Even though I was trained in the area of Multimedia, and worked on building websites for many years before I started “Blogging”, I want to assure you, that my experience isn’t required to start, and eventually be successful at earning a life supporting income from blogging.

In fact, when I launched my first content website (blog), in 2007, I was working as a developer on a million dollar website development, yet I still managed to do almost everything wrong.

I Knew Nothing About Blogging

(except that I could get wealthy doing it)

So I was working in website development, mostly on the types of websites that are NOT content websites, like Business sites, Corporate Sites, Enterprise Sites, and Software as Service Sites. So my experience with blogging was ZERO.

I knew I wanted to own many of these sites someday, so I started with one.

The first thing I did right, however, was that I actually started. That’s the key to it all. Get going already. You’re odds of success increase exponentially when you start, wouldn’t you say?

I Just Started SomeWhere

I picked a topic very casually. I had an instinct for one in particular. I had tried this crazy little detox diet called The Master Cleanse a few times and so I had an impression that this topic had potential, even though at that time, I didn’t know why.

I had no research on how to choose a topic, I just chose one just to get started, because like you, even though I was earning a living, I was working all the time, trading my hours for dollars. I knew I wanted my time for myself, and to be free from an office, allowing me to travel the world.

Here’s the first list I made of how to get started (taken directly from a scribbled note on my office whiteboard):

Choose a topic

Get a domain and hosting

Install WordPress

Theme, design???

Write some content

I chose a domain name, again going only by instinct. It seemed obvious to me to put the name of the cleanse in the domain, and so I found the best Top Level Domain I could. That turned out to be very fortunate. I truly believe that having your primary keyword in your domain is a major advantage for developing your site. At least early on. Since then I have launched a few websites and ranked in the top 5 in google almost immediately just by having the keyword in the domain.

Next I wrote 4 simple articles outlining my experience, what I knew about the topic. They were not researched. They took an hour to write, and they were filled with my “train-of-thought” typos and grammatical deviations (which most of my articles tend to have).

No Experience Necessary

I built a very simple custom theme (since I was a developer after all), and launched the site. This is NOT recommend, and was a mistake. But in my defence, there wasn’t many amazing theme developers like WooThemes back then.

My experience with websites was totally working against me. I chose the hardest route in many cases because I could.

In actual fact, my experience was completely unnecessary. The steps to building a website, like Domains, Hosting and WordPress are so Facebook simple that anyone who can click a mouse can do it.

But I launched TMC.org hastily and then the next thing I did was….

NOTHING.

Well, not exactly.

From Employee to Business Owner (Job Owner)

Not long after that I left my contract to develop that web application I formed a website development company building entry level business websites for local small businesses in my hometown.

While that business was growing my knowledge in WordPress, TheMasterCleanse.org was slowly getting ranked in Google, and getting traffic. That traffic linked back to my site, and my rankings went up.

Once I noticed that TMC.org was getting some modest traffic, I started to put about and hour per week into things like writing more content.

Now my website development company was focus just on building the websites for small business, and not yet on actually marketing those websites – getting them found online in search engines so they get traffic (read new customers). I knew we need to offer this to our customers, but most of them didn’t yet get it. They didn’t know they needed to be found on Google.

After I added some Google Adsense code and started making $1/day on the little traffic it was getting I realized how important being found on Google was, even if my clients didn’t.

Rank #1 in Google – √ Check

So I started practicing on TMC.org and soon, it was ranking #1 for the most challenging keyword “Master Cleanse”.

When that happened, my traffic began to grow substantially. The daily grind of finding clients, and maintaining and office was wearing on me, especially in convincing them to do what I was doing with The Master Cleanse for their own sites.

So I began to focus about an hour per day on the site, knowing that it could compound, growing daily with each new visitor who links back to my site.

Also at that time I began to focus on how I was going to live my life through my passions, and not for profits alone. So I left for Costa Rica to explore the remote working lifestyle. I could work 90 minutes per day, and spend the rest of my day exploring the beach, learning to surf, and actively engaging life, and what inspired me.

From Business Owner to Semi-Retired at 35

After a short few months of building content, building keywords, and adding Amazon and Advertising revenue to my site, I was able to close my company and live off of my revenue from TMC.org.

No more clients. No more office. No more trading my hours for dollars.

Now that time I focused on an 80/20 principal that allowed me to rationalize spending 80% of my time living life, and only 20% of my time focused on my high leverage tasks of building TMC.org, and documenting the process so I could launch more sites like it.

I Created a System

Through that process and until now, I have been studying, testing and documenting what works and what doesn’t so that I could launch more websites like TMC.org and so I could teach others how to do the same, so that I would be able to launch websites about my other passions easily, and so that all my friends and family who’ve been asking me for years what it is that I do exactly, could benefit from my trial and error, and avoid the mistakes I made.

PassionProfits.com is the culmination of 5 full years of trial and error on how to make money online through blogging.

I put a focus on choosing to follow your passions and so for me, this website is split into two worlds: 1 – exploring and living out joyful experiences of all shapes and sizes, and 2 – leveraging those experiences so that they actually allow you to have more of them by eliminating the need for work, even the concept of work. Because when you make money doing what you love, you are never working.

Amazingly, the scribble list I made 5 years ago on how to get started is still the same today :

Choose a topic

Get a domain and hosting

Install WordPress

Theme, design???

Write some content

Now I know you’ve experienced the same as I have. You’ve felt like you’ve worked too much. Or that your business is still just a job you own. You probably feel like you don’t’ spend enough time doing what you love, time with your family, your kids.

So why wait any longer. Learn from my experience, and my mistakes. It’s all laid out in front of you. It’s free and yours for the taking. Register today. Now is always a good time to start.

This video where he introduces you to a case study that breaks down how he’s been able to share his advice and inspiration with the world and non-traditional approaches and some things that you might want to follow so that you can monetize your life story, your professional experience or your online content.

The video is really short because right below it you’ll see the case study that you can open and download as a PDF eBook that will walk you through his story a little bit so that you can follow step-by-step.

Brendon says:

Its not just a big, long “here’s my story.” It actually breaks down four important concepts that you would need to know to really take your brand to the next level if you are an author, speaker, coach, seminar leader, online thought leader, or you want to become one. Its just my story and its some of the best lessons I’ve learned. I’ll share some of those with you briefly here, then you can read the rest below.

