former Wifes Brother old est heffer at <em>Griffin Swamp</em> mark with  a peak in right ear and crop in the left to him with her increase</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give unto my two Daughters <strong>ANN</strong> and <strong>MARY</strong> all the rest of the cattle of the above said mark that can be found viz. a peek in the right ear &amp; a crop in the left both them and their increase to be equally divided at the time of mariage.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give unto my Wife three yoke of oxen &#8212;&#8212;-(smudged) the hears(?) weth a crop affixt one on Rool(?) nick right ear and a crop and an und or Rool in the left to her own proper use and I give rest of my cattle to my Wife and Son to be divided at her discretion.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give to my two Daughters <strong>ANN</strong> and <strong>MARY</strong> each four ewes and a ram to be delivered  to them at the time of marriage and the remainder of the sheep I give to my Wife.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give unto my two Daughters each of them a bead and furniture to be delivered to them at their marriage.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give my Son one bead and furniture to be delivered to him at the age of eighteen years.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give to each of my Daughters a two gallon pot.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give to my Son a Cullos and a gun.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give my Daughter <strong>ANN</strong> a trunk and a small bose.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   Item. I give to my Daughter<strong> MARY</strong> a small chest.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">   I give and bequeath all the rest of my estate to my true and loving Wife whom I appoint and nominat to be my executor  together with her Father Mr. <strong>DAVID BAILY</strong> my ???? of this my Last Will and Testament containing three sides of paper and I doe hereby utterly disalow revoke and disannull all and every other former wills to???