I’m pretty sure if you’ve watched the videos I’ve sent you recently, you are either feeling inspired…….or completely overwhelmed by all the information

Well, don’t feel bad! That’s exactly how I felt when I first started down the path of figuring out how to earn a living doing what I love every single day.

So, if you are feeling both inspired and overwhelmed, I have something to share with you today that I think you are going to like!

It’s a report that my mentor Brendon has put together called “The $10M Case Study: How to Share (and Monetize) Your Advice, Content and Expertise with the World”

—-> Click here to get the $10M Case Study <—-

The $10M Case Study outlines the remarkable story of how Brendon started from scratch (in bankruptcy) and became a multimillionaire sharing his advice and inspiring countless people to follow their own dreams of financial freedom.

Brendon has also provided me with a video (27 mins long) to share with you that explains the $10M Case Study in more detail and will show you the impact that his Experts Academy has had on some of his past students.

—-> Click here to Watch The Video <—-

I think you’ll see in the video that his Experts Academy course is something that can change your life.

And, please keep in mind….the purpose of this training is not to motivate you to become an “inspirational speaker”. After all, not everyone is cut out to be a Tony Robbins and Deepak Chopra.

The types of people that benefit from Experts Academy are just like me and you.

His students are all “experts” in something…..whether it be helping others organize their homes, play the piano, lose weight or catch more fish.

And, Brendon’s step-by-step model can help ANYONE learn how to build a profitable business sharing their advice online. I know because I’ve followed his model and have seen the results!

Oh, by the way, I’ve also taken the time again to break down the video for you into a summarized “Coles Notes” type report. Like I said before, time is something we all don’t have enough of! So, hopefully this helps if you are feeling crunched for time.

—-> Click here to Download The Special Report <—-

Everyone is passionate about and talented at something. I’d love to hear what your passion is…..after all…..I’m positive it’s something you can turn into a profitable business!

So, if you are feeling up to it…..reply to this email and let me know!

[trafficplayer_youtube_video width=”650″ height=”366″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/B_VQ2LWW0_s?&autohide=1&autoplay=1&controls=1&hd=1&rel=0&showinfo=0″ ][/trafficplayer_youtube_video]

Today I am going to cover “Recognizing the Opportunity,” recognizing the opportunity of a million dollar website. A website, a blog, you’ve heard blog before, it’s just a web log, which is just a periodical posting of information, like a magazine or even a newspaper, even radio stations, even TV stations. These are properties that produce content and drive traffic. The traffic arrives, and therefore they can be monetized by different mechanisms, different revenue streams, either selling a product or getting a commission from referring a service.

Anyway, we won’t get too far into that. But what I do want you to understand it how this website, this simple website called Gardenrant.com, it’s just about gardening, sold for $1.3 million dollars just recently. That’s not an anomaly. That happens all the time.

Show Transcript

You can see here on a very good website called Income Diary about how to make money online as well, I suggest you check that out. He has an article here about a million dollar websites. Garden Rant sold for $1.3 million in 2007. That’s three years ago. I’ve been studying these sales for a long time, and there are just tons of them, tons of them. You can see there’s, I mean, $8 million, $10 million, $12 million. Okay, so that’s pie in the sky, kind of big picture what ifs, what could a website be worth? But the truth is they’re worth all kinds of things and they get all kinds of values and they build value very quickly.

Flippa is a website for buying and selling websites. If I click on “Buy Websites” here, it’ll show me a list of just sold websites. Under “Just Sold Websites,” I can see all the ones that are in green because they sold, and I can sort by the current price. I’m going to sort by the current price, and it’s going to give me a little arrow like that so it’s showing it is sorting down. So here’s a website that sold for $300,000, one for $141,000, and all the way down to $20,000, $10,000. There are five pages of this. There are 129 of these.

But here’s a website, for example, that sold for $10,000 that is just a niche site. Actually, it sold for $15,000. It’s an established, unique technology news site. What does news mean? It just means information. It’s a blog. It’s a content website. That website sold for $15,000, and the website was launched in 2009. If we click through and just have a look at the site, we can see it’s just a very simple website. It has content, it’s has categories, nothing much to it, writing content, writing content, writing content.

In fact, I made a list of these sales. This is my list of sales. Now, this is a big pile of crazy, but if we look at this column in the middle here, “Sale Price,” I’m sorting down and the top one here, look at that – there’s a couple of these that I’m still tracking, bids that are still open – look at $150 million for Huffington Post. Well, that’s massive, right? Look at all these in the thirty millions, in the tens of millions. Look at all these in the several millions, and look at all these in the $15,0005s, like they’re everywhere. They’re everywhere.

So why bother? Of course, there’s the money and the money seems compelling itself. I mean, not only do these websites have value, but they also have cash flow. The amount of value that the website has is depending on how much cash flow or revenue that the website’s doing. They have expenses as well, so this income is a figure that’s just a result of the revenue minus expenses. But isn’t that something? A lot of these sites, maybe not the $20 million ones, but these $10,000 ones, they can be doing this income, this revenue with almost no expenses. It’s pure profit and it’s almost always on autopilot.

So if that wasn’t enough reason to get you excited, what other reasons would you have for wanting to make a content website? First of all, there are taxes. Nobody likes to talk about taxes, but imagine you spent $10,000 a year gardening. That’s lost. It’s lost expenditure. It’s a disposable income. It’s discretionary income, you spend it on gardening and it’s gone. But if you have a website that has the potential to generate income, and that’s key in the eyes of the IRS and the CRA in Canada and America, is if it has a potential to earn income, it’s now a tax deductible business. So all your expenditures are now expenses and are tax deductible. So if you are spending $10,000 a year on gardening, you now have officially put $3,000 roughly, on average, into your pocket in tax savings of the very first upcoming year. That’s real money today, immediately, and all you need to do is launch a website and get started down the process. Tax savings begin immediately, not when your website is fully formed or whatever. It doesn’t even have to be making money. It just needs the potential to.

Now here’s a little chart, “Where does the money go?” It’s base on the US consumer unit of expenditures. So a consumer unit is just a family. They say their income before taxes is roughly $63,000. Well, this breaks it down into all kinds of things, like Reading $118, Transportation –the segments of transportation that you could create websites on, like maybe test driving or reviewing new vehicles once a month. You could have a new vehicle once a month and write it all off. You could have a home entertainment or a home furnishing website or green appliances, and all these housing costs start to get tax deductible. Miscellaneous, Health Care. Health care website $2,800. Personal care and health care, that’s a big one. Imagine having your gym membership, which should be tax deductible because you’re preventing illness by being healthy, it’s crazy that it’s not. But if you spent $2,000 a year on your gym membership, tax deductible. All your clothes, $2,000 could be tax deductible. Alcoholic Beverages, Food – you could have a food review site, you could have a cooking site – all those things are now subject to tax deductions. Entertainment as well, whatever that $3,000 is can be saved. What’s more, imagine if you have a small business already, or your wife or your brother does. The process of setting up this site for yourself is the exact same process I used to set up hundreds and thousands of sites for clients that I sold for $3,000. These are business-to-business sales. So I was a business selling to a business, and websites are valued at around $3,000 for entry level. So, at the end of this, you’re going to know how to do that. And what does that mean? Well, you just saved $3,000 in the cost of setting up your website for your business or for any of your friends or family, because you will have all the tools and techniques to build a website lickity split in just this flick of an eye and it won’t cost any extra money. It’s a big secret, hosting is pretty cheap. You can actually have your own website development company. You could charge other people to host their sites. Now, let’s not get too far down that path, but just know you can do it. This really is a business in a box in more than one way.

Now Passion Profits is my alpha private preview. We’re in alpha, and the design and the website it’s all kind of broken and that’s just the way it is. You can see here there’s some code that I’m being shown to help me see what template I’m using. This header and the design is old. The new one looks like this. It’s starting to come along. All the places that the content is laid out and distributed is all being built. The reason why I’m opening it up for a preview is because I need to be able to test and see what’s working, what are people needing, what’s missing. You got a bit of that overview in the welcome video, so I won’t go too far into that.

But I do want you to know that all the training and all the tools and all the resources are here. It’s step by step. It’s website by numbers. It’s business by numbers. It’s wealth by numbers. It’s life changing by numbers. This is life changing information. If you could have $50,000 a year coming in passively into your income, what would that mean for you? So I hope that’s got you excited about the Passion Profits alpha testing, private preview. Check back on the welcome video if you didn’t see that because there are some details about the requirements, the tuition you need to pay to be in this class. First of all, it’s invite only. If you stumbled across here, consider yourself invited.

You saw your way to get here, that means you are meant to be here. But there is no tuition. It doesn’t cost anything. I’d ask you to use my affiliate links so that I can get some kick back and help offset some of my expenses. But I also require you to move through these different lock steps so that you’re coming along with class. If you fail to stay up with the class, you’ll actually be left behind. Check out the welcome video to make sure that you have all that information

OK, so it’s a mixed metaphor. We started with a RoadMap, and now we’re talking GamePlans, and they even seem redundant too. But they’re not I promise. Where the Roadmap illustrated where we’re going, and what route we’ll take, The GamePlan describes HOW we’re going to do it.

The Importance in Having a Plan

Even in games where we’re meant to be playing we should have a plan (if we’re serious about winning that is -or achieving a specific objective). I was a professional athlete. I played hockey for a living. We studied, trained, and focused our energy and efforts at 80/20 activities as if we were building a business. We had a plan that we would use as a framework for success while we played the game.

In this light, we’re taking a new approach on to how we deliver this content. Of course we’re going to deliver great information, training, videos, webinars, audio download and articles on the public (free) blog. But we’re also going to be utilizing the nature of Social Networking and our evolving community to turn this process into a game, so that #1 maybe the process is even more fun than building a Million Dollar Blog could possibly be already.

The Priority is ALWAYS Having Fun

In Malcolm Gladwells amazing book “Outliers”, Malcolm describes the situations that made genius in people possible, or even more likely. It’s an amazing read full of examples and so I am paraphrasing dramatically, but what he concludes is that what we call genius, or at least the TOP 0.01 percentile of the OVER ACHIEVERS is the result of not extra-ordinary BRAINS, or GIFTS, but more often the result of OPPORTUNITY, and FUN.

These Outliers (those people who’s accomplishments are outside of the average) accumulated MANY, many hours of practice – 10,000 hours to be exact. Now that’s an Order of Magnitude. But more importantly, the individual didn’t feel like they were practicing. They were having FUN. They experienced an extraordinary joy in the action alone, and that mindset allowed for their brain and mind to soak up the motions, skills, and patterns needed to ACQUIRE genius more rapidly and effectively.

As a sidenote, I was interested to know what level of skill would be acquired with a smaller Order of Magnitude of hours accumlated. How good of a WHATEVER would you be if you engaged in 1,000 hours of JOYFUL PRACTICE. What about 100 hours?

10,000 hours = I am the best

1,000 hours = I am very good

100 hours = I CAN DO

10 hours = I have tried

1 hours = I can’t do

In The Roadmap Article I said that we’ll shoot for an average effort of 90 minuts per day for 18 months. That’s 1,030 Hours of Action AND Theory (study). So by this calculation, by the end of this training, and ACTION, you’ll not only have accomplished the building of something, but you’ll also have acquired the skillset making you very good at what you’re doing.

So, sure you can wander through the blog posts, read, consume, learn, implement and succeed on your own. But these are the days of Social Networking, and so we’re building a community, a platform for you to make this process even more fun. Because that’s the name of the Game – Passion, fun, enjoyment… not only in the topic you choose to make your MoneySite from, but also in the journey, the learning, the DOING, of building that MoneySite.

It all starts, and ends with you. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE. When you download the free Roadmap you’ll get a FREE Membership to Passion Profits Community and access to the PASSION PROFITS system. Once you’re in, you’ll begin to receive instructions on how to proceed and immediately begin to receive training on your FIRST and NEXT steps. Do stuff. Get stuff. PERIOD.

When you’ve completed the training, and take the necessary actions, you’ll receive more training, support and much more. And so it will go until you’ve gone from Zero to 1 Million Dollar Blog – over what should take around 18 months. BUT remember it could take you shorter (or longer) depending on how much time (or money), you put into your project.

Having a GamePlan

Inside the Community, you’ll be able to check your status, accumulate points and credits, achieve new levels and awards, and even redeem those credits and awards for ACTUAL WORK to be done on your site. OR, alternatively, you can always choose to purchase credits to leapfrog past an obstacle you just can’t get through, that you just don’t have the time for, or just don’t want to do.

Status Updates – Sharing

Checkins – What task your working on

Leaderboards

Levelling Up, Getting Awards, Banners, Trophy’s, Badges

Scoring Points – Redeeming Points

PRIVATE PROJECT vs. PUBLIC PROJECT

Although we encourage transparent participation on your project, you may feel like your project is private and you don’t want your progress publicly displayed. Perhaps you’re developing some very interesting niche, and don’t want to draw attention to it. We understand this, and so we can accommodate you to by making your project private.

HOWEVER!!! – You should know that we feel in nearly all cases, for new blogs, the value is in the system of development, not in the BRAND or in the FIRST MOVER pride that we all seem to have about keeping a secret that is so special that just by being first we feel we will be the best and are assured success. This just isn’t true.

What’s more, the mere fact of participating in our Community will give you free and invaluable support. You may even find your neighbours lending a helping hand, doing some of your actions for you. Isn’t that something? Lend a hand, get support That’s what it’s all about.

COURSE CLASSES vs. INDEPENDENT COURSES

When you enter into the Roadmap and Gameplan you can join up with a COURSE CLASS, or take an INDEPENDENT COURSE.

Course Classes are scheduled events, staring just a few time per year. The course will be delivered on a schedule, and will focus on specific topics to be deeply explored through detailed Webinars and Coaching Calls.

The Independent Course is not confined to a time. It starts when you start and ends when you end. Just register and get started.

You’re flexible, so are we.

Having a plan doesn’t mean being rigid. Plans are meant to illuminate the way, not force us into a direction. So our Gameplan is flexible to allow you to take your own time, choose your level of engagement, and be your own boss. Which is the point right? The Passion Profits lifestyle is what lead you away from an inflexible work schedule and lifestyle.

You can break free of the Gameplan anytime by doing one or more of the following:

Referring to Material on the PUBLIC BLOG

Posting Questions in the Support Forum

Using credits to get HELP from the Community

Using credits to get specific training

Upgrading to a paid Coaching Program

Watch this video on YouTube: Raven Tools as Your Command Center

We can use a keyword tool to enhance our brand but saving keywords and using them into a project management or an operational device isn’t exactly ideal. There’s a tool that I use called Raven Tools.

Raven Tools is great because, as it says on its homepage, it’s a powerful Internet marketing platform. It’s really a handful of tools. It brings a bunch of tools together and creates this command center.

It is fairly expensive at $100 per month but they do offer a 30-day trial and they don’t take a credit card to sign up for that trial so you can sign up for the trial with no risk whatsoever.

Producer’s Expense

One thing for you to consider is this is an expense as a producer, as a production company who might be producing more than one Web site. I’ll show you in a minute how that’s immediately beneficial. It doesn’t actually relate to the bottom line of your Web site’s income and expenses. Your Web site itself won’t have a $100 expense on the bottom line but this tool is so powerful toward your Web site making $100 per month so quickly that the expense is really worth your while.

Raven Tools Tools

I’m going to introduce a couple of tools in Raven Tools and help you realize how simple it is to add words but how much more powerful it is.

So I’m logged into my Raven Tools account, which is at emjayoh.raventools.com.

The first thing I want to show you is these two drop downs in the top right corner.

The one that says profile

And the other one that says Web site

Profile Manager

Under the tools, the gear icon, there are two system preferences down at the bottom: the profile manager. This tool in particular helps you manage the profiles that you can set up. The profiles that I have set up currently, I have Emjayoh for my greater production company and I have ZeroToProductions for my current production company that I’m using as my example in Zero To Money Making Web site.

Under Zero To Money Making Web site I have a couple of Web sites set up right now. These are Web sites that I’m exploring the potential development of. Currently Trevor and I are exploring how to understand women and sleeping on your back.

I can delete, add or remove those Web sites as I see fit and I can add more profiles as I see fit. In fact under TheMasterCleanse, which is another one of our case studies, and here’s Passion Profits, I have several Web sites under each as part of the overall network of Web sites that a million dollar Web site has to have or should have because we are creating these holistic groupings of Web sites.

That’s enough on that for now but I just wanted to show you how I can organize my research. I can start to think about what is the company or what Web sites I am launching as part of that project.

Web site Specific

Once I do that and I click on how to understand women now all of the tools that I work on are related only to this Web site. I can do research under keywords, and that’s the main tool we’re going to work on, and that keyword research is all particular to this Web site or this Web site that I’m researching.

You can see some existing searches I’ve done here already and we’re going to review those searches in just a minute.

Keyword Research

This research tool in general allows me to research Web sites and different analyzers but we’re going to do the keyword research. In the keyword research we actually have four other sub tools.

Wordtracker

We can search keywords using Wordtracker which is, in itself, $80 per month to access. SEMRush in itself is $50 per month to access so right away I’ve paid for my fee to access Raven Tools.

AdWords

It also accesses AdWords. So if I do a keyword search for one of my seed words, which I’m going to work on understanding women right now and Trevor has shared with me his topic selection worksheet. So I can grab his seed keywords.

I’m actually going to open up a new simple text document and drop those keywords into this document. I’ll expand on them just a little bit more and come up with what I’m going to really dig into. These are my primary candidates for potentially keyword-based domain names.

Now I have this text document open because this is going to be my scratch pad where I make a bunch of notes. You’ll see how that works in a moment.

If I want to do keyword research on men and women, for example, in Raven Tools it’s as simple as dropping the keyword into Raven Tools. I’ll show you how that works in AdWords in the same way. I’ll drop in this keyword into AdWords and do a search, go back into Raven Tools and I’ll click on search and you can see I got the feature here to select the match type as broad, phrase or exact. Those actually exist in AdWords as well over on the right-hand side.

I’m going to leave it as broad for both and I’ll start the keyword research over here.

I’m given the results of the search for “men and women” and you’ll see the results are very similar. “Video,” “women,” “woman,” “men for women” and over here it’s very similar.

It’s organized by global monthly and you get 755 million to 2.7 million and Raven Tools has 100 million to 2.2 million so the volume is not exactly the same because it depends on a few other factors like what server im querying or what location I’m in or have selected. They’re close enough and we dont need to worry about those small details.

You can see how now, all of the sudden, I have this keyword tool at my disposal and I can start doing some things where I can export and save keywords in a more meaningful way.

Keyword Manager

I can grab these keywords, all in a row, copy those, and now I’m going to use a secondary tool in Raven Tools under the “site” menu and “keywords”. This is called the keyword manager.

In the keyword manager I can go ahead and add a bunch of keywords that I’m trying to manage, that I want to remember, that I want to work with in the future.

You can see that I have a bunch listed here already but you can just go into here and click “add keywords,” drop them in here and when you drop them in there it will keep this nice little list for you and show you the search results indefinitely.

Tag Keywords

I want to point out one feature that is awesome; you can tag your keywords. Just like you can tag a photo on Facebook you can tag a keyword with a word like “seed” or “pillar” or “core” or “published” or “marketed” or “ranking” or any kind of state that it might be in in our production schedule.

I just wanted to point that out as a little teaser as to how awesome tagging your keywords will become.

Add Seed List

I’m going to go and open my other exports. I’m going to grab those keywords as well, select them all and copy them. I’m going to go to the bottom of the add keywords box, open up a line by hitting enter on my keyboard and paste that into there. I’ll come back to my next document, grab all of those keywords, add all of those in here, hit return and hit paste and click “add keywords.” Now those will all be added to my list.

I’m going to work on that while we’re exploring the keywords of this project and start to apply some criteria to why we might choose a domain name based on those keywords.

So people tend to get a little hazy eyed when considering the process of Making Money Online. But the process is very simple when broken down into major Milestones. These Milestones are true for almost any venture, whether you’re launching an website for a business, or personal blog, or an internet marketing empire.

Milestones and Landmarks

Before we get into the major Milestones you should understand that this is a process. It’s a series of tasks that must be undertaken. This of couse takes time to execute and then more time to mature. Along the way we can measure our progress by tracking 5 Key Performance Indicators, to help us find our way to our destination. We’ll be tracking and evaluating our performance in each area and we’ll use these Key Performance Indicators to set objectives.

Posts Published

Links Built

Community Members

Site Traffic

Cash Flow

From Zero to One

A journey with no destination can be very fun, but when you know where you are, your destination has a funny way of becoming more clear. So with that in mind, let’s determine our own Zero Point.

Now, it’s true that all of us have a different starting point. I am certain some of you will come into this system with hosting accounts, or domain names already purchased. Some of you think you know what you’re talking about, others actually do know what they’re talking about, and inevitably most of us just don’t know what we’re talking about whatsoever. So if you’re already experienced you’ll be tempted to consider yourself further down the road, and therefore tend to think “I know that”. And when that happens, that is the time when learning STOPS.

There is a Zen saying “empty your glass”. You can’t fill a glass that’s already full. So for the sake of your experience, please consider yourself at the same point as the rest of us; AT ZERO. You’ll have opportunity to prove yourself, or jump ahead if you must at during the process.

What we want to do is to build a website from a ZERO type website (non-existant), to a 1 type, or a 1.0 state. This is a state of achievement, where the project looks and feels like a complete work. All systems are functioning and mature. While it may be true there is an inevitable 2.0, 3.0 and onward, those evolutions are merely refinements, adjustments, adjuncts, compliments and other growth activities.

So the process for us will take our website through the milestones and over time will graduate to a Type 1 Website. We’ll grow from 0.1 to 0.2 with each major Milestone. We’ll also drill deep down into Minor Markers moving from 0.0 to 0.0.1 to 0.0.2 before we get to 0.1.

The Type 1 Website

So What is a Type 1 Website exactly? And how much time are we talking about?

A Type 1 Website is a website that has achieved several, if not all of the following value factors:

Posts Published

All Pillar Posts

All Core Content

Links Built

Around 10,000 Backlinks and Likes

Community Members

Well over 10,000 Community Members

Site Traffic

Receiving around 1o,000 unique visits per day

Income

Earning around $10,000 per month

Site Value

$1,000,0000

OK, so a 1 miillion dollar valuation seems lofty. But this training isn’t for you flat-landers out there. This target is very achievable. If you’re life is currently run by a set of programs that limits your beliefs, please pay extra attention to our first sections on changing your belief structure to allow for these potentials.

Of these indicators, the Income indicator is the one we’ll target as it is the fundamental measure. Each site is different. Some will require many more Posts, others, more Community Members. But they all will achieve income, and so we’ll mark our progress by how much money we are making.

The daddy to Website Income is the Website Value Indicator since most defensible valuation models refer to income in one way or another. As we move through the Roadmap, we build upon these Value factors and the the Website will grow. BUT before you go tuning out on me, let’s break that down to each order of magnitude of growth along the way.

Orders of Magnitude

Building a website that’s worth $100 seems achievable wouldn’t you say? In fact, your website is worth that almost immediately, just by launching it. Isn’t that amazing? In fact many people make a nice living just launching website. Their 1 hour work gets them $100. Not bad.

The $100 value is our first Order of Magnitude. We’ll scale up from here, adding content, building links, growing our community, and activating revenue streams until we reach the next Order of Magnitude, a website valued at $1,000 for example. From there we’ll continue unti we grow right though the next orders until we’re at $1,000,000.

Website Valuations Orders of Magnitude (OoM)

$100

$1,000

$10,000

$100,000

$1,000,000

These Orders of Magnitude are Base 10. Meaning they grow by a factor of 10. Of course websites grow at different rates (factor of 10 is substantial growth). But that growth is relative to the time, which is to say, the duration of the project.

Growing a website to Type 1 ($1,000,000) in 1 year seems more difficult that 2 years right? The answer is… It depends.

The growth period is impacted by so many factors, like: the chosen niche market, the quality of the content created, the quantity of the content created, the amount of links built etc. What’s more, this is compounded over time. The point is to recognize the growth objectives and break them down into meaningful accomplishments. For example a website that is earning $1/day might be valued at $500. A website earning $5 day might be valued at $2,500. Here is a breakdown of sample earnings/valuations that we will move through along the roadmap

1st Order of Magnitude

$365 / year

VALUE = $500

Valuation Multiple = 1.25

$300 / month

$3,650 / year

VALUE = $5,000

Valuation Multiple = 1.5

4th Order of Magnitude

5th Order of Magnitude

$50 / day

$1,500 / month

$18,250 / year

VALUE = $50,000

Valuation Multiple = 2.0

6th Order of Magnitude

$100 / day

$3,000 / month

$36,500 / year

VALUE = $100,000

Valuation Multiple = 3.0

7th Order or Magnitude

$500 / day

$15,000 / month

$182,500 / year

VALUE = $1,000,000

Valuation Multiple = 5

A note on valuation multiples. As the site grows, matures, and maximizes the complimentary value factors (content, links, traffic, members, income), it’s multiple will grow from a standard multiple of 1x yearly earnings (for immature websites) to closer to that of a mature business valuation of 5x – to even 10x yearly earnings. Now there are many valuation factors and models, but these generalizations can be consider very usable guidelines.

The Roadmap Timeline

Based on these objectives we can pencil in a timeline considering an average amount of productivity. I believe this timeline can be done in a year doing about an hour of work each each day. But 18 months will be our standard target.

Have more time? Maybe you can get done faster.

Have more money than time? Maybe you can hire someone to do some of the stuff that needs to get done.

Maybe you have both time and money. In this case, you might considering buy your way to the top -there’s nothing wrong with that AT ALL!

The timeline for all of this is organized into 3 Major Modules, each sub-divided into 3 Landmakrs for a total of 9 Major Landmarks. Each Landmarkhas it’s own characteristics and individual Mile Markers, or Chapters that we’ll drill down into a little later, or you can register for the Roadmap Webinar which will cover these individual Markers which are simply the Training and the Actions and Accomplishments we take/make along the way.

Passion Project (FIRST 30 Days)

Getting Started

Starts with motivation, understanding of the opportunity, and just how accessible it is so that we can quickly overcome any obstacles to our success. This will allow us to focus on the energizing challenge of Prospecting our Passions to choose a topic for our Passion Project.

Mission Control

We’ll setup the command center for our Passion Project utilizing the most effective tools, services and resources available to us so that we can manage our project without the burden of the technology being in the way, leaving us to the fun stuff: creativity, connecting with people and enjoying success.

The MoneySite

Our Passion Project is really a more than OneWebsite, although at the bulk of this network is on our MoneySite. The MoneySite is the primary property of our Network of properties including Facebook pages, Twitter profiles and YouTube Channels. We’ll systematically build this property so that it is the stable HUB of our network so that the whole system can actually allow us work less, not more.

Internet Marketing Continuum (5 months)

Content Creation

Content Creation starts with both Market and Keyword research. Simple ideas quickly grow together to form Reports and other FreeLine Content we give to our readers in exchange for their membership. Blog articles build search traffic. Rich media like videos and podcasts will wow our audience. As a whole, this content forms a Knowledgebase that provides the basis for Community Support and Marketing all at the same time.

Social Inter-Networking

The Social Networking of the Internet forms a beautifully connected WEB of social media properties like Facebook, twitter, blogger, youtube and so much more. This network creates a medium to distribute our content, and for people to subscribe to our content. This creates an even richer community and user experience that starts with friending and following, and always involves engaging our fans and readers with the rich content from our growing KnowledgeBase.

Revenue Streams

Our Passions turn to Profits when we start to add Revenue Streams to our both our MoneySite and our growing Network and Community. As we achieve different MileStones in terms of traffic and members, we’ll start to add more and more streams which are all really just forms of advertising (first for other people, then for us). Once we have a targeted audience, who have related interests, we’ll want to support their effort in SOLVING THEIR PROBLEM they’re seeking an answer to, which originally led them to our content.

Content Website Business (1 Year)

Information Products

We will quickly solidify the value of our Content Website Business by substantially adding to our Revenue Streams by creating Information Products -which are simply RePurposed, and ReMastered versions of the Core Content we’ve already created. We’ll package this information in familiar and effective formats like Ebooks, Membership Sites, and Coaching Programs.

Business Development

Our Passion Project’s value grows enormously when we actively engage in Business Development strategies such as using more mature tools to automate the creation of our content and the process of the sales cycle. We’ll utilize user-generated content from our established community, as well as outsourcing certain repetitive and technical tasks. This creates a “Moat” around our business, making it’s value more secure and defensible from competition.

Automation and Scaling

Everything we’ve covered up to this point is now ready to be improved upon, and built upon. Tools and Services we used before that cost very little can be replaced with (ironically) more simple, but yet more powerful and more expensive ones. This will allow for much bigger rewards though the production and deployment of more elaborate products features. Supported by the continual application of established fundamentals we will begin to develop Joint Ventures combined with Product Launches to take our Business to the next frontier: a Type 1 Website.

Traffic Lanes

Obviously everyone is different. So you can opt for a few different lanes. These first 3 lanes related to your skill level. The material you’ll get will be tailored to your level accounting for more detailed explanations of common, simple steps, and practices that a veteran or master would like know already and be using every day.

Noobie

Vetran

Master

These next two lanes refer to your ambitions or intentions. If you want to be a blogger, starting very simple and making a few bucks, or if you want to be a publisher owning several websites and hiring people to run your business, then there will be slight differences in your approach.

Blogger

Publisher

Training Materials and Resources

There are no training materials associated with this Mile, but here is a list of Related, Relevant and past Training Materials

I built my first “Content Website”, or “Blog”, 5 years ago, and now I earn enough recurring monthly income to pay for my lifestyle, whatever I decide it to be; beaches and surfing, mountains and hiking, or city and yoga. You can have your cake and eat it too. (Scroll down to watch the video tutorial on How to Build a Website).

Short Cut: How to Build a Website

Getting your website started is SO SIMPLE. It’s really just 10 minutes and a couple dozen clicks. It’s FACEBOOK simple, so if you can play farmville you can learn how to build a website.

You really only need 3 things to get started:

Domain Name

Dreamhost Hosting Account

Install Wordpress Website

How to get a Domain Name (website address)

Your Domain Name is the name of your website, it’s the address that people find your website at. The domain name for this website is PassionProfits.com.

I have hundreds of domain names and 5 different “Registrars”. A registrar is just a service that allows you to register a domain name. Most registrars are also hosts, but some are not.

Not all registrars are created equal. Some are very difficult to transfer away from. Some are even difficult just to buy from (GoDaddy, the biggest registrar has many different upsells and distractions).

I have tried most registrars and hosts, and found that you should keep it simple and effective. Dreamhost is a registrar who also offers very flexible, reliable and easy to use hosting service.

How to Setup a Hosting Service

Websites are just files on a computer, and a host is just the computer somewhere in the world where the files that make up your website will live. Your domain name will “POINT” to where your files are located, so having your registrar and your host with the same service makes things very simple.

Dreamhost offers 24/7 support who are happy to help you with all your questions if you can’t find them here at PassionProfits.com.

They also offer 1-Click installs of many website platforms like WordPress -which is amazing free software that we’ll use to power our websites.

How to Build a Website using WordPress

WordPress is world class. It’s by far the leading platform for all kinds of webistes. Huge magazines that we’ll aspire to and that are valued at hundreds of millions of dollars (yes I said 100’s), use WordPress. It’s very easy to use, and VERY Powerful.

WordPress uses themes to create very beautiful and functional websites with the click of a button. I love WooThemes and use them for almost all of my websites, including PassionProfits.com and TheMasterCleanse.org.

I have put together a 10 minute video that walks you through the entire process

Here’s a list of shortcut’s on How to Build a Website:

Dreamhost

WooThemes

Very Important Next Steps

While you’re establishing your project, you should be aware of the big picture. PassionProfits is about the Roadmap and the Gameplan. We know exactly where you’re going, and how you’ll get there –and so should you.

The Roadmap

The Gameplan

The Internet Marketing Continuum

Now that you have a website, you need to build it properly. Of all the hundreds of tasks, strategies, tactics you could learn and execute, you really are only doing 3 things OVER AND OVER, in a continuing cycle.

Creating Content (Blogging)

Generating Traffic (Engaging the Community)

Establishing Revenue Streams (Monetization)

Passion Platform – Getting Started – Being Motivated

My approach to making money online always begins with Passion. These articles will get you started quickly and help you achieve momentum before you get overwhelmed with technical aspects.

Recognize the Opportunity

Overcome Obstacles

Acquire Some Basic Computer Skills

Passion Prospecting

Understand the Tree of Knowledge

Profit Platform – Services and Tools

These services and tools will provide you with the right weapons to build your project properly from the start. Do you really want one of those houses that had wing after wing added over years and years with no understand of what would come next? You end up with a house that has no flow. It’s dysfunctional. Most websites end up this way because they start without the right services and tools.

File Management

Google – Master Account

Use Helpful Tools and Services

Establish a Command Center

That is the Question. Since the dawn of income taxes, we, the over-worked tax-payer have tried to find ways to create a tax deduction from what we love to do. The Hobby Tax isn’t a tax per-se, but, since we spend a great deal of our discsretionary income on the things that we love to do (our hobbies), and since those Hobby Losses are not tax deductible, it sure feels like a tax. The solution for many, has been the Hobby Business.

What is a Hobby Business?

This is really a question of what is a Hobby Business, then and now. Until the age of the BLOG, the Hobby Business was some tiring effort at turning your hobby into a traditional business. Too often this effort would lead to the love for one’s joyful pastime turning into resentment that what we once loved to do is now work. This is mostly due to the fact the most business owners are really “Job Owners” and end up a slave to their self inflicted job. (Read The E-Myth by Michael Gerber). But, along came the blog, which would spell the end to setting up a store, paying rent, hiring employees, and doing all the grunt work of a “Traditional Business”. Now, the “Tradigital Business” is, well, digital. And so a Hobby Businesscan now be as simple as writing about what you love. Let me repeat this. No store. No staff. No headaches. Only the time to do what you love, and then a little more time talking about it (writing a blog about it).

The Taxman and the Hobby Business

Before I write any more on this subject it’s time for the good old fashioned disclaimer. I am not an accountant, or a lawyer. Get some real advice about this please. BUT, I have talked to many accountants about this, and they are all shocked when they realize this simple truth. You see, the burden of a business in the eyes of the taxman is “potential to earn revenue”. This is because entreprenuers need incentive, or rather protection against penalty for trying to launch a business. Most business have losses for months, even years. In fact major, MAJOR business have never turned a profit. LinkedIn was just valued at 6 billion dollars in their fantastic IPO and they have NEVER had a profit. Of course there is a fine line here. These “Hobby Losses” must be defensible. If you’re asked about your hobby business, you need to be able to convince the average person that the hobby business is a real business, not just a hobby in disguise.

How to Save $1,500 Instantly by Making a Blog About Your Hobby

Speaking of the average person. The average american household, according to the US department of labour, earns around $63,000 per year. The amount of taxes paid varies by different calcuations but averages around 18% of this income or $11,340. If you look close at the image “Where does the Money Go” you’ll see that many of our expenditures are discretionary. The money we spend on things like entertainment alone is an average of $2,600. But there’s so much more, like books, alcohol, tabaco, shopping and apparel. There’s even a category for miscellaneous ($800). Now this list need to be broken down better to things like: Kids Football, Golf Trips, Gardening Supplies. These are the itemized discretionary expenses, or Hobby Expenses that we can write off if we have started a Hobby Business out of the subject. Even the big categories that aren’t traditionally tax deductible can be written off as hobby expenses including: home entertainment / media, home decorations, home improvement, children’s clothes and toys and even eating out. In fact, there is not reason you should ever pay a tax again! So if you spend $4,500 dollars per year, and your tax bracket is 30%, I would suggest your tax savings might be $1,500 per year. Every dollar that you can write off, is no longer taxed at your personal tax rate. Here’s a list of both the most popular hobbies and the most expensive hobbies so you can get motivated to see where you create some tax deductions. And keep this in mind: Just because you don’t have any of these “Hobby Expenses” now, doesn’t mean you can’t just go ahead and start doing them. In fact, I am launching websites on how to fly, how to surf, and the best places in the world to travel, not only because I want to do those things, but also because I want to not have to pay for them, or at least to not be taxed because of them. The Hobby Tax is now abolished. Repeat after me:

I will never pay the Passion Tax again!

How to create a Hobby Business

Before I talk about the how-to create the website business, let me first say that the how-to-be-sure that you can defend your hobby business is to make sure it makes money. If it’s making money, it’s a business. Now, do you know how easy it is to make money online? Put up a website, write an article, and drop some Google Adsense, or Affiliate ads into your site, and I bet you make some money. It might not be much, say maybe, $1 per day? I also bet you that if you write an article every week, you eventually get to $10, even $20 dollars per day. Hey, that’s enough for 6 rounds of golf per month! ($100 average cost for green fees/cart etc). Now, not only are you saving taxes on your golf club costs, membership dues, even travel to courses around the world, your also making money from it. Pretty sweet hey?

How to create a Website Business (Blog Business)

I am not going to duplicate my efforts from a previous post, so check out this post on how to build a website, which covers the basic technology of launching a website. The process of building a Website Business is only a few steps more, however you should know, your website business can become a Million Dollar Website if you really put some effort into it.

Leave a comment and register to get started

Now aren’t you motivated to get started? Before you register for the Passion Profits roadmap, be sure to tell us what hobby you think is perfect to build your Hobby Business around. How much do you think you’ll save each year in taxes? Take a guess how much you spend, and then multiply that by your tax rate. That’s the amount you’ll save each year.

The dream of making a million dollars is very real for all of us. The reality of a Million Dollars means to be wealthy, free from worry over money, independent and rich with free time to enjoy lifes’ pleasures. And since I build websites, for me this dream becomes a ambitious professional goal: To Build Million Dollar Websites.

Ambitious? Well, maybe… But to me, it’s sometimes seems not much less ambitious than this article, which is the first of a 5 part series on Million Dollar Websites (see the links below for the next 4 articles).

For some people, the target of earning a Million Dollar payday is not only achievable, but anything less would be a failure. Still others, like in the movie “The Social Network” where Sean Parker (inventor of Napster and played by Justin Timberlake) says:

A million dollars isn’t cool. You know what’s cool? A BILLION DOLLARS!

Now that’s a “Pie in the Sky” dream; an ambitious, perhaps even delusional goal even for the most dedicated of we –the professional dreamers. After-all there are only a a select few billion dollar websites in the world (but I guess that depends on what you call a website these days).

Don’t get me wrong; I am all for dreams. In fact, I believe the larger portion of all success demands first a dream, an intention to create or achieve in “reality” what we first visualize in our minds. This of course is the fundamental component of the Law of Attraction, made famous by the awesome movie The Secret –even though it fails to deliver the HOW-TO in an accessible way so that people can take action and get results– but I digress.

Well I think a million dollars is VERY COOL, and dare I say that it’s not a “Pie-In-the-Sky” flight of fancy, but rather a “Piece of Cake” (if you will ;), something that we all can achieve. In fact, I am building this website to prove it.

My Journey Towards Million Dollar Websites

My dreams of a million dollar payday began like most peoples. And It was much more concrete than the LOA.

My million dollar journey began not long after I realized I didn’t want a “JOB”, but I wanted to play a whole lot. Obviously that play would require some cash. Thankfully not long after that I realize that any path to 1 Million Dollars was nearly impossible by trading my hours for dollars in a “J. O. B. “.

Rather than working I knew I needed equity –to build value from my efforts into a tangible asset. So I moved quickly to build my own business.

I started a website development business that built WordPress Websites for small businesses. At the same time I launched my first content website (read more on how I started).

At that time I had also realized that Passive Income was the key to substantial wealth, an fortunately for me, the field I had attracted into my life (blogging and publishing content websites) was the perfect storm for building and acquiring passive income properties. Of the 6 of the aspects of Passive Income blogging websites were aligned perfectly with at least 3 and perhaps all 6 depending on how the website is built.

Real Estate – Rentals and appreciating assets subject to market forces.

Intelectual Property – Licensing, renting ideas.

Information and Digital Products – Low cost of production, infinitely duplicable, high margins.

Stocks and Bonds – Trading of securities subject to market forces.

Business Ownership – Not Job Ownership

Multi-Level Marketing

Now, I am very excited to know that I am building on the concepts found in Robert Allen’s Multiple Streams of Income and applying them to websites, to blogging, to living life and enjoying every minute of it.

Inspiring Examples of Million Dollar Websites

Recently I began documenting what factors, attributes or characteristics Million Dollar Websites had in common.

I found many websites that were KNOWN to have sold for Millions of Dollars. But what was fascinating was the fact that these known million dollar websites were like icebergs. The vast majority were unknown, not visible, or quietly making their owners rich –and sometimes with out the owners even knowing it.

Take for example my two favourite examples of Million Dollar Websites: Gardent Rant and Bankaholic.

Both these websites were/are mostly content. They are a collection articles on a specific topic, each generating an amount of traffic from search engines. One website had a little more community, while the other had a little more commerce. Neither were overwhelming in design, content, functionality, traffic or revenue.

One sold for $25 million dollars.

The other sold for $1 million dollars.

Can you guess which one sold for what?

I had to ask myself: Is this an anomaly? Are these flukes? Are they duplicable? Can I do this? and then inevitably, how do my sites compare?

I have one website particular, TheMasterCleanse.org with some very similar statistical comparisons, and so I began to dig deeper, and the result is this series of articles. And in particular, PassionProfits.com will make an example of both TheMasterCleanse.org, PassionProfits.com, another new startup case-study in a very isolated niche, as examples the process of building a Million Dollar Website.

Million Dollar Website Series – 5 Articles

Now that I have set out to discover, illustrate, test, refine and execute my way into the creation of not one, but many Million Dollar Websites, I have a vested interest in knowing exactly how to make a website to be worth a million dollars.

This process after-all is what makes up the CORE of what PassionProfits is all about (and will hopefully make the PassionProfits.com property also worth $1,000,000 in the process).

So I have created a 5 part series that will dig deep into this concept so that by the end, hopefully you’ll realize just how achievable the Million Dollar Website is, and how you can get started towards your very own piece of the ‘pie in the sky’ –George Jefferson style.

List of Million Dollar Websites

How to Make a Million Dollar Website

But first things first as Steven Covey once said. First I want to fully understand my target, after-all it’s hard to hit what you’re not aiming for. So next up: What is a Million Dollar Website?

Do you think you can build Million Dollar Websites?

Tells us what you think! And which website do you think sold for $25,000,000: Garden Rant or Bankoholic?
